MaryAnn Kephart
Mrs. MaryAnn Griffith Kephart of Poolesville, MD departed this life on May 29, 2009. Beloved wife for 67 years of George Overton Kephart, loving mother of George O. Kephart, Jr., Elizabeth Perry Kapsch and Ann-Frazer Brown all of Poolesville, devoted grandmother of Sarah Frazer Prestemon, Simon Alexander Brown, and Amanda Greenberry Brown, she is also survived by her devoted brother, William B. Griffith and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Born to Elizabeth Perry Griffith and Howard Griffith on January 15, 1921 in Silver Spring, MD, the youngest of eight children, she graduated in 1942 from University of Maryland where she was secretary of the Student Government Association and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She has lived since 1956 at Chiswell's Inheritance, Poolesville. She is a founder of Historic Medley District, Inc., past regent of the Erasmus Perry Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and also a member of Colonial Dames of America, St. Peter's Parish, Washington National Cathedral Altar Guild, and Monocacy Garden Club.
Friends may call at Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road, Barnesville, MD on Sunday, May 31, 2009 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Commemorative photographs to be scanned would be welcome. A service of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter's Parish, 20100 Whites Ferry Rd, Poolesville, MD on Monday, June 1, 2009 at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at Monocacy cemetery, 19801 West Hunter Road, Beallsville, MD. Rebecca "Becky" Ann Selby Brooks
Mrs. Rebecca "Becky" Brooks, 68, of Poolesville, died peacefully on Wednesday May 27 at her residence surrounded by family.
She was the loving wife of Robert L. Brooks, Sr.
Born on June 13, 1940 in Germantown, she was the daughter of the late Roy Linwood and Francis Louise Leaman Selby.
Becky worked many years at Selby's Market in Poolesville and was involved with the Upper Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Poolesville Memorial United Methodist Church Crafty Ladies and Gents.
Surviving besides her husband are her children, Robert L. Brooks, Jr. and wife Debbie, Jeffery W. Brooks and wife Alice, Darren J. Brooks, one brother, Roy L. Selby, Jr. and wife Betty Jean, 8 grandchildren, Michael Szalay-Brooks, Alexandra Szalay-Brooks, Christopher Szalay-Brooks, Robert Brooks, III, Ryan Brooks, Jared Brooks, Gabriella Brooks, Zachary Brooks, numerous nieces and nephews including Linwood, Michael Bruce and Lisa Selby.
She was preceded in death by one son, James M. Brooks.
Family will receive friends on Friday May 29th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road (Rt. 109), Barnesville.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Saturday May 30 at the Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church, 17230 Tom Fox Ave., Poolesville. Rev. Ken Fell from Memorial United Methodist Church will officiate.
Interment will follow in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville.

Helen I. Burdette
Mrs. Helen I. Burdette, 95, of Dickerson, died peacefully on Friday May 22, 2009 at the National Lutheran Home in Rockville.
She was the loving wife of the late John R. Burdette.
Born on December 23, 1913 in Dickerson, she was the daughter of the late Cora E. Mulligan.
During her active years Helen was involved with the Dickerson United Methodist Church and the Beallsville Senior's Group.
Surviving are her loving children, Russ Burdette and wife Carole of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, Otis and Tommy Burdette both of Hagerstown, 6 grandchildren, Chris, Jon, Juliann, Steve, Adam, Katie and 5 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Doug Burdette.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday May 27 at the Dickerson United Methodist Church, 20341 Dickerson Church Road, Dickerson, MD 20842 where the family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville.
James A. Kirby
Mr. James "Jim" A. Kirby, 72, of Poolesville, died on Saturday May 9, 2009.
He was the loving husband of Claire Kirby.
Born on August 27, 1936 in Silver Spring, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ruth Gaither Kirby.
Surviving besides his wife are his children, Douglas Gunster (step son) of Derwood, Charles Kirby of Frederick, Michael Kirby of Adamstown, one brother, Parker Kirby of Frederick, one sister, Elizabeth Musgrove of Florida, 8 grandchildren, numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and his beloved dog Chase.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Edward Kirby and one sister, Virginia Wilson.
A memorial service celebrating Jim's life will be held at 1 PM on Friday June 12th at the Poolesville Memorial Untied Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 17821 Elgin Road, Poolesville, MD 20837.

Roswitha "Rose" Wolfe
Mrs. Roswitha "Rose" Wolfe, 55, of Poolesville, MD died Saturday May 9, 2009.
She was the wife of James Wolfe.
Rose was born in Germany on December 20, 1953 to the late Otto and Anna Lustner.
Surviving besides her husband are her children, Jeffrey Wolfe and wife Jaimie of Barton, MD, Kevin Wolfe of Texas, Jessica Wolfe of Hagerstown, MD, one brother, Friedhelm Lustner of Germany and three grandchildren, Ashlee, Owen and Dylan.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday May 12 from 5-8pm at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road, Barnesville, MD where funeral services will be held on Wednesday May 13 at 11 am. A cremation will follow.

Florence A. Meritt
Mrs. Florence A. Meritt, a long time resident of Spencerport, NY passed away peacefully on May 7, 2009 at the home of her Daughter in Poolesville, MD at age 98. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years Edwin J. Meritt. She is survived by her daughter, Dolores Meritt Flynn and son-in-law Daniel J. Flynn Jr; grandchildren Martha Robertson (Scott), Daniel, Andrew (Sandra), and Timothy Flynn; great grandchildren Colleen and James Robertson; sister Thelma Durbin and extended family and friends.

Mr. Robert E. Munday, 46, of Poolesville, died on Friday May 1, 2009.
Born on July 2, 1962 he was the son of Walter and Alice Munday of Poolesville.
Surviving besides his parents are two sons, Jason and Timothy Munday both of Poolesville, and three brothers, Gregory Munday of Brunswick, Mark Munday and Ronald Buffington both of Poolesville.

Jasper "Jack" T. Lambert, Jr.
Mr. Jasper "Jack" Lambert, Jr., 55, of Mt. Airy, died suddenly on Wednesday April 29, 2009.
He was the husband of Laura A. Lambert.
Born on January 18, 1954 he was the son of Edith Lambert of Poolesville and the late Jasper T. Lambert, Sr.
Jack was a retired Captain and Station Manager at Station 30 for the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service.
Surviving besides his wife and mother are his children; Brian Lambert of Bethesda, Evan Lambert of Mt. Airy, one step son, Justin Hopkins of Mt. Airy; two sisters Sherri Farr and husband Donald of Poolesville, Catherine Angell and husband Robert of Brunswick and three nieces, Karen Monroe, Angela Best and Kimberly Farr.
The family will receive friends on Sunday May 3 from 4-7 at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road (Rt. 109), Barnesville, MD where funeral services will be held on Monday May 4 at 11 am.

Leonard Holcomb, Jr.
Mr. Leonard "Hawk" Holcomb Jr., 83, of Romney, W.Va., died Thursday, April 16, 2009, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 14, 1925, in Mill Creek, Okla., the son of the late Leonard and Mabel (Moss) Holcomb Sr.
Mr. Holcomb retired as senior fuel and ash foreman from Potomac Edison Power Plant in Dickerson after 39 years of service.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a watertender 2C SV6 on the USS Frement. He was a member of the VFW Wappocomo Post 1101 and the American Legion Hampshire Post 91, Romney. Mr. Holcomb was a lifetime member of the Masons' Columbia Lodge 285 A.F. & A.M., Arlington, Va.
Mr. Holcomb is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen Esther (Burgess) Holcomb; one son, Michael Lee Holcomb of Frederick; four daughters, Jo Ann Brooks of Shepherdstown, W.Va., Judy Mae Holcomb-Chavez of Arlington, Va., Toby Rae Rhodes of Frederick and Carolyn L. Counsellor of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; two brothers, James Holcomb of Reno, Nev., and Edgar Holcomb of Avon, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Joy and Kenny Brooks, Tracy Moore, Curtis and Chad Fisk, Katie, Kristen, Nikki and Josh Holcomb; four great-grandchildren, Dakota Harrison, Chance Moore, Cierra and Chase Brooks; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney.
Mr. Holcomb will be taken to Hilton Funeral Home, Barnesville, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 21. A Masonic service will take place at that time.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, at Hilton Funeral Home, Barnesville, with preacher Paul Rennick officiating.
Interment will be at Monocacy cemetery, Barnesville, with military graveside rites.
Arrangements are by Shaffer Funeral Home Inc., Romney, W.Va., and Hilton Funeral Home, Barnesville.
Shirley M. Grant
Ms. Shirley M. Grant, 69, of Frederick, died on Wednesday April 15, 2009 at her daughter's home in Millsboro, PA.
Born on March 23, 1940 in Silver Spring, she was the daughter of the late Ashby and Martha Grant.
Surviving are her children, Theresa Campbell and husband Randy of Millsboro, Cora Berndt of Falls Church, VA, William "Ernie" Shaffer of Frederick; one sister, Dorothy Nicholson; two brothers, Raymond and Robert Grant; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday April 17 from 7-9 pm at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road (Rt. 109), Barnesville, MD .
Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Saturday April 18 at the Boyds Presbyterian Church, 19901 White Ground Road, Boyds, MD.
Interment will be in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville.
Mary Shaw Williams
Mrs. Mary Shaw Williams, 91, of Poolesville, died on Tuesday April 7, 2009.
She was married
on February 25, 1941 to Rodger "Weets" Williams, Jr. of Poolesville who died in 1987.
Born on August 3, 1917 in Barnesville, she was the daughter of the late William Clifton and Emily Darby Brown.
Mrs. Williams graduated from Rockville High School in 1935 and attended Strayer College. She worked as a Patent Law Secretary in Washington, DC.
Mary Shaw was the beloved mother of Rodger Walter Williams, III (Gwen) of Frederick, William Clifton Williams (Bonnie) of Poolesville and Emily Jane Perry (William) of Herndon, VA.
She was the beloved grandmother of Rodger Walter, IV, David (Teri), Bradley and Amanda Williams, Patricia (Terry) Jacobs and Rodger Perry. Mrs. Williams was also survived by 7great grandchildren, numerous great-great grandchildren and one niece Sally Allnutt Hunter.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, William Griffith Perry.
The family would like to thank Melyssa Campbell, Pat Smith and Dorothy Fox for the care given their mother.
