MacMILLAN, CARRIE L.

On June 7, 2003, Carrie Louise (nee Bruce) of Columbia, MD, beloved wife of the late Neil MacMillan Devoted mother of Marjorie Hever of Columbia Mrs. MacMillan was predeceased by her siblings Charles, William and Bessie Bruce, Anna MacKeen and Zoe Schulze. She is srvived by her grandchildren, Roberta Lipe, John and D. Neil Hever and 6 great grandchildren.

YOUNG, JOHN W.

On June 5, 2003, John Wesley of Howard County, beloved husband of Mary Ann (nee Houston) Devoted father of Michael Hamilton, Robert and Roslyn Jackson, Jan, Jeffrey, Julia and Shelley Young. Brother of Peggy Hammond, Clarence and Phillip Young. Mr. Young is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, 2 daughters-in-law, Roberta Jackson and Debera Young, 1 son-in-law, Paul Carroll, 1 aunt, Gladys Clipper, his mother-in-law, Mary Jane Houston, a goddaughter, Lori Ann Young, 4 brothers-in-law, 5 sisters-in-law and a host of neices, nephews, other realtives and friends.

SEIBER, WILLIAM R. "BUNKY"

On May 13, 2003, William R. "Bunky" Seiber of Baltimore, beloved life partner of David Wibell. Mr. Seiber was preceeded in death by his parents. William R. and Elizabeth (Stover) Seiber and is survived by his foster parents Mr. & Mrs. James Burke, his sisters Betty "Sissy" Affeldt and Sharon Williams. his nephews Jim and Matt Affeldt and his neices Julie Stover, Kristie and Mindy Williams.

STIRN, MARY GERTRUDE

On August 19, 2003, Mary Gertrude (nee Grimes) Stirn, 104, lifelong resident of Howard County and beloved wife of the late A. Roy Stirn. Devoted mother of Thelma C. Stirn of Ellicott City and the late Donald R. Stirn. Mother in law of Gladys V. Stirn, grandmother of Donna Lynn Boswell, Beverly Sue Oskin and the late Douglas R. Stirn. Great grandmother of Teresa King, Troy, Brent and Randy Oskin, Steven Boswell and Justin Stirn. Great great grandmother of Rachel and Nicole King and Julian Oskin. Ms. Stirn was predeceased by 2 sisters.

BEATRICE M. ALLEN, 92

Beatrice Moulton Allen, 92, of Ellicott City, and formerly of Westminster, MD, died Monday, August 18, 2003 at her home. Born in Portland, ME to the late Charles Henry Moulton of Island Pond, VT and Ella Teresa Dunn of Tipperary, Ireland, she moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada as a young girl when her father's job with the railroad necessitated the move.

Bea graduated in 1934 from the Nursing Program at Winnipeg Hospital. On December 10, 1941, 3 days after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Bea joined the United States Army as a nurse. Her deployments included England, North Africa, Italy, France, Japan, and ultimately Korea, where she met her future husband LTC Ollie James Allen, who was also in the Army at the time. During their 53 years of marriage, the Allen's lived in West Point, NY, Washington, DC, Ft. Monmouth, NJ, France and Columbus, GA, where "Jim" retired from the military. They moved to Ellicott City in late 1959.

Bea continued her nursing career while in the military and upon retiring as a Captain in the Army continued to work at Kimbrough Army Hospital in Fort Meade as a Labor and Delivery Nurse. Later she worked at the VA Hospital in Baltimore City and the Patuxent Institute. She retired as a charge nurse at St. Joseph Nursing Home in Catonsville.

Bea is a Charter Member of the Women in Military Service for America Memorial at Arlington National cemetery. A long time communicant at St. John's Episcopal Church in Ellicott City, Bea was active with the Altar Guild and instrumental in forming the St. John's Bereavement Support group.

In addition to her church work, Bea enjoyed gardening, knitting and embroidery and hosting bridge parties. The Allen's were avid travelers and enjoyed their numerous trips overseas and within the US.

Surviving in addition to her husband, LTC Ollie James Allen USA Retired, son and daughter-in-law Rex and Hollys Allen of Ellicott City, son and daughter-in-law Kelly and Sherry Allen of Westminster. She is the cherished grandmother of Blair Emory, Lindey Frances and Willow Madison Allen of Ellicott City, Capt. Robert James Allen USMC of Beauford, SC., Bryan Patrick, Kelley Christine and Patrick Joseph Allen of Westminster. Predeceased by daughter Elizabeth and sister Magdalene Moulton of Montreal.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 24 from 4-6 pm at St. John's Episcopal Church, 9120 Frederick Rd., Ellicott City, MD 21042, where a Memorial Service will be held at 11 am on Monday. Interment Private. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ms. Allen's name may be directed to St. John's Altar Guild at the above address or the Carroll Hospice Inpatient Facility at 95 Carroll St., Westminster, MD 21157.

KENNETH E. COOK

On July 30, 2003, Kenneth Ellis Cook, beloved husband of Margaret Anne (Hodges) Cook. Loving father of Mark James Cook and Jo Ellen Cook DeFosse. Dear brother of Constance Jean Rinkoff. Cherished grandfather of Monica Anne and Maria Louise DeFosse.

A Celebration of Ken's life will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, August 16, 2003 at the Sandy Spring Fire Department in Sandy Spring, MD. Kenneth E. Cook, 73, died July 30, 2003 at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Great Neck, NY and lived the past 32 years in Brookeville, MD.

Ken graduated from Cornell University, served as a pilot in the Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. He taught at the University of Virginia while working for the Virginia Highway Research Council. He worked at the Transportation Research Board of the National Academy of Sciences until his retirement in 1995. He was instrumental in helping Native Americans establish the Intertribal Transportation Association.

Diagnosed with cancer in 1996, Ken turned this devastating disease into a personal crusade. Together with his wife, Magee, he started and seerved as facilitator for the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit's Cancer Support Group at the University of Maryland, Greenbaum Cancer Center that has met every Wednesday since 1998. He determninedly fought the battle to have Medicade pay for transplants for Multiple Myeloma, lobbying Congress and giving testimony before HICFA. He was one of those instrumental in getting the Health Care Finance Administration to change the rules so there was coverage for stem cell transplants for Multiple Myeloma patients up to age 77. This change became effective October 1, 2000. Ken also served on the Board of Visitors at the Unversity of Maryland, Greenbaum Cancer Center.

Ken and his family were deeply grateful to his sister Connie for donating her stem cells for a bone marrow transplant for Leukemia, which took place on July 21, 2003, and to his Greenbaum Cancer Center caregivers who gave him the six best years of his life.

In lieu of flowers his family requests that those who are able donate blood at the University of Maryland by calling 410.328.7508.

The family is also setting up a fund called the "KC Bear Fund". The fund will provide a "KC Bear" to every patient on the day they receive their stem cell transplant at the University of Maryland.

CAMPION, MARK E.

On November 11, 2004, Mark Edmund Campion, 58, beloved husband of Marylee Barnes, loving brother of Mary Ellen Dolan and her husband Peter of Catonsville, Steven Dennis Campion and his wife Carol of Simi Valley, CA and the late John Patrick Campion. He is also survived by many loving neices and nephews. Mark was involved in Baltimore's Community Theatres for over 30 years. He was active in all aspects of theatre and has acted in over 50 plays. He was last seen on stage as Waldo Lydecker in "Laura" at Theatre Hopkins in 2002.

SIMONS, JEANNE M.

On March 8, 2005, Jeanne Anna Marie Simons, 95, of Howard County MD, passed away at her home in Columbia, MD. She was the beloved aunt of Helene van Oijen who cared for her for the past six years. Ms. Simons is also survived by her brother Antoine Simons and numerous other neices and nephews in the Netherlands. A pioneer in the field of autism, Ms. Simons established the Linwood Children's Center in Ellicott City in 1955. Today, the renamed Linwood Center continues to serve chilren and adults wilth autism.. BAILEY, ROY D., JR.

On March 3, 2005, Roy Davis Bailey, Jr., beloved husband of Joetta Cramm. Loving father of Kathleen and Keith Bailey. Dear Stepfather of Ken, Greg and Kyle Koppenhoefer. Cherished grandfather of 2 and step grandfather of 3.

A Memorial service will be held Staurday March 12 at 11:30 a.m., at the Mt. Hebron Presbyterian Church, 2330 Mt. Hebron Drive, Ellicott City. Interment Private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may directed in Mr. Bailey's name to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, 6 Herndon Ave., Annapolis, MD 21403.

Roy Davis Bailey, Jr., an avid sailor most of his life, died March 3, at home in Ellicott City, at the age of 70, after battling lung cancer for nearly 5 years. He was an early Commodore for the Baltimore Organization 'Singles on Sailboats'. His 'Irish Mist', a 26 foot Pierson, sailed many cruises, including the 'Roaming with Roy ' summer excursions for the SOS Club. Later he moved up to a 34 foot, 'Sea Story.

A computer manager with Blue Cross/ Blue Shield for nearly twenty years, he later worked in Arlington, Virginia as a contractor in the Naval Personnel department. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956-58 and in recent years enjoyed attending the reunions of the 'Roanoke', a ship that he served on during that time.

Born in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, his parents came to Maryland when their son was seven. He grew up in Inverness, graduating from Dundalk High School . During his High School years he worked for the Circle Drive Inn, a popular gathering and eating place for youth in the 50's. In recent years he attended DHS school reunions.

He worked for a time at Bethlehem Steel as a young man. He enjoyed coaching baseball for his son and daughter's teams. He was the only child of Harriet Schwerdtfeger Bailey and Roy D. Bailey; Sr. Family members knew him as 'Jay'. He enjoyed researching his mother's family history as the family lived in New Mexico, Florida and Illinois during the 19 th century.

He earned an AA degree from the Community College of Baltimore County and worked with computers in the early days of the technology.

In 1999 he received a liver transplant at the University of Maryland . During the past five years he battled lung cancer. He married Joetta Cramm, his significant other of 20 years in 2003. The couple eloped to Spencer County, Indiana, where the bride's family homesteaded. She was his devoted caregiver during many years of his serious health problems.

Mr. Bailey leaves a daughter, Kathleen Bailey of Phoenix, AZ, a son, Keith Bailey of Harford County, MD, three stepsons, Ken, Greg and Kyle Koppenhoefer, 2 grandchildren and 3 step grandchildren.

His marriage to Nancy Dashiells ended in divorce.

A memorial service will be held at Mt. Hebron Presbyterian Church, 2330 Mt. Hebron Drive, Ellicott City, MD 21043 on Saturday, March 12, 2005 at 11:30 am . with Rev. Sidney Venable presiding. A luncheon will follow at historic Hebron House. Mr. Bailey's cremated remains will become part of the Eternal Reef Project off the coast of Ocean City, MD.
