Glen Taylor Powell
Glen Taylor Powell, 23, of Herndon, VA died Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital, Fairfax, VA.
Born August 29, 1981 in Jacksonville, FL, he was the son of Jennifer Ann Powell and the late Ben Norman Powell.
Glen graduated in 1999 from Leonardtown High School in Leonardtown, MD. He also graduated from Frostburg State University in 2003 with a Bachelors of Science in International Business and was attending the University of Phoenix pursuing a Masters degree in Business. Preceding his death he was employed by Nortel PEC Solutions in Fairfax, VA. Glen was a loving son, caring brother, and a special friend. He was patient and calming, responsible, practical and wise beyond his years, self-assured, humble, faithful blood donor, devoted, ambitious and goal oriented, goofy and fun loving, athletic, liked the water and boats, blue jeans, polo shirts and flip flops. Glen loved basketball, pool, shrimp and pecan pie, his Jeep, and his best friend and loyal companion, Gunner (Glen’s 8 month old Chocolate Lab).
He is survived by his mother, Jennifer Ann Powell of California, MD a brother, Daniel L. Powell of California, MD and his paternal grandmother, Winona Powell of Tifton, GA.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 14, 2005 from 3; 00 p.m. until 5; 00 p.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. in Leonardtown, MD. Funeral Service will be conducted on Monday, August 15, 2005 in St. Nicholas Chapel, Patuxent River, MD. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Red Cross, St. Mary’s County Chapter, P.O. Box 387, Leonardtown, MD 20650 or any other organization in Glen’s memory so that good can come from this tragedy.

Rose Marie Costanzo
Rose Marie Costanzo, 58 of Seabrook, MD died on Saturday, August 13, 2005 at her residence.
Born on October 5, 1946 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Charles Edward and Margaret Ching Moreland. She attended Capitol Heights Elementary and Central Senior High School in Capital Heights. She retired as a Book Binder for Delancey Printing Company in Alexandria, VA. Prior she worked for McDonald-Eudy printing in Marlow Heights. She loved bingo and coffee.
Survived by her husband, Peter M. Costanzo, Sr. whom she married in January 1964, children, Jo Ann Marie Akers of Chesapeake Beach, MD, Peter Michael Costanzo, Jr. of Mechanicsville, MD, and Joseph Charles Costanzo of Seabrook, MD, sisters Elizabeth Myers of Harpers Ferry, WV, and Linda Wells of Huntingtown, MD, brother, Edward Moreland of Newburg, MD. Grandchildren, Shelby Marie Akers, Cory James Desmond, Lexy Taylor Costanzo, and Thomas Justin Akers also survive her.
Family will receive friends today, Wednesday, August 17, 2005 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in The Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home Chapel, 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD where a Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD.
Pallbearers will be; Ricky, Robbie, and Tommy Sullivan, Chris Myers, Jason and Jamel Masri.

Delores Naomi Johnson
Delores Naomi Johnson, 68, of Lexington Park, Maryland died on August 15, 2005 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Leonardtown, Maryland. Born on May 18, 1937 in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Sylvester and Jeannette Elizabeth Parker Young.
She is survived by her husband James Oliver Johnson of Loveville, Maryland, three daughters, Theodora Anne Stewart, Paula Naomi Greenwell, Mary Patricia Johnson, one son, James Oliver Johnson, Jr., one brother, Joseph “Tony” Young, two sisters, Bernardette Herbert, Fedora Smith, and four grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Paul Young.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 23, 2005 from 9; 30 a.m. to 10; 30 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary, 22375 Three Notch Road, Lexington Park, Maryland 20653. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10; 30 a.m. with Reverend Mike Dolan. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to Knights of St. John Lady’s Auxiliary #305, Bushwood, Maryland.

Agnes Cecelia Jackson
Agnes Cecelia Jackson, 65, of Lexington Park, MD, died on August 15, 2005 at her residence.
Born on February 11, 1940 in Mechanicsville, MD, she was the daughter of Mary Cecelia Bond and the late John Henry Bond. Mrs. Jackson worked as a bus attendant.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her four sisters, Ann Chase Jenkins, Catherine Briscoe, Elizabeth Wooden all of Lexington Park, MD, Mary Rhone of Belgium, six brothers, John Bond of Leonardtown, MD, Joseph Thomas of Indian Head, MD, Arthur Thomas and Rodney Thomas both of Lexington Park, MD, Raymond Thomas of Toms River, NJ and Kenneth Thomas of Jacksonville, FL. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary “Bernice” Bond and two brothers, James Bond and Francis Thomas.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 22, 2005 from 10; 30 a.m. until 12 Noon in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Lexington Park, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 Noon. Father Roberto will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD.

Rose Marie Honkala
Her loving family and friends mourn the death of Rose Marie Honkala, 78, of Lexington Park, Maryland. After a long illness, Mrs. Honkala died at the Calvert County Nursing Home, Prince Frederick, Maryland. Rose was a long time resident of St. Mary’s City, Maryland where the family owned a home on the St. Mary’s River. Her husband, Dr. Fred S. Honkala was associated with the College in that city. Born in Mobridge, SD in 1926, Rose graduated from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. She pursued an advanced degree in Psychology at the University of Montana, Missoula and worked as a councilor in that department. She met and married Dr. Honkala who was then the Chairman of the Geology Department. Rose taught public school as well as teaching autistic and mentally handicapped children at Christ Child School in Bethesda. Later she taught at Baycroft School, a private facility for troubled youths in Maryland. For several years she worked as a statistician at an army installation in Alexandria, VA. When her husband served as president of Yankton College in South Dakota, Rose restored the president’s home and continued her love of gardening. By nature Rose was builder and renovator of homes. While living in Alexandria, VA, Rose renovated their town house in Old Town. Rose loved her home on the St. Mary’s River and developed it to a beautiful retreat for her family and friends.
Survivors are her children; son Eric Honkala (Debbie) of Somonauk, IL, daughter Lisa Beverly of Manassas, VA, and son Karl Honkala of St. Mary’s City, her four grandchildren are Erica Honkala, Robert Honkala, Anne Beverly and Drew Beverly. She is also survived by a sister Patsy Okaya of Minneapolis, MN.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Fred S. Honkala, her parents Ralph and Louise Fraher, and a sister Frances Grainger.
A Memorial Service and burial will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2005, at 11; 00 am in the Trinity Episcopal Church, 47477 Trinity Church Road, St. Mary’s City, Maryland 20686.
Memorials in her name may be given to Trinity Episcopal Church, P.O. box 207, St. Mary’s City, MD 20686 and to the St. Mary’s County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 309, Leonardtown, Maryland 20650.
Funeral arrangements are being provided by the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., Leonardtown, Maryland.

Helen Marie Hynson
Helen Marie Hynson, 65, of Hollywood, MD, died on August 17, 2005 at her residence.
She is survived by her husband, John C. Hynson of Hollywood, MD and a son, Charles Alfred Hynson of Mechanicsville, MD.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 21, 2005 from 2; 00 p.m. until 5; 00 p.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. in Leonardtown, MD. Prayers will be recited at 4; 00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 22, 2005 at 10; 00 a.m. in St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church, Hollywood, MD. The Reverend Ray Schmidt will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Jack Nial
U. S. Navy WWII Veteran
John Augustus “Jack” Nial, Sr., 85, of California, MD died August 13, 2005 in Washington, D.C. Born October 2 9, 1919 in Troy, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph B. and Mary Curry Nial. He is survived by his loving wife, Irene C. Naruszewicz Nial, whom he married on June 1, 1947. He is also survived by his children, Jack Nial, Jr. of Park Hall, MD; James Nial of California; Dennis Nial of Gaithersburg, MD; Gary Nial of Lewiston, ID; Kevin Nial of California, MD; and Mary Nial Walsh of Waldorf, MD and 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Walter Nial of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and his sister, Frances Smith of Chevy Chase, MD.
Mr. Nial was preceded in death by his siblings, Marion Nial, Marjorie Leonard, J. B. Nial, Jr., Helen Gray, Irene Oram and Loretta Nial.
He graduated from Lansingburg High School, Class of 1938 and from Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute in December, 1943 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1944 until his Honorable Discharge in 1953. He was employed as an Aeronautical Engineer for the U.S. Government, Department of the Navy, for 33 years until his retirement in 1979.
Mr. Nial was a member of the American Institute of Astronautics and Aeronautics, the Society of Engineers and Scientists and the Flight Test Engineers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking camping and walking in his spare time and was a member of the Barber Shop Chorus.
The family received friends on August 17, 2005 in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Lexington Park, MD, where a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on August 18, 2005 officiated by Father Roberto Cortes’. Interment followed in Immaculate Heart of Mary cemetery. Pallbearers for Mr. Nial were Jack Nial, Jim Nial, Dennis Nial, Gary Nial, Eric Walsh and Kevin Stevens. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 415 N. Charles Street, Baltimore, MD 21201-4101. Arrangements provided by Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, P.A.

Robert Lewis Anderson, Sr.
Born; October 20, 1915
Died; August 19, 2005
Services; A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 24, 2005 at 11; 00 AM in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Morganza, MD with Fr. Keith Woods officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation; Public visitation will be held in the Mattingley-Gardiner funeral home on Tuesday, August 23, 2005 from 4 - 8 PM with prayers being said at 7; 00 PM.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the 7th District Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 7, Avenue, MD 20609.

Catherine Marie Frank
Catherine Marie Frank, 83, of Arlington, VA died August 19, 2005 in the Virginia Hospital Center, Arlington, VA. Born December 27, 1921 in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Luke T. and Elizabeth Forest Williams.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Frank, whom she married in 1939. Catherine leaves to cherish her memories her daughter Joann and husband David Dale of Arlington, VA; two grandchildren, Christine McManus and David Dale, Jr.; one great-grandchild Jackson Dale McManus; and, her nephews Thomas Wiley of Arlington, Va., Wayne Wiley, Michael Wiley and Timothy Wiley of Ridge, MD. She was also preceded in death by her brother, John Williams, of Baltimore, MD and her sister, Teresa Wiley, of Ridge, MD. She attended St. Michaels Boarding School and graduated from St. Mary’s Star of the Sea in Baltimore, MD. She lived in Baltimore, MD until 1-1/2 years ago when she joined her daughter and her family in Arlington, VA. She spent her summers in Ridge, MD for most of her life, where her heart and affection where directed.
The family received friends in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Ridge, MD on Tuesday, August 23, 2005 where a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated with Father Maurice O’Connell officiating. Interment followed in St. Michael’s cemetery. Pallbearers for Mrs. Frank were David Dale, Jr., Thomas Wiley, Wayne Wiley, Michael Wiley, Timothy Wiley and James Morley.

Daniel Leach Raley
Daniel Leach Raley, 56, of Timonium, MD, passed away Wednesday, August 24, at Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Towson, Maryland. Mr. Raley, a native of St. Mary’s County, was born in Leonardtown, Maryland in October 14, 1948. He graduated as Valedictorian of Ryken High School in 1966. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore in 1970 with a BS in engineering and was inducted into Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society. He received his Master’s in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts in 1972. Mr. Raley was an environmental engineer with E A Engineering in Hunt Valley, Maryland. In his over 30 years as an engineer, Raley produced environmental assessments for the National Park Service for nearly every National Park in the continental U.S. and was a strong advocate of sustaining our Parks for future generations. He was also an avid Orioles fan who attended many games and made several trips to Cooperstown, New York, to the Baseball Hall of Fame for Induction Ceremonies.
Friends will be received at Brinsfield Funeral Home in Leonardtown, MD on Sunday, August 28, from 2 to 5 pm. A graveside service will be held at the St. Francis Xavier Church cemetery in Newtowne on Monday, August 29, at 10; 00 am. He is survived by his mother, Minnie Eleanor Raley and his five brothers; Carl Raley and his wife Cinda of Leonardtown; George Raley and his wife Sue of Rising Sun, MD; Stephen Raley of Leonardtown; Leonard Raley and wife Suzanne of Athens, OH; and John Raley and his wife Carol of Phoenix, MD. He is also survived by three nephews; Marc, John, and Brian Raley and three nieces; Sara, Elyse and Allison Raley. He was predeceased by his father George E. Raley of Leonardtown. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations should be made to the George and Eleanor Raley Scholarship Fund, St. Mary’s Ryken High School, 22600 Camp Calvert Road, Leonardtown, Maryland 20650.

Robert A. Butch Thompson, Sr.

Robert A. Butch Thompson, Sr., 62, Bushwood, MD died on August 27, 2005 in his residence. Born January 8, 1943 in Avenue, MD he was the son of the late Thomas Bertrand and Louise Russell Thompson, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle B. Thompson and his children, Joan V. Farr of Clements, MD and Robert A. Thompson, Jr. of Chaptico, MD. A full obituary will appear at a later date.

Bernard Joseph Drury, Sr., 85
U.S. Army WW II Veteran
Bernard Joseph Drury, Sr., 85, of Mechanicsville, Maryland died on April 28, 2005 at his residence. Born on January 29, 1920 in Mechanicsville, MD, he was the son of the late Francis Eugene and Elizabeth Long Drury.
Mr. Drury was a graduate of Margaret Brent High School and a graduate of Bliss Electrical College. He served with the United States Army from January of 1942 until July of 1945, with the European-African Middle East Campaign with the 26th Air Squadron. He married his beloved wife of 59 years, Betty Ann Harding Drury on January 29, 1946. From 1947 to 1978 he owned and operated B.J. Drury Electrical Contractors and he also worked as an associate Real Estate broker for the B&B Realty company. He was a member of the Southern Maryland Board of Realtors.
Mr. Drury is survived by his wife, Betty Ann Harding Drury, two daughters, Cheryl D. Norton of Mechanicsville, MD, and Cynthia L. Fields and her husband John of Mechanicsville, MD, two sons, Bernard J. Drury, Jr. and his wife Karen of Nanticoke, PA and Leonard F. Drury of Mechanicsville, MD, three sisters, Mary Jane Bonham and husband Bill of Charlotte Hall, MD, Clara Bell and her husband Richard of Riva, MD, Ruth Schuart of Waldorf, MD and sister-in-law Hilda Drury of Clements, MD, six grandchildren, Duane P. Drury, Brandi L. Norton, Brian K. Drury, John A. Fields, Jennifer L. Fields and Jason A. Drury and three great grandchildren Kayla, Kristen, and Emma. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jesse J. Drury, Henry Matthew Drury, and Francis E. Drury, Jr.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 4th, 2005 from 4; 00 to 8; 00 p.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home Chapel. Prayers will be recited at 7; 00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 5th, 2005 at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church, Hollywood, MD at 11; 00 a.m. with the Reverend Ray Schmidt as the celebrant. Interment will follow in the Queen of Peace cemetery, Helen, MD.
Pallbearers will be Duane P. Drury, Brian K. Drury, Jason A. Drury, John A. Fields, Robert L. Blevins, Thomas M. Burroughs, Albert Scully and Francis E. (Gene) Drury.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jennifer F. Fields and Brandi L. Norton.
