Marianna K. Garrity Marken, 67 of Mt. Airy, MD, died Suddenly Saturday, June 16, 2007 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the spouse of Jack Gordon Marken of Mt. Airy, MD She was born December 23, 1939 in Pottsville, PA the daughter of the late Richard and late Marion Garrity. Mrs. Marken was a homemaker and was formerly a Registered Nurse at St. Joseph ’s Hospital. She was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Past President of Glenwood Garden Club, Loved Gardening, Antiques and Traveling. Surviving in addition to her husband are Son and Daughter-in-law Jeffery and Toni Marken of Westminster, Daughter and Son-in-law Kathy and Jamie Makers of Mt. Airy. Brother; Bill Garrity of Minersville, PA. Grandchildren: Nicole Marken, Kaitlyn Makers, Danny Marken and Jack Makers. Preceded in death by brothers: Richard and Tony Garrity. A Funeral Liturgy will be said on Wednesday June 20, 2007, 10:30 AM at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Sappington Hall, 9201 Church St. Libertytown, MD 21762 with Fr. John Dietzenbach officiating. Interment will be in the St. Peters cemetery. The Family will receive friends at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A. 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784 on Tuesday from 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Susan G. Koman for the Cure, 5005 LBJ Freeway Ste. 250 Dallas, TX 75244.

Burch, William L.
William L. Burch, age 62, of Randallstown, died Tuesday June 19, 2007 at his daughter’s home in Hampstead. Bill was born August 9, 1944 in Baltimore, MD the son of Thelma Knapp (nee Sorrell) and the late Robert Oscar Burch. Bill was a Retired Baltimore City Police Officer. He was a member of Holy Family R.C. Church in Randallstown. Bill loved his grandchildren and being with his family. He was an avid gun collector, loved fishing and motorcycling. He loved American History and loved the Baltimore Orioles. Father of Bridget Hyatt of Hampstead, Billy Burch of West Chester, PA and Matt Burch of Clear Brook, VA. Brother of Robert Burch of Eldersburg and Betty Ann Granek of Carolina Beach, N.C. Also survived by 10 grandchildren. Funeral Liturgy (MASS) will be held Saturday June 23, 2007 at 9:00 AM at Holy Family R.C. Church, 9535 Liberty Road, Randallstown with the Fr. Walter McGovern officiating. Interment will be in Holy Family cemetery 10636 Liberty Road, Randallstown. Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA 1212 W. Strohminger, Melvin
Melvin Strohminger, age 95, of Mt. Airy died Tuesday June 19, 2007 at Carroll Hospital Center, in Westminster, MD. He was born September 24, 1911 in Baltimore, MD the son of the late Franklin John Strohminger and the late Florence Gertrude Strohminger (nee Sears). He was a retired Accountant for B & O railroad for 49 years. He served in the Navy during WWII. He enjoyed gardening and specialized in Roses. He was the husband of the late Theresa F. Strohminger (nee Salchunas). He was the father of Melvin Strohminger of Baltimore and Robert Strohminger of Mt. Airy. He was predeceased by brother Charles Franklin Strohminger and a sister Gladys Florence Stewart. Also survived by 3 grandchildren, Mitchell Sears Strohminger of Montreal, Canada, Nina Suzanne Strohminger of Ann Arbor. Michigan, and Margot Frances Strohminger of Baltimore, MD. Gathering of family and friends will be Friday June 22, 2007 at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) from 1:00PM-3:00PM with a Memorial Service at 2:30 PM with Rev. O.F. “Bud” Kibbe officiating. Private Inurnment.

Miller, Leah
Leah Grace Miller (nee Fisher), 98 of Westminster, died Thursday June 21, 2007 at The Dove House in Westminster. She was the beloved wife of the late Nelson T. Miller who passed in 1990. She was born August 16, 1908 in Ellicott City, MD the daughter of the late Frank and Goldie Fisher. Her mother died when she was 12 and was raised by her aunt Leah Grace Easton of Easton and Sons Funeral Directors. She was a homemaker until later in life when she worked 20 years for Dr. A.K. Crowther, an OBGYN, until his death. Devoted mother of Leah and husband Larry Gahn of Westminster. Loving Grandmother of Julie and Skip Baylor of Columbia, Kevin Gahn of Westminster, Dennis and wife Peggy Gahnof Catonsville, Theresa Gahn of Westminster, Kerry and wife Lisa Gahn of Arbutus, Larry Barnard, Cheryl Smith of Oklahoma and Edward Barnard, California. Also survived by numerous great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by daughter, Lillian Joan Barnard who died in 2000 and grandchild Steve Barnard, and sisters: Lillian Schanze, Beatrice Raley and Helen Columbo. In accordance with Mrs. Miller’s wishes their will be no viewing. Memorial Services to follow at a later date and she will be cremated and intured next to her husband in Loudon Park cemetery. Spurrier, Doretta L.
Doretta L. Spurrier, 78 of Baltimore, died On Sunday, July 1, 2007 at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Beloved wife of the late Donald C. Spurrier, Sr. Born and raised in Woodberry, MD on February 12, 1929. Mrs. Spurrier was a homemaker and a former Nurses Aide at Arlington Baptist Nursing Home. She was a member of Arlington Baptist Church. and also enjoyed reading. Devoted mother of Donald C. Jr., Dennis W. and David M. Spurrier. Dearest sister of Jeanne Mulligan. Loving Grandmother of 10 grandchildren. Friends may call Thursday July 5, 2007 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM at Arlington Baptist Church, 3030 N. Rolling Rd. Baltimore, MD 21244. Where funeral services will be held Friday July 6, 2007 11 AM. VonGarrel, Annabelle F.
Annabelle F. “Mickey” vonGarrel (nee Robinson), age 71, of Sykesville, died Sunday July 1, 2007 at Carroll Hospital Center, Westminster, MD. She was born May 7, 1936 in Cambridge, Massachusetts the daughter of the late Henry Burrell and late Theresa Burrell. She was the wife of the late Herman G. vonGarrel. She was a Caregiver for Various Nursing Homes. She enjoyed her grandchildren and cat. Survived by her children Ronald and Wife Diane Overton of Buffalo, NY, Conrad and wife Rachael vonGarrel of Smithsburg, MD, Chris and wife Sandy vonGarrel of Frederick, MD, and Rosemary and husband Andrew “Butch” Ogle of Westminster. Grandmother of- Ronald Overton, David Overton, Jason Tipaldos, Jessica vonGarrel, Jenica vonGarrel, Andrew Ogle, Anthony Ogle, Caitlin vonGarrel, Mallory vonGarrel, Summer vonGarrel and Zachary vonGarrel. Sister of Florence “Lovey” Ward of Boston, Massachusetts. Funeral Service Thursday July 5, 2007 at 1:00 PM at Salem U.M. Church, Salem Bottom Road, with the Pastor Walter Bosman officiating. Bessie U. Pickett (nee Wain), age 79, of Ellenton, FL, formerly of Sykesville, MD, died on Wed. July 11, 2007 at Tidewell Hospice Palliative Care in Palmetto, FL. She was born September 21, 1927 in East Liverpool, Ohio the daughter of the late Percy Wain and Bessie U. Wain (nee Mellott). She was a retired cashier for Giant Food Store. She was a member of Baltimore Ostomy Association. She was the wife of John Edward Pickett, Jr. She was the mother of Wain Edward Pickett of Hanover, PA, Rebecca Darlene Steigelman of Carlisle, PA and Cherie Ursula Strosnider of Manchester, MD. Dear sister of Robert Wain of Barnesville, Ohio, Dean Wain of East Liverpool, Ohio, and David Wain of Woodstock, MD and the late Phyllis Boisvert. Also survived by 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral Service will be held Monday, July 16, 2007 at 10:00 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA 1212 W. Patrick Anthony Thayer, age 36, of New Windsor, died on Wed. July 11, 2007 at his home. He was born August 16, 1970 in Silver Spring, MD the son of Thomas C. Thayer and wife Jane of New Windsor and Linda D. Harmel (nee Wheeler) of Frederick. Brother of James N. & Jean Thayer of Frederick, Jennifer R. and Jason Cantrell of Ijamsville, Maren K. Thayer of Utah, Michelle Harmel of Frederick, Melissa Harmel of Frederick and Matthew Harmel of Florida. Loving grandson of Bette J. Wheeler of Mt. Airy. Also survived by numerous Aunts, Uncles and nieces and nephews. He was a Self-employed Builder contractor. Garst, Patsie L.
Patsie Lee Garst (nee Himes), age 76, of New Windsor, died on Thursday, July 12, 2007 at her home, after she lost her battle with cancer. Born July 7, 1931, in Walkersville, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Myra Zimmerman Himes. She was the wife of Donald Lee Garst, her husband of 55 years. She was a homemaker and devoted most of her life to taking care of her family and volunteering her time in the community. She was an active member of St. Paul ’s United church of Christ for over 35 years, singing in the choir and serving as guest organist/pianist for worship services and special events. She served as St. Paul ’s UCC Homewood Auxiliary representative to both Crumland Farms and Plum Creek. She was active in the community; volunteering her time to judge at the Carroll County 4-H and FFA Fair and other area community shows and fairs. She played the organ and piano for Deerfield Senior Day and Therapy Center. She and her husband were partners in Garstlyn Farm. She graduated in 1948 from Walkersville High School and worked at Kemp’s Department Store, Frederick, for several years following graduation. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, cooking and music. Surviving, in addition to her husband are children Diane Flickinger and husband Richard of Union Bridge, Bradley Garst and wife Sheila of New Windsor and Dale Garst and wife Barbara of Linwood; grandchildren Danielle and Samantha of New Windsor and Katherine and Eli of Linwood; a sister Myra “Peggy” Garst and husband John; aunt Kathryn Z. Holter; sisters-in-law Louise Cline and Virginia Coblentz and husband Paul and brothers-in-law Richard Garst and wife Florence and Denton Garst and wife Peggy. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends. The family will receive family and friends on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, MD (Beside South Carroll High School). Private Interment. A memorial Service will be held on Monday July 23, 2007 at 7:30 PM at St. Paul ’s United Church of Christ, 17 Bond Street, Westminster, MD with her pastor Rev. Rouzer, Jane
Jane Reidy Rouzer, 86 of Mt. Airy, MD, died suddenly Saturday July 14, 2007 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the spouse of the late Harry Edward Rouzer. She was born August 25, 1920 in Baltimore, MD the daughter of the late Franklin Reidy and Late Sarah Evans Reidy. She was a homemaker and enjoyed crafts and flowers. She also attended Sharon Missionary Baptist Church. Surviving are Daughter and Son-in-law Harriet and Albert Lacey, Jr. of Nottingham, MD, Son and Daughter-in-law Gilbert M. Sr. and Deborah Rouzer of Abbottstown, PA, Son and Daughter-in-law Barry W. and Gina Rouzer of Bunker Hill, WV, Daughter and Son-in-law Shirley J. and John Phebus of Martinsburg, WV, Daughter and Son-in-law Terry and Mark Fortin of Mt. Airy, MD. Also survived by 13 Grandchildren, 16 Great-grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren. Preceded in death by daughter Linda Carol Rouzer. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday July 17, 2007 11 Am at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A. 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784 with the Rev. William Phebus of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Jessie Ida Bigler (nee Warren ), age 95, of New Windsor, died Sunday July 15, 2007 at Carroll Hospice-Dove House in Westminster. She was the wife of the late Harold Frank Bigler. She was born August 1, 1911 in Wallaceton, PA the daughter of the late Daniel E. Warren and the late Mary Ellen Warren (nee Frank). She was a homemaker. She was the mother of the late Frank H. Bigler and mother in law of the late Joan M. Robinson Bigler and the late Shirley A. Spoon Bigler. She was one of seven siblings that predeceased her. Loving grandmother of Jacqueline Bigler Weisz and husband Mark of Pittsburgh, PA, Larry Bigler of Dunedin, FL., Jerry and Christy Bigler of Sagle, Idaho, and Kathleen A. Winkelmann of Newport, N.C. Predeceased by grandchildren Daniel and Dennis Bigler and grandson in law Joseph Winkelmann. Also survived by granddaughter in law Susan Bigler of Sheridan, NY and 11 great grandchildren and numerous great great grandchildren and grand nieces and grand nephews. James Ernest Pickett, 84 of Mt. Airy, died Friday July 20, 2007 at Lorien of Mt. Airy. He was the spouse of the late Frances Lusetta Moxley Pickett. He was born January 30, 1923 in Long Corner, MD the son of the late Harry William Pickett and Florrie Mullinix Pickett. He was a retired Electrician at Bethesda Navel Hospital. Mr. Pickett used to own and operate an Antique Shop, Loved to Shoot Pool and Bowl. Surviving him are Sister and brother-in-law Doris and Webster Utz of Long Corner, MD. Step Daughters: Janet Barnes of Westminster and Joyce Gardner of Dillsburg, PA and numerous other relatives. Preceded in death by brothers; W. Donald and Marshall E. Pickett. Funeral Services will be held Monday July 23, 2007 11 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery, Frederick, MD. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 5 to 7 PM.
