Miriam A. Jaeger
GEORGETOWN, Del. - Miriam A. Jaeger died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at her home. She was 78.
Born in Denton, Md., she was the daughter of the late Mary W. and Clarence Atkinson.
She was a 1936 graduate of Caroline High School.
Mrs. Jaeger is survived by her husband of 57 years, Stanley Jaeger; four daughters, Eileen Haefner of Garden City, N.Y., Lorraine Mauro of Laurel, L.I., Barbara Moor of Mattituck, L.I. and Kathy Covias of Franklin Square, N.Y; two sisters, Hattie Curry of Millsboro, Del. and Jane Thurman of Georgetown, Del.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held in Mattituck, L.I., N.Y.
Arrangements were by DeFriest Funeral Home, Mattituck.
John N. Adkins
ST. MICHAELS - John Nathaniel Adkins, a retired scientist and noted geophysicist died Saturday, May 16, 1998 at his home, 9545 Quail Hollow Drive, Martingham, St. Michaels.
He was born in Spokane, Wash. on July 23, 1911, the son of the late John D. and Martha C. Adkins.
He attended Stanford University and received a degree in physics and his doctorate from the University of California at Berkeley.
Later, Dr. Adkins was a national research fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and became a professor of geophysics there in 1948.
A career followed as director of Earth Sciences, associate research director and assistant chief scientist with the Office of Naval Research in Washington D.C.
Dr. Adkins was a senior fellow of the Geological Society of America, a member of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and the Eastern Shore Council of the Navy League.
He also served as treasurer of the Talbot County chapter of the American Red Cross and was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Easton and the Talbot Country Club.
Dr. Adkins is survived by his wife Katherine Adkins of St. Michaels.
Interment will be in the churchyard of Historic Christ Church, Irvington, Va. where a graveside service will be held on May 26.

Clifford D. Baker
CHESTERTOWN - Clifford Davis Baker, of Chestertown, died of heart failure Sunday, May 17, 1998 at Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital in Chestertown. He was 84.
Born in Centreville, he was the son of the late John and Mary Elizabeth Baker.
Mr. Baker lived in Chestertown for the last 62 years. There, he and his wife, Ernestine, raised their children, and he owned and operated Baker's Repair Shop.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Sue Anne Morrison of Springfield, Mo., Patricia Holden of Washington D.C., Beverly Gibson of Chestertown and Katherine Kinsey of Denton; 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, May 20 at 2 p.m. at Crumpton cemetery.

Maxine H. Cain
CHESTERTOWN - Maxine Holland Cain, of Chestertown, died Wednesday, May 13, 1998. She was 69.
Born March 4, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Lucy Jones and Morris Holland.
Mrs. Cain attended Kent County public schools and graduated from Henry Highland Garnett School in 1945. Later, she attended the University of Maryland Eastern Shore for a year and studied at Chesapeake College to be a certified nurse's assistant.
Upon completing her studies, she briefly lived in New York and Baltimore before working for Vita Food Inc., Washington College and later Kent County Laundry.
Mrs. Cain was a member of Bethel AME Church in Chestertown and formerly married
to Alvin Cain of Barclay.
She is survived by a son, Wayne Cain, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, May 20 at 10 a.m. at Bethel AME Church, Chestertown. Interment was in Emmanuel cemetery
in Quaker Neck.

Anna M. Godfrey
CAMBRIDGE - Anna Mae Godfrey, of Cambridge, died Saturday, May 16, 1998 at Dorchester General Hospital. She was 90.
Born Nov. 11, 1907 in Whaleyville, she was the daughter of the late Charley Burt and Rebecca Smallwood Hudson.
Mrs. Godfrey worked on the family-owned farm with her husband, the late William Godfrey.
She is survived by two sons, Clifton R. Godfrey of Jacksonville, Fla. and Earl W. Godfrey of Fruitland; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Several other brothers and sisters died.
A graveside service was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 19 at Bishopville cemetery.

William B. Green
DENTON - William B. Green, of Denton, died of heart failure Saturday, May 16, 1998 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton. He was 71.
Born in Ridgely, he was the son of the late Willard H. and Lucy Long Green.
Mr. Green was an alcohol counselor for the state of Maryland and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
He was a member of Memorial Post V.F.W. 7937 in Greensboro.
Mr. Green is survived by a sister, Mattie L. Conner of Denton. Two other sisters, Marion Collison and Jean Blackburn, and two brothers, Allan "Flash" Green and Paul Green, are deceased.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, May 20 at 2 p.m at Moore Funeral Home, Denton. Interment was in Denton cemetery, Denton.

Betty W. Harrison
CAMBRIDGE - Betty W. Harrison of Cambridge died at home Sunday, May 17, 1998. She was 53.
Born Nov. 26, 1944 in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late C. Wheatley and Helen Bell Cook.
After attending schools in Cambridge, Mrs. Harrison worked for Air Liquide Corp. in Cambridge.
She is survived by two daughters, Cindy L. Barnett of Madison and Bonnie S. Harrison of Woolford; four sisters, Fay Bell and Josephine Saulsbury both of Cambridge, Alice Olp of Seaside, Ore. and Marian Moore of Madison; a brother, C. Wayne Cook of Cambridge, and four grandchildren.
A son, Irwin Harrison; a sister, E. Louise Windsor; and a brother, N. Lee Spear; are deceased.
A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 19 at Thomas Funeral Home, Cambridge. Interment was at Dorchester Memorial Park, Cambridge.

Patricia Ann Spies
CORDOVA - Patricia "Trish" Ann Draper Spies of Cordova, died Aug. 3, 2000, at her home in Cordova. She was 47.
Born June 17, 1953 in Easton, she was the daughter of Jeanne Gardener Warren of Greensboro and the late Hubert Lee Warren.
She was a lifetime resident of Cordova. She was employed by Prudential Insurance of Easton for the last year, as a district manager and insurance agent.
In addition to her mother Mrs. Spies is survived by a son, C.W. Draper Jr. of Greensboro; a brother, Albert Warren of Ridgely; a sister, Teresa Seiler of Denton and her former husband, Wayne Draper Sr. of Greensboro.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, Aug. 7, at 2 p.m. at Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home, Greensboro. Friends may visit at the funeral home one hour prior to services. Burial will be at Greensboro cemetery
in Greensboro.

Anna K. Wells
DENTON - Anna Klapka Wells died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000 at the Caroline Nursing Home in Denton. She was 87.
Born in Maryland on Jan. 22, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Stanislav and Anna Klapka
She worked for many years as a seamstress for a clothing manufacturer. Her husband was the late John D. Wells.
Mrs. Wells is survived by several nieces and nephews. Her sister, Marie Shanta, and her brother, George Klapka Sr., are deceased.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 8 at 10 a.m. at the Shimunek Funeral Home, 3331 Brehms Lane, Baltimore, where friends may call Monday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Burial will be at Bohemian National cemetery.
