Douglas Wayne Abell, 47, of Valley Lee, MD, died on April 28, 2005 in Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, DC.
Born on June 12, 1957 in Leonardtown, MD, he was the son of the late Philip Brown Abell and Betty Sue Page Abell. Mr. Abell had worked for the Seafarer's International Union School of Seamanship at Piney Point.
He is survived by a brother, Steven C. Abell of Valley Lee, MD.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 6, 2005 from 12 Noon until 1; 00 p.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. in Leonardtown, MD. A Graveside Service will be conducted on Friday, May 6, 2005 at 1; 30 p.m. in the St. George’s Episcopal Church cemetery, Valley Lee, MD. The Reverend Albie Hazen will conduct the service.

Loyal Edward “Steve” Stevick
U. S. Navy Veteran
Loyal Edward “Steve” Stevick, 67, of Lexington Park, MD, died on April 27, 2005 at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.
Born on July 11, 1937 in Butler, PA, he was the son of the late Edgar Ulysses and Katherine Schuller Stevick. Mr. Stevick served his country in the U.S. Navy retiring in 1978. He worked for Dyncorp for several years after retiring from the Navy. Mr. Stevick worked as a Jet Engine Mechanic and instructor at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, MD retiring in 1994.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Daly Stevick, four children, Tamara Ann Freeman of Annandale, VA, Todd Alan Stevick of Ridge, MD, Cathleen Ann Tobin of Hanahan, SC, Michael R. Ameye of Woodstock, GA, nine grandchildren, a sister, Loretta Quigley of East Falmouth, MA and a brother, Leroy Lawrence of Owensboro, KY and half-brother, Raymond Sadler of Richland, WA.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 2, 2005 from 5; 00 p.m. until 8; 00 p.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. in Leonardtown, MD. A Prayer Service will be conducted at 7; 00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be conducted on Tuesday, May 3, 2005 in Trinity Lutheran Church, Lexington Park, MD at 10; 00 a.m. Pastor Stephen Updegrave will conduct the service. Interment will follow in the Trinity Episcopal Church cemetery in St. Mary’s City, MD.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Maryland Chapter, 8600 LaSalle Road, The Chester Building, Suite 314, Towson, MD 21286.
Stevick, 67, of Lexington Park, MD, died on April 27, 2005 at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.

Constance D. Culp,
62, of La Plata
Constance D. Culp, 62, of La Plata died April 28, 2005 at Civista Medical Center, La Plata. She was a site manager for Southern Maryland Oil for 30 years. She was a member of the La Plata United Methodist Church. She enjoyed animals, birds, flowers, antiques and traveling. Born December 22, 1942 in Keyser, West Virginia, she was the daughter of James Waldon Rucker and Georgia Rucker. She was preceded in death by her brother, Douglas McVay. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her nephews, Christopher Jo McVay, Justin Rucker, Jared McVay and Jeremiah Rucker; niece, Lisa M. Conner; great-niece, Nicole McVay and great-nephew, Kyle McVay. A gathering will be held Tuesday, May 3 from 6-8 p.m. with a memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, La Plata. The Rev. Davis Peck will officiate. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Asso., 800 Wyman Park Drive, Baltimore, MD 21211. Arrangements are being handled by Arehart-Echols Funeral Home.

Francis Clemens “Dutch” Brahler
Francis Clemens “Dutch” Brahler, 98, of Mechanicsville, MD died May 3, 2005 at his residence. Born July 16, 1906 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late George Thaddeus and Catherine M. Giebel Brahler. Mr. Brahler is survived by his children,
Joan Turner and Ann Brahler both of Mechanicsville, MD and Cathy Adolf of Baltimore, MD. Also surviving are three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wives; Teresa Agnes Brahler, whom he married in January 1930; Edna S. Brahler, whom he married in November 1958; and, Catherine Blake Brahler, whom he married in 1976. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Helen T. Brahler and Ruth Brahler. Mr. Brahler was a graduate of Gonzaga High School, Class of 1924. He relocated to St. Mary’s County from Hyattsville, MD in December, 2000. Mr. Brahler was employed as an aircraft inspector for United Airlines/Capitol for over 28 years until his retirement in January, 1969. He was a member of the IAM Union, Local 1759 and the Knights of Columbus. The family received friends in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home on Thursday, May 5, 2005. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 6, 2005 in St. Francis DeSalles Catholic Church in Benedict, MD with Father Vitturino officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s cemetery, Washington, D.C. Pallbearers for Mr. Brahler will be John Francis Brahler, Michael P. West, Christopher Borchert, David Borzi, Robert Moore and David Iaonone. Honorary pallbearers will be Derek W. Moore, Zachary T. Moore, Lucas T. Moore, Joe Hayden, Raymond Kline and Francis Johnson. John Knight Parlett
John Knight Parlett, Sr., 68, of Charlotte Hall, MD died on May 1, 2005 at his residence. Born February 1, 1937 he was the son of the late Lawrence Linthicum and Lucy Louise Fowler Parlett. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Ann Mattingly Parlett, whom he married on August 20, 1954 in Our Lady’s Church, Medley’s Neck, MD. He is also survived by his children; John Knight Parlett, Jr., of Charlotte Hall, MD; Joseph Lawrence Parlett, Sr. of Charlotte Hall, MD; Cathleen Parlett Moeller of St. Leonard, MD; Cynthia Parlett Pickett of Wilmington, NC; William Timothy Parlett of Huntingtown, MD; Robert Wayne Parlett of Charlotte Hall, MD; and, Julie Parlett DeCesaris of Davidsonville, MD. Also surviving are twenty grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Louise Parlett Gardiner, Lawrence L. Parlett, Jr. and Eugenia Parlett Smitha. Mr. Parlett was a life-long St. Mary’s County resident and attended Charlotte Hall Military Academy. He was a farmer, businessman, politician and an avid collector of antique farming tools and equipment. He also served as a member of the Maryland National Guard for five years. Mr. Parlett served as a St. Mary’s County Commissioner from 1974 – 1978; as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates from 1981 – 1986; and, was the Founder of the “John K. Parlett Farm-Life Museum of Southern Maryland” which sponsors the annual “Southern Maryland Farm-Life Festival” for the benefit of St. Mary’s County Christmas in April program. Prayers will be said on Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at 7; 00 P.M in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home P. A., Leonardtown, MD where the family will receive visitors from 4; 00 to 8; 00 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at 10; 00 A.M. in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Compton, MD with Father John Mattingly officiating. Interment will be private. Pallbearers for Mr. Parlett will be his grandsons; John K. Parlett III, Joseph L. Parlett II, Kyle R. Moeller, Marshall M. Pickett, Robert W. Parlett II, and Matthew T. Parlett. Harold Aloysius Anderson
Harold Aloysius “Sticks” Anderson, Sr., 80, of Mechanicsville, MD formerly of Thompson Corner died April 30, 2005 in St. Mary’s Nursing Center. Born December 18, 1924 in Mechanicsville, MD he was the son of the late James Briscoe Anderson and Cora Eva Williams. He was preceded in death by his wife Juanita Marie Alvey Anderson on August 12, 2002 in Washington Hospital Center; whom he married on April 9, 1947 in St. John’s Catholic Church. He is survived by his children; Harold A. Anderson, Jr. and Charles P. Anderson both of Mechanicsville, MD; brothers and sisters; Robert Anderson of Clements, MD, Helen Thompson of Solomons, MD, Elva Wood of Leonardtown, MD, Albert Anderson, Gladys Barbar and Marie Chesley all of Mechanicsville, MD; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Mr. Anderson graduated from Margaret Brent High School Class of 1944. He was a life long St. Mary’s County resident where he worked as a farmer until his retirement in 1976. His hobbies were farming, fishing, hunting and playing cards. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 4 from 4; 00 – 8; 00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where prayers will be said at 7; 00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 5 at 10; 00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dale Skurla officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Memorial Gardens. Hilda Agnes Greer
Hilda Agnes Greer, 86, of Hollywood, MD formerly of Charles County died April 30, 2005 in Leonardtown, MD. Born October 8, 1918 in Washington, DC she was the daughter of the late James Edward and Beulah Robey Grinder. She was preceded in death by her husband Theodore Ovid Greer. She is survived by her children; Barbara June Miller, James Theodore “Ted” Greer and William Edward “Bill” Greer; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her children; Daphne Jo Greer, Beulah Jean Greer and brother; James Edward Grinder, Jr. Ms. Greer was a homemaker who enjoyed playing bingo and doing all kinds of crafts. A Memorial Service for Mrs. Greer will be held on Friday, May 6, 2005 at 10; 00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ken Walker officiating. Inurnment will follow at Charles Memorial Gardens. Arrangements provided by the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, P.A.

Barbara Carroll Rud
Barbara Carroll Rud, 59 a retired Math Teacher, died of breast cancer May 4th at St. Mary’s hospital in Leonardtown, MD. Mrs. Rud taught Math at the Middle School, High School and Junior College levels in school systems all over the country.
She was born October 27th, 1945 in Carrollton, Mississippi and grew up in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. Barbara graduated from Leflore County High School, Itta Bena, Mississippi in 1963. She attended Mississippi University for Women, graduating with a Math and Physical Science Degree in 1967.
While teaching Math at Woodham High School in Pensacola, FL, Barbara met and married her husband of 37 years, Gil Rud, who was a student Naval Aviator. As they moved about the country, she taught in school systems in California, Florida, Texas, and Virginia. Mrs. Rud had a particular talent in reaching and motivating disadvantaged students many of whom directly credit her for their success in life. She was also an accomplished and talented interior decorator.
With her husband often deployed overseas, and she working full time, Mrs. Rud raised their three children, somehow finding the time to attend every event these rambunctious, athletically gifted kids participated in.
Survivors include her husband Gil of Hollywood, MD; daughters Valerie Overstreet(Travis), Virginia Beach, VA; Sally, Waldorf, MD; and son Ryan(Debrah), Boston, MA. Barbara also leaves a grandson, Jackson who blessed her life on December 14th 2004. Mrs. Rud is also survived by her mother Audrey Carroll, Montgomery, LA; sister Madeline Millican(Lee), Greenwood, MS. and brother Darryrl who resides in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
She was a wonderfully talented teacher, and a loving wife and mother who will be profoundly missed by everyone whose life she touched. Services of Remembrance will be held on Monday, May 9th at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD. Visitation will take place from 5-7pm with a celebration of her life at 7pm. The family requests that donations in lieu of flowers be sent to; Cancer Support Group, I/COOPIS, St Mary’s Hospital, Leonardtown, MD 20650

Susie Tice
L. Susie Tice of Mechanicsville, MD died on May 5, 2005 at the Charles County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in La Plata, MD. She was 55 years old.
Born December 11, 1949 in Annapolis, MD to the late Lottie C. and Josiah H. Tice. She had been a clerk at the Vintage Value store in Leonardtown, MD and was active with the ARC of Southern Maryland and Special Olympics.
She is survived by her brother Josiah H. Tice of Centerville, MD; sister Nellie G. Armiger of Palm Bay, FL; brother Herbert G. Tice Sr. and his wife Mary B. Tice of Mechanicsville, MD; five nieces and four nephews.
Memorial Services 5PM Wednesday, May 18, 2005 with the Reverend Jim Wickham officiating at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A. 30195 Three Notch Rd. Charlotte Hall, MD. Interment will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to the ARC of Southern Maryland P. O. box 338 Leonardtown, MD 20650.

Ruth Havener Bray
Ruth Havener Bray of Mechanicsville, Maryland formerly of Sunderland, Maryland died on April 27, 2005 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, Maryland. She was 86 years old.
Born September 1, 1918 in Baltimore, Maryland. She retired after 37 years of government service with the U. S. Air Force. She was a Past Matron of the Martha Chapter #4, Order of the Eastern Star, Grand Marshal of the DC Order and President of the past Matrons and Patrons Association of 1958. She enjoyed making ceramics and crocheting. She also loved to dance.
She is preceded in death by her husband Edwin W. Bray.
She is survived by her son John W. Bray and his wife Shirley M. Bray of Mechanicsville, MD; grandchildren Abigail R. Bray, Patricia Hall and Joyce Sims. In addition she had two great grandchildren Suzanne Gerlach and Sunday Hetherington.
Family to received friends on Thursday, May 19, 2005 from 10AM to 11AM at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A. 30195 Three Notch Road Charlotte Hall, MD. Interment will be private.

Fern Isabelle Saunders
Fern Isabelle Saunders, 78, of Lexington Park, MD, died on May 8, 2005 in the Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.
Born on January 17, 1927, she was the daughter of the late William Henry Lee and Kate Jeffries Lee. Mrs. Mrs. Saunders worked in housekeeping at George Washington University from 1978 to 1988. She moved to St. Mary’s County in 2002.
She is survived by three daughters, Tawanda Fenwick of Lexington Park, MD, Marguita Smith of Frederick, MD, Rosa Nolan of Mechanicsville, MD, three sons, Audwin Saunders of Cheverly MD, Andre Saunders of Washington, D.C., Wayne Saunders of Temple Hills, MD, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billie Grim Saunders, in September 2002, a son, Kevin Saunders and a sister, Jean Bing.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 14, 2005 from 10; 00 a.m. until 11; 00 a.m. in the Callaway Congregation of Jehovah Witnesses. A Funeral Service will be conducted 11; 00 a.m. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Maryland Veterans cemetery in Cheltenham, MD.

Sherman Lee Robbins
U. S. Air Force Veteran
Sherman Lee Robbins of Hughesville, Maryland died at his home on Sunday, May 8, 2005. He was 67 years old.
Born February 3, 1938 In Dunkard Township, Pennsylvania to the late Martha K. and Guy W. Robbins. Mr. Robbins served in the U. S. Air Force from 1955 to 1958 before being Honorably Discharged as an Airman Third Class. He was a concrete finisher by trade who loved hunting. He was also a big fan of NASCAR Racing (Bill Elliott #9) and the Orioles baseball team. He was a member of the Catholic faith and St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Benedict, Maryland.
He is survived by his wife Barbara L. Robbins of Hughesville, MD; daughter Karen Cawthon of Mount Holly, NJ; son Adam Robbins of Dilliner, PA; stepsons Mark and Luke Trevathan of Hughesville, MD; sisters Rose Votuc of Louisiana, Janet Duncan of Peru, Indiana, Bonnie Binkley of Lusby, MD and Cheryl Brewer of Dilliner, PA; grandchildren Alicia and Nathan Cawthon of Mount Holly, NJ.
