Mr. James A. Ramsey, 88, Frederick, died Friday May 6 at Golden Living Center in Frederick. He was the husband of Leona W. Ramsey who died in 2002.
Born in Benwood, WV, September 1, 1922 he was a son of the late Carl Edward and Rose Ramsey. he was a retired employee of of the city of Norfolk, VA; a member of the Greenridge Baptist Church in Boyds and a charter member of the national Railway Historical Society in Norfolk.
he is survived by:
1 son - Carl A. Ramsey - Frederick
1 granddaughter - Yvonne L. Disbennett and husband Jonathan - Frederick
The family will receive friends on Tuesday May 10 at the Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown from 6 to 8 PM. Funeral services will be held 11 AM on Wednesday May 11 from Greenridge Baptist Church, 21925 Frederick Rd., Boyds. Rev. Jeddie DeFries and Rev. Tim Simpson will officiate. Interment will be made in Manor cemetery, Frederick.
Memorial contributions may be made to Greenridge Baptist Church in Boyds.

PATRICK M. ARTHUR
January 22, 1953 - May 7, 2011
Mr. Patrick M. Arthur, 58, Middletown, collapsed while coaching his girl's soccer team in Germantown and died at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Gaithersburg on Saturday May 7. He was the husband of Anne Lauver Arthur.
Born in Washington, DC on January 22, 1953 he was a son of Marianne de Roubaix Arthur, Lake Forest, IL and the late Macon Michaux Arthur.
He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, Frederick. He received his BS degree in Microbiolgy from the University of Maryland and was employed as a project manager with Ke`aki Technology at Ft. Detirck. He was a member of the Middletown Valley Athletic Association and had coached soocer for many years.
Surviving, besides his mother and wife, are:
2 children - Evelyn A. Arthur and Eric M. Arthur - both of Middletown
twin sisters - Danielle Lucca - McLean, VA and Elizabeth Hamilton -
Lake Forest, IL
The family will receive friends on Thursday May 12 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St. Middletown. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday May 13 from All Saints Episcopal Church, 106 W. Church St., Frederick. Rev. Columba Gilliss will officiate. Burial will be made in Christ Reformed Church cemetery, Middletown.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Middletown Valley Athletic Association, 31 W. Main St., Suite A, Middletown, MD 21769.

HELEN ELIZABETH MINNICK
September 22, 1922 - May 14, 2011
Mrs. Helen Elizabeth Minnick, 88, Middletown, died Saturday May 14 at Glade Valley Nursing Center in Walkersville. She was the wife of the late Richard Stanley Minnick who died Feb. 27, 1993.
She was born in Philadelphia, PA on September 22, 1922 the daughter of the late John and Minnie Renn Levering and was a retired employee of the American Optical Co. in Frederick.
She is survived by:
1 son - Rocky Minnick and Sarah Gilbert - Frederick
1 daughter - Sheila Harris - Frederick
1 grandson - Richard Harris - Frederick
2 brothers - John Robert Levering - Frederick and Albert Levering - Middletown
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Mrs. Grace Virginia "Chick" Bowlus, 70, Middletown, died Thursday July 7, 2011 at her home. She was the wife of Roscoe William "Mike" Bowlus who died September 11, 1992.
Born in Myersville, December 30, 1940 she was a daughter of the late Walter S. Jr. and Grace Flook Bidle. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown, and was employed as a mail carrier with the U S Postal Service in Middletown until her retirement.
She is survivied by:
2 children: Dwayne and Sue Bowlus - Hagerstown and Sherri and Chuck Taylor - Boonsboro
3 granddaughters - Beth, Jennifer, and Courtney Bowlus
4 brothers - Drexel Bidle - Boonsboro; Arthur K. Bidle - Crownsville; Thomas Bidle and Jerry Bidle - both of Myersville
3 sisters - JoAnn Sefsic - Middletown; Gloria Ritchie - Hagerstown; Cheryl March - Myersville
She is also survived by special nieces and nephews - Tamara Buchanon, JR Warrenfeltz, and Tyler Bidle
She was predeceased by the following brothers and sisters - Junie Bidle, Buzz Bidle, Bill Bidle, Ronnie Bidle, Kitty Fogle.
The family will receive friends on Sunday July 10 at the Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown from 2 to 5 PM. Funeral services will be held 11 AM on Monday July 11 from Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown. Rev. Tim May will officiate. Interment will be made in Zion Lutheran church cemetery.

KATHRYN MCKEE GIEBEL
August 2, 1921 - August 26, 2011
Kathryn McKee Giebel, age 90, daughter of the late Georgeanna and A.B. McKee died peacefully at her home in Frederick, Md.
Kathryn is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years, Jim Giebel and her children: Georgeanna Matson, Jim (and Sharon) Giebel, Kathy (and Tim) Corbett, Ken Giebel(and friend Laura Nunes), and Mary (and Joe) Keimig. She is also survived by her beloved 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Kathryn had a career at Woodworth and Lothrop in McLean, VA and the Central Intelligence Agency at Langely, VA while raising her 5 children.
The viewing will be held from 5 to 7pm on Wednesday, August 31, 2011, at the Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St. in Middletown MD, (Alternate 40), 301-371-6070.
Funeral services and Mass will be held at St.John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 112 E 2nd Street, Frederick, MD, 21701, 301-662-8288, on Thursday, September 1, 2011, at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven cemetery, 13801 Georgia Ave. Silver Spring, MD 20906, 301-871-6500.

CLETIA VIRGINIA BITTLE
February 2, 1925 - September 2, 2011
Cletia Virginia Bittle, 86, Frederick, died Friday September 2, 2011 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of Ralph E. Bittle who died October 14, 2003.
Born in Rosemont, February 2, 1925 she was a daughter of the late John Elmer and Ada Brubaker Bartlett.
She is survived by:
1 son - Emory Eugene "Gene" Virts and wife Tricia - Jefferson
1 daughter-in-law - Gloria Virts - Frederick
2 grandchildren - Kristi Ann Buckalew and husband David - Myersville and Brian Eugene Virts and wife Ann - Wolfsville
1 sister - Betty Murray - Frederick
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
She was predeased by a son Harold Stanley "Dick" Virts Jr. and several brothers and sisters.
The family will receive friends on Monday September 5 at the Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown from 2 to 4 PM.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM on Tuesday September 6 from the funeral home. Rev. Tim May will officiate. Interment will be made in the Jefferson United Methodist cemetery.

HARRY REED JENKINS JR.
May 6, 1930 - September 8, 2011
Mr. Harry Reed Jenkins Jr., 81, Middletown, died Thursday September 8, 2011 at Frederick Memorial Hospital from complications of sepsis. He was preceded in death by his wife Kathryn Kershner Jenkins of 55 years and a brother Millard Lee Jenkins of Milton, DE.
Born in Martinsburg, WV on May 6, 1930 the son of the late Harry R. Sr. and Elizabeth Egle Jenkins. He spent his early years on a farm near Sheperdstown WV until moving to the Charles Town area in 1940.
He graduated from Charles Town High School in 1948; earned his BS in Biology at Sheperd College in 1952 and received his Master of Science from the University of Maryland in 1954. He also received his Master of Science in Education from Shippensburg in 1969. He also attended Rutgers University and University of Richmond.
He was a Master Mason in Malta Lodge #80.
He moved to Middletown in 1961 and taught at Middletown High School from 1954 until 1982.
If you were to ask him about a former student, he had instant recall about them. He was a good storyteller and very knowledgeable about vintage automobiles and had the ability to overlook an individual's shortcomings and find their better qualities.
He is survived by a son - Harry R. Jenkins III of Sheperdstown and his fiancee Beverly Bailey.
There will be no funeral services. His ashes will be taken to Jefferson County, WV.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 107 W. Main St., Middletown, MD 21769. Mr. Jenkins son would like to thank his neighbors of Locust Blvd. in Middletown for taking care of him in his later years.

Frances Sheffer
March 3, 1921 - September 22, 2011
She is survived by three children; Robert F. Sheffler and wife Brenda L. of Charles town, WV, Richard L. Sheffer and wife Linda J. of Middletown and Lynn F. Palmer and husband Donald R. of Myersville, MD; three grandchildren, Scott A. Sheffer and wife Shannon I. of Inwood, WV, Robert Daniel Sheffer of Charles Town, WV, and Deborah L. Stup and husband Jason M. of Chewsville, MD; two great granddaughters, Madison Nicole Sheffer of Charles Town, WV and Danica Lynn Stup of Chewsville, MD; one sister, Frances Virginia (Barnes) Sheffer, 90 of Middletown, MD, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2011 while vacationing in North Carolina. Born March 3, 1921 in Boonsboro, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles Clayton and Irene Mae (Lantz) Barnes. She was the wife of the late Frank D, Sheffer who died May 1988.
Marie Malott of High Point , NC; two sister-in-laws, Virginia Barnes of Williamsport, MD and Tina Sheffer of Frederick, MD; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Frances was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Flynn and Gladys Sowers Hollinger, and one brother, Edwin Barnes.
Frances was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown where she taught preschool and Sunday school for many years. She was a member of Zion Daughters Sunday School Class and served on the Christian Fellowship Committee as a greeter. She was a life member of the Middletown Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, Senior Citizens of Middletown, AMVETS Post 9 and the AARP Chapter 636. She also volunteered for many years at the Frederick Memorial Hospital and was recognized for dedicated service.
Frances was raisedon a farm in the Devil’s Backbone area of Boonsboro, MD and later worked at Fairchild Industries during WWII as a “Rosie the Riveter”. She and her husband Frank worked the family farm west of Middletown for more than 40 years with her in-laws Frank and Ruth Sheffer. She enjoyed and participated in many activities at her church. She enjoyed eating out with her friends and living life to the fullest. She was a good neighbor and friend to all who knew her.
Friends will be received from 2:00 – 4:00 PM, Sunday, September 25, 2011 at the Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, Middletown, MD. The funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Monday, September 26, 2011 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown with internment immediately following in the Zion cemetery, Middletown. Her pastor, the Rev. Kathy Vitalis Hoffman will officiate.

ELIZABETH KAY BOWERS
July 9, 1950 - September 24, 2011
Mrs. Elizabeth Kay "Libby" Bowers, 61, Myersville died unexpectedly Saturday September 24, 2011
at her home. She was the wife James Bowers for 35 years.
She was born July 9, 1950 a daughter of Lucille Bowser Wiles, Myersville and the late Charles Ellsworth (Hambone) Wiles.
As a child, Libby was member of the girl scout Troop 1250 in yellow springs. She attended Yellow Springs Elementary School, West Frederick Junior High School and graduate from from Thomas Johnson high School Class of 1968.
Libby's work ethic was phenomonal. She began working at McCrory's 5 and 10 cent store and People's Drug Store while in high school. After graduation, trained as a clerk at State Farm, but a desk job just wasn't for her. At that time she began a career in the restaurant field spending over a decade working at Peter Pan Inn in Urbana. She spent over 6 years at Western Sizzler Steakhouse , Frederick; 15 years at the Comus Inn and spent the last 15 years working in Middletown - 9 years at Boone's Family Restaurant and 5 years for her daughter Lisa at Mid Town Diner and a year at Dempsey's Grille. Last year she decided to quit what she loved due to declining health. That was too much for her to accept.
Libby knew nothing except a life of hard work. At the young age of 22, her husband, Marvin Russell Heatherly was killed, as a result of an automobile accident. She had two young daughters Lisa age 6 weeks and Mary age 2. Thanks to a strong family she came from she was able to survive this horrible tragedy. She and her children moved back to Myersville with her parents. Despite the many challenges she faced, she always persevered and found in her heart to give and reach out to those in need. It didn't matter how much or how little if she could give, she did.
She loved researching her family heritage. deep love for gardening, and spending time with her grandkids and great-grandson Russell.She lived to put a smile on someone's face. If she couldn't make you laugh or smile no one could. She loved the act of giving and helping people.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown where she taught Sunday school for 17 years. She was a member of Middletown Valley People Helping People. She had strong roots in the Middletown Valley and was extremely proud of the fact that 7 generations were baptized in Zion Lutheran church.
She is survived by her mother Lucille Bowser Wiles - Myersville; her husband Jim - Myersville; and daughters Mary Heatherly and friend Tom Tobery - Williamsport and Lisa Montgomery and friend Sherrill Schultz of Hagerstown; granddaughters Reva Heatherly of Myersviile, Kaylyn Horner of Smithsburg, great-grandson Russell Heatherly; a step-son Darrin Bowers and wife Debbie of Walkersville.
1 brother - Chuck Wiles - Myersville; sisters-in-law Judy Blackledge and husband Dave of Frederick
and Doris Schwaner and husband Marshall of Frederick.She leaves behind many cousins, nieces, aunts, and uncles.
As a result of her caring, giving,unselfish ways of life Libby leaves behind many close friends and colleagues.
Libby was preceded in death by her "King" , her father Hambone in 1988; her sister Linda Wiles; her cousin Thomas Wiles and his son Alan Wiles; another cousin Stevie Wiles and a sister-in-law and best friend Norma Jean Smith.
Libby was a very loving and and generous soul who saw the best in everyone and every situation. She will be remembered for her kindness and generosity. She was truly a courageous, honest, unselfish soul who put others ahead of herself. She lived her life for others, not herself and always used laughter to get through every situation.
The family welcomes your presence at Libby's visitation from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middldetown.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM on Wednesday September 28 from Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown, 107 W. Main St., Middletown. Rev. Kathy Vitalis Hoffman, her pastor, will officiate. Interment will be made in Zion Lutheran cemetery, Middletown. A social luncheon will be held after the service and interment.

MARGARET N. MORGAN
September 29, 2011
Mrs. Margaret Nicol Morgan died Thursday, Sept. 29 at her home near Burkittsville.
She was the wife of the late Gerald D. Morgan.
Born March 15, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Charles William and Mary Bell Nicol.
She was founder and past president of The Middletown Valley Club of Republican Women. She also was actively involved in both the National and Maryland Federation of Republican Women serving in a number of capacities.
Over the past decades, Mrs. Morgan also was involved in numerous local, state and national Republican campaigns.
She was a member and former senior warden of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Sharpsburg, MD.
She also was a patron of Frederick Memorial Hospital, and served on various committees. She also was a member of the Green-Walled Garden Club and the Frederick County Historical Society, the Capitol Hill Club and Chevy Chase Club.
Mrs. Morgan received her degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Survivors include two daughters, Josephine Ranney McNally and Lisbeth Diamond McCleaf (Steven); two grandsons, Brian T. McNally (Caryn) and Justin T. McNally; one nephew, Barney Nicol; two nieces, Susan Nicol and Robin N. Hester and one great nephew, Colin Hester. She also is survived by numerous cousins and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, C. William Nicol Jr. and a sister, Josephine B. Nicol.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. ­­4 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Sharpsburg with the Rev. Mark Wastler officiating. Private interment will be held in Sleepy Hollow cemetery, Tarrytown, N.Y.
Donald Thompson Funeral Home, Middletown, is handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Sharpsburg, the Washington National Cathedral for earthquake repair or the Frederick County Animal Control Shelter.
