PATRICK J. SHANKO (Age 61)
On Friday, December 16, 2011, of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved son of the late Adam and Clare Shanko; brother of Marilou Greenwade, Karen Bennett, the late Roger, Michael, and Joseph Shanko; uncle of Christopher, Matthew and Michael Bennett and Jennifer Hottle. Also survived by sister-in-law, Maureen Shanko and other loving family and friends. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catherine Laboure, Veirs Mill & Claridge Roads, Wheaton, MD, on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 11 a.m. Interment Gate of Heaven cemetery. VINCENT A. PEPPER
passed away on Friday, December 16, 2011. Vince was the founding partner of the prestigious communications law firm of Smith & Pepper, and its successor, Pepper & Corazzini. Representation by the firm included many major radio and television groups together with dominant cable organizations. Vince was counsel and business advisor to the Rounsaville Radio Stations, SCI Television (George Gillett), Busse TV, New World TV, Capstar, Turner Broadcasting Systems (Ted Turner), and Gray Television. Vince was the principal owner of radio stations in Kentucky and cable TV systems in Tennessee and Washington. He served President Ronald Reagan’s administration heading the FCC transition and also served as Senior Advisor on two international broadcasting treaties. He served as General Counsel to the National Association of Media Brokers from its inception in 1985 until March of 2007. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the NAMB in 2003. Vince was very active in the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) during the 1960's and 70's as coach for numerous boys and girls athletic teams for both St. Bernadette’s and St. Peter’s Elementary Schools. For many years he also served as lector at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Olney, Maryland. He was predeceased by his daughter, Suzanne J. Pepper. He is survived by his wife, Donna; his son, Vincent A. Pepper, Jr. and wife, Geanne; his son, Michael A. Pepper, and wife, Diane; his daughter Mary Anne Friedrich, and husband, Mark; his daughter, Terri Pepper Cameron and husband, Donald; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD (Valet Parking) on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 2900 Sandy Spring Road, Olney, MD on Thursday, December 22 at 10 a.m. Entombment Gate of Heaven cemetery. ADEAN MURPHY “Dean” (Age 75)
Peacefully at home on Thursday, December 15, 2011, of Mc Lean, VA. Beloved wife of Steve Murphy and sister of Mary Mack. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Memorial Service to be held at Plymouth, NC at a later date. Interment private. PAUL FRANCIS CAIN
On December 15, 2011, loving husband, father, and grandfather Paul Francis Cain peacefully entered Heaven. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Joan Runion Cain, of Colesville, MD; his children Theresa Argandona (Andrew) of Alexandria, VA; Patricia Cain Pitkin (Douglas) of Washington, DC; and Paul (Christina) of Pasadena, MD; and three grandchildren Ayden, Brendan, and Megan. In addition, he leaves a brother, Joseph Cain (Margaret); a sister, Laura Green (Bob); and 13 nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John J. Cain and Bernard L. Cain and his sister, Sr. Patricia Cain, MM.
Paul was born in Washington, DC and lived in the area his entire life. He graduated from Gonzaga College High School, and received an accounting degree from the Benjamin Franklin School of Accountancy, which later merged with The George Washington University. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, at Ft. Campbell, KY. He became a Certified Public Accountant in 1958. After working for Millard T. Charlton and Associates for several years, he joined Henry M. Witt, Inc. until his semi-retirement in 1999.
Paul stayed active despite health battles over the past few years. He enjoyed traveling with his wife to most of the states east of the Rockies, watching sports, and visits with his family and friends. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Community in Silver Spring, the American Legion, and the Woodridge Club. His family and friends will greatly miss his humor, wisdom, and kindness.

MARY D. BRADY (Age 90) “Dorrie”
On Friday, December 16, 2011, of Hyattsville, MD. Beloved wife of the late Harry G. Brady; mother of Catherine Brady McClave; grandmother of James Harrison and Mary Catherine McClave; sister of Francis E. Stueve. MARIE ELENA McCARTHY (Age 89)
On Thursday, December 15, 2011 of Rockville, MD, formerly of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved wife of the late John J. McCarthy; mother of John J., Thomas C., Eleanor M. and Patricia A. McCarthy; mother-in-law of Maureen McCarthy and Carolyn Steiert; grandmother of Thomas C. McCarthy, II; sister of the late Charles Ruggiero and Elena Kissell. Marie had a long, distinguished career as a teacher at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Bethesda, MD.
