Rodger Lee Ferrell

Mr. Rodger Lee Ferrell, 61, of Poolesville, MD died peacefully at his home on Saturday February 23, 2008.
He was the loving husband of Jonnie Ferrell.
Born in West Virginia on January 3, 1947 he was the son of Robert E. Lee Ferrell of SC and the late Cora Sutton Ferrell.
Mr. Ferrell proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1964 - 1986.
Surviving besides his wife and father are his children; Robert John Ferrell of WA, Cora JoAnne Helms of SC, Dawn Marie Ramos of Frederick, Teresa Lynn Ferrell of Frederick, one brother, Jim Ferrell of MO, one sister, Bobbie Sullivan of SC and six grandchildren, Christina, Melissa, Maria, Erin, Tiffani and Michelle.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Friday February 29th at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109), Barnesville, MD.
Inurnment with military honors will take place at 2 PM on Thursday March 6 at the Arlington National cemetery, Arlington, VA. Please arrive to the cemetery office by 1:30PM.

Catherine Cornelia Dorsey

Mrs. Catherine C. Dorsey, 79, of Harpers Ferry, WV, died peacefully on Tuesday February 12, 2008 at the Canterbury Nursing Home in Shepherdstown, WV.
She was the loving wife of James D. Dorsey, Jr.
Born on December 1, 1928 in Redland, MD she was the daughter of the late George and Ethel Zimmerman Walter.
Surviving is one daughter, Margo Williams and husband Thomas of Falling Waters, WV, five sisters, Harriet Lifka of FL, Helen Offutt of Frederick, MD, Lorraine Sadtler of Damascus, MD, Dorothy Thompson of Adamstown, MD, Jeannette Watkins of Clarksburg, MD, three grandchildren, Michael Spry and wife Christy of DE, Christopher Williams and wife Jessie of KY, Lindsey Williams of WV and three great grandchildren, Briar Williams, Andrew and Cara Spry.
Catherine was preceded in death by three brothers, Norman, George and Franklin Walter, two sisters, Charlotte Childs, Ethelene Ayton and two infant sisters.
The family will receive friends on Thursday February 14th from 4-7pm at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109), Barnesville, MD.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday February 15th at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 18230 Barnesville Rd., Barnesville, MD.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Lucille Jones Sheriff

Mrs. Lucille Jones Sheriff, 91, of Adamstown, formerly of Florida, died peacefully on Thursday February 7th, 2008.
She was the wife of the late Roger Sheriff, Jr. who preceded her in death in 1988.
Born in Dickerson, MD she was the daughter of the late John and Mamie Pyles Jones.
Lucille was a graduate of Poolesville High School and attended Washington School for Secretaries. She worked for PEPCO Washington DC for 25 years and retired as secretary to the Vice President of PEPCO. Lucille was also an avid golfer and bridge player.
Surviving is her sister, Dorothy J. Elgin of Poolesville, MD, one sister-in-law, Phyllis S. Frederick of Florida, one stepson, Roger H. Sheriff of Virginia and many nieces and nephews. She will always be remembered by a special nephew, Charles Elgin, Jr. and wife Donna of Adamstown.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Bettie J. Newman, Rosalie J. Freeman and one brother, John A. Jones, Jr.
The family will receive friends on Monday February 11th from 7-9 pm at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109), Barnesville, MD.
Inurnment will be private.

Carol Sue Besaw

Miss Carol S. Besaw, 35, of Poolesville, MD died on Monday January 28 at the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, MD.
Born on October 24, 1972 in Frederick, MD she was the daughter of the late Mary E. Thompson.
Surviving are her two sisters, Brenda K. Besaw, Patricia A. Besaw; one brother, David Lee Besaw; her step-father, Albert Lee Thompson all residing in Poolesville. "We love you Sis".
She will also be dearly missed by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and the many friends she loved.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday January 30 from 7-9 pm at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109), Barnesville, MD where funeral services will be held on Thursday January 31 at 11 am.
Interment will follow in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville, MD.

Peggy D. Magee

Peggy Dorothy Magee, 88, a sales clerk at various clothing stores in Virginia, Oklahoma and Maryland, died Jan. 16 at Mary's House assisted living in Rockville.
Born in Norwich, England, she married a U.S. soldier and moved to the United States in 1946, becoming a U.S. citizen on March 16, 1966. Peggy moved to Maryland in 1986, living first in Poolesville before moving to Frederick in 1997.
A devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she took an active role in the daily lives of her family, living with her daughter for many years while her grandchildren were young.
In her later years, her fondest memories were of bicycling to the beach with her brothers and sisters near their childhood home on the southeast coast of England. She loved to read, dance and garden, spending countless hours tending her beloved violets.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marjorie Seely and Rita McQuade, both of Norwich. She is survived by two brothers, Paul Dunt and Anthony Dunt, both of London, Ontario; a sister, Jill White of Norwich; a daughter, Karina (Michael) Flynn of Poolesville; two granddaughters, Bonnie (Oliver) Stohr of Rockville and Christina (Martin) Schneider of Poolesville; and two great grandsons, Zachary and Evan Schneider, both of Poolesville.
The family will be receiving friends from 3-5pm on Saturday January 26 at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109), Barnesville, MD 20838.

James K. Richmond

Mr. James K. Richmond, 85, a much beloved husband and father, died Monday, January 7, 2008 at his home in Poolesville, Maryland.
He was born September 18, 1922 in Baltimore, the son of James M. Richmond, Jr. and Elizabeth Thomas Kinsey. He was brought up in Baltimore and graduated from Forest Park High School.
During World War II, he served as a Marine fighter pilot in the South Pacific. He returned to active duty for the Korean War to serve as a flight instructor. He spent his entire career as an executive with Exxon, beginning in 1946 and retiring in 1982.
He married Margaret Bryan in 1944. In 1956, Jim and Margaret moved to the Woodside Park neighborhood of Silver Spring, Maryland, where they lived until moving to Poolesville in 2001. In their years in Silver Spring, they were active members of St. Michael's Church.
Jim is survived by his wife Margaret and their three children, Susan Richmond and her husband Rob Livernash of Alexandria, VA, Fran Picariello and her husband Peter of Poolesville, and Barbara Blake and her husband Ed of Kilmarnock, VA. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Erin and Rachel Picariello of Poolesville and a sister, Betsy Rosson of Manassas, VA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday January 11 at the Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church, 17230 Tom Fox Ave., Poolesville. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the Mass.
Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven cemetery, Silver Spring, MD.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America at www.bgca.org.

Joshua A. Bohr

Mr. Joshua A. Bohr, 24, of Poolesville, MD died on Tuesday January 1, 2008.
He was the son of Roy and Patricia Bohr of Poolesville.
Surviving besides his parents is one sister, Amy Bohr of Martinsburg, WV, one brother, Michael Bohr of Poolesville, his maternal grandparents, Andrew and Tina Hernandez, one niece, Melissa Bailey and two nephews, Eric and Sean Bailey.
The family will receive friends on Friday January 4 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109), Barnesville, MD where funeral services will be held on Saturday January 5 at 1 pm.
Interment will follow in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville, MD.

Celesta Sharlene West

Mrs. Celesta Sharlene West, 71, of Poolesville, MD died on Thursday December 27, 2007 at the George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC after an extended illness.
She was the loving wife of Russell G. West.
Born on April 14, 1936 in Indian Valley, VA she was the daughter of the late Early and Gerusha Phillips Hollandsworth.
Sharlene was a lifelong member of the Poolesville Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a greeter, usher and hugger extraordinaire. She participated in the Adult Sunday School class, United Methodist Women's Group, Crafty Ladies and Gents, Ladies Covenant Discipleship, was a member of the Emmaus Community, lifetime member of the Upper Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and also a member of the International Organization of Odd Fellows Rebekkas.
Sharlene was a devote Christian, a dedicated wife, beloved mother and Grannie. She was a friend to all and leaves a loving extended family.
Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Kathy Cody and husband Ed of Poolesville, Karen West Williams of Dickerson, MD one sister; Treva Cannaday of VA and two grandsons; Brian and Jason Cody of Poolesville.
Sharlene was preceded in death by one grandson, Kelly Orville Williams, III, two sisters; Gaye Buckner Wade, Geneva Bryson and three brothers; Lucas Monroe, Melvin and Everett Hollandsworth.
The family will receive friends on Sunday December 30 from 3-5 and 7-9pm at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109), Barnesville, MD.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday December 31 at the Poolesville Memorial United Methodist Church, 17821 Elgin Road, Poolesville, MD 20837.
Interment will follow in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville, MD.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Sharlene's name to the Poolesville Memorial United Methodist Church, "Memorial Fund".

Richard L. Bennett

Mr. Richard "Dick" L. Bennett, 77, of Gaithersburg, MD died on Sunday December 23, 2007.
He was the husband of Joan M. Bennett.
Born on July 12, 1930 in San Diego, CA he was the son of the late Robert and Mildred Lontz Bennett.
Surviving besides his wife are his children; Cheri Hachem, Natalie Bennett, Christine Zeigler, Linda Smale, Richard Bennett, one sister; Carole Soule, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Friday December 28 at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road (Rt. 109), Barnesville, MD.

Sadie Dye Hunter

Mrs. Sadie D. Hunter, 94, of Beallsville and Frederick, MD died on Thursday December 20, 2007 at the Edenton Retirement Community in Frederick.
She was the wife of the late John R. Hunter, Sr.. They were married August 29, 1940.
Born on August 10, 1913 in McAlester, OK she was the daughter of the late Joe and Ester Archbold Dye.
Surviving is her son, John and wife Jane Hunter of Beallsville; two grandchildren, Anne Hunter of Leesburg, VA and Jim Hunter of Barnesville, MD; one great grandson, one sister, Bea Henry of Muskogee, OK and several nieces and nephews.
Sadie was preceded in death by one brother, John and four sisters; Sally, Frank, Ester and Evola.
Graveside services and inurnment will be held at 1 PM on Friday December 28th at the Monocacy cemetery, 19801 W. Hunter Road, Beallsville, MD.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Sadie's name to the Monocacy cemetery, P.O. Box 81, Beallsville, MD 20839.
