Frederick William Burgess, 77 of Beverly Hills, FL Formerly of Carroll County, MD., died Sunday March 12, 2006 at his daughters home in Westminster. He was the spouse of over 50 years to Dolores Elizabeth Edmondson Burgess. He was born August 9, 1928 in New Market, MD the son of the late Charles Thurman Burgess and Lyda Anna Kelly Burgess. Mr. Burgess worked 33 years as a Computer Services Manager for Allied Signal. He served in both the US Air Force and US Army. He was a member of the Westminster Moose and also of The Sykesville Post of the American Legion. He enjoyed Boating, Crabbing and going on Cruises. He was a Home Improvement Specialist. Other hobbies included spending time with his grandchildren and his lawn. Surviving in addition to his wife are Son and Daughter-in-law Michael Lee and Noreen Victoria Burgess of Woodbine, Daughter and Son-in-law Lisa Jo and Scott Singleton of Westminster, Son and Daughter-in-law: Curtis Neal and Charmaine Burgess of Westminster. Grandchildren: Carrie Ann Wean, David William Steven Michael Burgess, Jason Craig Berry and Micheal(spelling is correct) Neal Burgess. Great-granddaughter; Natalie Nicole Berry, Brothers: Robert Eugene Burgess of Mt. Airy, and James Moody Burgess of Belair, MD Brother-in-law Arthur Peary Edmonson, Jr. and Sister-in-law Cindy Cornell. Preceded in death Brothers: Harold and Gary Burgess and Sisters: Marie Holmes and June Wiles. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, March 16, 2006 10 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A. 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784 with Pastor Tim Webster of Uniontown Bible Church. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville, MD. The Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7-9 and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Those desiring to make contributions to Carroll Hospice, 95 Carroll St. Westminster, MD 21157.

Kessel-Witte, Helen
Helen Kessel Witte, 90 of Mt. Airy, MD., died Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at Copper Ridge Nursing Home. She was the spouse of the late Cyril Witte, who passed away in 1995. Mrs. Witte was born November 22, 1915 in Savannah, GA the daughter of the late Edward Kessel and Etta Stelling Kessel. Mrs. Kessel was retired from NIH where she worked as an Administrative Assistant. She was a former reporter for the Mt. Airy newspaper, ”The Community Reporter”. She was a member of the League of Women Voters, she was very active at Calvary Lutheran Church and other Civic Organizations, She enjoyed her grandchildren, Gardening, Crocheting, Stamp and Coin Collecting and Baking. Surviving are Son and daughter-in-law: Bruce and Diane Witte of Mt. Airy, MD. Son and daughter-in-law: Richard and Alison Witte of Cox’s Mills, WV. Grandchildren: Robert Witte, Jr., Cristy Keith, Jason and Meghan Witte, Theodore Witte, Jennifer and Joseph Kratz, Frank Witte, Katie Witte, Asa Witte. Also survived by special friend Gail Jones and her Care Givers at Copper Ridge. Memorial Services will be conducted at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784 on Saturday March 18, 2006 1:00 PM with the Rev. Roger Rinker of Calvary Lutheran Church officiating. Dorothy Ann Gosnell (nee Hall), age 91, of Dundalk, died Saturday, March 18, 2006 at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Baltimore. She was born January 23, 1915 in Woodbine, MD the daughter of the late Ernest Hall and the late Annie Hatfield Hall. She was a housewife. Wife of the late Leon Martin Gosnell. Mother of Ernest Gosnell of Dundalk and the late Jack Martin Gosnell. Dear sister of Marjorie Kessler of Woodbine and Howard Hall of Morgan Station, and the late Mabel Trescott, Hilda Davis, Alfred Hall and Alvin Hall. Grandmother of Mellissa Gosnell and great grandmother of Caden Foley. Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Janet L. “Susie” Seal (nee Brosenne), age 44, of Westminster, died Wednesday March 22, 2006 in Sykesville, MD. She was born June 6, 1961 in Olney, MD the daughter of Norman James Brosenne, Jr. and the late Elsie Lydia Brosenne (nee Beall). She was a seamstress for 10 years and a nursing assistant at Golden Age Guest Home in Sykesville where she received a Channel 13 Salute for outstanding nursing assistant. She was the wife of Douglas G. Seal of Westminster. Mother of Chelsie Lydia Seal of Westminster. Sister of Larry Lee Brosenne of Owings Mills, Norman James Brosenne III of Westminster, Heather Lynn Zell of Abingdon, Shawn Timothy Brosenne of Sykesville and the late Norma Jean Brosenne. Loving grand daughter of Arthur G. Beall and the late Janet Lydia Beall. Funeral Service will be Monday March 27, 2006 at 12:00 Noon at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. She was born June 5, 1930 in Glenelg, MD the daughter of the late Albert Britton and the late Mildred Mullinix Britton. She was a homemaker and loving mother. She was a member of Poplar Springs United Methodist Church. She was a former member of the Woodbine Southern States Advisory Board. Surviving in addition to her parents are Son: Allan Pickett of Clearville, PA, Son and Daughter-in-law Mark and Jeanie Pickett of Mt. Airy, Son: Bruce Pickett of New Market. Sister: Joan Slagle of Biglerville, PA Grandchildren: Amy Pickett-Hurst, Theresa, Ashley, Katie, Ryan and Angie Pickett. Great-grandchildren: Shane and Autumn Hurst. Lorraine Lucille Mayne, 75 of Mt. Airy, MD., died, Tues March 28, 2006 at her daughter’s home in Woodbine. She was the spouse of the late David F. Mayne, Sr. She was born July 2, 1930 in Watersville, MD the daughter of the late Harry Eldridge Bloom and the late Katherine Lovina Davis Bloom. She retired in 1997 from Howard County Public Schools where she was a cook in the Food Services Department. Surviving are 3 Sons: David F. Mayne, Jr. of Elkridge, Thomas Benjamin Mayne and wife Cathy of Mt. Airy, George Richard Mayne and wife Reva of Mt. Airy, 3 Daughters: Virginia Arnold and fiancé Tom Zebroski of Woodbine, Mary Catherine Rapp of Woodbine, and Roxanne Frazier and husband Tom of Mt. Airy. 16 Grandchildren, 34 Great-grandchildren, 6 Great-great Grandchildren. Also survived by her dog and companion “Jackie”. She will be deeply missed by Special friend Bobby Smith. She is preceded in death by Brother: Bub Bloom, Son: Harry E. Harrison, Sterling E.
Sterling E. Harrison, age 87 of Washington, DC died Friday March 31, 2006 at the U.S. Soldier and Airmen’s Home in Washington, DC. He was born on April 7, 1918 in Mt. Airy, MD the son of the late Erbin Harrison and the late Effie Ridgley Harrison. He was the husband of Mabel E. Harrison (nee Barnhart). He served in the U.S. Army for twenty years from January 1941 thru February 1961. He was a former member of Lisbon United Methodist Church. He is survived by sons Michael E. Harrison of Mt. Airy and Kevin E. Harrison of Glen Burnie. Also survived by 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 1 great, great grand-daughter, sister Jane Willing of Florida, and several nieces & nephews. Funeral Service will be held Thursday April 6, 2006 at 1:00 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A. at 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School). Miller, Leon
Mr. Leon Miller, 77 of Sykesville, MD., died March 31, 2006 at his home. He was the spouse of the late Eva Reiner Miller who passed away in 2000. He was born May 11, 1928 in Svilengrad, Bulgaria. The son of the late Oshin Merametdjianand late Alice Babikian Merametdjian. Mr. Miller was retired from the U.S. Army where he worked as a Interegator and interpreter. He was fluid in 6 different languages. Surviving him are Brother: Jacques. Merian of Sarasota, FL and Pittsburgh, PA. 6 nieces and 2 nephews. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2006 9:30 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A. 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784. Rhoda Catherine “Me-Maw” Ripley (nee Evans), age 77 of Woodbine, died Saturday, April 1, 2006, at her home. She was born November 29, 1928, in Woodbine, MD the daughter of the late Raymond Clifton Evans and the late Marie Elizabeth Lindsay Evans. She was a Homemaker and enjoyed grandchildren and farm life. She was a graduate from Mt. Airy High School. She was a member of Morgan Chapel U.M. Church in Woodbine and the Mt. Airy Post #191 American Legion Auxiliary. She was the wife of the late Owen Francis Ripley. She was the mother of Donna Jean Ripley Fleming and husband Gilbert of Finksburg, Joan Frances Ripley Henley of Woodbine and Francine Ripley Dorsey and husband Tom Dorsey, Jr. of Woodbine. Sister of- Dorothy E. Fleming, Evelyn R. Dayhoff and Shirley E. Harrison all of Woodbine, also survived by half sister Helen Green and Half brother Wilbur Haines both of Westminster. Grandmother of- Michelle Lee Fleming Blevins and husband Charles, David Ripley Henley, Katie Rebecca Henley, Tyler Nicholas Dorsey, Claudia Marie Dorsey and Kyle Owen Dorsey.
