Ayanna LaChay Taylor, 31, of California, MD died on Monday, March 8, 2004.
Born on May 17, 1972, in Leonardtown, MD, she was the daughter of Phyllis M. Fenwick Taylor and the late Heartic Lee Taylor, Jr.
“Chay” was educated in the public school system of St. Mary’s County, MD and graduated from Great Mills High School in 1991. Upon completion of high school, she graduated from Nursing School. She was currently employed at the Asbury Retirement Home, Solomons, MD as a GNA, (Medical Assistant). She also worked at the St. Mary’s Nursing Center, as a Medical Assistant and at CVS, as a pharmacy technician.
In her spare time, “Chay” enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed shopping, playing bingo, and cards. She will be remembered by her graceful smile and beautiful eyes. She possessed a loving heart and will truly be missed by her family, friends and co-workers.
“Chay” and her mother shared a special relationship, not only a mother and daughter relationship, also a relationship as “Sisters”.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving mother, Phyllis F. Taylor, of Lexington Park, MD, one brother, Telvon Markki Taylor, of Lexington Park, MD, one sister, Felicia Curtis, of Silver Spring, MD, paternal grandfather, Heartic Taylor, Sr. of Lexington Park, MD, maternal grandmother, Mae Howell, of Lexington Park, MD, aunts, Cynthia Fenwick, Delilah Ann Taylor, both of Lexington Park, MD, and Anita Davis and husband Darnell, of NAS Cuba, uncles, Ollie Taylor of Lexington Park, MD and Clifford Howell and wife Anna Marie of St. Inigoes, MD and a very special cousin Ricky Taylor, along with a host of loving cousins, nieces, a nephew and friends. In addition to her father her paternal grandmother, Linna Taylor, and one aunt, Doris Jean Stephens preceded her in death.
Friends may call on Saturday, March 13, 2004 at the First Missionary Baptist Church, Lexington Park, MD from 8; 30 am until 10; 30 am. A funeral service will be held at 10; 30 am. The Reverend Roderick McClanahan will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers for Chay will be Charles Dickerson, Tony Hatton, Sheron Chase, Johnny Hill, Kashif Dyson and Terrance Green. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ricky Taylor, Bernard London and Clifford Howell

Mary Lillian Raley Taylor, 104
Mary Lillian Raley Taylor, 104 of Ridge, MD died on Saturday, March 6, 2004 at her nephews home in Ridge, MD.
Born on September 17, 1899 in Scotland, MD, she was the daughter of the late John Ignatius and Susan Jean Gatton Raley.
Mrs. Taylor spent most of her life living on Wynne Road in Ridge, MD and the last several years living in the home of her nephew James Raley, where she was well loved. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and a former member of the St. Michael’s Ladies of Charity. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, crocheting and socializing with numerous family, friends, and neighbors. She was affectionately known as Miss Lillian by her three stepchildren and Aunt Lea to her numerous relatives and friends. What a gift she has given to all of us to have shared her life with us.
She is survived by one sister, Sister Mary Ignatia of the Convent of Mary Immaculate, in West Hartford, CT, two nephews, and their wives, James and Mary (Snooky) Raley, and Joe and Trudy Raley all of Ridge, MD, two nieces, Mary Frances Raley of Silver Spring, MD and Helen Jensen of TN, one stepson, Francis Taylor of St. Mary’s City, MD and numerous grand nieces, grand nephews, godchildren and step grandchildren. In addition to her husband Lamar Q. Taylor whom she married on February 10, 1945, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Ridge, MD, she was also preceded in death by four brothers, Stanley, Clyde (her twin), Harry and Howard Raley and two stepsons, Lawrence and Joe Taylor.
Friends gathered on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Ridge MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today, Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at 11; 00 am. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers for Mrs. Taylor will be Frank Taylor Jr., Bruce Scheible, Ronnie Yeatman, Bobby Cooper, William Boyd Radford and Tim Raley.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary’s Inc., P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650 and/or St. Michael’s Catholic Church School, P.O. Box 429, Ridge, MD 20680.

Joseph Gabriel Bowman
Joseph Gabriel Bowman, 41, of Chaptico, MD, died on Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD.
Born on February 23, 1962 in Leonardtown, he was the son of John Thomas Bowman of Waldorf, MD and Catherine Elaine Mills Bowman of Chaptico, MD. Mr. Bowman was a construction worker. He was an avid basketball and football fan. He enjoyed playing and watching the games and also loved music.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his children, Shacona Barnes of LaPlata, MD, Lamont Barnes of Lexington Park, MD, Rhonda Curtis of Arizona, three sisters, Debra Shorter of Budds Creek, MD, Belinda Barnes of Silver Spring, MD, Darcey Jenifer of Waldorf, MD a half-brother, Alex Bowman of Lexington Park, MD, and three grandchildren, Miya Barnes of Lexington Park, MD, Anthony Curtis of Arizona and Michael Jenifer, Jr. of LaPlata, MD.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church by Reverend David Waring. Interment followed in Sacred Heart Church cemetery in Bushwood, MD.
Serving as pallbearers were Tony Bowman, Francis Evans, Wayne Mills, Alvin Whalen, Wayne Barnes and Marty Holt. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Alvin Thomas, Raymond Holt, Jr., Desales Mills, Ricky Herbert, Derek Bowman and Carl Bowman.

Lawrence Raymond Wedding, 83, of Nanjemoy died June 3, 2003, at Civista Medical Center, La Plata. He was a vehicle operator at the Naval Ordnance Station in Indian Head and was a farmer. Born Aprill 22, 1920, in Welcome, he was the son of the late Ernest Wedding and the late Betty Wedding. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Wedding; and four brothers and five sisters. He is survived by his son, Charles Wedding of Arlington, Va.; daughters, Betty Wedding Welch of Nanjemoy, Gina Risko of Ironsides, Rita Wedding of La Plata and Mary Lou Lusby of Indian Head; sister, Pearl Carlson of Clinton; grandchildren, Michelle Halley, Lisa Simmons, Brandi Sorzano, Amber Lusby and Ray Stickel; and great-grandchildren, Jessie and Brent Stickle and Brandon Simmons. Services and burial were at Nanjemony Baptist Church, Nanjemoy. The Rev. James Fetty officiated. Pallbearers were Kenny Scott, Dwight Halley, Ray Stickel, George Simmons IV, Bill Peterman and Ricky Lusby. Arrangements were handled by Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, La Plata.

Harryette Cecelia Bush
70, of Silver Hill
Harryett Cecelia Bush, 70, of Silver Hill died June 2, 2003, at Providence Hospital, Washington, D.C. She was a homemaker. Born Feb. 2, 1933, in Marbury, she was the daughter of the late Russell Gray and the late Mary Bell Gray. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Lawrence A. Bush of Silver Hill; sons, Lyle I. Bush of Silver Hill and Lawrence C. "Larry" Bush of Waldorf; daughters, Cheryl Adrianne Bush of Fairfax, Va., and Julie C. Humphery of Crofton; son-in-law, Bob Humphery of Crofton; daughters-in-law, Bonnie Bush of Silver Hill and Dawn Bush of Waldorf; and grandchildren, Jennifer and Nicholas Humphery and Logan, Bianca, and Angelina Bush. Visitation was held June 6 at St. Ignatius Church, Port Tobacco. The Rev. Salvador Jordan officiated. Burial took place at St. Charles cemetery, Glymont. Pallbearers were Bob Humphrey, Alan Mannius, Michael Welch, Dwayne Gray, Silas Gray and Crocket Gray. Honorary pallbearers were Schirra Grey, Mark Grey and Monte Newman. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in memory of Colin Humphrey. Arrangements were handled by Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, La Plata.

Lloyd Leon Hedges,
Air Force Veteran
Lloyd Leon Hedges, 66, of Brandywine died May 30, 2003 at his residence. He was a retired supervisor for the U.S. Government at Naval Ordinance Station, Indian Head. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was also a life long member of the Indian Head Volunteer Fire Department. Born February 4, 1937, in Brandywine, Maryland. He was the son of the late, Tilton Elsworth Hedges and Myrtle Edith Hedges. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Willard Hedges, and Vernard Hedges; and one sister, Louise Cotrufo. He is survived by his brothers and sister, Milton C. Hedges, of Indian Head, Md., Harold T. Hedges, Vero Beach, Fl., Hazel C. Cockerham, of Topeka, Ks., Leonard P. Hedges, of Littlefield, Tx., Elvan A. Hedges, of Bryans Road, Md., and Floyd L. Hedges, of Tacoma, Wa. Pallbearers were Mike Hedges, Ralph Hedges, Roger Hedges, Janet Fogle, Dennis Scheesslee, and Dave McDonnell. Memorial contributions may be made to Indian Head Volunteer Fire Department, 4095 Indian Head Highway, Indian Head, Maryland 20640. Margaret Ann Brooks "Maggie"
On June 8, 2003. The beloved wife of the late Joseph C. Brooks; lifelong partner and companion of Joseph F. LaBille Sr.; mother of the LaBille children and their spouses, James G and Pamela, Jospeh F. Jr., and friend, Vickie O'Dell, Timothy P. and Jennifer, Catherine Ann, Lawrence M. and Sandra, Thomas C. and Christina, Charles R. and Melissa; grandmother of the joys of her life, 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sister of Lorraine C. Morrison and aunt of numberous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Society.

On Tuesday, June 3, 2003 of Lusby, Maryland. Husband of Lisa Murphy Gray and loving father of Ashley, Angela, Ian, and Austin Gray; loving son of Betty J. and the late Hugh Edward Gray; brother of Christopher and William Gray and Mary Beth Thomas.
Harvey Thomas Mattingly, Sr.
On June 7, 2003 of Forestville, MD. Beloved husband of Mary E. Mattingly; devoted father of Evelyn V. Bassett, Harvey T. (Barbara) Jr., John P. (Barbara), Ronald E. (Pennie), David W. and James E. Mattingly. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, four great- grandchildren, a sister, other relatives and friends.

On Thursday, June 5, 2003 of Calvert County, Maryland. Beloved wife of the late Berkley L. Pangle; loving mother of Robert L. Pangle and Sharyn L. Hardman; loving grandmother of Richard A. Thomas, Jr., Michelle L. Gott, Tanya L. Cable, Jennifer M. Pangle, Kristine N. Pangle and Timmy Hardman; great-grandmother of Windi M. Gott, Miranda G. Cable, Chase A. Thomas and Caroline A. Cable. James A. Hull (Age 81)
On Sunday, June 1, 2003 of Dunkirk, Maryland. Beloved husband of Jospehine E. Hull and loving father of Barbara Walter, Larry J. Hull and William R. Hull; grandfather of James and Ashlee Hull; brother of Charles W. Hull and Jerry S. Hull. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

COLLINS, LOUISE (Age 82)
Of Prince Frederick, MD, formerly of Hartfield, VA and widow of Otto H. Collins, Jr., died Sunday, May 25, 2003. She was a member of Lower United Methodist Church and Donna Chapter #176, OES. Survived by her daughter, Bonnie Lee Jarvis of Bogota, Columbia; son, Gary W. Collins of Prince Frederick, MD; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 28 at Lower United Methodist Church, Hartfield, VA. Interment church cemetery. BLOCKER, JOHNNY B.;
WWII US Army Red Ball Express Trucker
SPECIALIST 6TH CLASS JOHNNY B. BLOCKER of Waldorf, MD, died on May 10, 2003 of natural causes at the Civista Medical Center in La Plata, MD. Born in Columbia, SC in 1922, Mr. Johnny B. Blocker enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II and remained on active duty until 1967 when he retired from the service. During his service during the war, he was assigned to an elite trucking unit known as the "Red Ball Express" that provided supplies to the front line troops such as ammunition, petrol, food and never failed to deliver the much needed supplies. If not for drivers like him and others, Gen. Patton could not have advanced as fast as he did with his armored division. Further during the course of performing his duties, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for actions against the enemy. He also earned the Combat Infantryman's Badge (CIB) while assigned to an infantry unit along with the Purple Heart. The late Mr. Blocker is survived by his wife of 60 years, Geraldine Blocker; daughter, Jackie Rice; sons, Jonathan, Paul and Ronald Sr. Blocker. Also survived by one sister, Margaret Johnson; one brother, Gregory Blocker and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Blocker will lie in state on Tuesday, May 27 at the ADAMS FUNERAL HOME, P.A., Rte 381 Brandywine Rd., Aquasco, MD from 10 a.m. until Mass of Burial at 11 a.m. Interment Arlington National cemetery, Arlington, VA at 2 p.m.

BERGER RUDOLPH ELFSTROM, JR
BERGER RUDOLPH ELFSTROM, JR., unexpectedly passed away on April 3, 2003. He was born on February 8, 1931 in New Ipswich, NH. He was a graduate of Towle High School in Newport, NH. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at Chaminade University in Hawaii. Following high school he joined the Navy where he achieved the rank of Commander (CDR) and served for 26 years until retirement. He served in the US Navy's Medical Service Corps (MSC) for most of his military career. His duty stations included Cherry Point, NC; Norfolk, VA; Boston, MA twice; Rockville, MD; San Diego, CA; Honolulu, HI; Newport, RI; Patuxent River, MD and Washington, D.C. His last duty station was as the Regional Hospital Coordinator at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, MD. Following his Naval career, he became a successful restaurateur, owning and operating two restaurants for 12 years. He is survived by his wife, Lee; four sons, Gary, Bear, Greg and Glenn; their four wives and seven grandchildren; his sisters, Lillian Zullo and Shirley Patten of Newport, NH. He was preceded in death by his parents, Berger and Mamie and sister, Nancy Collins of Newport. Friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Sunday, June 1, at 2 p.m. at LEE FUNERAL HOME, INC., Branch Ave. and Coventry Way, Clinton, MD. Interment Monday, June 2, with Full Military Honors, at Arlington National cemetery. All are requested to assemble at the Administration Building at 10; 30 a.m.

On May 23, 2003, of Cobb Island, MD. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Langley; his children, Mary L. (Richard) Kerner, David W. Langley and Duane R. (Kathy) Middleton; grandchildren, Joshua, David and Joel Middleton and John Kerner. Friends may call on Wednesday, May 28, at the AREHART-ECHOLS FUNERAL HOME, 211 St. Mary's Ave., LaPlata, MD, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. where prayers were said at 7; 30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Issue, MD, at 12 Noon. Ruth 'Becky' Proffitt
Ruth 'Becky' Proffitt, 76, of Leonardtown, MD died on Thursday May 22, 2003 at the St. Mary's Hospital, Leonardtown, MD. She was born on February 16, 1927 in Leonardtown, MD, the daughter of the late G. Roger and Margaret Belle Yates Wathen. She is survived by two daughters, Jannette P. Norris and husband Jay Harry Norris, III. of Leonardtown, MD and Patricia A. Miesowitz and husband Patrick of Smethport, PA, five sisters, Mary Rita Delozier of Compton, MD, Catherine 'Kate' Hayden, Ramona Hayden, Alice Cromwell and Frannie Owens all of Leonardtown, MD, nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren also survive.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday May 27, 2003 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. The Reverend Rory Conley was the celebrant. Interment will follow in the Old St. Aloysius Catholic cemetery.

Clarence A. Aud, 62, of Leonardtown, MD, died on Thursday, May 22, 2003 at St. Mary's Hospital in Leonardtown, MD.
Born on March 26, 1941 in Great Mills, MD, he was the son of the late Clarence M. and Estelle Combs Aud.
He is survived by eight sisters; Dorothy Schinder of Leonardtown, MD, Myrtle Abell of California, MD, Teresa Trossbach of Hollywood, MD, Mary Schinder of Flags Beach, FL, Marie Trossbach of Hollywood, MD, Frances Trossbach of Leonardtown, MD, Edna Trossbach of Brown Mill, NJ, Bernice Aud of Leonardtown, MD, three brothers; Matthew Aud, Combs Aud both of Great Mills, MD and John Aud of Park Hall, MD. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Aud. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at Holy Face Catholic Church, Great Mills, MD at 10; 00 a.m. The Reverend Kevin P. Reilly celebrated the Mass. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Aud, Danny Aud, Douglas Aud, Warren Trossbach and Danny Bowles.
