Agnes "Jeannette" Watkins

(Agnes) Jeannette Walter Watkins of Clarksburg, MD, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2013 at her home.
She was born in Redland, MD, on January 2, 1930 and was the daughter of the late George C. and Ethel M. Zimmerman Walter. Jeannette married Wilbur D. Watkins, Jr. on June 23, 1948 at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Gaithersburg, MD.
Surviving besides her husband are 7 children: Joan Watkins (Gil), Kenneth Watkins (Kathy), Nancy Watkins, Sue Conner (Eben), Georgia Ray (Arby), Franklin Watkins, Sr. (Marie), Gerrianne Watkins; 27 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren, two sisters: Lorraine Sadtler (Phil), Dorothy Thompson. She is predeceased by 1grandchild: Nicholas Watkins, 1 great-grandchild: Johnathan Conway; three brothers: Norman Walter, George Walter, Franklin Walter; five sisters: Harriet Lifka, Charlotte Childs, Ethelene Ayton, Helen Offutt, Catherine Dorsey, Ethel May Walter (infant), Catherine Lavenia Walter (infant).
She graduated from Gaithersburg High School in 1948, worked as secretary for Watkins Cabinet Co., Inc. and was a member of the St. Mary's Sodality, Barnesville.
The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday May 14 from 5-8 pm at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109), Barnesville, MD .
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Wednesday May 15 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 18230 Barnesville Rd., Barnesville, MD
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers please send a donation to the Haiti Project at St. Mary's Church, P.O. Box 67, Barnesville, MD 20838.

Joanna "Joann" Marie Magaha Dorsey

Joann Marie Dorsey, 66, peacefully passed from this life on May 6, 2013 at home in Walkersville, MD with family members by her side. She was the wife of Larry W. Dorsey of 48 yrs.
Born in Martinsburg, WV on July 29, 1946, she was the eldest child of Archie T. F. Magaha and Virginia I. Braithwaite Magaha. Joann grew up in Barnesville, MD and graduated from Poolesville High School in Poolesville, MD. She started her career immediately following graduation. Worked several private businesses, ending her career at Washington Labatories, Ltd. as the office manager for 20 yrs, when she retired August 2012. She was one of the first employees of the company.
She loved gardening, shopping, reading, traveling, the beach, and antiquing. She had a talent for decorating her lovely homes and loved organizing parties and events. Most of all, she loved her family and friends and spending time with them. She was a very kind and loving person, always willing to lend a helping hand. She was a member of the Glade United Church of Christ.
She was a devoted mother to Kerina Belinda "Karri" Morningstar (Patrick) of Dickerson, MD, Kevin William Dorsey (Dawn) of Boyds, MD, Keith Edward Dorsey (Krista) of Boyds, MD, Kristopher Kyle Dorsey (Karen) of Adamstown, MD, Susan G. Francis (David) of Germantown, MD and a beloved "Nana Jo" to Kyle Charles and Kaysie Marie Morningstar, Samatha "Sammi" Jo, Cody William, and Jessica "Jessi" Anne Dorsey, Lexi Ann Dorsey, Katelyn Marie and Kristina Elizabeth Dorsey, Sydney Marie, Nick, and Toni Francis. She was a very special sister, best friend, and "partner in crime" to Connie Rough. She was a beloved Aunt to two very special nephews, Chadwick Franklin McDonald (Malinda) of Charles Town, WV and Dr. Mark Wesley McDonald of Tyler, TX. She also leaves behind a very special friend, Margaret "Peggy" Johnson of Dickerson, MD.
In addition to her husband, Larry Waters Dorsey, her children, grandchildren, and mother, she is survived by her two younger sisters, Connie Frances Rough (Ronald) of Walkersville, MD, and Donna Sue Elgin (Charles) of Adamstown, MD and numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her father, Archie T. F. Magaha and a brother, Franklin Henry Magaha.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 13 at Glade United Church of Christ, 21 Fulton Avenue, Walkersville, MD. Rev. Philip Curran and Rev. Randy Gilliam will officiate. The celebration of Joann's life will continue immediately after the memorial service at the Walkers Overlook, 8939 Woodsboro Pike, Walkersville, MD where lunch will be served.

Jane Zwemer Koeser

Jane Zwemer Koeser, 71, of Poolesville, MD on May 1, 2013.
She was the wife of Ross Koeser, mother of Kenneth Koeser of Poolesville, MD, Karen Shields of Albuquerque, NM, Douglas Koeser of Alexandria, VA, Gregory Koeser of Atlanta, GA, sister of Raymond Zwemer of CA, Suzanne Visser of AZ, Ted Zwemer of IL and grandmother of 5.
Jane loved being a mother and raised four beautiful children. She was a loving and giving person, who through her generosity made an impact on many lives.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm, on Saturday May 18, at the Memorial United Methodist Church, 17821 Elgin Road, Poolesville, MD 20837. A reception at the church will follow the service.

John F. Wolfrey

John F. Wolfrey, 81, of Poolesville, MD died on October 13, 2013.
He was the husband of Catherine E. Wolfrey of 58 years.
Born on March 29, 1932, he was the son of the late Bert and Leonia Wolfrey.
John retired from the Montgomery County Board of Education, where he was a painter and crew chief and supervised the painting of many schools throughout the county. He enjoyed the friendship of all his fellow workers. John was known as "Mr. Fixit". He enjoyed plumbing, electrical, carpentry, auto repair and lawn maintenance. He loved sports (Redskins and Orioles), animals (his dogs Vaky and Shadie and cat Oliver) and music. John was a self-taught musician and could play the guitar, organ and harmonica.
John also served his country in the United States Army in the Anti-Aircraft Division.
Surviving besides his wife is his sister-in-law, Della Snodgrass, nieces and nephews; Nancy Elkins, Billy Wolfrey, Alysha and Sabrina Wolfrey, Bill McDonald, Marsha Meadows and Samatha McDonald.
John was preceded in death by four brothers, Reuben, Phillip, William and Elberton; three nephews, Robert (Bobby), Steve and David Wolfrey and two brother-in-laws, Marshall Woodard and Bobby Snodgrass.
The family will be receiving friends on Thursday October 17 from 5-8 PM at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109), Barnesville, MD .
Interment will be private in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville, MD.

Elizabeth "Boo" D. Davis

Anne Elizabeth (Boo) Daniel Painter Davis, wife of John W. Davis, Dickerson, MD, died on Monday, September 30th at Homewood Retirement Community in Frederick. Born October 8th, 1924, she was the daughter of William and Elsie Lee Daniel, mother of Garland Edward Painter, Jr., who predeceased her in 2000, and William Daniel Painter of Laurel, MD, mother-in-law of Jacqueline Painter and Kathleen Constable, grandmother of Susan Shealer, Danielle Painter and John Constable and great-grandmother of Madelyn Shealer and Grant Shealer.
She was also predeceased by brothers William and Mansfield Daniel and first husband Garland Edward Painter.
Boo graduated from Poolesville High School in 1942. She attended secretarial night classes sponsored by the Montgomery County Board of Education, worked in various offices at the Rockville courthouse and at Farmers' Banking and Trust Co., also in Rockville. Later, she went back to Poolesville High, where she retired as secretary in 1981.
Boo had been active with the American Field Service, WMC UFD auxiliary, Historic Medley District, Daniel/Jeffers Auxiliary, and St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Poolesville. She volunteered in the gift shops at Shady Grove Hospital and Asbury Retirement and Nursing Home for many years.
Visitation with the family will be held at Hilton's Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109), Barnesville, MD from 5-8PM on Thursday, October 3rd. Interment will be private.
A memorial celebration of Boo's life will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 20100 Fisher Ave. Poolesville, MD, on Saturday, October 19th at 11AM, reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The St. Peter's Episcopal Church Building Fund, PO Box 387, Poolesville, MD 20837 or to a charity of your choice.

Marwood "Woody" F. Rupp

Marwood "Woody" F. Rupp passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 23rd at his home in Clarksburg, Maryland. He was a devoted husband, loving father, supportive grandfather and loyal friend.
He was born on November 23, 1927 in Saginaw, Michigan, Woody was the son of the late Martin and Veronica (Reithmeier) Rupp. He served in the Navy during WWII, and earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and a graduate degree from the University of Minnesota. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) fraternity. In his forty year career as a transportation engineer and urban planner, he acted as city manager for several towns, created road and city development projects throughout the United States and the Middle and Far East, managed the Northeast corridor rail improvement project, and helped engineer the Washington Metro system. His work took him all over the world and he lived for over two years in Tripoli, Libya. He retired as a Vice President at De Leuw Cather, which became TRW.
For the last twenty years, he was a dedicated volunteer at the Monocacy Lions Club and Damascus American Legion Post 171, and enjoyed gardening and spending time with family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Marjorie Rupp; his four daughters, Tammy Rupp, Terrill Rupp Doyle and husband Mike, Toni McDermott and husband Geoffrey, Tracy Helwig and husband Dan; six grandchildren, Christopher McDermott and wife Georgia, Daniel McDermott, Patrick Doyle, John Doyle, Alyx Snyder, Derek Helwig and wife Casey; and two great-grandchildren. Woody was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Ralph Rupp.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109) in Barnesville, Maryland at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 28th, 2013.

Roy L. Selby, Jr.

Roy Linwood Selby, Jr., 75, of Beallsville, MD, after a long battle with cancer, died Saturday, September 14, 2013, surrounded and loved by his family, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was married to Betty Jean Wynne Selby for 54 years.
Born in Germantown, MD, September 6, 1938, he was the son of the late Roy Linwood Selby, Sr. and Frances Leaman Selby. He was preceded in death by his sister, Rebecca (Becky) Selby Brooks, and his nephew, James (Jody) M. Brooks.
Roy graduated from Poolesville High School in 1956 and married his high school sweetheart, Betty Jean, in 1959. He worked along with his parents in the family-owned business, Selby's Market, founded in 1946. He continued the tradition with his children until it's closing in January 2012. After raising their children in Poolesville, MD, they moved to Beallsville, MD in 1987.
He joined the Upper Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Department at age 18, serving as a volunteer. He was elected to Treasurer of the Corporation and served for many years, becoming a life member. He served as Commissioner for the Town of Poolesville from 1964-1976. As a member of the Mid- Atlantic Food Dealers' Association, he held several offices, working up the ladder until finally serving as Chairman in 1983. He was a member of the Monocacy Lions Club, joining in 1984 and serving as King Lion in 1988-89, receiving the highly honored Melvin Jones Fellow Award in 2001.
Aside from the time dedicated to his life as a grocer, his free time was filled by family and friends. Although not one to want a birthday party, he loved having his grandchildren, surrounding him and on his knees, helping to blow out his candles. Many life-long friendships were built and maintained through his love of golf that he shared with his wife. They were avid golfers at Holly Hills Country Club in Ijamsville, MD.
Surviving besides his wife are his children, Roy (Lin) L. Selby, III and wife, Leslie, Michael R. Selby and wife, Corrine, Bruce E. Selby and wife, Amy, and Lisa W. Selby; seven grandchildren, Darcy Matacio, Courtney Mora (Andy), Roy (Dru) Selby, IV, Charlotte Selby, Addison Selby, Aubrey Selby, and Sean Selby; and numerous nephews and a niece.
The family will receive friends, where he also attended church, from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 19, at Poolesville Memorial United Methodist Church, 17821 Elgin Rd, Poolesville, MD where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 20.
Internment will follow in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville.

Thomas G. Magee

Thomas George Magee (88) died peacefully on September 14, 2013 at Kline Hospice House in Mount Airy, Maryland. He was born September 27, 1924 in St. Louis, Missouri to Adlai Stevenson and Elizabeth (Hennessy) Magee. Tom grew up in Bethesda, Maryland; attended St. Ann's Academy in Washington, DC; and graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. Tom is an alumnus of the United States Merchant Marine Academy and attended Georgetown University. He served in the Merchant Marines in WWII and as a U.S. Naval Officer during the Korean War. After the war, Tom worked primarily in real estate and property management, retiring from the Brawner Company.
Tom will be remembered as a natural raconteur with a sharp wit and sense of humor. He loved sailing and the outdoors and was an early advocate for wildlife and the environment. All who knew him will remember him for his loyalty and generosity.
Over the years Tom participated in the Isaak Walton League of America and in the restoration of the Project Liberty Ship S. S. John W. Brown. He founded the Purple Martin Society of Frederick Maryland.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Jane Roberts (Frier) Magee, and seven children: Henly Magee, Tricia [Bruce] Werts, Mary Lynn [Victor] Wulc, Carol [Robert] Mull, Joseph [Karen] Magee, Sarah [Joseph] Andrews and Elizabeth [Thomas] Montebell; 19 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. In addition, he leaves behind his sister Elizabeth Cloutier, brother Walter Magee, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Mary's Church, 18230 Barnesville Road, Barnesville, Maryland this Friday September 20, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Internment at Arlington National cemetery will take place at a later date.

Dorothy E. Davidson

Dorothy E. Davidson, 87, of Dickerson, MD, passed away suddenly on September 13, 2013 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, MD.
She was the wife of the late John E. Davidson.
Born on February 7, 1926 in Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Jennie (Anderson) Stephenson.
Surviving are her two sons, Ricky Davidson of Monrovia, MD, Roy Davidson of Dickerson; five brothers, William, Robert "Buck", Harry, James Edward and Howard Fowler; two sisters, Virginia Gravely, Martha Reed; eight grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by one son, John E. Davidson, Jr. and one daughter, Patricia Lenhart.
The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday September 17 from 6-8 pm at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109), Barnesville, MD), where funeral services will be held on Wednesday September 18 at 1 pm.
Interment will follow in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville, MD.
