Laverick, Maryann T.
Mrs. Maryann Theresa Laverick ( Tourangeau/ Koslowski) 45, of Mt Airy, Maryland. Maryann lost her courageous battle with breast cancer on Thursday May 10, 2007 at her home in Mt. Airy. Born on October 16, 1961 in Palmer Massachusetts, she was preceded in death by her father Walter and is the daughter of Linda (Calcagni) Koslowski of Brimfield Massachusetts. She attended high school in Brimfield Massachusetts where she lettered and was an all state tennis athlete in 1979. She graduated from Johnson and Wales College in Providence Rhode Island in 1981. Maryann worked for 12 years for Coventry Healthcare of Bethesda and recently was a homemaker who enjoyed her grandchildren, Gracie Tourangeau and Tyler Laverick. She loved cruises in the Caribbean, sunrises on the ocean and sunsets on the gulf. She also enjoyed golf and baseball, especially her beloved Boston Red Sox. She battled long and hard with her disease enduring years of treatment, never complaining and always looking forward to the next day. She had the brightest most infectious smile that would light up the entire room. She was so young and yet so brave. Surviving in addition to her mother is her husband, Walter Laverick of Mt Airy, brother Lou (Jackie) Koslowski of Dudley Massachusetts, William ( Linda) Koslowski of Brimfield Massachusetts, son and wife Jason and Angie Tourangeau of Westminster, her granddaughter Gracie Tourangeau of Westminster, grandson Tyler Laverick of Mt Airy, Lisa and Tara Laverick of Mt Airy, Eric Laverick of Baltimore, sister in law Charlene Valadez ( Richard) of Surprise, Az, beloved and dedicated friends Shelia (Dennis) Sherrill of Middletown, MD and Barbara ( Preston ) Suddueth of Raleigh, North Carolina, as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday May 15, 2007 10 AM at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, 1200 St. Michael Lane Mt. Airy, MD 21771. The Family will receive friends on Monday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784. Lyons, Asa
Asa Oliver Lyons, age 79, of Sykesville, died Saturday May 12, 2007 at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, MD. He was born March 9, 1928 in Centerville, PA the son of the late Charles and Hazel Lyons. He worked for Pepco Electric Co. in the Collections Office. He was the father of Cynthia M. Taylor and Danny Lyons. Brother of Ella Gertrude Hiland and Bernard Lyons. Also survived by 4 grandchildren 9 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Funeral Service will be held on Wed. May 16, 2007 at 10:00 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) with the Rev. O.F. “Bud” Kibbe officiating. Knight, Novella V.
Novella Virginia Knight (nee Grimes), age 67, of Woodbine, died Sunday May 20, 2007 at her home. She was born March 22, 1940 in Woodbine, MD the daughter of the late Chester Grimes and the late May Powell Grimes. She was the wife of Lowell Thomas Knight. She was an administrator/Manager for Computer and software application for APL. She was the church organist for Morgan Chapel U.M. Church in Woodbine for over 40 years. She was a member of Morgan Chapel U.M. Church. She loved Gardening, antiques and antique collecting. She loved vacationing in Maine. She was the mother of Patricia Gardner of Mt. Vernon, Maine and Craig Knight of Perry Hall, MD. Grandmother of Jason Gardner of Brewer, Maine. Also survived by an Aunt Doris Cross. Cousins: Diane VanLunkhyzen and Carolyn Stevenson. Also survived by niece Doreen Rizzo and Nephew Dwight Knight. Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA 1212 W. Old Liberty Road on Wed. from 7-9 PM. Alascia, Margaret A.
Margaret Alice “Sally” Alascia (nee (Burger), age 80, of Westminster, died Tuesday May 22, 2007 at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster, MD. She was born December 18, 1926 in St. Louis, Missouri the daughter of the late Isaac Burger and late Emma Gilpin Burger. She was a housewife and a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was the wife of the late Joseph Frank Alascia, Sr. She was the loving mother of Joseph Alascia, Jr. of Catonsville, Samuel and Kathie Alascia of Eldersburg, Michael and Susan Alascia, Sr. of Westminster, Dino Alascia of Westminster, Lisa and John Bierman of Westminster and the late Gina Wilder. Also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren and all loved ones. Catholic Prayers will be held Friday May 25, 2007 at 10:30 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA 1212 W. George Francis Burck, 87 of Baltimore, died Wednesday, May 23rd. He was the beloved Husband of C. June Burck and the devoted father of Pamela Burch and husband Robert Alrick, and Lamont Burck. Starkey, George L.
George L. Starkey, 55 of Mt. Airy, died suddenly Wednesday evening at his home in Mt. Airy. He was the spouse of Nancy Cox Starkey. He was born June 23, 1951 in Barnesville, MD the son of the late Joseph N. Starkey III and the late Rebecca Price Starkey. Mr. Starkey was currently employed by Finish Master Inc as a Technical Support Representative in Gaithersburg. He was highly regarded as an Automobile Refinisher for over 20 years. He was recently active in Drag Racing with neighbor Tony Tull and Go-Kart racing with friend Frank Mills. He was very supportive of his wife’s interest in working with Border Collies. Surviving in addition to his wife are Sisters: Joyce Williams of Gaithersburg, MD, Ellen Poteat of Mt. Airy, MD and Linda Frazier of Merritt Island, FL, Brothers: Joseph N. Starkey, IV of Mt. Airy and David Starkey of Severn, MD. Preceded in death by Sister; Jane Marie Day. Memorial Service date will be determined in the near future. Fiorelli, Michael A.
Michael Anthony Fiorelli, 43 of Marriottsville, died on Friday, June 1, 2007 at his home. Incredibly Beloved Husband of Tina Fiorelli (nee Embich) of Marriottsville. Proud, Loving and Devoted Father of Nicholas Michael Fiorelli of Marriottsville. Dearest Son of Anthony and Evelyn Fiorelli of Plant City, FL, and the late Joan Fiorelli. Loving Brother of James and wife Jan Fiorelli of Richmond, VA, Marybeth and husband Leif Dahl of Adamstown, MD, Mark and Martina Fiorelli of Jacksonville, FL. Also survived by step-sister, Andee and husband Tom Aldstadt of Winchester, VA, mother-in-law Susan Embich of Hunt Valley, MD, and Father and Mother-in-law Dale and Anne Embich of Wurtsboro, NY; 2 nieces and 4 nephews, cousins, aunts and an uncle. Mr. Fiorelli was a National Sales Manager for Pepsi and Lipton Companies. He also enjoyed Physical Fitness and Activities such as golf, skiing and football. He worked for the Baltimore Orioles during the time Cal Ripken broke Lou Gehrig’s streak. He also worked for the Baltimore Ravens during their Super Bowl reign and the Baltimore Bayhawks in their Championship year. He proudly served on the Board of MD Special Olympics. Bassman, Vivian
Vivian Wolfing Bassman, 62 of Sykesville, unexpectedly passed on June 2, 2007 at her home. She was the beloved Spouse of 30 years to Kenneth C. Bassmann. She was born October 8, 1944 in Baltimore, MD the daughter of Harold Wolfing and the late Vivian Ruth Wolfing. Mrs. Bassmann was a Kindergarten Teacher in the Anne Arundel County School System and also for the department of Defense in Germany. Mrs. Bassmann traveled extensively and lived abroad for several years. She was a Master Gardner and very artistic and creative., was an avid reader. She raised 2 wonderful children, Heather Bassmann, who is following in her mother’s footsteps as a teacher, and Gregory A. Bassmann, who is currently attending NY Medical College. She is also survived by 4 siblings. A Gathering of Friends will be held Saturday, June 9, 2007 2 to 4 PM at BURRIER-QUEEN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784. Caswell, Charlotte V.
Charlotte V. “ Dixie ” Caswell, age 75, of Mt. Airy, died Monday June 4, 2007 at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster. She was born March 21, 1932 in Unionville, MD the daughter of the late Clarence Luther Hatfield and the late Geneva Mae Hatfield (nee Smith). She was a homemaker and was much loved and will be missed by her family and friends at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Mt. Airy. She was the loving mother of Daughters; Elaine Wolfe Dura of Rye, New Hampshire, Linda Riddle and husband Steve of Sykesville, MD, Frances Middleton and husband Douglas of Westminster, MD, Pat Katkin and husband Jim of Portsmouth, NH, and sons James Wolfe of Westminster and John Taggart and wife Linda of Woodbine, MD. Dear sister of Florence Katzel, Frances Blacksten and Katherine Wieland and predeceased by 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Also survived by 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Funeral Service will be held Friday June 8, 2007 at 10:00 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) with the Rev. Lee, Jr., William H.
Mr. William H. Lee. Jr., age 83 of Mt. Airy, departed this life on Friday June 8, 2007 at 3 O’clock PM at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, MD. He was the husband of Nelda Edith Dorsey Lee for 61 years. Born June 9, 1923 in Cockeysville, MD to the late Rev. William H. Sr. and Late Myrtle Hall Lee. Mr. Lee served in the United States Army for 3 yrs as an Army Technician 4th grade. He worked at Mt.Wilson State Hospital for many years and also with the Baltimore County School System for 30 years retiring in 1985. Surviving in addition to his wife Nelda are five children; William Lee Jr. IIII and wife Jane of South Carolina, David Wayne Lee and wife Donna of Westminster, and James Edgar Lee and wife Katie of Hagerstown, MD, Patsy Ann Dorsey and husband James of Winfield and Carolyn Edith Gittings and Husband Charles of Mt. Airy. Two sisters Dorothy “George” and Frances Lee of Cockeysville and Two brothers Joseph Lee of Baltimore and Louis and Wife Sherrie Lee of Cockeysville, MD. Also survived by Brian A. Lee and 11 other grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and friends. He is predeceased in death by one grandson Derrus E. Bowie and 4 sisters and a brother. His Christian Education began at Gough U.M. Church in Cockeysville where he became involved in Sunday School and the Youth Choir, in 1961 he transferred his membership to Fairview under the leadership of Rev. Wilbur Young where he became Lay Leader, Lay Speaker, active in the Senior Choir, active in Boy Scout Troop the food ministry on Memorial Day, the Methodist Men choir and many many other organization an honorary Mason of the James E. Stewart Lodge #49 of New Market. He will surely be missed by everyone who knew and loved him. Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA 1212 W. Loretta Theresa Moxley, 82 of New Windsor, MD, died Friday June 15, 2007 at Sunset Ridge Assisted Living in Frederick, MD. She was the spouse of Melvin Urner Moxley of New Windsor, MD. Mrs. Moxley was born on Jan 4, 1925 in Thurmont, MD the daughter of the late Felix Shorb and late Edith Shorb. She a secretary for the School of the Deaf in Frederick, MD and also volunteer with the Frederick Literacy Council. In addition to her husband she is survived by a niece and nephew Jeanetta Kline and Michael Shorb and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday June 19, 2007 12 Noon at Locust Grove Church of the Brethren, 13356 Glissans Mill Rd. Mount Airy, MD 21771 with viewing at the church prior to the service from 10 until 12 noon. Interment will be in Locust Grove cemetery. Daniel J. Hinsche, 55 of Westminster, MD, died on Saturday June 16, 2007 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, MD. He was the spouse of Sandy J. Hoff Hinsche. Mr. Hinsche was born July 22, 1951 in Baltimore, MD the son of the late William Hinsche and the late Ann Lasko Hinsche. He was employed by the Social Security Administration. He had a variety of hobbies; Golfing, Fishing, Sailing, Skiing, doing handy thing s around the house, Spending time at The Beach. But his main focus was his children and grandchildren. Surviving in addition to his wife are Son and Daughter-in-law Steven and Kelly Alexander of Sykesville, Daughter Angela Stull of Westminster. Grandchildren: Zane Stull and Ian Alexander.
