Roger Lee Anderson

Roger L. Anderson, 83, of Gaithersburg, MD, died on Thursday August 30, 2012, after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Mary Lou Anderson, his beloved wife of almost 50 years who passed away in March 2000. Roger was also preceded in death by one son, Skip Anderson, in December 1981.
Roger served his country in the United States Navy in the early 1950's and was the City of Gaithersburg's Director of Finance for 25 years, retiring in 1996. He was a great influence in the City whose impact is still felt today.
A lifelong avid fisherman, Roger spent many summer weeks at his favorite fishing spots in Canada and around the local area with friends and family. He took pride in his annual crop of prize-winning tomatoes, and enjoyed playing host to numerous family holiday gatherings, pool parties and crab feasts. He was always up for a rousing game of Hearts, embraced the challenges of multiple crossword puzzles each day, and faithfully followed the ups and downs of the Baltimore Orioles and the Washington Redskins.
Surviving are his children: Suzanne Gonzalez (Xavier) of Homosassa, FL; Betsy Boddicker (Ed) of Frederick, MD; Bill Anderson of Poolesville, MD; Bob Anderson of Gaithersburg, MD; 8 grandchildren: Kristin Tayman (Gary); Brittany and Matthew Graham; Amanda, Andrew and Patrick Boddicker; Kelci and Lauren Anderson; and three great grandchildren: Jesse and Miranda Tayman and Kayla Anderson.
The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, September 4 from 5-8 pm at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109), Barnesville, MD, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 5 at 11 am.
Interment will follow in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville, MD.
In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to your local food bank. Roger was a very giving person who always looked out for those less fortunate.

Samuel S. Moore

Samuel S. Moore, 15, of Clarksburg.
The family will be receiving friends on Thursday August 23 from 5-8 P.M. at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109), Barnesville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M. on Friday August 24 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 18230 Barnesville Road, Barnesville.

Thelma Elizabeth (Harvey) Grubb

Mrs. Thelma H. Grubb, 88, of Frederick, formerly of Poolesville, passed peacefully on Thursday August 16, 2012 at Homewood at Crumland Farms.
She was the wife of Lloyd Grubb of 70 years.
Born on January 3, 1924 in Tuscarora, MD, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Laura Harvey.
Thelma graduated from Poolesville High School in 1941 and married Lloyd in 1942. She retired as a cafeteria manager after 26 years of service to local schools. Thelma was active with the Poolesville Memorial Church in the choir and Crafty Ladies, served with the Upper Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Departments Ladies Auxiliary. She loved baking, music and her grandchildren.
Surviving besides her husband are daughter Peggy Kinna and husband Larry, daughter-in-law Nancy Deadrick and husband Robert; grandchildren, David Kinna and wife Julie, Shannon Burke and husband Edward, Regina Grubb, Ray Lloyd Grubb III; great grandchildren, David Kinna, Jr., Shawn Kinna, Briana Kinna, Tyler Burke and Jenna Burke.
She was preceded in death by one son Ray Grubb, Jr., one sister, Evelyn Cockerill and one brother, John Harvey.
The family will be receiving friends on Sunday August 19 from 2-6 pm at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109), Barnesville, MD.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday August 20 at the Poolesville Memorial United Methodist Church, 17821 Elgin Road, Poolesville.
Interment will follow in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Thelma's name to the Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 358, Poolesville, MD, 20837 or the Upper Montgomery Volunteer Fire Department, 19801 Beallsville Rd., Beallsville, MD 20839.

Edwin Roberts Johnson, Sr.

Mr. Edwin Roberts Johnson, Sr., beloved husband of the late Pauline Parramore Scott Johnson, to whom he was married to for 61 years, died quietly at his home on Breeze Hill Farm in Comus, MD on August 12, 2012. He was born September 7, 1917 and was the son of the late Hazel Lee Roberts Johnson and Walter Perry Johnson, Hall of Fame pitcher for the Washington Senators.
Edwin graduated from Bethesda Chevy-Chase High School and the University of Maryland where he majored in agriculture. In his senior year at Maryland he was president of student government and of his class. He was also president of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and a member of Omicron Delta Kappa honor society. Edwin was all conference in basketball and played second base for the Terps baseball team.
After graduating he played baseball for the Yankees organization on farm teams in Norfolk, VA and Easton, MD. He worked on his dad's dairy farm in Germantown and raced thoroughbred horses in Maryland and Florida. Edwin also sold real estate and obtained his brokers license. In 1955 he purchased Breeze Hill Farm where he spent the rest of his life.
Edwin is survived by his sister Caroline Thomas, sons Ed, Jr. and David, daughters Elinor and Nancy, four grandsons, seven granddaughters and seven great grandchildren.
His final years were spent comfortably at Breeze Hill with his dogs, books and music, lovingly cared for by his daughter Nancy and her family.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday August 18 at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109), Barnesville, MD, followed by a celebration of his life for family and friends at Breeze Hill Farm.

Mary A. Shortall

Mary A. Shortall, 89, died on July 24, 2012, at Suburban Hospital. She had lived in Silver Spring, Md. since 1947 and moved to Byron House Assisted Living Center in Potomac in 2010. She was mother of JoAnn Spiller (Robert) of Penn Laird, VA, and William H. Shortall, Jr. (Robin) of Poolesville, MD; sister of Cornelia Goff of Carbondale, IL; grandmother of Christopher Spiller (Jennifer), Stephen Spiller, William Russell Shortall, Jessica Lea Shortall Tyler (Jason); great grandmother of Lily and Zachary Spiller. She was preceded in death by one brother, one sister and a granddaughter, Karen Spiller. She worked for FDA's Center for Drugs for 24 yrs. and retired in 1995. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 4 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 9200 Kentsdale Dr., Potomac, MD 20854. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Byron House, 9210 Kentsdale Dr., Potomac, MD 20854.

Charles E. Rinaldi

Mr. Charles E. Rinaldi, retired Assistant Chief of Police with Washington, DC and longtime resident of Rockville, MD and current resident of Adamstown, MD died peacefully with his family by his side at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Loving husband of JoAnn Rinaldi and devoted father of Victoria Alten and Elizabeth Burdick. He was preceded in death by his son Charles William Rinaldi and his brother, Joe Rinaldi. He is survived by three grandchildren, Olivia, Gabriella and Gregory and many other relatives and friends. There will be a gathering of friends and family at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd., Barnesville, MD 20838 on Monday, July 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 24 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 18230 Barnesville Rd., Barnesville, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's, Barnesville, MD or St. Joseph on Carrollton Manor Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven cemetery, Silver Spring, MD.

William "Bill" L. Sutphin

Mr. William "Bill" L. Sutphin, of Dickerson, MD died on July 9, 2012 at home with his wife, Bettie J. Sutphin by his side. Bill had just celebrated his 72nd birthday. He was born on July 6th, 1940 in Washington, DC.
Surviving along with his wife Bettie are his children; Donald Gary Sutphin and wife Justina of Albuquerque, NM, Deborah Ann Sander of Frederick; grandsons Aaron Sutphin of Panama City Beach, FL, Christopher H. Sander of Frederick.
Bill is also survived by his sisters; Mary Sutphin of Smith Mountain Lake, VA, Carol Poole of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Pat Marth of LaPlata, MD and one brother, Charles Sutphin of W. Brownsville, PA.
A Memorial Service in his honor will be held on Friday July 20 at 10:00 am at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109), Barnesville, MD.

James M. McCollum

Mr. James M. Mccollum, 23, of Poolesville died on July 6, 2012.
Memorial services will be held at 10 am on Saturday July 28 at the Memorial Untied Methodist Church, 17821 Elgin Road, Poolesville.

Mary O. Penrod

Mrs. Mary O. Penrod, 85, of Poolesville, died on July 3, 2012.
Services being handled by Sowers Funeral Home, Frostburg, MD.

Charles R. Bodmer "Dick"

Mr. Charles R. Bodmer "Dick", 69, of Ijamsville, died on Saturday June 23, 2012.
He was the loving husband of Mildred Louise Bodmer.
Born on December 18, 1942 in Frederick, Dick was the son of the late Charles W. and Virgie G. (nee Howser) Bodmer.
Dick was a member of the Tuscarora Gun Club, Drag raced at 75-80 in the early 70's, Glade Valley Golf League, UMCVFD Company 14 in early years and member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.
Mr. Bodmer and his wife were high school sweethearts. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. Dick was a hard working man of strong character, who was always willing to help anyone in need. He worked 30 years for National Naval Medical Center, 30 years with Safeway and also owned and operated Bodmer RV Service to keep busy into retirement. Early retirement allowed him and his wife more time with their wonderful friends at Drummer Boy Campground. He also loved golfing with family and friends. He has truly left his mark on this world and will be truly missed.
Surviving besides his wife Louise are his children, James "Dicky" Bodmer and wife Diane, Kerry Bodmer and wife Debbie, Rachel "Shelly" Beall and husband Scott, Cindy Bodmer and husband Mike Gue; one sister, Sue Moore and husband Earl; two brothers, Michael Bodmer and wife Amanda, Donald Bodmer. 8 grandchildren, Caitlan, Brittany, Brion, Joey, Dalton, Hailey, Abby and Konnor. Dick was also survived by his aunts and uncles, Edith and Bob Howser and Fran and Larry Miller. He was preceded in death by brother Wayne Bodmer.
The family will be receiving friends from 1-3 and 6-8 pm on Wednesday June 27 at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109), Barnesville, MD. where funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday June 28 at 11 am.
Interment will follow in Resthaven cemetery, Frederick.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 3425 Green Valley Road, Ijamsville, MD 21754 or a charity of your choice.

Homer P. Wingo

Mr. Homer P. Wingo "Bud", 81, of Inwood, WV, died on June 18, 2012.
He was the husband of the late Margaret Lucille Wingo.
Born on December 13, 1930 in Tazewell, VA he was the son of the late Homer and Nellie Davis Wingo.
Bud is survived by four daughters, Geneva Warf, Sandra Earp, Margaret Shepard, Liesa Kline; two brothers, Gordon and George Wingo; two sisters, Kathryn Landwehr, Shirley Christian; 8 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Bud was preceded in death by one brother, Clyde Wingo and two sisters, Mary Carter and Edna Mindte.
The family will be receiving friends from 6-8 pm on Thursday June 21 at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109), Barnesville, MD.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Friday June 22 at the Frederick Baptist Church, 5305 Mt. Zion Road, Frederick, MD 21703.
Interment will follow in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville, MD.

William E. Carter

Mr. William E. Carter, 84, of Damascus, died on June 14, 2012 at the Meritus Health Care Center in Hagerstown.
Born on March 8, 1928 in Poolesville, he was the son of the late James and Mary (Looney) Carter and husband of the late Virginia O. (Lambert) Carter.
Surviving are three sisters, Lucy Burress of Poolesville, Frances Huqueley and Norma Harlas both of Florida and many nieces and nephews.
Bill proudly served his country in the Untied States Army during Korean War.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Orval, Martin, James, Harrison and Henry Carter and five sisters, Cassaline Thompson, Cosba Powers, Gertrude Hurt, Georgia Atkins and Zora Britts.
The family will be receiving friends on Sunday June 17 from 5-7pm at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109), Barnesville where funeral services will be held on Monday June 18 at 1pm.
Interment will follow in Resthaven Cemetey, Frederick.
