Edward Perry Meyers
U. S. Navy WWII Veteran
Edward Perry Meyers, 80 of Lexington Park, MD died on Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, Maryland.
Born on December 14, 1924 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Harry James and Ethel Roosevelt Willingham Meyers.
He served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946, where he was then honorably discharged. He then worked as a service mechanic and supervisor.
He is survived by his wife, Florence H. Meyers, Lexington Park, MD, one son, David Perry Meyers, and two grandsons, Ethan David Meyers and Ian Perry Meyers, all of Davidsonville, MD.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 16, 2005 from 9; 00 a.m. to 11; 00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 46707 Shangri-la Drive, Lexington Park, MD 20653. A Funeral Service will follow at 11; 00 a.m. also at the church. Pastor Stephen Updegrave will officiate. Interment will be Monday, May 16, 2005 at Maryland Veterans cemetery, Cheltenham, MD, at 2; 00 p.m.
Memorial contributions can be made the to the Trinity Lutheran Church, 46707 Shangri-la Drive, Lexington Park, MD 20653.

Jeanna Diehl
Jeanna Gooslin Diehl, 34, of Lothian, Maryland died Saturday, May 14, 2005. Jeanna was born on October 27, 1970 in Texas. Jeanna is survived by her loving husband Robert Diehl, children, Jacob and Kristin Diehl, parents, Robert and Ruthann Gooslin, brother, Gene Gooslin, and her sister, Kim Vernen.
Visitation will be held at the Lee Funeral Home Calvert, 8125 Southern Maryland Blvd. (Route 4 & Fowler Road), Owings, Maryland, on Thursday, May 19, 2005 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. where a service will be held on Friday, May 20, at 11; 00am with Deacon Jack Etzel officiating. Interment to follow at Southern Memorial Gardens in, Dunkirk, Maryland.

Doris Regina Woodland
Doris Regina Woodland, 64, of Mechanicsville, Maryland died on May 12, 2005 at Gladys Spellman Nursing Center, Hyattsville, Maryland.
Born on May 2, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Eugene and Mary Rebecca Key Holt.
Mrs. Woodland is survived by her husband, Paul Vincent Woodland of Mechanicsville, MD, six sons, Paul Holt of Charlestown, WV, David Woodland of Mechanicsville, MD, Daniel Woodland of Stone Mountain, GA, Anthony Woodland of Mechanicsville, MD, Perry Woodland of Landover, MD, and Myron Woodland of Lexington Park, MD, brother John E. Key of Baltimore, MD and sister Mary Lorretta Harris of Waldorf, MD, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Reed.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 20, 2005 from 10; 00 a.m. to 11; 00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 28297 Old Village Road, Mechanicsville, MD 20659. Mass of Christian Burial will follow. Reverend Peter Alliata will officiate. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD.
Funeral Arrangements were provided by the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., Leonardtown, MD.

John Wesley Holley
John Wesley Holley, 89, of Ridge, MD, died on May 22, 2005 at his residence.
Born on January 1, 1916 in Charles County, MD, he was the son of the late Lewis and Lilly Stewart Holley.
Mr. Holley was a driver for the Schmidt Baking Company. He was a member of the Knights of St. Jerome and the Knights of Columbus, a member of the St. Peter Claver Men’s Choir and the NAACP.
He is survived by three daughters, Celeste V. Holley of Baltimore, MD, Veronica D. Holley-Hill of Ridge, MD, Jacqueline J. Holley-Kennedy of Baltimore, MD and a son, John C. Holley of Baltimore, MD and Ridge, MD. in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine M. Biscoe Holley on August 7, 1993.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 28, 2005 from 9; 00 a.m. until 10; 30 a.m. in St. Peter Claver Church, Ridge, MD with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10; 30 a.m. The Reverend Damian Shadwell will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Alfred Lawrence Hasel
Alfred Lawrence Hasel, Sr., 87, of Chaptico, MD, died on May 18, 2005 in St. Mary’s Hospital, Leonardtown, MD.
Born on October 30, 1917 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late John Joseph Hasel and Margurite Scanlon Hasel. Mr. Hasel was a salesman for the Wonder Bread Company retiring after 20 years of service. He was a member of the Landmark Masonic Lodge #127 AF & AM for 60 years, Baltimore Forest #45 Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Teamster Union #639 and the Izaak Walton League.
He is survived by his wife Lottie Schuhart Hasel of Chaptico, MD, a son Alfred Lawrence Hasel, Jr. and his wife Susie of Mechanicsville, MD, two grandchildren, Michael Hasel and his wife Stefanie of Chaptico, MD, Ann Hasel of Mechanicsville, MD, one great grandson, Christopher Hasel of Chaptico, MD, and a brother, Col. Wilbert Travers of White Hall, MD.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 22, 2005 from 3; 00 p.m. until 5; 00 p.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. in Leonardtown, MD. A Funeral Service will be conducted on Monday, May 23, 2005 at 11; 00 a.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Dale Skurla, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Charlotte Hall, MD, will conduct the service. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart cemetery, Bushwood, MD.

Chief Petty Officer Patrick N. Stanley
U.S. Navy Viet Nam War Veteran
Chief Petty Officer Patrick N. Stanley, US Navy (Ret), of Lexington Park, MD died on Monday, May 16, 2005.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland on September 5 1934, he was the son of the late Dianna Stanley.
Chief Stanley entered the Navy on March 27, 1952, which commenced his Naval career with 12 weeks of “boot” training in Bainbridge, Maryland. His first assignment was with the Security Department in Norfolk, Virginia, where he was designated an Airman. In 1954 he was transferred to VR-24, stationed in Port Lyantey, Africa, where he started his aviation career flying C-54’s as a flight attendant. Upon becoming a Petty Officer Third Class, he flew in the position of Flight Mechanic.
In early 1956, Chief Stanley reported to VX-1, home based in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He was assigned to the Test and Evaluation of the Landing Signal Mirror System. This Project included duty on the USS RANDOLF, one of the largest aircraft carriers at that time.
In November 1956, he reported to VW-2, Patuxent River, Maryland. Six months later he made Petty Officer Second Class and attended Flight Engineer School. He earned his Aircrew men Wings and for the next twelve years flew with the Early Warning Community which included VW-2, VQ-2and AEW T.U. He flew out of Iceland, Greenland, Spain, Africa, and all over Europe.
Commissioning Oceanographic Air Survey Unit in 1964, Chief Stanley became an instructor for both pilots and aircrew men training for the C121 Super Constellation. He attended Aviation Machinist Mate School in Memphis, Tennessee and on completion advanced to Chief Petty officer and was assigned to VXN-8 flying Project Blue Eagle, which operated in south East Asia. Chief Stanley did two tours in Saigon and one in Da Nang, flying the C121 T.V. aircraft; He received the Air Medal with two gold stars during this two-year tour of duty. During his assignment with VXN-8 he assumed the responsibility of conducting the C121 School and later became the Aircraft Naval Air Training the Operating Procedures and Standardization Program Evaluator for the Navy. With the Discontinuation of the school, Chief Stanley was assigned the Night Check Maintenance Chief. The Last year of his career he was assigned as the Training Department Supervisor and given the responsibility of initiating a training program seeking all available schools to assist and complement a highly technological force. He also initiated the Personal Qualification Standard Program and assisted in the formation of the Aircrew men-training Syllabus.
In the 24 years of military services, Chief Stanley earned, along with the Air Medal with two gold stars, the Meritorious Unit Commendations (2nd award), Good Conduct (6th award), Navy Expeditionary (Cuba) 2nd award) Vietnam Service Medal (3rd award), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Meritorious Unit Commendation Civil Nation Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
In his off duty hours, Chief Stanley was active holding executive positions in his religious originations. He became a member of the Fleet Reserve #93 in January 1974 and was a member of Elks Lodge #2092 for over 30 years where he was a Past Exalted Ruler. He directed Sunday school and adult/classes, worked with the little leagues baseball, and other youth activities and a C.A.S.A., (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteer from June of 2002 until 2005. He will be remembered for his generous heart, sprit, and love of kids.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Gloria Jean Stanley of Lexington Park, MD, two daughters, Margaret M. Billings of Great Mills, MD, Patricia J. Rowand of Lexington Park, MD, two sons, Patrick N. Stanley, Jr. of California, MD, Michael J. Stanley of Lexington Park, MD and nine grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD on Friday, May 20, 2005 from 5 to 8 p.m. with an Elks Memorial Service by B.P.O. E. Lodge # 2092 at 7; 00 p.m.
A Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2005 at 11; 00 a.m. in the Patuxent River Assembly of God Church, 45020 Patuxent Beach Road, California, MD.
Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans cemetery, Cheltenham, MD on Monday, May 23, 2005 at 3; 00 p.m.

John R. Keller, Jr.
John Raymond Keller, Jr. 46, of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland died Thursday, May 19, 2005 at Calvert Memorial Hospital. He is the son of the late Frances S. and John Raymond Keller, Sr. and loving friend of Ron Norman. He is also survived by two sisters, Lisa Keller and Mary Bernhard, her husband Robert, four nephews and a great nephew.
Mr. Keller moved to Chesapeake Beach 2 1/2 years ago from the Washington, DC area. He worked as an estimator for Snelling and Snelling Commercial Contractors. He was treasurer of Prince George’s Jaycees, enjoyed gourmet cooking, interior design, water and snow skiing and generally being outdoors. His family and friends will always remember John as a prankster and for his practical jokes. Funeral services were held on Monday, May 23, 2005 at St. James Parrish, Lothian, Maryland with the Reverend Eileen House officiating.

Elizabeth Roussillon Bednarik,
Elizabeth Roussillon “Betty” Bednarik, 61, of St. Inigoes, MD died on May 19, 2005 at her home in St. Inigoes. Born May 30, 1943 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert Andrew and Leona Mae Mauk Roussillon. She was the loving wife of Russell Joseph Bednarik whom she married on October 12, 1961. She is survived by her children, Rusty and his wife, Debbie, of Lusby, MD and Linda Irvin and her husband, Joe, of Mechanicsville, MD. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Katie, Andi, RJ, and Danielle and great-grandchildren Harley and Kelsie. She was preceded in death by her son, Ron. Mrs. Bednarik was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary’s Chapel in Ridge, MD. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 22, 2005 from 5; 00-7; 00 PM with Prayers at 6; 00PM in St. Mary’s Chapel, Ridge, MD where a Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 23, 2005 with Father Ball officiating. Interment will be private. Contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Parish, 47444 Trinity Church Road, St. Mary’s City, MD 20686

Kent Albert McGraw
US Navy Viet Nam War Veteran
Kent Albert McGraw, LIC USN (Ret), 77, of Great Mills, MD, died on May 25, 2005 in the Virginia Hospital Center, Arlington, VA.
Born on July 3, 1927 in Willamette, OR, he was the son of the late Virgil and Beulah Hancock McGraw. Mr. McGraw served his country in the U.S. Navy for twenty-two years. During his final tour of duty at the Naval Reconnaissance and Technical Support Center, he was assigned to the Printing Branch, Publications Division, Technical Services Department. Upon transfer to the Fleet Reserve, he climbed the ladder of advancement. His duty assignments included such ships and assignments as the USS SUMNER (AGS-36); USS PORTAGE (PCE-902); Commander- 14th Naval District; Commander-Service Forces, Pacific Fleet, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; Naval Air Station, Moffett Field, Sunnydale, CA; Communications Station, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; USS BRYCE CANYON (AD-30), Navy and Marine Publicity Bureau, Philadelphia, PA; USS ESTES (AGC-12); Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, MD; USS KITTY HAWK (CVA-63) and Naval Support Activity, Saigon, Republic of Viet Nam. His hobbies were wood working, fishing, camping and drinking a few beers.
Mr. McGraw is survived by two daughters, Belinda G. Hooker of Hughesville, MD, Carol A. Bain of Frederick, MD, two sons, Albert K. McGraw and Daniel L. McGraw both of Great Mills, MD, eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. In Addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Neva Anna McGraw on June 21, 1979.
The family will receive friends on June 2, 2005 from 6; 00 p.m. until 8; 00 p.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. in Leonardtown, MD. A Prayer Service will be conducted at 7; 00 p.m. Interment will be on June 17, 2005 in Arlington National cemetery at 3; 00 p.m.

Willard Elton Wood
WWII U.S. Navy Veteran
Willard Elton Wood, 82 of Leonardtown, MD died at his home on Saturday, May 28, 2005.
Born January 6, 1923 in Weston, Ohio, he was the son of the late Thomas Byron and Maude Craft Wood.
Mr. Wood was a U.S. Navy veteran. After leaving the service he was employed at General Motors as a disc brake inspector and later worked at the Harry Lundeberg School of Seamanship in the security department retiring in 1988.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Marie (Polly) Wood and one sister, Ethel Baer of Toledo, Ohio. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille Austin, Mary Louise Lareau and June Wood and five brothers, Donald, Oliver, Stanley, Arthur and Benton Wood.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 31, 2005 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD. A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, June 1 at 11; 00 a.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Bruce Wietzke, pastor of Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church, Hollywood, will officiate. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens with John Meyers, Willard Sipiells, John Baran, John Crawford, James Kopishke, Thomas Sanger, Tom Croson and Donald Cryer serving as pallbearers.

John Francis Dyson
John Francis Dyson, 39, of Mechanicsville, Maryland died on Friday, May 27, 2005 in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Born on November 28, 1965 in Leonardtown, Maryland he was the son of the late Francis F. Green and Mary Elizabeth Dyson.
He is survived by two, sisters Barbara Ann Dyson of Baltimore, MD and Gloria Ann Dyson of Mechanicsville, MD and one brother William E. Dyson of Mechanicsville, MD.
He was predeceased by one brother George Leo Dyson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 3, 2005 at 10; 00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Morganza, MD.
Interment will follow in the Queen of Peace cemetery, Helen, MD.

Michael Eugene Estep, Sr.
Michael Eugene Estep, Sr. departed from this life on February 3, 2005. He was born to the late Charles R. and Ruth E. Johnson Estep on January 28, 1958 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, Maryland.
Mike’s love for sports began at an early age, playing baseball for St. Mary’s County Recreation and Parks. He continued to grow as an athlete lettering in several varsity sports at Chopticon High School including football, basketball and track. He graduated in 1977 and enlisted in the United States Army. In 1978 he married his high school sweetheart, Faye Somerville. Mike and his family were stationed at Hunter Army Airfield-Savannah, Georgia and later in Friedberg, Germany. Upon his return to Maryland, Mike gained employment with the State Highway Administration, Embassy Dairy and most recently SMECO. His athletic spirit led him to participate in many different softball, baseball, and basketball leagues within the tri-county area. On the day of his passing Mike was doing what he enjoyed- playing basketball with the 40 and over league in Calvert County. He also coached Recreation & Parks girl’s basketball from 1994 to 2002. In the spring of 2001, he began coaching the local area AAU boy’s basketball team, “Tri-County Hoopsters”. Mike also was the assistant boy’s basketball coach at St. Mary’s Ryken High School. He was just as dedicated to God as he was to sports. Mike began his spiritual walk at Gospel Tabernacle of Prayer Church in Clements, Maryland where he served on the Usher Board. It wasn’t long before he earned the title, “Minister” and to many youth “Mentor”- leading others to Christ. For many years, he faithfully served as the Southern Maryland Coordinator for Prison Fellowship. Most recently, he attended Chancellor’s Run Road Church of God.
Mikes leaves to cherish his memories; his wife Faye- four children; Michele, Diethra, Nichole and MJ-three brothers; Charles, Lawrence and David- ten sisters-in-laws; Joan, Gladys and Wilma Estep, Sharon and Stephanie Briscoe, Bernadette Coleman, Carmen Burke, Renee Fox, Tonya Short, and Laryssa Somerville-nine brothers-in-laws; Robert and George Briscoe, Ed Coleman, Michael and Mark Somerville, Brent Burke, Carleton Fox, Ray Short, and John Thomas-a father and mother-in-law; James and Helen Somerville; four aunts; Bertha Johnson, Margaret Smoak, Dorothy Dent, and Gladys Johnson- three uncles; Michael and Gary Estep and Carl Burrell- two God children; Sade Herbert and Layton Johnson- and a few people very dear to his heart; Sheila and Russell Coates, Russell Terrell Reeves and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his sister Charlotte E. Thomas and four brothers James, Louis, Joseph, and Rodney.
The family extends their heartfelt appreciation for all of your prayers, love and support during their time of mourning. May God bless you.

A Funeral Service will be conducted on Friday, February 11, 2005 at 11 a.m. at The Gospel Tabernacle of Prayer Church. The Reverend Leroy McDuffie will be officiating.
