Patrick Earl Beveridge, 66, of La Plata died March 18, 2005, at St. Mary's Hosptial, St. Mary's County. Mr. Beveridge graduated from Washington Jefferson College in PA. He enjoyed doing cross word pizzles and was an avid reader. He enjoyed triva game shows and watching sports on T.V. He belonged to two bowling teams, he was very active in church and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a mathmetician/ statistician. He was retired from Department of the Navy working with DCS Corp. at Pax River. Born October 15, 1938 in Richeyville, Pa., he was the son of the late Earl Beveridge and the late Elizabeth Beveridge. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Geroge Beveridge. He is survived by his wife, Karyl E. Beveridge of La Plata; son, Michael Christopher and his wife, Kimberly Ann; daughter, Jennifer Lee Fuchs and her husband, Kevin; sister-in-law, Helen Beveridge; five grandchildren, Samantha Ann Brown, Emilee Marie Beveridge, Diana Catherine Reulet, Melanie Alyse Reulet and Anthony James Reulet; and many relatives and friends. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 22 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with prayers at 7 p.m. at Arehart-Echolds Funeral Home, La Plata. Services will be Wednesday, March 23 at 10; 30 a.m. at La Plata United Methodist Church, La Plata. The Rev. Edward Voorhaar will officiate. Burial will be take place at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf. Pallbearers will be Jim Vance, Ken Bailey, Ed McKenize, John Curtis, Mark Horton and Jim Salyers. Honorary Pallbearers will be, Garland Ott, Chuck Phillips, Gerry Whiteside, Roland Hower, Joseph Barnette and Mark Curtis. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association.

Mary Agnes Handley
Mary Agnes Handley, 83, of St. Clement Shores, MD formerly of Silver Spring, MD died March 22, 2005 in St. Clement Shores, MD. Born October 24, 1921 in Washington, DC she was the daughter of the late Genevieve Cecilia Gannon and Robert Francis Handley, Sr. She is survived by her sister; Genevieve H. Howell of St. Clement Shores, MD; nephews; Herbert M. Howell, III, Leo Edward Howell, Robert F. Handley, III, Leo Edward Handley and William “Bee” Handley and niece; Genevieve Howell Taylor. She was preceded in death by her brothers; Robert F. Handley, Jr. and Leo Edward Handley. Ms. Handley was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School Class of 1938. She moved to St. Mary’s County from Silver Spring, MD in 1981. She was employed by the Brick Layers International Union for 35 years as an Administrative Assistant to the President until her retirement in January of 1980. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 28 in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home from 5; 00 – 8; 00 PM with prayers being said at 7; 00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10; 00 AM on Tuesday, March 29 in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Compton, MD with Father John Mattingly officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brian R. Taylor, Tim Howell, Kevin Howell, Charles H. Adams, III, Josh Mangold and Jeff Blake. Contributions may be made to Leonardtown Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 299, Leonardtown, MD 20650 and/or St. Francis Xavier Church, 21370 Newtown Neck Road, Compton, MD 20627. Mary Margaret Armsworthy
Mary Margaret Armsworthy, 98, of Hollywood, MD died March 17, 2005 in Leonardtown, MD. Born February 17, 1907 in Great Mills, MD she was the daughter of the late George and Mary Burris Langley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Armsworthy on May 31, 1954. Mrs. Armsworthy is survived by her daughter Mildred Jones of Hollywood, MD and grandchildren, Michael E. Jones and Barbara Jones Snavely of Hollywood, MD; Patricia Jones Stout of Myrtle Beach, SC; Lisa Jones Price of Yellow Springs, WV; and, Jeffery S. Jones and David P. Jones of Leonardtown, MD. Surviving also are her great-grandchildren; Heidi, Sarah and David Quade; Joann Quade Lebeaux; Melissa Garrison; Heather, Crystal and Mike Jones, Jr.; Ryan Jones; Amy and April Russell; Gary Spalding; and, Lauren Jones; and, her great-great-grandchildren ; Jasmine, Brianna and Kelvin Lebeaux; Deamonte Lacey; Gavon Jones; and, Kandace Russell. Mrs. Armsworthy was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Christopher Jones, her great-great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Lebeaux and her sister, Helen Langley. She was a life-long St. Mary’s County resident and enjoyed quilting as a hobby. Prayers were said for Mrs. Armsworthy on March 21, 2005 in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on March 22, 2005 in St. John’s Catholic Church with Father Ray Schmidt officiating. Pallbearers for Mrs. Armsworthy were Gary Stout, Ryan Jones, Brian Russell, Michael Price, Sr., Michael Price, Jr. and Jeffery K. Snavely. Patricia Gragan Dixon
Patricia Gragan Dixon, 79, of Mechanicsville, MD, died on March 18, 2005 at her residence.
Born on October 29, 1925 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ruth Brown Gragan. Mrs. Dixon was a registered nurse. She had worked at St. Mary’s Hospital and worked as a nurse for Dr. Guyther. She worked for the St. Mary’s County Health Department and was a family nurse after her retirement from the health department.
Mrs. Dixon is survived a daughter, Deborah Ann Meagher of Mechanicsville, MD, a granddaughter, Sarah Kathleen Meagher, and two brothers, David Edward Gragan of Pittsburgh, PA and Philip Arthur Gragan of Washington, DC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Frank Dixon in 1995, and a sister, Helen Reta Gragan.
The family received friends on Monday, March 21, 2005 in the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. in Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, March 22, 2005 in St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church in Hollywood, MD. The Reverend Ray Schmidt was the celebrant. Interment followed in the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church cemetery, Mechanicsville, MD.
Serving as pallbearers were David Gragan, Michael Gragan, Stephen Gragan, Raymond Dixon, James Dixon and Steve Rodine.

Carolyn Sue Jacobs, 55, of Loveville, MD died March 26, 2005 in the St. Mary's Nursing Center. Born May 20, 1949, she was the daughter of James Elwood and Freeda Alderman Gragan. A full obituary will appear at a later date.

Joseph Roger Morgan Sr.
Joseph Roger Morgan Sr., 91, of Bushwood died March 22, 2005, at his residence.
Born July 18, 1913, in Clements, he was the son of the late Joseph Columbus Morgan and Margaret Farrell Morgan.
He was the husband of Agnes Gwynette Hayden Morgan, whom he married Sept. 7, 1936, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Morganza. In addition to his wife of 68 years, he is survived by nine of his 10 children; Joseph R. Morgan Jr. (and wife Sevgi) of Bellflower, Calif., Joan Phyllis Lincoln (and husband Charles) of Waldorf, James R. Morgan (and wife Clara) of Loveville, Peggy Ann English (and husband Tim) of Oak Harbor, Wash., Gloria Jean Morgan of Anaheim, Calif., Sylvia Sayrd-Mullins (and husband Dale) of Fox Lake, Wisc., Mary Lou Borge of Philadelphia, J. Wayne Morgan (and wife Cindy) of Mechanicsville and Charles D. Donnie Morgan (and wife Annette) of Hollywood. He is also survived by 31 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Stanley Morgan and Dory Morgan; his sisters, Catherine Burch, Josephine Morgan and Mazie Mattingly; and his daughter, Glenda Ann Morgan.
Mr. Morgan was a farmer and waterman for most of his adult life, but was best known in the 7th District as a counter clerk and seafood truck driver for Capt. Sam's in Bushwood for more than 20 years.
He was a parishioner of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Avenue and was a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, as well as a member of the St. Mary's County Farm Bureau and Maryland Farm Bureau. His favorite pastimes included playing cards (especially pitch), dancing and playing bingo.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 28, at the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home in Leonardtown, with prayers recited at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, March 29, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Avenue with the Rev. Monsignor John B. Brady officiating. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart cemetery in Bushwood with Justin Morgan, Jeff Morgan, Jared Morgan, Chris Morgan, Glenn Morgan and Keith Lincoln serving as pallbearers.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary's, P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650.

Evelyn Joan Martin
US Navy WWII Veteran
Evelyn Joan Martin, 87, of Leonardtown, MD, died on Saturday, January 22, 2005 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Leonardtown, MD.
Born on October 2, 1917 in Georgiaville, RI, she was the daughter of the late Clovis Trembley and the late Eva Gledu.
Mrs. Martin was a 1943 graduate of the Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse, and a member of the Rhode Island Hospital Nurse Alumni Association. Mrs. Martin was a commissioned officer in the United States Navy serving in the World War II effort. Her first tour of duty at San Diego Naval Hospital is where she met and married her husband, a naval physician in 1944. After her honorable discharge in 1944, she returned to her home state of Rhode Island where she was employed as the school nurse for the Johnston School District awaiting her husband’s return home from the war to start a private medical practice in Greenville, RI which they owned and operated for seven years. In 1953 they agreed to close the practice where she followed her husband who had rejoined the Navy as a pilot and flight surgeon to many various duty stations throughout the years. Mrs. Martin was beloved and well known for her sharp wit, her gourmet cooking and entertaining skills, and was an avid collector of dolls and an extremely talented designer and seamstress of doll clothing, often raffling her doll crafts for the benefit of the local catholic churches.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years Dr. Richard James Martin of Leonardtown, MD and her children Brian Richard Martin of Miami, FL; Jacqueline Mary Martin of Collegeville, PA; and Robin Joan Riordon of Atascadero, CA. She is also survived by her siblings Henry Trembley, Yvonne Trembley, and L’or McDonald all of Greenville, RI; her three grandchildren Kelly Riordon, Kevin Riordon, Stephanie Olekszak and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her siblings Clovis Trembley, Jr., Robert Trembley, Warren Dexter Trembley, Beatrice Cogswell, and Irene Manzi.
The family will receive friends at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. 22955 Hollywood Rd., Leonardtown, MD on Wednesday, January 26, 2005 from 4; 00 – 7; 00 p.m. with prayers at 5; 00 p.m. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 27, 2005 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Leonardtown, MD at 10; 00 a.m. with the Rev. Rory Conley officiating and accompanied by the homilist and longtime family friend and confidant Rev. John Mattingly. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Aloysius Catholic Church P.O. Box 310 Leonardtown, MD or the Alzheimer’s Association, Southern Maryland Office, P.O. Box 1889, LaPlata, MD 20646.

John J. O' Grady
John J. O’Grady, 90, of Hollywood, MD, died on Thursday, January 20, 2005 in St. Mary’s Nursing Center, Leonardtown, MD.
Born on June 19, 1914 in Cambridge, MA, he was the son of the late John and Elizabeth Maloney O’Grady. He worked as a dental technician at the Tullock Dental Laboratory in Boston, MA, manager of Jacob Wirth’s Restaurant in Boston, MA, member of customer affairs at the state house in Boston, member of the Brighton Knights of Columbus and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and past president of the Massachusetts Football Referee Association in Allston, MA.
He is survived by his wife Mary Josephine Hughes O’Grady of Hollywood, MD, a son, Kevin Francis O’Grady of Hollywood, MD, three grandchildren, one step grandchild and two sisters, Madelyn Frechette and Irene Porter both of Boston, MA.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 27, 2005 from 10; 30 a.m. until 11; 00 a.m. in St. John’s Catholic Church, Hollywood, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11; 00 a.m. in St. John’s Church. The Reverend Ray Schmidt will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Alice Ruth Shepherd
Alice Ruth Shepherd, 74, of Callaway died Saturday, January 22, 2005 at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.
Born June 25, 1930 in Mayo, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late James and Harriett Stewart.
Mrs. Shepherd was married to her husband Joe Shepherd for 56 years. He passed away in November of 2003. She enjoyed her many years with him as a Navy wife and their years in retirement. She was a Charter Member of the Callaway Baptist Church and served the Lord faithfully there for over 37 years. She trusted in God and found great joy in teaching Bible study classes and singing hymns of His matchless grace.
Mrs. Shepherd is survived by three daughters, Mary Cumers and her husband John of Mechanicsville, Ruth Byrd and her husband Joe Mel of Pocomoke, Barbara Capulli and her husband Dan of Plano, Texas; two sons, Ronnie Shepherd of Carlsbad, California, Arthur Shepherd and his wife Linda of Bushwood, and nine grandchildren. She was the sister of Mary Martin of Virginia, Reafer Stewart of Virginia, Joseph Stuart of Pennsylvania, Mack Stewart of Virginia, and the late Talmadge Stewart, Willard Stewart, Woodlee Stewart, and Lessie Stewart.
The family will receive friends Friday, January 28 from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Brinsfield Funeral Home in Leonardtown. A funeral Service will be conducted Saturday January 29 at 11; 00 a.m. at Callaway Baptist Church. Pastor Daniel Moore will conduct the service. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers for Mrs. Shepherd will be Moses Shepherd, Jimmy Shepherd, Harold Shepherd, Keith Shepherd, Noel Shepherd, Cecil Shepherd, Arthur Shepherd, Richard Shepherd, and Dwight Stewart.

Marca Elizabeth Kerr
Marca Elizabeth Kerr, 86, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, a resident of Cedar Lane Senior Citizens Apartments, Leonardtown, MD, passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2005 in St. Mary’s Nursing Center, Leonardtown, MD.
Born on July 18, 1918 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Luther Greaver. She was a graduate of Eastern High School, Washington, D.C. and was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Emory Russell Kerr of Leonardtown, MD formally of Greenbelt, MD, whom she married on April 18, 1942, , a son, Michael R. Kerr and his wife Linda of Great Mills, MD, a grandson, David Polikoff and his wife Cindy and a great granddaughter, Anya Elizabeth Polikoff.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 28, 2005 from 10; 00 a.m. until 11; 00 a.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. in Leonardtown, MD. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11; 00 a.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home chapel. The Reverend Maurice O’Connell will conduct the service.
Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Catholic Church cemetery in Ridge, MD

David Wilson
US Navy WWII Veteran
David Wilson, 91, of Leonardtown, MD died January 25, 2005 in St. Mary’s Hospital. He died peacefully with his granddaughters at his side. Mr. Wilson was born February 2, 1913 in Philadelphia, PA to the late David and Margaret Perry Wilson. He was the loving husband of the late Catherine Marie Wilson. He is survived by his son David Wilson and his wife Joan Ann of California, MD, grandchildren Stephen C. Wilson and his wife Beverly, Angela T. Martin and her husband John of Hollywood, MD, Kathleen K. DeRoche and her husband David of Oakville, and great-grandchildren Beth, Jonathan, Kassie, Adam and Ben Martin, Andrea and Erin DeRoche and David, Joan-Ann and Maria Wilson. He is also survived by his sister Anna DeMarco and brother James Wilson of Philadelphia, PA. He was preceded in death by his grandson Brian J. Wilson and by his sisters Esther and Margaret Wilson. Mr. Wilson served in the United States Navy during World War II on the Destroyer Escort USS Leland E. Thomas. “Big Pops” later years were brightened by the love of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Wilson returned to Cape May, New Jersey in 1976 after many years as a Teamster in Philadelphia, PA and moved to St. Mary’s County in 2002. He was a member of the Moose and a member of the Destroyer Escort Sailors Association. All services were private.

Services; A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 1 at 10; 00 AM in Our Lady's Catholic Church in Medley's Neck, Leonardtown, MD with Father John Barry officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens.
Visitation; Public Viewing will be held in the the Mattingley-Gardiner funeral home Monday, January 31 from 5 - 8 PM with prayers being said at 7 PM.
