Paul Eugene Mayor, 70, of Lexington Park, MD, died on Tuesday, January 21, 2003 at Southern Maryland Hospital Center in Clinton, MD.Born on January 9, 1933 in St. Mary’s City, MD, he was the son of the late Joseph Leonard Mayor, Sr. and Myrtle Elizabeth Ridgell Mayor. Mr. Mayor served his country in the US Army from 1952 until 1954. He worked for Schieble Construction Company for 25 years, retiring in1998. At the time of his death, he was working for Marrick Construction Company as a Superintendent and Consultant.Mr. Mayor is survived by his wife Phyllis May Hart Mayor, whom he married on February 16, 1957 at Holy Face Catholic Church in Great Mills, MD, two children, Kellie M. Hall of Hollywood, MD and Marcie M. Roan of Lusby, MD, three grandchildren, three sisters, Juliana Knott of Mechanicsville, MD, Viola Mayor of California, MD and Myrtle McWilliams of Bushwood, MD, step-mother, Joyce Mayor of Great Mills, MD and eight step brothers and sisters; Joe, Carolyn, Shirley, Mary Pat, Brennan, Joan, Brenda and Janet In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers, Charles, Joseph, Jimmy, Robert, Warren, Richard and Lenny, Jr.The family will receive friends on Friday, January 24, 2003 from 5; 00 p.m. until 8; 00 p.m. at Holy Face Catholic Church in Great Mills, MD. Prayers will be recited at 7; 00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 25, 2003 at 10; 30 a.m. at Holy Face. The Reverend Kevin O’Reilly will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.Serving as pallbearers will be J.D. Blackwell, Darrell Blackwell, Lionel Blackwell, Joe Stone, Ryan Hall and Shane Hall.Memorial contributions may be made to the Lexington Park Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Christine Combs Echols, 92, of Valley Lee, died January 19, 2003 at the First Quality Care, Waldorf. She was a homemaker. She attended St. Mary's Seminary and Washington School for Secretaries. She was an alumnus of St. Mary's College. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and St. Mary's Historical Society. She was active in many bridge clubs. She loved to have parties at Blake Creek, loved to have a garden, loved to travel and being with her family. Born April 9, 1910, in St. Mary's County, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Combs and the late Rose Combs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Garyton C. Echols Sr.; and daughter-in-law, Carol Ann Echols. She is survived by a son, Garyton C. Echols Jr. of La Plata; grandchildren, Mary C. Lindamood, Nancy Murrah, Barbara Moffatt, Tessa Echols, Garyton C. Echols, III and David C. Echols; great-grandchildren, Daniel Lindamood Jr., Katelin Lindamood, Patrick Clark, Carol Murrah, James Murrah, Drake Moffatt, Avery Echols, Garyton Echols IV, Christian Echols, Emily Echols and Madison Echols. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time for the service at noon January 22 at St. George's Catholic Church, Valley Lee. The Rev. Charles Muzzey will officiate. Burial will take place at the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Charles County, P.O. 1703, La Plata, Md. 20646. Arrangements are being handled by Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, La Plata.

Marguerite Mary Daras Spruce, 71
Marguerite Mary Daras Spruce, 71 of Palm Bay Florida died on Sunday, January 13, 2003 in Holmes Regional Medical Center, Melbourne, Florida.Born on April 26, 1931 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late James and Anna Mary Thomas Daras. She was a homemaker all her life. She loved playing bingo and cards.She is survived by her husband, Wayne Spruce, daughters, Constance R. Merendino, Janice L. Carswell, sons, Harry J., Lewis L., Jr., James M., and John W. Wheeler, siblings, James and John Daras, (Skippy) Golden, and (Booties) Trigger. Also survived by fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.Family will be received today, Friday, January 17, 2003 from 2-4 & 6-8PM in The Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A. where a Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2003 at 10AM. Reverend Hugh L. Canter will be officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens. Arrangements provided by Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, Charlotte Hall, MD.

Dorothy Ann Saunders, 76
Dorothy Ann Saunders, 76, of Arlington, Virginia died Friday, November 15, 2002 at St. Mary’s Nursing Center in Leonardtown, Maryland.
Born on November 22, 1926 in Washington, DC to the late Helen Loreta Cooper Saunders and Raymond Saunders.
During her life, Dorothy Ann was an active member in the Southern Baptist Church attending the Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church and the "old" Kendall Baptist Church in Southwest Washington, DC. As a child, she sang in the choir and would recall wonderful memories of plays and Christmas Pageants. She was an active member of the Eastern Star. After thirty years, she retired from the Federal Government, Department of Agriculture in Washington, DC. She loved to read good books and listen to music.
In addition to her parents, sisters Elizabeth Kenna and Margaret Zaccanelli, brothers Melvin and David Saunders, precede Dorothy Ann in death.
She is the sister of William Saunders of Waldorf, MD, Vera Mills of Burtonsville, MD, and John Saunders, of Gaithersburg, MD, Robert Saunders of Georgia and Mabel Bundy of North Carolina. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive her.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, November 17, 2002 from 2PM to 6PM at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A. 30195 Three Notch Road Charlotte Hall, Maryland where Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 18, 2002 at 10AM.
Interment Fort Lincoln cemetery, Brentwood, Maryland.

George Leo Dyson, Sr., 56
George Leo Dyson, Sr., 56, of Mechanicsville, MD died on Monday, November 11, 2002 at the Washington Hospital Center, Washington, DC.
Born on April 7, 1946 in Helen, MD the son of the late Francis Halsey Green and Mary Elizabeth Dyson.
Mr. Dyson was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Morganza, MD and a life long resident of St. Mary’s County.
A son, George Leo Dyson, Jr. of Mechanicsville, MD, two sisters, Barbara Dyson of Baltimore, MD and Gloria Dyson of Mechanicsville, MD, two brothers, John Dyson and William Dyson both of Mechanicsville, MD, survives him. One grand child also survives. His wife Agnes Loretta Chase Dyson preceded him in death on June 11, 1999.
Friends may call on Saturday, November 16, 2002 from 9; 30 am to 10; 30 am, at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 29119 Point Lookout Road, Morganza, MD. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11; 00 am, with the Reverend Neal Ward as the celebrant. Interment will follow at the Queen of Peace cemetery, Helen, MD.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1032, Lexington Park, MD 20653.

James Lawrence Peacock, Sr. 57
James Lawrence Peacock, Sr. 57, of Lexington Park, MD died on November 12, 2002 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Leonardtown, MD.
Born on February 25, 1945 in Pearson, MD son of the late James E. and Myrtle Saunders Peacock.
Mr. Peacock is survived by his wife Anita Louise Walton Peacock whom he married on May 27, 1967 in Upper Marlboro, MD, two daughters, Christine Marie Peacock, of Lexington Park, MD and Anita Louise Peacock, Barstow, MD, two sons, James Lawrence Peacock, Jr., of California, MD and Robert Delaney Peacock, of Dunkirk, MD. 15 grandchildren also survive. In addition to his parents, his three siblings preceded him in death.
James left this earth a proud man, a dedicated husband, and a loving father and grandfather. He will be remembered in our hearts forever.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 15, 2002 at 11; 00 am at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650.The Reverend David Sparks, LTC-USAFR of the Hollywood Church of the Nazarene will officiate. Interment will be private.

Earl Greenfield
Earl Greenfield of Brandywine, MD, died at Southern Maryland Hospital Center in Clinton, MD. He was 75 years old.
Born August 7, 1927 in Brandywine, Maryland to the late Mabel Spicer and James Paul Greenfield.
Mr. Greenfield was a farmer who enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Greenfield was preceded in death by his brother, William Paul Greenfield.
He is survived by his sisters, Ruby Dobson, Lois Becker, Elsie Aker and Lorraine "Tina" Burns; brother Donald F. Greenfield; companion, Bernice "Nicie" Hill; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Friends received on Wednesday, November 13, 2002 from 2-4 & 6-8PM at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A. 30195 Three Notch Road Charlotte Hall, MD where Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2002. The Reverend Hugh L. Canter to officiate. Interment Trinity Memorial Gardens.

Nannie Marie Barnes, 97
Nannie Marie Barnes, 97, of Scotland, MD, died on Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at Bayside Care Center in Lexington Park, MD.
Born on December 22, 1904 in Scotland, MD, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Nannie Smith Gough. Mrs. Barnes was a cook at Bean's Fishing Marina and Claton's Marina both located in Ridge, MD.
A son, Dennis Langley of Lexington Park, MD and a step-son, Bernard Barnes, and twenty-seven grandchildren survive Mrs. Barnes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Walter Langley and John Robinson Barnes, two sisters, Mary Bernadette Hewlett, Sarah Elizabeth Gough, and a brother, Joseph Claver Smith.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 11, 2002 from 9; 00 a.m. until 11; 00 a.m. at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in St. Inigoes, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11; 00 a.m. The Reverend Raymond Moore of St. Joseph's Church, Landover, MD will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mary Rita Carroll Owens, 83
Mary Rita Carroll Owens, 83 of Dameron, MD died on November 6, 2002 at her residence.
Born on April 21, 1919 in St. James, MD the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Magdalen Peacock Carroll.
She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, in Ridge, MD, and was a homemaker.
In 1940 she married Thomas Wilfred Owens at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, he preceded her in death on March 6, 1999.
Mrs. Owens is survived by five sons, Robert W. Owens of St. Mary’s City, MD John W. Owens of St. Inigoes, MD, Joseph W. Owens of St. Inigoes, MD, Ralph W. Owens of Dameron, MD, and Gregory W. Owens of St. Mary’s City, MD, two sisters, Marguerite Carroll Rhodes, of Lexington Park, MD and Cecilia Carroll Dunbar, of Dameron, MD. 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son, Glenn W. Owens, one sister, Sister Frances Raphael, four brothers, James (Jimmy) Carroll, Joseph Carroll, Lloyd Carroll, and Bernard (Pete) Carroll.
A mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, November 9, 2002 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. The Reverend Damian Shadwell was the celebrant. Pallbearers for Mrs. Owens were Michael, Steven, Jerry, Tommy, Joe and Brian Owens.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary’s P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650.

Joseph Francis Kelly, 79
Joseph Francis Kelly, 79, of Lexington Park, MD died on November 6, 2002 at the St. Mary’s Nursing Center, Leonardtown, MD.
Born on May 17, 1923 in Hollywood, MD the son of the late Johnson and Mary Sophie Dorsey Kelly.
Joseph worked in Lexington Park, MD for 32 years as a Custodial Engineer for the Park and Plaza Theaters. He was a kind; quiet and loving person who would do whatever he could for anyone. He loved children, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom he helped raise and baby-sit.
Mr. Kelly is survived by his wife Mary Elizabeth Kelly, his children, Katherine Louise Thomas, Joseph Francis Kelly Jr., Mary Elizabeth Briscoe, James Ralph Kelly, James Edward Kelly, Joseph Richard Kelly, Beverley Yvonne Marable, Patricia Denise Scott and Judy Marie Holt, siblings, Mary Kelly, Marie Kelly, Elizabeth Kelly and Johnson Kelly. 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Friends called and services were held Saturday November 9 at the Holy Face Catholic Church, Great Mills.. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10; 30 am, with the Reverend Kevin O’Reilly as the celebrant. Lily Ann Thomas-Corbin
Lily Ann Thomas-Corbin, of Prince Frederick, MD, died on November 2, 2002 at Calvert Memorial Hospital, Prince Frederick, MD.
She was born on August 20, 2002, the infant daughter of Rickey Eugene Corbin, of Hollywood, MD and Christina Lynn Thomas of Prince Frederick, MD.
In addition to her parents Lily is survived by two brothers, Johnathan R. and Andrew Michael Thomas of Weed, CA, Paternal grandparents, Ronnie and Carole Corbin of Hollywood, MD, maternal step-grandfather and grandmother William and Anna Grimes of Lexington Park, MD and maternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Roy and Penny Andrukat, Oak Harbor, Washington, maternal great-grandparents, Robert and Annice Crandall, of Ludenburg, VA, Richard and Patricia Andrukat, of Cleveland, OH, and Helen Grimes of Jacksonville, FL, maternal great great-grandmother Lincy Miller of Sun City, FL and an uncle Dennis Andrukat of Lexington Park, MD. Her paternal great-grandmother Lois Young preceded her in death.. A funeral service was held on Friday, November 8 with the Pastor Stephen Updegrave officiating. Interment followed at the Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown.
In lieu of flowers the family request that stuffed animals and toys to be given, so that they may be donated to the Safe Harbor Domestic Violence Protection House and to the siblings of children that have died of SIDS.

Katherine Clagett Davis, 60
Katherine Clagett Davis, 60, of La Plata died Nov. 4, 2002, at her home. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Textiles from The University of Maryland. Owner of Kay's Designs, and a fashion consultant for Doncaster clothing. She managed the women's department at P.S. Bolwing's for more than 35 years. She was a member of the Charles County Garden Club, Civista Foundations, Treasurer, and Honorary chair for 2003 Mardi Gras Ball for Civista Foundation; she was involved in many other civic organizations. She was also a member of the Christ Church, Port Tobacco Parish. Born Aug. 23, 1942 in Baltimore. She was the daughter of Allan Page Clagett and the late Katherine Lilly Mitchell Clagett. In addition to her father she is survived by her daughters, Laurie Davis Taylor, and Christa Davis Kuhl, both of La Plata; sons-in-law, Andrew Taylor and Jeffrey Kuhl also of La Plata. The Rev. Joseph Trigg officiated. Burial was at Mt. Rest cemetery, La Plata. Pallbearers were Van Mitchell, John Mitchell, Casey Mitchell, Skip Mudd, Steuart Bowling, and Norman Stakhouse. Memorial contributions may be made to Civista Health Foundation, 8 Kent Ave. Suite # 303, P.O. Box 1701 La Plata, MD 20646.

Mark Steven Hilmer
Mark Steven Hilmer of Lusby, Maryland, died November 3, 2002 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, MD. He was 44 years old.
Born February 26, 1958 at Washington, DC to Grit Blumenthal And Carroll A. Hilmer. Mr. Hilmer was employed as a Mechanic with Total Comfort Heating and Air Conditioning in Dunkirk, MD. Mr. Hilmer enjoyed fishing, boating and hanging with his friends.
In addition to his parents, his son Jason Wayne Hilmer and his sister Lorie Lynn Sommerkamp survive Mr. Hilmer..

Mary Lee Miguel, 43, of Waldorf died Nov. 5, 2002, at Southern Maryland Hospital Center, Clinton. Moving from Cheyenne, Wyoming, she lived here since 1997. She was a sales associate with the Department of Defense. She was a former Girl Scout leader and a member of Youth Booster Club at Minot Air Force Base. She loved gardening, reading, cooking, and being part of her children's activities as they grew up. She was born March 17, 1959, in England. She is survived by her husband, Ernest John Miguel Jr., of Waldorf; mother, Mary Leisner; stepfather, Haram Leisner; children Ernest Miguel III and Elizabeth Ann Miguel, both of Waldorf; brother, Leonard Dotson of California; sisters, Vivian Brown of South Carolina and Julie Yeomans of Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews. Burial was private. Arrangements were by Arehart-Echols Funeral Home.

On November 11, 2002 of Clinton, Maryland the devoted wife of Ora B. Watson; Beloved mother of David (Vickie) and Robert (Carla) LaPin and Daniel Watson; loving daughter of Adeline M. and the late Hartley L. Wheeler, Nana of Robert, Jessica, Christopher and Amanda; sister of Lawrence Wheeler. Funeral service and interment were held at Maryland Veterans cemetery, Cheltenham.
