Born on April 23, 1921 in Ridge, Maryland, he was the son of the late James Irving and Kathryn Fredrika Mayor Wood. Mr. Wood was a bus driver.
Mr. Wood is survived by sisters and brothers; Lorraine Polly Bean of Callaway, Maryland, Irvanette W. Hall of Park Hall, Maryland, Eileen Hall of Great Mills, Maryland, Louise Combs of California, Maryland, Charles D. Wood, Jr. of St. Mary’s City, Maryland, and Clyde Hayden of Lexington Park, Maryland.
Family received friends on Sunday, December 10, 2000 from 2 - 6 p.m. at Holy Face Catholic Church, 20476 Point Lookout Road, Great Mills, Maryland 20634 with prayers recited at 4; 00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, December 11, 2000 at 11; 00 a.m. also at the church. The Reverend Kevin P. O’Reilly will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Serving as Pallbearers will be; Michael Bean, Adrian Hall, Jr., Damian Hall, Jim Wood, Charles D. Wood, III, and John Wood.
Memorial contributions may be made to; Hospice of St. Mary’s, P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, Maryland 20650 and/or any rescue squad of your choice.

Mary Thelma Wathen
Mary Thelma Wathen, 88, of Leonardtown, Maryland, died on Tuesday, December 5, 2000 at St. Mary’s Nursing Center in Leonardtown, Maryland.
Born on April 20, 1912 in Compton, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Parren and Amanda Dury Crain. Ms. Wathen was a life long resident of St. Mary’s County. She was a homemaker. From 1959 until 1980, she worked as a cashier for Duke’s restaurant in Leonardtown, Maryland. She enjoyed playing cards especially pitch.
Ms. Wathen is survived by a daughter; Judith "Judy" W. DiGiovanni of Bel Alton, Maryland, two sons; Theodore "Teddy" Richard Wathen and Kenneth "Kenny" Lawrence Wathen, a sister; Leila Rogers, all of Leonardtown, Maryland, five grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Ms. Wathen was predeceased by her husband; John Richard Wathen, whom she married on December 7, 1933 in Rockville, Maryland.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, December 8, 2000 from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, Maryland with prayers recited at 6; 30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 9, 2000 at 10; 00 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Leonardtown, Maryland. The Reverend Rory Conley will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Serving as Pallbearers will be; William Flaherty, Joseph Johnson, Chet Wathen, Mitch Wathen, John Walter Norris, and Francis Tippett.

Manuela Clavijo Sanjuan
Manuela Clavijo Sanjuan, 95, of Lexington Park, Maryland, died on Tuesday, December 05, 2000 at her residence.
Born on March 27, 1905 in Cadiz, Spain to the late Jose Clavijo and Marie Sanjuan Montero Gonzalez. Ms. Sanjuan was a homemaker.
Ms. Sanjuan is survived by a daughter; Adelaida Perez Williams of Lexington Park, Maryland, two grandchildren; Gisele P. Wright of Norman, Oklahoma, and Frank P. Williams of Lexington Park, Maryland, a great grandchild; Christopher N. Wright. She is predeceased by her husband; Jose Perez Plaza.
All services will be private.

Steven Kenneth Matthews-Bull
Steven Kenneth Matthews-Bull, 46, of Mechanicsville, Maryland, died at St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, Maryland on Tuesday, December 5, 2000.
Born on October 8, 1954 in Jamestown, New York, to Paul Roy and Nancy Latricia Erhart Bull of Busti, New York Mr. Bull moved to St. Mary’s County from Hatfield, Pennsylvania. He was a consultant for the U.S. Government for 19 years, he served in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Bull is survived by his wife Cheryl Jayne Matthews-Bull, they were married October 26, 1985 in Oaklyn, New Jersey. Four sons, Glenn Austin Bull and Gregory Robert Bull both of Sumpter, South Carolina, Steven Jake Matthews-Bull and Kenneth Ryan Matthews-Bull both of Mechanicsville, Maryland. Two brothers Walter L. Bull of Topsham, Maine and John Bull of Columbine, Colorado, and one sister Katherine A. Bull of Jamestown, New York.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2000 at 2; 00 p.m. at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, Maryland, with Chaplain Joseph Dobson officiating. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary’s, Inc., P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, Maryland 20650. Arrangements were provided by the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., Leonardtown, Maryland.

Margaret Floyd Swain
Margaret Floyd Swain, 85, of El Paso, Texas, passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2000 at William Boamount Army Hospital of Heart Failure after a long illness.
Born on April 28, 1915 in Leonardtown, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Erick and Eleanor Miller Floyd.
Mrs. Swain is survived by her husband; James Wilton Swain of El Paso, Texas, two daughters; Julia Allen of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Lyn DeLa Vega of El Paso, Texas, a son; Erick Swain of Virginia Beach, Virginia, two sisters; Mary Elizabeth Bogie of Leonardtown, Maryland, Veronica Nash of Arlington, Virginia, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son; James Gregory Swain of El Paso, Texas.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2000 at 9; 30 a.m. at Our Lady’s Catholic Church, Medley’s Neck, 41348 Medley’s Neck Road. Leonardtown, Maryland. The Reverend Robert Kosty will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to; Our Lady’s Church, P.O. Box 111, Leonardtown, Maryland 20650.

Diane Marie Velasquez-Riordan
Diane Marie Velasquez-Riordan, 48, of St. Mary’s City, Maryland, died at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC on Saturday, December 2, 2000.
Born on January 14, 1952 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Jesse C. and Vera Coronado Velasquez of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mrs. Riordan attended St. Margaret’s Academy; in Minneapolis, Minnesota she was a 1978 graduate of the University of Minnesoata earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Science. She moved to St. Mary’s County in 1985. Mrs. Riordan was the Manager of the Visitor Center at Historic St. Mary’s City and the Manager of Farthing’s Ordinary.
Mrs. Riordan is survived by her husband Timothy B. Riordan, whom she married on June 11, 1977 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Two sons Timothy P. Riordan and Phillip T. Riordan both of St. Mary’s City, Maryland also survive her. Two Brothers Thomas E. Velasquez of Bloomington, Minnesota and Jerry A.Velasquez of Irvine, California. Also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Family and friends will be received Wednesday, December 6, 2000 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. with prayers recited at 7; 00 p.m. at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, Maryland. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 7, 2000 at 11; 00 a.m. in St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church in St. Mary’s City, with Reverend Raymond Moore as the celebrant. Interment will be private. Pallbearers for Mrs. Riordan were; Thomas E. Velasquez, Jerry Velasquez, Jesse Velasquez, Timothy P. Riordan, Phillip T. Riordan and Frank Velasquez. Anna Maria Schennach
Anna Maria Schennach, 98, of Piney Point, Maryland, died at St. Mary’s Nursing Center in Leonardtown, Maryland, on Friday, December 1, 2000
Born on June 25, 1902 in Leutasch, Austria to the late Albuin and Judith Hasel Wanter Reindl. Mrs. Schennach moved to the United States from Austria in 1953 and has lived in St. Mary’s County for 3 years. Mrs. Schennach was a homemaker.
Mrs. Schennach was preceded in death by her husband Franz Joseph Schennach on May 4, 1939, she was married in 1920. She is survived by two daughters, Isabella McCracken of Piney Point, MD. and Gisela Juedeman of Bristow, OK. One sister Luise Jocher of Garmisch, Germany. She is also survived by six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received Tuesday, December 5, 2000 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, Maryland 20650. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated today, Wednesday, December 6, 2000 at 11; 00 a.m. in St. George’s Catholic Church, Valley Lee, MD, with Rev. Robert Reidel as the celebrant. Irene Alexandrovna Kampf
Irene Alexandrovna Kampf, 83, of Valley Lee, Maryland, died at her son’s residence in St. Inigoes, Maryland on Thursday, November 30, 2000.
Born on March 21, 1917 in Russia to the late Maria Golybov and Alexander Goronowsky. Mrs. Kampf moved from Satellite Beach, Florida and has lived in this area since 1994. Mrs. Kampf was a Homemaker. She also loves gardening and enjoys being with her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Kampf is survived by her husband; George Kampf, whom she married in June of 1946 in Germany. She is also survived by two sons; Alex Kampf and wife, Betty Jo of St. Inigoes, Maryland and Nick Kampf and wife, Lola of Portland, Maine, and two grandchildren; Katelyn and Daniel Kampf, both of Portland, Maine.
Family and friends will be received Friday, December 1, 2000 from 6 - 9 p.m. with prayers recited at 8; 00 p.m. at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, Maryland 20650. Interment will be private.

Alice Maria White of Leonardtown, MD died on Wednesday, December 13, 2000 in St. Mary’s Hospital.
Born on March 14, 1925 in Medley’s Neck, Maryland she was the daughter of Alice Estelle Higgs Woodburn of Leonardtown, MD and the late Wilmer Daniel Woodburn. She was the loving wife of Marvin Edward White.

Joseph Adams Barber
Joseph Adams Barber, 78, of Mechanicsville, MD died Tuesday, December 12, 2000 at his residence.
Born on December 20, 1921 in Mechanicsville, MD he was the son of the late Ninian Pinkney and Pauline Adams Barber. He was the husband of Mary Lou Barber. He was the father of George Alvin Barber of Issue, MD, Patricia Ann Barber of LaPlata, MD and Cynthia Louise Morgan of Mechanicsville, MD. He was the brother of Frank Barber and Jane Russello both of Mechanicsville, MD. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Francis DeSales Mattingly
Francis DeSales Mattingly, 82, of Leonardtown, MD died Monday, December 11, 2000, in the Washington Hospital Center.
Born on June 18, 1918 in Leonardtown, MD, he was the son of the late William D. and Agnes Mattingly. He was the beloved husband of Ellen M. Mattingly whom he married on November 24, 1945 in Leonardtown, MD. He was the father of Inez M. Frazier of Alexandria, VA, Sue "Frannie" Hilsinger of California, MD, Roger Mattingly of Leonardtown, MD, Roy Mattingly of California, MD, and the late Philip Mattingly. He was the brother of Lucille Juenger of Philadelphia, PA, Maryann McCurdy of Kissimee, FL, and the late Bert Mattingly, Cathell Mattingly, Pansey Campbell, Mary Spates, Rose Mattingly, Clarke Mattingley, and Clement Mattingly. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Mr. Mattingly was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County. He retired in 1975 after working as a mail carrier with the U. S. Postal Service. He served in the U. S. Army from 1940 - 1943. During his retirement years, he enjoyed yard work.

Agnes Theresa Higgs Ford
Agnes Theresa Higgs Ford, 93, of Lexington Park, MD died Saturday, December 9, 2000 following a lengthy illness, at the home of her daughter Mary Berenice Fairfax.
Born on August 23, 1907 in Medley’s Neck, MD, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Emanuel and Florene Lucretia Bowles Higgs. Mrs. Ford was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County. She was a homemaker and avid gardener, and devoted her life to caring for her extensive family. She also assisted in running the St. Mary’s County Alms House on Route 5 across from the County Fair grounds until it closed. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Ignatius "Nace" Ford, Sr. and her sisters Helena C. Armstrong and Frances A. Wiltrout. Mrs. Ford, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great, Great Grandmother is survived by daughters Agnes F. Kerig of Ventura, CA, Catherine Ann Stone of Park Hall, MD, Mary Berenice Fairfax of Lexington Park, MD and son George I. Ford, Jr. of Suffolk, VA. She is also survived by her sisters, Alice Estelle Woodburn of Leonardtown, MD, Mary Berenice Ferguson of Louisville, KY, Mary Eva Abell of Medley’s Neck, MD, Charlotte Ann Metzger of Waldorf, MD, Rebecca F. Shaulis of Rockville, MD and brother Thomas E. Higgs of Medley’s Neck, MD. Mrs. Ford leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
Friends may call in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Lexington Park, MD on Monday, December 11, 2000 from 5; 00 - 8; 00 PM with prayers being said at 7; 00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, December 12, 2000 at 10; 00 AM in the Church with Rev. Thomas Gude, celebrating. Barbara Ann Wood
Barbara Ann Wood of Mechanicsville, MD died on December 7, 2000 in St. Mary’s Hospital.
Born on May 27, 1937 in Solomons, MD she was the daughter of the late Joseph Kenneth and Indiana Florist Mason Elliott. She was the loving wife of the late Howard Ralph Wood whom she married in Baltimore, MD on October 8, 1955. He preceded her in death on June 13, 1998. She was the devoted mother of Howard R. "Chip" Wood, Jr. of Sudlersville, MD, Roderick Wood of Annapolis, MD, Charlene Fowler of Chestertown, MD, Craig Wood, Bruce Wood and Dale Wood all of Mechanicsville, MD.
Friends may call in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, P.A., 41590 Fenwick Street, Leonardtown, MD on Sunday, December 10, 2000 from 2; 00 to 5; 00 PM with prayers being said at 3; 00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, December 11, 2000 at 10; 30 AM in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Rev. Neal Ward, celebrating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

Ruth Agnes Peacock Stone
Ruth Agnes Peacock Stone of Park Hall, MD died on December 4, 2000 at her home.
Born on August 12, 1925 in Lexington Park, MD she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Cora Peacock. She was the loving wife of the late Ernest L. Stone, Jr. whom she married on December 15, 1946 in St. Michael’s Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on July 4, 1991. She was the devoted mother of Jean Nial, Diane Windsor, James Stone all of Park Hall, MD and Lois Rayburn of Nebraska. She was the sister of the late Beatrice McKay, James Peacock, Lucille Gatton and Thomas Peacock. She is survived by 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Mrs. Stone attended St. Michael’s School. She was a homemaker and worked several years with her husband at the Southern States Store in Park Hall, MD.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, December 7, 2000 at 10; 00 AM in Holy Face Catholic Church with Rev. Kevin O’Reilly, officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD. Pallbearers for Mrs. Stone will be John Nial, Jr., Hammett Stone, Robert "Moe" Stone, Lindy McKay, Leo Peacock and William Veda. Arrangements were provided by the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, P.A.
