David Bruce Welch of Benedict, Maryland died suddenly on March 7, 2006 at the Civista Medical Center in La Plata, Maryland. He was 50 years old.
Born on April 12, 1955 in La Plata, MD to Margaret Frances Therres Welch and Thomas Leroy Welch of Benedict, MD. David worked as an Operator for the Mirant Power Plant at Chalk Point. He was a life member of the Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad in Hughesville, MD. He loved riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle, as well as fishing, crabbing and being on the water.
In addition to his parents, David is survived by his daughter Michelle Welch; son Kyle Welch; fiancée Belinda Hooker and her family Eric and Lisa Johnson, Lorin Smith and Kyle Johnson, Stephanie Mohun and Denise Hintze, Mikah Mohun Hintze; sisters Judy Hutchins and Elaine Tettimer; brother Larry and his wife Mary Lee Welch; nieces Annette and her husband John Huntzberry, Kristen and her husband Jeff Walker, Kerrie and her husband Kurt Heydt; former wife; Sharon Murphy Mattia, four great nieces, one great nephew; many aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his nephew Kevin Tettimer.
Family to receive friends on Friday, March 10, 2006 from 2 to 8PM with Prayers at 7PM and Fireman’s Prayers at 7; 30PM at the St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church 7189 Benedict Road Benedict, MD where Mass of the Resurrection will be offered on Saturday, March 11, 2006 at 10AM with the Reverend Saverio Vitturino officiating. Interment at St. Mary’s Church cemetery Bryantown, MD. Pallbearers are Glen Therres, Chris Therres, Timmy Brock, Eddie Brock, Irving Chappelear and Robbie Welch. Honorary Pallbearers are Larry Welch, officers and members of the Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad.

Thomas Leroy Adams
Thomas Leroy Adams, “Kilroy” 89, of Tall Timbers, MD, died February 9, 2006 at Bayside Care Center in Lexington Park, MD. He was born January 5, 1917 in Valley Lee, MD.
Leroy worked on his family’s farm in Valley Lee for several years before leaving the county to work at Glen L. Martin Aircraft Co. in Middle River, MD.
He married Evelyn Marie Jarboe at St. Michael’s Church in Ridge, MD on January 25, 1941. Returning to the county in 1943, Leroy started his own farm, and worked at Patuxent River Naval Air Station as an aircraft mechanic until his retirement in 1974.
After retiring he enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and crabbing, but most of all he loved hunting with his beloved beagles. Leroy was a member of the Softball Hall of Fame. He enjoyed spending time with his family whom he adored and his numerous friends. Kilroy enjoyed life to the fullest and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was the son of the late Oliver Lee and Laura Bean Adams of Valley Lee, MD. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Mignonette Dobry, Lillian Herrmann, Annie Adams and Catherine Norris; and four brothers, Bean, Benjamin, Aubrey and Joseph Adams.
Mr. Adams is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of 65 years and four children, Patricia Gardner of Crofton, MD, Gloria Wilcox of Great Mills, MD, Frances Lyons of Henderson, NV and Thomas Leroy Adams, Jr. of Tall Timbers, MD, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, February 13th at 11; 00 a.m. at St. George’s Catholic Church, Valley Lee, MD. The celebrant will be Father Raymond Jarboe, nephew of the deceased. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday morning from 9; 30 to 11; 00 a.m. Pallbearers will be Robert Gammons, Leonard Lozen, Chris and Brad Wilcox, Thomas Gardner III, Michael Lyons, and Gregory Doner. Honorary Pallbearers will be Warren Wince, Henry Boothe, Alfred “Orem” Hammett, and Vernon Saunders, Jr. Eulogy will be given by Joseph Stone.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Second District Rescue Squad at Valley Lee, MD 20692 or Hospice House, P. O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Arrangements were made by Brinsfield Funeral Home in Leonardtown, MD.

Helen Kemple Dunn Perkins
Helen Kemple Dunn Perkins, 84, of Leonardtown, MD, died on February 12, 2006 in St. Mary’s Nursing Center, Leonardtown, MD.
Born on March 23, 1921 in Richmond, VA, she was the daughter of the late Sally Floyd and John Andrew Dunn. Mrs. Perkins grew up in Richmond where she excelled in dance, elocution, and playing the piano. Her mother delighted in making her costumes for her recitals. After her father’s death, she moved to Goochland, VA to live with her aunt and was graduated from Goochland High School. At the age of seventeen she married the love of her life, Carey Jones Perkins, and they moved to Fork Union, VA and made their home at Dixie. Mr. and Mrs. Perkins moved to St. Mary’s County with their three year old son, John Carey, when Patuxent River Naval Air Station was being built in 1942. Four years later the couple had a daughter, Linda Helen. In 1952 they built a home near Leonardtown where they remained until Mrs. Perkins moved to St. Mary’s Nursing Center. Mrs. Perkins devoted great time and attention to her family and home. She and her husband have been members of Lexington Park Baptist Church since it was formed in 1946. When their children were attending school, Mr. and Mrs. Perkins were always volunteering for school events. Her gardens always gave her great pleasure.
She is survived by her husband of sixty-six years, Carey Jones Perkins of Cedar Lane, Leonardtown, MD, a daughter, Linda Helen Chakales of Leonardtown, MD, a son John Carey Perkins of Bowie, MD, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 from 10; 00 a.m. until 11; 00 a.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. in Leonardtown, MD. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11; 00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel by the Reverend Joseph H. Dobson. Interment will follow in St. George’s Episcopal Church cemetery, Valley Lee, MD.

Paul Leslie Long
Paul Leslie Long of Mechanicsville, Maryland died Tuesday, December 06, 2005 at St. Mary’s Nursing Center in Leonardtown, Maryland. He was 74 years old.
Born on June 6, 1931 in Washington, DC to the late Viola May Morris and Andrew C. Long. Mr. Long served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War until he was Honorably Discharged in 1954. Former of Prince George’s County, Mr. Long has been residing in Mechanicsville for the past 9 years. He was a Draftsman for the U. S. Government, a member of the Mechanicsville Moose Lodge, the American Legion Post in Hughesville MD. He loved singing country music and playing his guitar. His last performance was at the OPUS cancer survivor’s picnic in June 2005.
He is survived by his wife Freda M. Long; daughters Sandra “Sandy” and her husband Terry White and Elinor “Ellie” Coleman; brother Leroy Long and sister Loretta Graney in Florida; grandchildren David White, Nicholas White, Paul Osborne, John Osborne, Ann Marie and Matthew Adam Blades; great grandsons Alex White, Bradley, Shane, and Dylan Osborne, and Paul Joseph Osborne Jr; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Family to receive friends on Sunday, December 11, 2005 from 2PM to 6PM at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A. 30195 Three Notch Rd. Charlotte Hall, MD where Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 12, 2005 at 11; 30AM. Interment Maryland Veterans cemetery Cheltenham, MD.

Margene Barnard Nelson
Margene Barnard Nelson of Charlotte Hall, Maryland died on Friday, December 9, 2005 at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. She was 61 years old.
Born March 14, 1944 in Palmer Park, MD to the late Alice Babb and Don Barnard. She recently retired from Southern Maryland Electric Co-Op (SMECO) in April after being associated in the accounting department. She attended Curves and the Christian Fellowship Retreat Center in Southern Maryland. She enjoyed being active in various religion groups, doing arts and crafts and playing cards with the girls. She had an appreciation for music especially Country and Western, Blue Grass and modern work. She was very fond of her dachshunds, Welsh Corgi and cat Smokey.
She is survived by her husband William T. Nelson; son Brian Willis; sister Maureen “Tootie” of Austin, TX; brothers Avery Barnard of Florida and George Barnard of Southern Maryland; sister-in-law Judy Barnard of Mitchell, SD; niece Adriann Harris; nephew Stephen Harris.

Earl James Vallandingham Jr
Earl James Vallandingham Jr., 50, of Laurinburg, N.C., died Dec. 11, 2005, at his home. Born Sept. 20, 1955, in Leonardtown, he was the son of Elizabeth Cecilia Lashalt and the late Earl Vallandingham Sr.
He was a poultry farmer with Perdue and a contractor with Cooler Erectors of Atlanta.He was an avid NASCAR fan.He addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his son, Earl James Killgore Vallandingham.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Wilkes Vallandingham; three sons, Earl J. Vallandingham III of Orange Park, Fla., and Adam Wilkes Vallandingham and Jacob Rowell Vallandingham, both of Laurinburg; his daughter, Amy Sue Vallandingham of Laurinburg; four sisters, Eva Cecilia Hall of Leonardtown, Earleen Snyder of Hollywood, Noreen Anne Vallandingham of Jacksonville, Fla., and Linda Rose Wilkes of Laurinburg; his stepfather, Clarence Peeler of Charlotte; his mother-in-law, Margaret Wilkes of Laurinburg; and one grandchild, Joy Kay Vallandingham of Bennettsville, S.C.
The family received friends Dec. 13 at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium in Laurinburg. Funeral services will be held today, Dec. 14, at 2 p.m. at Midway Presbyterian Church, officiated by the Rev. Roger Decker and the Rev. Glenn Harris. Joseph Wayne Trossbach
Joseph Wayne Trossbach, 65, of Dameron, MD, died on February 11, 2006 in St. Mary’s Nursing Center, Leonardtown, MD.
Born on November 23, 1940, he was the son of the late Joseph Harvey Trossbach and Mary Estelle “Mollie” Trossbach.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 16, 2006 from 10; 00 a.m. until 11; 00 a.m. in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Ridge, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11; 00 a.m. with the Reverend Maurice O’Connell as the celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Marie Evelyn Woodburn

Marie Evelyn (Wilkinson) Woodburn, 80, of Ridge, MD died peacefully Saturday evening February 4, 2006. Known as Evelyn to her family and friends, she was born on May 1, 1925 to Thomas Spencer Wilkinson and Clara Estelle Bradburn Wilkinson at their home on the St. Jerome’s Creek in Ridge, MD. She was the 2nd daughter and 3rd child in a family of four children. She attended St. Michael’s Elementary and High School, graduating in 1943, placing 2nd in class ranking.
After High School, she worked at the newly opened Patuxent River Naval Air Station in the Supply Department. After World War II, she met and married her husband of 50 years, Peter Ralph Woodburn on December 27, 1947. Mrs. Woodburn eventually stopped working to raise a family, which included 3 sons, Peter R. “Rocky” Woodburn, Jr. of Leonardtown, MD, Patrick D. Woodburn of St. Inigoes, MD and David B. Woodburn of Ridge, MD.
Having grown up on the water, Mrs. Woodburn was a champion soft crabber and fisherman, combing the shores of the St. Jerome’s Creek for over 50 years. She was an expert at what has become a lost art. In the spring of the year when crabs first began to come out of the mud to begin their molting, she would often catch 20 or 30 dozen per day, augmenting her family’s income. For relaxation, she and her husband grabbed their fishing rods and trolled the shores of the creek as well as the shores of the Chesapeake Bay from Point No Point to Butler’s Rock and rarely came home disappointed. During those years, she introduced her many family members and friends, nieces and nephews to the joys of fishing.
Mrs. Woodburn was a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Ridge, MD. where she was also a member of the Ladies of Charity.
Mrs. Woodburn was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her brothers and sister, Thomas Brent Wilkinson, Mary Madeline Stelflug and Joseph Louis Wilkinson. She leaves behind many loving family members, including her 3 sons and their wives, JoAnne, Carole and Betty, 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 7, 2006 from 5; 00 p.m. until 8; 00 p.m. in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Ridge, MD. Prayers will be recited at 7; 00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at 11; 00 a.m. in St. Michael’s Church. Father Maurice O’Connell will be the celebrant assisted by Father Jim Meyers and Father Dave Wering. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the church cemetery.
The pallbearers will be her grandsons, Cory Woodburn and Scott Woodburn, and the husbands of her granddaughters, Kirk Windsor, Eric Bryan, Doug Schuman and Ryan Lord.

Aaron Eugene Brown
U. S. Army WWII Veteran
Aaron Eugene Brown was born September 19, 1916 in Drayden, Maryland to the late Arthur and Dora Travers Brown. He departed this life on January 29, 2006. The seventh of nine children, he was educated in Drayden school.
He was inducted into the United States Army on July 11, 1941. During his tour of duty, he received the American Defense Service Medal; American Theater Service Ribbon; European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He was honorably discharged from the military service on December 3, 1945.
Eugene was a dedicated family member who was always available to assist his family and friends. He and his late wife Adelaide lived in Washington, D.C. for a while, then returned to St. Mary’s county when his father became ill. Eugene worked as a painter, custodian and a school bus driver. As a faithful member and Deacon at St. Matthew’s Free Gospel Church, he often spoke fondly of the pastor and members and how helpful they were to him.
During his lengthy illness, Eugene was attended to by his devoted brother James, as well as nieces, LaVerne, Charlene and Joyce; a 2nd cousin Shirley Taylor; Reverend Joseph Statesman and members from St. Mark’s Methodist Church. His sister Thelma and niece Dianne, who was also his godchild visited him whenever possible.
Eugene was preceded in death by his devoted wife of many years Adelaide; his parents and six of his siblings, Frank, Hazel, John, Vernon, Mildred and Arnold.
He is survived by one sister, Thelma Fenwick; one brother, James Brown; one sister-in-law Florence Brown; one nephew Elmer Brown; nieces; great-nieces; great-nephews; two 1st cousins, Ellen Jeffers and Frank Travers and a host of other relatives and friends.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, February 4, 2006 from 9; 00 a.m. until 10; 00 a.m. in St. Matthew’s Free Gospel Church, Leonardtown, MD. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 10; 00 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Mark’s UAME cemetery in Valley Lee, MD.
Pallbearers will be Fitzgerald Gordon, John Butler, John Briscoe, Vince William, William English and Charles Ford.
Funeral arrangements are being provided by the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., Leonardtown, MD.

Merry Lou Dustin
Merry Lou “Mayor of Half Pone Pt.” Dustin, 64, of Hollywood, MD and formerly of Seneca, MD died January 27, 2006 in St. Mary’s Hospital. Born March 27, 1941 in Barnesville, MD she was the daughter of the late Newt and Irma Stottlemyer. She was the loving wife of Douglas “Buzzy” Dustin whom she married in Glen Mont, MD on April 6, 1974. She is survived by her son; Michael D. Waltman and his wife Mary Pat of Hollywood, MD, and her brother Larry Stottlemyer of Myersville; 2 grandchildren, Kristin and Kelly Rice and 1 great-grandchild Matthew Patrick Andrasik. She was also preceded in death by her sister Gail Sine. She was a housewife. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 29, 2006 from 5; 00 – 8; 00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where prayers will be said at 7; 00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at 10; 00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Dustin officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens. Shawn Christopher “Sexy Beast 02” Hoflich, 23, of California, MD formerly of Hollywood, MD died January 29, 2006 in California, MD. Born June 2, 1982 in Leonardtown, MD he was the son of Michael Wayne and Sandra Marie Joy Hoflich of Hollywood, MD. He was the loving husband of Alisha Starr Hoflich whom he married of May 7, 2005 in Leonardtown, MD. He is survived by his brothers; Michael H. Hoflich of Alexandria, VA, Andrew L. Hoflich and Daniel S. Hoflich both of Hollywood, MD. Mr. Hoflich was a life long St. Mary’s County resident where he graduated of Leonardtown High School Class of 2000. He worked for 4 years as a concrete technician for Chaney Enterprise. He enjoyed cars, music, football “Dallas Cowboys”, amusement parks, spending time with family and friends, drawing pets, grilling, taking care of rambo, video games, electronics, going for rides, playing basketball and playing pool; Shawn’s motto “Live Strong Die Proud” A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday, February 2, 2006 at 10; 00 AM in St. John’s Catholic Church with Father Ray Schmidt officiating. Interment follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Michael H. Hoflich, Kevin A. Howell, Mark A. Stone, Chuck Z. Latham, Jimmy L. Cooper, Jr. and James C. Robey. Honorary Pallbearer will be Michael H. Hoflich.. Susan Ruth Vallandingham Eyler, 53, of Hollywood, MD, died on January 25, 2006 at her residence.
Born on August 6, 1952 in Leonardtown, MD, she was the daughter of Lucy Harrison Vallandingham and the late James Howard Vallandingham, Sr. She was a 1970 graduate of Chopticon High School. Ms. Eyler had worked as a manager of the 7-11 stores in Charlotte Hall and LaPlata, MD and at the Burch Mart in Hollywood, MD.
She is survived by her mother, Lucy Harrison Vallandingham, six children, Jennifer S. Eyler of Hollywood, MD, Becky Eyler of Mechanicsville, MD, Rachael Eyler of Mechanicsville, MD, Patricia Eyler of Hollywood, MD, Micah Eyler of Hollywood, MD and Dathan Eyler of Hollywood, MD, seven sisters, Lucy Dixon of Sandgates, MD, Judy Hudson of Huntingtown, MD, Pat Clark of Skipwith, VA, Melinda Ford of Hollywood, MD, Joan Chicwak of Skipwith, VA, Monica Reyes of Bear, DE, Milly Farrell of Leonardtown, MD, two brothers, Jimmy Vallandingham of Williamsburg, VA and Irving Vallandingham of Piney Point, MD. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Harrison Vallandingham.
