Ora S. Harrison
CLAYTON, N.C. - Ora Sinclair Harrison of Clayton died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998 at her home. She was 89.
Born Oct. 25, 1908 on Tilghman Island, she was the daughter of Ernest Wilbert Sinclair and Esta Viola Haddaway Sinclair.
Mrs. Harrison is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna L. and William (Rusty) Parramore of Clayton; a grandson, Brent Parramore of Clayton; a great-granddaughter, Shannon Lee Parramore of Clayton; and a niece and nephew, Rosanne and Gary Royer of Easton.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday at St. Mark's United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Dr. Bruce Cooke is officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to Home Health and Hospice Care, Inc., P.O. Box 1524, 15 Noble St., Smithfield, N.C. 27577-9300.

Alvin S. Hopkins
HURLOCK - Alvin Sylvester Hopkins of Hurlock died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998 at her home. She was 75.
Born May 4, 1922, she was the daughter of the late James and Olia Hopkins.
He attended Dorchester County public schools and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was employed by the American Stores (Acme Market) cannery in Hurlock for 42 years. He became the first African American plant engineer in the Hurlock area. He later worked at the B & G Pickle Co. from which he retired. He also was self-employed as a TV repairman.
He married Elouise Thomas on March 21, 1942. Mrs. Hopkins is deceased.
He was a supporter of Hurlock United Methodist Church.
Mr. Hopkins is survived by two daughters, Olia Hopkins and Patricia Hopkins of Silver Spring; a son, Alvin Hopkins Jr. of Baltimore; and adopted daughter and son, Kay and Leedell McElvey of Hurlock; one adopted granddaughter; a foster granddaughter; and two foster grandsons. Four sisters, Normalee Hopkins, Virginia Conway, Clarabell Creighton, and Francine Stanley; and one brother, Russell Hopkins, are deceased.
Services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 7 at Hurlock United Methodist Church, Hurlock. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Petersburg cemetery.

Mildred M. Johnson
CAMBRIDGE - Mildred Marie Johnson of Cambridge died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998 at Dorchester General Hospital, Cambridge. She was 52.
Born Aug. 27, 1945 in Cambridge, she was the daughter of Mildred Camper Kennard of Wilmington, Del. and the late Norris Camper.
A 1963 graduate of Mace's Lane High School, she played an active role in the struggle for civil rights in Cambridge during the 1960s. She enjoyed playing the piano and flute.
She held several positions during her career, including 16 years of proofreading at Waverly Press, assistant manager for Alexander and Alexander of Baltimore and Developmental Studies at Salisbury State College. She volunteered for the community of St. Frances of Cambridge.
She was an active member of Refuge Temple Church of God, where she was Junior Usher co-president with her husband, Wesley Edward Johnson.
In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by her stepfather, Edsel Kennard; three sons, Troy Darnell Muhammad of Silver Spring, Dion Wesley Muhammad of Mitchellville, Md. and Corey Dockins of Silver Spring; a stepdaughter, Shanekia Johnson; four grandchildren; four stepbrothers and two stepsisters.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 6 at Refuge Temple Church of God.
Burial was at Christ Rock cemetery.

Myra Kelly
DENTON - Myra Kelly of Denton died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998 at Caroline Nursing Home. She was 91.
Born on Dec. 27, 1906 in Denton she was the daughter of the late Harry F. and Maud Chairs Anthony.
She helped operate Kelly's Trailer Sales and Trailer Park in New Castle, Del. with her husband John C. Kelly, they retired in 1963. Mr. Kelly died in 1985.
After moving to Florida from New Castle, Del., she worked as a seamstress at the Ruth Chagnon Shop until 1980. She returned to the local area in 1985.
She was a life member of Caesar Rodney Chapter No. 8, order of the Eastern Star, New Castle.
She is survived by one daughter, Jean L. Kelly of Greensboro; and a granddaughter, Carol Kelly of Easton.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7 in Concord cemetery, Denton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Methodist Church, 301 N. Main St., Federalsburg, Md. 21632.

William W. Quimby
ST. MICHAELS - William Wordsworth Quimby of St. Michaels died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998 at his home. He was 80.
Born on Feb. 1, 1918, in Skipton he was the son of the late George Parker and Helen Beaven Quimby. He was a graduate of Easton High School and entered into the National Guard after graduation.
Col. Quimby returned to this area upon his retirement from the U.S. Army in 1962, after serving over twenty-six years in the military service. During World War II he served with the 115th Infantry, 29th Division in the U.S. and through four campaigns in Europe, including the D-Day landing at Normandy Beach. Shortly after the Korean Conflict started he was assigned to Korea with the 21st Infantry, then to the 6th Tank Battalion and later was designated as Assistant Chief of Staff for Personnel, Headquarters, 24th Division; participating in five campaigns. Subsequently Col. Quimby was assigned to the U.S. Army Headquarters in Europe where he became Chief of Emergency and War Plans for the Personnel Division. During his Army career he was assigned to do numerous other duties at posts where he was largely responsible for personnel, personnel training, administration, and services. His decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters and the Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and Korean Presidential Unit Citation. Service medals include the American Defense Service Medal, American Theatre Service Medal, European African Middle East Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with one Silver Star, Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), Armed Forces Reserve Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation, Meritorious Service Unit Citation, six Overseas Bars - War Service; four World War II Battles and Campaigns- Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe Campaigns; five Korean Battles and Campaigns- United Nations Offensive, Chinese Communist Forces Intervention, First U.N. Counter-Offensive, Chinese Communist Forces. Spring Offensive, U.N. Summer/Fall Offensive Campaigns. He was also awarded the 20th Anniversary Normandy Liberation Medal from the French Government for recognition of his contribution.
He attended the University of Maryland to receive his nursing home administrator's license. He was administrator and co-owner of the Rio Vista Nursing Home, St. Michaels, for 15 years.
Col. Quimby was a charter member of the Talbot County YMCA, vice-president and president of the Talbot County Commission on Aging, vice-president Maryland Health Care Facilities Association, and secretary/treasurer of the Talbot County Sanitary Commission. He served on the Vestry of Trinity Episcopal Church, Fayetteville, New York, the Vestry Christ Episcopal Church, St. Michaels and as chairman of Finance Committee. Col. Quimby served as an usher in both Churches for 30 years. He was an associate charter member of E.E. Streets V.F.W., a former member of American Legion Post 70, a member of the 29th Division Association, Eastern Shore Post No. 88 in Cambridge and a charter member of the Battle of Normandy Foundation Caen, France.
Col. Quimby is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ruby St. Clair Quimby; two sons, Parker St. Clair Quimby, Elkton, and Thomas Mark Quimby, St. Michaels, one daughter, Katherine Quimby Cooper, St. Michaels; and 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Deceased are one sister, Helen Quimby Ireland; one brother, Alfred Parker Quimby; and one son, William Beaven Quimby.
Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7 at Christ Episcopal Church, St. Michaels.
Burial will held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9 at St. Paul's Church cemetery, Hillsboro.
Arrangements are by Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Easton.
Memorial donations may by be made to Regional Cancer Center, Easton, Md.

George F. Stabel Jr.
MILLINGTON - George Frederick Stabel Jr. of Millington died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998 at the LaSalle Health Care Center, Durham, N.C. He was 87.
Born in Cliffside, N.J., he was the son of the late George F. Stabel Sr. and Mabelle I. Spatz Stabel.
He received his formative education in New Jersey and later pursued his education in California. He was a graduate of the University of Southern California - Berkeley and later returned to New York where he graduated from Columbia University. He spent of most of his working career in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He had been a resident of Millington for the past 12 years.
Mr. Stabel was a World War II veteran, who served in the East Indies and New Guinea campaigns. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with two Battle Stars. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
All of his civilian career, he worked as a salesman in retail sales, selling a variety of goods for numerous companies. He was an accomplished tennis player and was a certified tennis official who officiated at many major tennis tournaments during the Jimmy Connors and John McEnroe eras.
Mr. Stabel is survived by two friends, Monica Simpler of Millington, who cared for his health needs for the past several years when in the Millington area, and Shirley Hatten of Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at Arlington National cemetery in Washington, D.C.
