1915 - 2003

James D. Middleton, age 88, of Mt. Airy, died Friday April 4, 2003 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Mt. Airy.

He was born January 4, 1915 in Tuckasegee, North Carolina the son of the late James Middleton and the late Arlecia Shook Middleton.

He was a retired welder for Alpha, Portland Cement Company. He was Baptist by faith.

Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Columbine Tritt Middleton; three daughters; Velma Jackson and husband Wade of San Mateo, Florida, Carol Cornett and husband James of Westminster, S.C., and Alma K. Weamer and husband Tim of Bishopville, MD., two sons; David L. Middleton and wife Barbara of Mt. Airy and Douglas W. Middleton and wife Frances of Westminster.

Also survived by 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; and one brother and sister in law Alvin and Mae Middleton of Tuckasegee, North Carolina. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Melba Morine Middleton and two brothers and five sisters.

Funeral Service will be held Wed. April 9, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Moody Funeral Home, 714 W. Main Street, Sylva, NC 28779 with the Rev. Eugene Crawford officiating.

Interment will be in the Middleton cemetery, Tuckasegee, NC.

Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, (Beside South Carroll High School) on Sunday from 7-9 PM and at the Moody Funeral Home on Tuesday from 7-9 PM.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to your favorite charity of choice.

Jacob S. Young 82, Mt. Airy, MD
1920 - 2003

Jacob S. Young, age 82, of Mt. Airy, Died Thursday April 10, 2003 at Northampton Manor Health Care in Frederick.

He was born December 19, 1920 in Mt. Airy, Maryland, (Frederick County). The son of the late Herman H. Young and the late Eva Schneider Young.

He was employed by Mullinix Grain and Fertilizer Co. in Woodbine. He was a life long member of Locust Grove Church of the Brethren in Mt. Airy. He served as an usher at the church for many years.

Dear Brother of Sara Louise Selby of Mt. Airy and Fannie Anderson of Mt. Airy.

Uncle of Jean Pickett of Mt. Airy and Larry and Fred Anderson of Monrovia. Also survived by several great nieces and great nephews.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday April 12, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Locust Grove Church of the Brethren, 13356 Glissans Mill Road, Mt. Airy, MD 21771 with the Rev. Wallace "Bud" Lusk of Locust Grove Church of the Brethren in Mt. Airy officiating,

Margaret K. Wedge (nee Knight), age 90, formerly of Catonsville, died Monday April 21, 2003 at Golden Age Guest Home in Sykesville, MD

She was the daughter of the late Maurice L. Knight and the late Mamie Schaeffer Knight.

She was born June 2, 1912 in Baltimore, MD

She was the wife of the late Thomas V. Wedge.

She was an executive secretary for B & O Railroad and USF & G.

Aunt of Michael L. Knight, Sr. of Winfield, Stephen J. Knight of Glen Burnie and Margie Knight of Salisbury.

Funeral Liturgy (Mass) will be held on Thursday April 24, 2003 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Community 915 Liberty Road, Sykesville, MD with Fr. Paul Reich, SM officiating.

No Public Viewing

Interment will be in Loudon Park cemetery

Leo Theodore Vogelsang 75, of New Windsor, MD
1927 - 2002

Died Monday April 21, 2003 at Westminster Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was the spouse of Joyce M. Pruett Vogelsang

He was born November 14, 1927 in Baltimore, MD

The son of the late Leo J. Vogelsang and the late Eleanor Shealey Vogelsang

Mr. Vogelsang worked for 42 years for Western MD Railroad and CSX.

He was a Member of the United States Marine Corps and served in WWII and Korea. Mr. Vogelsang was also a Member of the Merchant Marines from 1948 to 1951. Active Member of the crew of the Liberty Ship USS John W. Brown.

He is survived by 3 Brothers Ronald of Baltimore, Joseph of Baltimore and Eugene Vogelsang of PA and Sister Evelyn Frank of Randallstown. 3 Step Daughters: Joyce Ann Vogelsang of PA, Rebecca Jennings of DL and Sandra Currence of Winfield, 2 Stepsons: Thomas and Robert Warner both of Winfield. Also survived by numerous Step Grandchildren and Step Great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by Sister Mary Greenwalt.

Memorial Services will be held Thursday April 24, 2003 at BURRIER-QUEEN FUNERAL HOME, 1212 WEST OLD LIBERTY RD. WINFIELD, MD 7:00 Pm with Msgr. Arthur Valenzano of St. John R.C. Church, Westminster, MD officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Winfield Volunteer Fire Company, 1320 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784

Mae Elizabeth Lohoefer 87, of Woodbine, MD
1915 - 2003

Mae Elizabeth Lohoefer (nee Kirby), age 87 of Woodbine, died Friday April 25, 2003 at Westminster Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Westminster.

She was born June 19, 1915 in Baltimore, MD, moved to Woodbine in the late 1950's, the daughter of the late Will and Minnie Kirby.

She worked for Old McCormick Spice Co. in Baltimore for 5 years, which is where she met her husband Charles Lohoefer, Jr. and then worked at Wire And Assembly the early years and then Westinghouse Electric Co. in Linthicum for 9 years and then she retired to be a homemaker till going into Assisted living in late 1997.

Predeceased by husband Charles Z. Lohoefer, Jr.

Surviving are a sister Virginia Spacek of Brooklyn Park, son and daughter in law Charles III and Alice Lohoefer of Woodbine, grandson and wife Charles IV and Michele Lohoefer of Woodbine, grandson Kenneth A. and wife Lauren Lohoefer of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Step-granddaughter Tammy Cantwell and husband Chris of Woodbine and 7 great grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be held at Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) on Monday April 28, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Charles Frederick, Lutheran Pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in Loudon Park cemetery, Baltimore, MD

Pallbearers may include; Kenny Lohoefer, Charles Lohoefer IV, Alice Lohoefer, Bobby Gardner, Garry Bish and son Charles Lohoefer III.

Horace Greeley Guynn, Jr. 91, of Woodbine, MD
1912 - 2003

Died Thursday May 1, 2003 at his home.

Born February 22, 1912 in Connellsville, PA the son of the late Horace Greeley Guynn, Sr. and the late Augusta Ruff Guynn. He was the husband of 57 years to Janice Harner Guynn

Mr. Guynn was a lumberman; farmer and he retired from General Motors in Baltimore in 1972. He attended Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Winfield, MD. He was an avid Hunter, Fisherman and Outdoorsman.

Surviving in addition to his wife are daughter Karen Krug and husband Dan of Lineboro, MD, Son Gary Guynn and wife Judy of Taneytown, MD, Son Richard Guynn and wife Susan of Frederick, MD and daughter Sharon Llera and husband Tony of Miami Lakes, FL 9 grandchildren Rachel Day, Jessica Jones, Sarah Guynn, Virginia Guynn-Alenskis, Jeremiah Guynn, Elizabeth Guynn, Tony Llera, Shannon Llera and step grandson Jeremy Krug; 3 Great-grandchildren and 2 step- great-grandchildren.

Sisters: Nell Midtgaard and June Betz both of Baltimore, brother Howard Guynn of Woodbine and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings; Augusta Cline, William, Don, Dan and Helen Guynn.

A Funeral Service will be held Monday May 5, 2003 11:00 AM at BURRIER-QUEEN FUNERAL HOME, 1212 West Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784. with the Rev. Dr.Gayle Annis-Forder of Ebenezer UMC officiating.

Interment will be in Taylorsville UMC cemetery, Taylorsville, MD.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM

Joseph John Foltz 76, of Sykesville, MD
1927 - 2003

Joseph John Foltz, age 76, of Sykesville, died Saturday May 3, 2003 at his home.

He was born February 17, 1927 in Mt. Ranier, Washington, DC the son of the late Elbie Wilbur Foltz, Sr. and the late Catherine Foltz (nee Edwards).

He retired as a System Analyst for the State of Maryland. He graduated from Calvert Hall High School. He was a Sgt. In the Army during WWII. He was a member of Taylorsville-Winfield Lions Club for 31 years, and was Lions Club Treasurer for 26 years. He was awarded the highest Lionism Award, the Melvin Jones Award in 2002. In December 2002, the Taylorsville-Winfield Lions Club named the baseball field as "Joe Foltz Field" in his honor for his many years of service in Lions Club and Baseball. Joe was one of the original founders of the Taylorsville-Winfield Lions Club baseball league.

Besides being a member of Taylorsville Winfield Lions Club since 1972, he was a member of the Westminster Elks #2277 and past member of Freedom Optimist.

He was married January 4, 1954 in Elkton, MD the husband of Emma M. Foltz (nee Peddle) of Sykesville.

Brother of Betty J. Law of Wilmington, DE, Mary Lou Savering and husband Jack of LasCruces, NM, Richard L. Foltz, Sr. and wife Brenda of Sykesville and the late Patricia A. Cady.

Grandfather of Elizabeth Eller and husband Rob of Albuquerque, NM, John and Daniel Ely of Mt. Airy, MD, Eric and Ryan Foltz of Street, MD.

He was born June 2, 1958 in Silver Spring, MD the son of Mary Ellen (nee Thibadeau) Crown of New Windsor and the late Bernard L. Crown, Jr.

He was a stonemason and President of Crown Brothers Masonry Contractors, Inc. in Mt. Airy

He was the Director of New Hope Outdoors and member and Elder of New Hope Fellowship Church in Westminster and was an avid hunter.

He was the husband of Cheryl L. (nee Hughes) Crown, wife of 24 years.

Father of Thomas B. Crown, James (Johnny) Crown, Amanda N. Crown and Brittany L. Crown all of Mt. Airy.

Brother of Daniel E. Crown of Union Bridge, Lorraine Garheart of Littlestown, PA, Joseph Crown of Westminster, Robert (Doug) Crown of Westminster, Lisa Grossweiler of Thurmont and predeceased by a brother.

He was a self-employed Electrical Engineer.
