Beloved husband of the late Sue and Florence McGrath; father of Mary Ann Lira, John Francis McGrath, Patrick Dempsey McGrath, Anita Louise Coleman, and the late Paul Mcgrath; grandfather of Andrea and Peter Lira, Brian, Keith, Jowelle, Jazelle McGrath and Emily Coleman. Also survived by three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. MARY LOUISE FLANAGAN
On March 22, 2012, just one day prior to her 94th birthday, Mary Louise left our presence to join her beloved husband, Thomas Mark Flanagan, whom she married April 20, 1944 in Swissvale, PA where they both grew up. Thomas predeceased her in 1968 and she was also predeceased by her siblings, John, Charles and Ruth. She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Louise “Marlie” Flanagan Bauer, son-in-law, Joe and their sons, Nicholas and Vladimir, of Martinsburg, WV and Susan Jean Flanagan of Lanham, MD; and her son, T. Mark Flanagan Jr., his wife, Patricia Paterno-Flanagan, and their children, Timothy and Jennifer of Great Falls, VA. Mary Louise graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a BA in Psychology in 1939. She was a member of the ROTC, The Newman Club and President of her sorority. She would proudly state that, “I never missed one day of school!” She returned for an extra course in Economics after she met her future husband who had a PhD in Economics. She later worked for Boron Oil Company, The National Education Assoc. and was the Administrative Assistant to the Director of NIH for 17 years until her retirement in 1990. She then started her “second career” as a volunteer at Doctors Hospital, Lanham, MD, winning various service awards, including the 10 year record award. She was a remarkable wife, mother, grandmother and friend, a woman with a quick “Irish Smile”, who was very much loved and will be greatly missed. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 27 at Ascension Catholic Church, 12700 Lanham-Severn Road, Bowie, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association, National Capital Area Chapter, 3701 Pender Drive, Suite 400, Fairfax, VA 22030.Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 27 at Ascension Catholic Church, 12700 Lanham-Severn Road, Bowie, MD. CHAD MICHAEL WHITNEY
Chad Whitney, 32, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, beloved son of Michael Whitney of Silver Spring, Maryland and Hope Whitney of Mesa, Arizona, and cherished step-son of Muriel Hesler, passed away suddenly on March 17, 2012. He is survived by his six brothers and sisters, Matthew, Susan, Sanford, Kristen, Erik, and Kimberly; his grandfather, George Matteson; four nephews, one niece, and a large extended family. A graduate of Morgan State University, Chad became a Senior Accountant for Enterprise Car Rental. He was a gifted accountant who pioneered many innovations. Chad was a gentle, loving, and caring young man who touched many lives; the loss is devastating to all who knew him. A service celebrating Chad’s life will be planned at a later time. PATRICIA A. SANZARO
Patricia Woodworth Sanzaro died on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at her home in College Heights Estates, MD. She had been bedridden for the last two and a half years. She was born in Washington, DC on January 15, 1926.
She grew up in the Brookland area of DC and attended St. Anthony’s, Notre Dame Academy and Catholic University’s School of Nursing. She was a nurse at Providence Hospital.
Mrs. Sanzaro is survived by her husband, Dr. Frank Sanzaro; her son, Dr. Frank Sanzaro, Jr. and her daughter-in-law, Kathleen Sanzaro (Tom). Mrs. Sanzaro was predeceased by her son, Dr. Thomas J. Sanzaro and her daughter, Dr. Katherine M. Sanzaro. She is also survived by her sisters, Joan Mullan (Bill) and Geraldine Woodworth; five grandchildren, Karen Sanzaro, Tricia Butler (Biff), Thomas Sanzaro, Jr., Gallia Coles (Michael) and Francis Sanzaro (Christy). Also surviving are five great-grandchildren, Michael, McKinnley and Wesley Coles, Carolina Butler and Amelia Sanzaro.
Relatives and friends may call at St. Mark the Evangelist Church, 7501 Adelphi Road, Hyattsville, MD on Monday, March 26, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment Gate of Heaven cemetery. WILLIAM C. CRANFORD
Of Mitchellville, MD, formerly of Adelphi, MD, died peacefully among his family on Wednesday, March 21, 2012. Bill was the beloved husband of the late Ella June Cranford and father of Jennifer Cranford Lynn, Rosanna L. Tucker, and Paul G. Talbott. He is also survived by four grandchildren, six great grandchildren and other loving family and friends. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday April 7th at 3:30 pm at the boat dock of Collington Life Care Center (Rain Location: Collington Chapel). In keeping with Bill’s style, casual dress is requested .
