Sarah S. "Sadie" Liddle Douglass, age 82, formerly of Randallstown, MD died Monday February 17, 2003 at Long View Nursing Home in Manchester, MD.

She was born January 4, 1921 in Airdrie, Scotland the daughter of the late John Liddle and the late Helen Storrie Liddle.

She was the wife of the late John C. Douglass, Sr.

She had worked at the Farm Bureau as a secretary and most recently retired from the Social Security Administration Baltimore Federal Credit Union.

She was member of Mt. Olive U.M. Church in Randallstown. Active participant in the Randallstown-Liberty Exchange Club. And Randallstown Bowling League.

Mother of Ronald C. Douglass & Stephanie of Westminster, and David H. Douglass & Dale of East Stroudsburg, PA and the late John C. Douglass, Jr.

Sister of Ella May Meneely of Elizabeth, PA

Also survived by 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren

Funeral Service will be held at Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) on Friday February 21, 2003 at 4:00 PM with Rev. Sheila McCurdy of Mt. Olive U.M. Church in Randallstown officiating.

Private Interment

Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) on Friday from 2-4 PM

Roland A. Gosnell, Jr. 81, of Mt. Airy, MD
1921 - 2003

Roland A. Gosnell, Jr. age 81, of Mt. Airy, MD died Monday February 24, 2003 at his home.

He was born November 6, 1921 in Mt. Airy, Carroll County, Maryland the son of the late Roland Anthony Gosnell, Sr. and the late Dorethene E. Gosnell (nee Gunn).

He served in the Army during WWII in the Medics. He had his Realty License, agent for 25 years. He retired from being self-employed, Gosnell Flooring Contractor business for 35 years. He was a member of the State Central Committee Republican Party for 10 years and member of the Tax Assessment Appeals Board for 10 years. He was a Life Member of VFW # 8806 in Union Bridge. He was a Life Time Charter member of the Westminster Elks #2277, and a member of Taylorsville-Winfield Lions Club for 48 years and 1 month, joined January 24, 1955, and he was awarded the highest Lionism award, the Melvin Jones award. He loved the water, fishing, boating and crabbing on the bay. He loved to snow ski. He graduated in 1939 from Mt. Airy High School.

He was the husband of June S. Gosnell (nee Stoner).

He was survived by his son and daughter in law Brett S. and Kim Gosnell of Mt. Airy, his sister and brother in law- Nan and Earl Hyde of Linwood, MD and sister in law- Jean Gosnell of Oakland, MD. He was predeceased by brother Charles E. Gosnell. He was a loving Pap of Austin and Kyle Gosnell. Survived by several nieces and nephews.

Brother in law of Carl Stoner and wife Margie of Westminster and survived by an Aunt Dorothy Gosnell of Mt. Airy.

Memorial Service will be held Sunday March 2, 2003 at 2:00 PM at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, MD (Beside South Carroll High School) with the Taylorsville-Winfield Lions Club and the Westminster Elks #2277 participating in the service, with the Rev. John O. Price, Methodist clergy officiating.

Private Interment

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Charity of your choice in memory of Roland A. Gosnell, Jr.

Calvin Theodore Condon, Sr., age 91, of Mt. Airy, died Wed. February 26, 2003 at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, MD.

He was born August 17, 1911, Sams Creek, Maryland the son of the late Douglas Condon and the late Daisy Dean Condon.

He worked for Rocko Meats in Thurmont as a Meat Cutter.

Husband of the late Mildred Mabel Condon (nee Gosnell) who died on January 27, 2002.

Father of Calvin Theodore Condon, Jr. of Mt. Airy

Brother of the late Austin B. Condon and the late Evelyn Franklin

Grandfather of Calvin T. Condon III of Mt. Airy, Leslie Condon of Ranson, West Virginia and Jason Condon of Hedgesville, West Virginia.

Funeral Service will be held Sunday March 2, 2003 at 12:30 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, MD (Beside South Carroll High School) with the Rev. O.F. "Bud" Kibbe, Methodist clergy officiating.

Interment will be in Taylorsville U.M. Church cemetery in Taylorsville, MD. Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home on Saturday 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Arrangements made by: Burrier-Queen Funeral Home

Marie E. King VanSyckle, 94, formerly of Randallstown, MD, died Saturday March 1, 2003 at Carroll Lutheran Village in Westminster..

Mrs. VanSyckle was the spouse of the late Gardner VanSyckle.

She was born December 26, 1908 in Baltimore, MD, the daughter of the late Thomas and Late Nannie Marie Dalryimple King.

Mrs. VanSyckle was a Homemaker, and also an active member of Wards Chapel United Methodist Church, Randallstown, MD.

Surviving are Daughter and Husband: Joyce L. and Charles A. Hirsch of Westminster; 3 Grandchildren: Larry, Lisa and Debbie; 2 Step Grandchildren: Charles and Gary; 4 Great Grandchildren Christopher, Lauren, Zachary and Lindsay.

Funeral Services will be conducted of Tuesday March 4, 2003 11:00 Am at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 West Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784 with Rev. Donald Burgard of Wards Chapel UMC officiating

Interment will be in Woodlawn cemetery, Woodlawn MD

The Family will receive friends at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home on Monday from 2-4 and 7 to 9 PM

Mary J. Pickett (nee Stem), age 98, of Sykesville, died Wed. March 5, 2003 at Continuum Care in Sykesville, MD

She was born April 24, 1904 in Winfield, MD the daughter of the late Charles Guy Stem and the late Sarah Catherine Stem (nee Williams).

She was the wife of the late E. Earl Pickett and late Robert L. Pickett.

She farmed for 3-4 years, she worked at Springfield State Hospital as a nurse for 22 years and She was a presser for Westminster Clothing Factory

Survived by son E. Emerson Pickett of Lisbon; one grandson, Christopher E. Pickett of Lisbon; two great grandchildren Christopher R. and Kenneth D. Pickett both of Lisbon; Sister of the late Francis Stem and late John Stem. Also survived by several nieces and nephews

Funeral Service will be held Saturday March 8, 2003 at 10:00 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, MD (Beside South Carroll High School) with the Rev. Charles Main, retired Methodist clergy officiating

Interment will be in Morgan Chapel U.M. Church cemetery, Woodbine, MD

John A. "Jack" Nethen, age 76 of Glen Burnie, died Sat. March 8, 2003 at Howard County General Hospital, Columbia, MD

He was born July 3, 1926 in Baltimore, MD the son of the late Adolph F. Nethen and the late Ruth Nethen (nee Halfpenny).

He was the husband of the late Mary Ellen Nethen-Belcher (nee Gathercole).

He was Owner of Claude Neon Signs, Inc. He served in the Navy Air Corp. during WWII. He was a Charter member at Milford Mill U.M. Church in Pikesville. He was Past President and served on the Board of Directors for both the Advertising Club of Baltimore and the Maryland Sign Association and Eastern State Sign Council.

Survived by son, Jan F. Nethen of Whiteford, MD and daughter Claire Hetrick of Ellicott City and son Gary K. Nethen of Manchester.

Brother of Robert Nethen of Ocean Pines, Alan Nethen of Pasadena, Anna Lee Fuller of Wakefield, Kansas and Bonnie Howatt of Pasadena.

Also survived by 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 15, 2003 at 10:30 A.M. at Chapelgate Presbyterian Church, 2600 Marriottsville Road, Marriottsville, MD 21104, with the Rev. Newton B. Hetrick officiating.

W. Roby Pickett, Sr., age 81, of Sykesville, MD, died Monday March 10, 2003 at Carroll County General Hospital, Westminster, MD.

He was born May 14, 1921 in Carroll County, Sykesville, MD, the son of the late Shriver E. Pickett, Sr. and the late F. Elizabeth Haines Pickett.

He was a self-employed Dairy Farmer and Cattle Dealer. He was a school bus driver for Carroll County Public Schools. He served in the Army during WWII, receiving two Purple Hearts. He was a member of Westminster Moose, Sykesville American Legion, Westminster VFW and the Westminster Elks Club.

Husband of the late Donna Jean Unger Pickett.

Father of Helen McQuay and husband Kenneth of Sykesville, W. Roby Pickett, Jr. and wife Carol of Westminster, Ronald Pickett and wife Deborah of Sykesville, Betty Williams and husband Malcolm of Reisterstown, and Cheryl Holl and husband Richard of Westminster.

Father in law of Denise Poole of Woodbine.

Brother of Pearl Knauff of Sykesville and Shriver Pickett, Jr. of Union Bridge.

Also survived by 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by daughter Roberta McQuay and son Ernest Poole, Jr. and 4 brothers and 1 sister.

Funeral Service will be held Friday March 14, 2003 at 10:00 A.M. at Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) with Rev. Elizabeth Senft, of Messiah Lutheran Church in Berrett officiating.

Interment Lake View Memorial Park

Hazel Viola Haines Frizzell 89, Watersville, MD
1913 - 2003

Died Saturday March 15, 2003 at Carroll County General Hospital.

She was the spouse of the late Truman A. Frizzell

Mrs. Frizzell was born December 31, 1913 in Watersville, MD

The daughter of the late William Pickney Haines and the late Naomi Viola Haines.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Frizzell was a member of Watersville United Methodist Church before it’s closing. She was the last survivor of 12 Children.

Surviving her are Sons and Daughter in-laws: William and Eleanor Frizzell of Mount Airy, Robert and Sue Frizzell of Mount Airy, Kenneth and Rosa Lee Frizzell of Westminster and Son-in-law Gilbert Mayne Sr. of Mount Airy.

10 Grandchildren, 6 Great-grandchildren and 3 Great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by Daughter: Betty L. Mayne and Great grandson Jerry Calliflower, Jr., Also Preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters: Edith Thacker, Ann Morsberger, Eleanor Esworthy, Claude, Charlie, Delton, William, Roland, Henry, Albert, and James Haines.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Tuesday March 18, 2003 10 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 West Old Liberty Rd. Winfield MD

Interment will be held at Prospect UM Church cemetery

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM
