Acker, Ellsworth G.
Ellsworth G. Acker, age 86, of Taylorsville, died Wednesday September 13, 2006 at Carroll Hospital Center, in Westminster. He was born December 3, 1919 in Kokomo, Indiana the son of the late Ellsworth Wilber Acker and the late Lucy Acker (nee Machin). He was a retired research Chemist from W.R. Grace Washington Research Center at Columbia, MD. He lived in Westminster, formerly lived in the Hamilton area of Baltimore City. His professional career was with the Division of W.R. Grace. His specialty was silica and silicate chemistry. He was an inventor/co-inventor on 20 U.S. Patents. His research article describing the molecular structure of Silica Gel in every phase of preparation was published in a professional journal. His degrees include a B.S. in General Physical Sciences at the University of Maryland in 1942, B.S. in Chemistry at Johns Hopkins University night school in 1951. He took an early retirement to get his third degree in Biology at Towson State University in 1957. In 1957, he took a position at Barre-National Pharmaceutical Company Baltimore County in Regulatory Affairs. He remained there until he retired in 1985. In 1943, Ellsworth entered the U.S. Navy. As a Lt. (jg), he served on ships in the Pacific Theater. His most interesting duty was as Captain of the USS LCI (L) 371. He was discharged in 1946. His hobbies were sailing on the Chesapeake Bay, hiking, nature studies, model railroad, photography, swimming, bike riding and traveling in both the USA and foreign countries. He enjoyed dancing and met his wife Grace at a dance. He was and wife of 22 years, formerly, Grace Parker, retired to their home in Westminster in 1985. There in Carroll County he became an active volunteer in water quality work at Piney Run Reservoir. He spent almost 20 years in the activity which he enjoyed very much. He is survived by his wife Grace C. Parker-Acker (nee Crofts). And a sister Lucille Houck of Martinsburg, WV. Friends may call at Taylorsville U.M. Church, 4356 Ridge Road, Mt. Airy, 21771, on Saturday September 16, 2006 from 10:30 AM- 11:30 AM at which time Funeral Service will begin at 11:30 AM with the Rev. Stephen White of Taylorsville U.M. Church in Taylorsville and a nephew Dr. Richard A. Crofts officiating. Graveside Interment will be on Monday September 18, 2006 at 1:00 PM at Parkwood cemetery in Parkville. Memorial Contributions can be made to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, PO Box 27106, New York, NY 10087 or Taylorsville U.M. Church, C/O General Fund.

Gulas, George
George Gulas, age 83, of Owings Mills, died Friday September 15, 2006 at Gilchrist Center in Towson, MD. He was born July 28, 1923 in Sagamore, PA the son of the late Valent Gulas and the late Anna Struk Gulas. He was the husband of the late Gertrude Elizabeth Janczewski Gulas. He was an assistant director of Memorial Affairs/Monument Division of U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. He served in the US Army Air Force in WWII then in US Air Force during Korea, Radar Navigator on a B-29. Member of Holy Family R.C. Church in Randallstown and member of St. Charles Boremeo Knights of Columbus. He was an avid baseball fan, Listen to Baseball games on the Radio and liked to travel. He was the father of Richard and Denise Gulas of New Oxford, PA, Deborah and Thomas Russo of Naples, FL., and Robert and Elida Gulas of Westminster. Brother of the late John Gulas and sister late Anna Gulas. Also survived by 7 grandchildren. Funeral Liturgy (MASS) will be held Thursday, September 21, 2006 at 10:30 AM at Holy Family R.C. Church 9533 Liberty Road, Randallstown with Fr. Andrew S. Mohl officiating. Interment will be in Baltimore National cemetery. Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) on Wednesday from 3-5 & 7-9 PM.

Rodrigues, Margaret A.
Margaret Anne “Peggy” Rodrigues (nee Etzler), age 71, of Mt. Airy, died Sat. September 16, 2006 at Northhampton Manor Health Care in Frederick, MD. She was Born February 1, 1935 in Frederick, MD the daughter of the late Norman E. Etzler and the late Dorothy R. Etzler (nee Roberts). She was a homemaker. She was a member of Calvary U.M. Church and the Chancel Choir in Mt. Airy. She was the wife of the late John Daniel Rodrigues. She was the mother on Gayle A. Kuheana and Teresa L. Paculba and husband Rudy both of Hawaii. And Daniel W. Gaver and wife Joan of Manassas, VA. Dear sister of Norma Lee Dennis of Mt. Airy. Also survived by 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and caretaker Virginia Jawanowitch. Predeceased by one granddaughter Jami A. Catcho. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday September 20, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Calvary U.M. Church, 403 S. Main Street in Mt. Airy with the Rev. Dennis E. Hall, William E.
William Everett Hall, 49 of New Windsor formerly of Roanoke, VA, died Monday September 18, 2006 at his home in New Windsor. He was the spouse of Cindy Hiner Hall. He was born October 3, 1956 in Roanoke, VA the son of Ernest William Hall and Mary Frances Martin Hall. Mr. Hall attended Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke, VA and Graduated from Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked at ITT in Roanoke, Allied Signal in Columbia, MD, MD Semiconductor in Clarksburg and Northrop Gruman in Baltimore. Mr. Hall was a member of Chapelgate Presbyterian Church. Surviving him in addition to his parents and wife are Son: Charles Everett Hall of New Windsor, Daughter: Melinda Jean Hall of Gaithersburg, Sister and Brother-in-law: Emily and David Wycoff of Salem, VA. Memorial Services will be conducted on Thursday September 28, 2006 10:00 AM at Chapelgate Presbyterian Church 2600 Marriottsville, Rd. Marriottsville, MD 21104. Stanner, Charles M.
Charles "Mike" Stanner, 52 of Randallstown, MD died on Tuesday Septmember 19, 2006 at Sunrise. Beloved husband of Laurie Elaine Stanner(nee Moore). He was born July 31, 1954 the Son of the late Kenneth M. and Louise M. Stanner. He was the Devoted Father of Daniel and David Stanner and daughter-in-law Kathryn. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and in-laws. Mr. Stanner was an Air Force Veteran, a Deacon of Granite Presbyterian Church, and a Prominent Scout Leader and Chairmen for the Boy Scouts of America. The Family will receive friends at Granite Presbyterian Church, 10637 Old Court Rd. Woodstock, MD on Saturday September 23, 2006 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM. Memorial Services will begin at 2:30 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Boy Scouts of America, 701 Wyman Park Dr. Baltimore, MD 21211.

Long, Nevin B.
Nevin B. Long, age 71, of Union Bridge, formerly of Mt. Airy, died Wednesday, September 20, 2006, at home. He was the son of the late Mansel A. Long and the late Dorothy W. Long (nee Shoemaker). He was born March 18, 1935 in Baileys Mill, Ohio. He was the husband of Mary R. Long (nee Earley). He was owner and operator of Long Refuse Company. He served in the US Army from 1953-1957 in the 11th Airborne. He became a Christian when he was baptized on 8/2/70 and was part-time preaching at several small Churches of Christ; including Catoctin Church of Christ in Thurmont and living day to day the Lords Work. He loved cat fishing and hunting. He loved the outdoors and working outside. He loved playing the guitar with his granddaughter. He loved Country Music. Devoted father of Dale B. Long of Union Bridge, Kenneth E. and Debbie Long of Mt. Airy and Tammy and Ralph Conaway of New Windsor. Dear brother of Mabel McMillion and the late Mildred, late Kenneth and the late Marvin. Loving grandfather of Naomi Conaway. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 25, 2006, at 11:00 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) with Richard Long of the Catoctin Church of Christ officiating. Interment Pine Grove cemetery, Mt. Airy, MD. Serra, Winifred B.
Winifred Barbara Serra, 94 of Randallstown, died Friday September 22, 2006 at Westminster Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was the spouse of the late Rudolph J. Serra. Mrs. Serra was born November 12, 1911 in Baltimore, MD the daughter of the late Howard Fields Tibbals and Emily Klohr Tibbals. More affectionately known at “Miss Winnie”, she was a life long Randallstown resident living all 94 years of her life in the house her grandfather had built. Mrs. Serra was one of the 1st Crossing guards fro Baltimore County Public Schools at Randallstown, Elementary, A Life Member of Mt. Olive UMC in Randallstown, where she also had taught Sunday School. Mrs. Serra also taught Music at Happy Acres Nursery School. She enjoyed quilting. Surviving her are Daughter: Barbara Hammel of Oregon and Son and Daughter-in-law John and Barbara Serra of Sykesville. Grandsons; John Serra, Jr. and James Serra. Great-grandsons: Gunnar and Colton Serra. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday September 26, 2006 11:00 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A. 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784 with the Rev. Laura Lee Wilson of Mt. Olive UMC officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olive UMC cemetery, Randallstown, MD. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM.

Beck, Mary J.
Mary Jane Beck (nee Waltz), age 85, of Mt. Airy, died Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at home. She was the daughter of the late Clifton M. Waltz and the late Edna Waltz (nee Pickett). She was born February 16, 1921, in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the wife of the late Herman “B” Samuel Beck, Jr. She worked as a school teacher and retired as a Career Teacher and was a member of the Prospect United Methodist Church in Mt. Airy and the United Methodist Women. Devoted mother of Herman “Sam” & Pamela Beck, III of Mt. Airy, Clifton T. and Penni Beck of Mt. Airy, and mother of Margaret J. and Jeff Kershner of Mt. Airy. Dear sister of Barbara Barnes of Winfield, the late Margaret “Ishie” Perryman and the late Clifton “Buddy” Waltz, Jr. Loving grandmother of six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 9, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Prospect United Methodist Church, 5923 Woodville Road, Mt. Airy, Maryland with Pastor Susan Buhl of the Prospect United Methodist Church officiating. Interment Lake View Memorial Park cemetery, Sykesville, MD. Deitz, Anna M.
Anna Mae Deitz (nee Brown), age 78, of Woodstock (Granite), died Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at Union Memorial Hospital. She was the daughter of the late George A. Brown and the late Estella Mae Brown (Brown). She was born December 10, 1927, in Glasgow, Delaware. Beloved wife of William Wallace Deitz. She worked as a Supervisor at the Social Security Administration. Devoted mother of Terry W. Deitz of Granite and Gregg W. Deitz of Finksburg. Dear sister of Betty Conway of Eldersburg, Myrtle Bury, English Counsul and the late George Brown, Jr. Loving grandmother of five grandchildren. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 9, 2006 at 1:00 PM at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA 1212 W. Hidey, Charles R.
Charles Roland Hidey, 79 of Hebbville, MD, died Suddenly Sunday October 8, 2006 at Northwest Hospital Center, Randallstown, MD. He was the spouse of 57 years to Betty Jean Hidey. Mr. Hidey was born January 19, 1927 in Hebbville, MD the son of the late Augustus and Emma Clay Hidey. He was a Veteran of WWII serving in the Army. Mr. Hidey was a retired Plumber and partner in Garriott and Hidey Plumbing. He was a proud and devoted member of Salem United Methodist Church in Hebbville. He enjoyed watching baseball, watching his grandchildren play sports, golfing and gardening. Surviving in addition to his wife are Sons and their spouses: Ronald and Leisa Hiedy, Steven and Diane Hidey. Twin Daughters and their Spouses Cathy and Mitchell Anest and Cindy and Thomas Fertitta. Grandchildren: Christopher, Adam, Jeremy Hidey, Seth and Brent Hidey, Matthew and Rebecca Fertitta and Joshua and Benjamin Anest. Sister: Adelaide Hidey, Brothers Donald and Walter Heidy and Sister June Maring. Prceded in death by Brothers and Sister Ellsworth, Grace and Raymond Heidy. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 11, 2006 11 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A. 1212 West Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville, MD. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday form 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM.

Emge, Rylee J.
Rylee James Emge of Westminster, MD, died Sunday October 15, 2006 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. He was born July 12, 2006 at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, MD. The son of Ryan James and Meagan Kathleen Morgan Emge of Westminster. Surviving in addition to the parents are Maternal Grandparents: Doris Bowen of Westminster and James Morgan of Taylorsville and Paternal Grandparents: Monica and James Emge of Florida, formerly of Reisterstown. Aunts: Kristin Morgan of Westminster and Tara King of Owings Mills, Uncle Jeremy Emge of Reisterstown. Memorial Services will be held Sunday October 22, 2006 2:00 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. John S. “Jack” Ruby, age 62, of Mt. Airy, died Friday October 20, 2006 at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, MD. He was born May 17, 1944 in Manhattan, New York, the son of the late John S. Ruby and the late Mary Ruby (nee Holkovic). He was a Kitchen Designer for Home Depot. He loved to race sailboats. He was a member and Raced with “The Boating Center at J/Port Annapolis, MD . He loved the Horse track, Irish music and football. He was the husband of Carmen A. Ruby (nee Gray). He was the father of John Ruby, Brenda Ruby and Heather Ruby. Loving grandfather of Connor Ruby. Also survived by many friends that loved and supported him. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday October 24, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Calvary U.M. Church, 403 S. Main Street, Mt.
