John E. "Jack" Oxley, Jr.

Mr. Jack Oxley, of Rockville, MD passed away on Friday November 27, 2009. He was 75 years old. Born on May 10, 1934 he was the son of the late John E. Oxley and Anne Branson Oxley. Surviving him are his sister, Virginia Oxley West; his nieces, Lisa West Frazier and Amy West Liedstrand; four great nephews, one great niece and numerous cousins; special friends Linda and Jerry Harris, Michele Craig, David Postovit and Ruth Cropley, and two very special multi-generational friends, Ivan and Iris Postovit - his "grandchildren". Jack was the Founder and President of Oxley Insurance and Bonding Company - founded in 1957 and now known as Oxley & Goldberg Insurance Agency. He was a lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church in Rockville, MD and served as an acolyte, choir member, Sunday school teacher, St. Anne's member and usher. He was a Charter Member of the Rockville Exchange Club and the Rockville Lions Club. Jack was a member of the Montgomery County Board of Realtors, Montgomery and Prince Georges County Independent Insurance Agents Associations. He is a former member of Congressional and Lakewood Country Clubs. Jack loved cooking, gardening and entertaining friends. He was a graduate of Georgetown Preparatory School in Bethesda, MD. He attended Washington College in Chestertown, MD and graduated from American University in DC. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 11:00 am at Christ Episcopal Church in Rockville, MD.directions In lieu of flowers, Jack requested donations to Christ Episcopal Church Youth Ministries, 107 So. Washington St. Rockville, MD 20850. Arrangements entrusted to Hilton Funeral Home, Barnesville, MD. Private Interment will be in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville, MD.

John M. "Jack" Drescher, Jr.

Mr. John M. "Jack" Drescher, Jr., 85, of Clarksburg, MD died peacefully on Wednesday November 25, 2009.
He was the husband of Christine McCabe Drescher.
Jack was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Holy Name Society of St. Mary's and Knights of Columbus #6901.
Surviving besides his wife are his children, Steve Drescher and wife Karen, Joanne Munzer and husband Steve, four brothers, Earl, Robert, William and Edward Drescher, two sisters, Jean Shanks, Alice Soderstrum and six grandchildren, Joshua, Zachary and Sarah Drescher, Christopher and Michelle Munzer and Melissa Wiley.
Jack was preceded in death by one daughter, Joyce Drescher.
The family will receive friends on Friday November 27th from 3-6pm at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 18230 Barnesville Rd., Barnesville, MD where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Saturday November 28th. The family will also be receiving friends one hour prior to the Funeral Mass.directions
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Jack's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1893, Memphis, TN 38101-9950 (stjude.org)

Herbert J. "Jack" Miller, Jr.

Mr. Herbert J. "Jack" Miller, Jr., on Saturday, November 14, 2009,
A resident of of Boyds, MD he was the beloved husband of Carey Kinsolving Miller; devoted father of John K. Miller and his wife, Donna, and William G. Miller. Also survived by five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Washington National Cathedral, Bethlehem Chapel, at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 30. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peters Episcopal Church, 20100 Fisher Avenue, Poolesville, MD 20837.

Albert F. Parks

Mr. Albert F. Parks, 80, of Dickerson, died on Friday November 13 at Shady Grove Hospital in Rockville.
He was the husband of the late Ona Parks.
Surviving are his children; Rita Parks of Dickerson, Fred Parks of NC, Mary Thompson of WV, one sister, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son and one daughter.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday November 16 at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road (Rt. 109), Barnesville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service.directions
Interment will follow in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations towards the funeral expenses.

Nora M. Greeve

Ms. Nora M. Greeve, 85, of Montgomery Village died on Monday November 9, 2009.
Services are private.

Frances S. Meem

Mrs. Frances "Fannie" S. Meem, 95, of Dickerson, passed away at Kline Hospice House, Thursday October 29, 2009. She was born March 7, 1914 in Weverton, MD to Harry P. and Ruth G. Spickler.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry C. Meem, Jr., a sister, Louise S. Kern, a brother, William P. Spickler and recently by her daughter-in-law, Margaret R. Meem.
Surviving are two sons, Harry C. Meem, III of Richmond, VA and Ross L. Meem and wife Teresa of Dickerson; a granddaughter, Lael M. Scott and husband Bert of New Windsor, a great grandson, Thomas L. Scott and step grandchildren, Rick, Jerry and Rhonda.
Frances attended school in Brunswick and graduated from Shepherd College in 1935. She taught elementary school in Montgomery County at Dickerson and Germantown. She was a life member of the Chevy Chase Chapter of the DAR, a member of the Shepherd University Alumni Association, KKI Sorority and the Maryland Retired School Personnel Association. Frances was a Charter Member and held several offices of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Upper Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Department.
For many years she served as music director at the Dickerson Methodist Church and enjoyed flowers, playing the piano, and watching the trains pass her home in Dickerson.
The family will receive friends on Sunday November 1 from 5-8 at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road (Rt. 109), Barnesville. .directions
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday November 2 at the Dickerson Methodist Church, 20341 Dickerson Church Road, Dickerson.directions
Interment will follow in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville.

Christine L. Dyker

Mrs. Christine L. Dyker, 83, of Dickerson, died on Sunday October 25, 2009 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
She was the wife of the late Charles Dyker.
Born on December 24, 1925 in Norwalk, CT, she was the daughter of the late John and Ada Oliver Lund.
Christine was a member of the Dalmatian Club of America.
Surviving are her children, Marcia Sprey of Buckeystown, Brian Dijker and Barbara Dijker both of California, Carolyn Dyker of Colorado, 5 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Services will be held at a later date.

Mark A. Smith

Mr. Mark A. Smith, 30, of Poolesville, died on Thursday October 22, 2009.
Born on March 17, 1979 he was the son of Edward and Terry Bennett.
Mark enjoyed watching the Washington Redskins and Baltimore Orioles.
Surviving besides his parents are two sisters and one brother, Kristen Bishop and husband Timothy of Dickerson, Carrie Bennett and Jonathan Bennett both of Poolesville, grandma, Shirley Smith of Dickerson, grandmothers, Patti Orndorff and Sallie Rappold both of Florida, aunts and uncles, Lee Smith Jr. of Poolesville, Brenda Testerman and husband Scotty of Dickerson, Wendy Smith of Dickerson, Bobby Bennett and wife Tanya of Catonsville, Nathan Bennett and wife Claudia of Catonsville, Jeff Hahn and wife Lynn of Stevensville, Stephanie Baxter and husband Ken of Bowie, cousins, Amy, Brittney, Lee, Travis, Todd, Lucas and Jenna.
He will also be remembered by special friends, Erik Butler, Alisa Odgen and Mrs. Laura Engler.
Mark was preceded in death by a grandfather, Lee Smith.
The family will receive friends on Friday October 23 from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road (Rt. 109), Barnesville. where funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday October 24.directions
Interment will follow in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mark's name to the Neuromuscular Disease Clinic, Georgetown University Hospital, PHC Building, 7th Floor, 3800 Reservoir Road, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20007.

Dale Arden Bates

Mr. Dale A. Bates, 74, of Poolesville, died on Friday October 9, 2009 at the Suburban Hospital in Bethesda.
He was the loving husband of Zannie E. Bates.
Born on July 17, 1935 in El Dorado, Arkansas he was the son of the late Jesse E. and Elizabeth F. Menke Bates.
Surviving besides his wife are his children; Chandra McCall, Dee Ann Patrick, Barry Bates, brothers and sisters; Jim Bates, Barbara McGuff, Herb Bates, Bobby Bates, Neal Bates, Marilyn Foord and six grandchildren; Erin and husband Patrick Lock, Sean Patrick, Katie Patrick, Bryan Patrick, Ian McCall and Mandy McCall.
Services are private.
Inurnment will be in Arlington cemetery at a later date.

Roland E. Kingsbury

Mr. Roland E. Kingsbury, 80, of Dickerson, died on Monday October 5, 2009, at Glade Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Walkersville, MD.
He was the loving husband of Peggy Horine Kingsbury.
Born on July 22, 1929 in Boyds, he was the son of the late Ambrose C. and Myrtle Walters Kingsbury.
He found his greatest joy in life through the love of his family, friends, farming, and in managing his herd of cattle.
Surviving besides his wife are his children Earle Arnold and wife Beverly of Frederick, Susan Ketron and husband Larry of Union Bridge, Roland E. Kingsbury, Jr. and wife Julie of Dickerson, one sister, Bernice Snyder of Walkersville, one granddaughter Angela Fenton and husband James, 2 great granddaughters, Abigail and Amelia Fenton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday October 8 at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road (Rt. 109), Barnesville.directions
The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the funeral.
Interment will follow in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville.

Robert D. Ladd

Mr. Robert Daniel Ladd, of Poolesville, MD, died peacefully on Thursday October 1, 2009. He was the beloved husband of 66 years to Carol B. Ladd. Father of - Robin Ladd McEntire, R. Daniel Ladd Jr., Merle Ladd Silverman, Charles B. Ladd and Phebe Ladd Mertes. Grandfather to 14 grandchildren and Great Grandfather to 5 and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Seneca Valley Pony Club, C/O J. Barnhard, 4840 Cordell Ave., Bethesda, MD 20814 to continue the Robert Ladd Award to the top senior and junior Boy Rider.. A memorial service will be held at 5 pm on Saturday November 7th at the Potomac Hunt Club, 21315 Peachtree Road, Dickerson, MD.directions

Mr. Richard R. Wagner of Boyds died on September 21, 2009.
Graveside services were private.

Genevieve K. O'Connell

Mrs. Genevieve Kingsbury O'Connell, 91 passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 15, 2009.
She was the loving wife of the late Daniel E. O'Connell, Sr.
Surviving are her beloved children and sister; Daniel E. O'Connell, Jr. (Kate), James R. O'Connell (Maureen), Robert J. O'Connell (Judy), William J. O'Connell (Patricia), Kenneth J. O'Connell (Susan), Maureen Doyle (Kevin), Lawrence J. O'Connell (Beth), sister; Doris Kingsbury Lee.
She was also survived by 19 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren whom she cherished.
She was preceded in death by two sisters; Louise K. Rice and Mary Ann K. Lillie.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday September 18 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 18230 Barnesville Road, Barnesville, MD.directions
Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Little Sister's of the Poor.
