ALICE M., formerly of Wells, died Oct. 5, 1999 in Sanford. Visiting hours 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells. Funeral Mass 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Church, Eldredge Road. Burial in Ocean View Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

LOIS S., died July 16, 1999. Graveside service noon Saturday at Corinna Center Cemetery. Arrangements by Heald Funeral Home, 61 Main St., Springvale.

Donald Ewing

KENNEBUNKPORT -- Donald Graham Ewing, 73, a former resident of Towne St. and Upper Montclair, N.J. died Sunday (listed Wednesday, March 1, 2000) at the Kennebunk Nursing Center in Kennebunk.

He was born on Dec. 18, 1926 in Upper Montclair, the son of Dr. Harvey Milligan and Margaret McLean (Graham) Ewing, graduated from Montclair High School with the Class of 1944 and received his Bachelors degree in Biology from Princeton University in 1948

Mr. Ewing served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He had a successful career in the textile industry in New York City. He later attended Montclair State College where he obtained a degree in education. Mr. Ewing taught special education at the Montclair Public Schools.

He served as an elder at the Presbyterian Church of Upper Montclair where he taught Sunday school. He was active in many community organizations including the Republican Club of Montclair.

An accomplished painter and photographer, Mr. Ewing also enjoyed gardening, fishing and was also an amateur naturalist.

He retired to Kennebunkport with his wife in 1992.

He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara (Hansen) Ewing, in 1997.

Survivors include one son, Robert Craig Ewing of Sedalia, Colo.; one daughter, Sally Ewing Abbott of Acton, Mass.; and three grandchildren Kyle Ross Ewing, David Barnes Graham Abbott and Matthew James Hansen Abbott.

George Forest

SPRINGVALE -- George W. Forrest, 67, of Springvale died suddenly Monday evening (listed Wednesday, March 1, 2000).

Mr. Forrest was born May 25, 1932 in Portland, the son of George and Leora Johnson Forrest, attended Portland schools, andgraduated from Deering H.S. in 1950.

Following graduation he enlisted in the Army and fought in the Korean War.

For many years Mr. Forrest was vice president of the loan department at the Maine National Bank in Portland,

In retirement he worked for the Sanford School district.

Mr. Forrest was a member of the Sanford/Springvale American Legion and the South Portland V. F. W.

Family members say he had a great sense of humor and a natural ability to carry on a conversation with anyone.

Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Fleurette of Springvale; two sons, Robert of Portland and George III of South Portland; two daughters, Susan Turner of West Boylston, Mass. and Andrea Dube of Windham; two stepsons, Gregory Bannon of Sanford, Sean Bannon of S. Portland; a sister, Thelma Bojarczuk of Portland; and 12 grandchildren.

Lester Ireland

SANFORD -- Lester C. Ireland, 70, of Sanford. Fla. and formerly of Sanford died Feb. 6, 2000 in Winter Park, Fla.

He was born April 8, 1929 in Carmel, a son of Lester and Amy Ireland and was educated in Lincoln schools.

He was an Air Force veteran and had lived in Sanford from the late 1950s until the late 1960s when he moved to Sanford, Fla.

For more than 40 years, Mr. Ireland drove a truck.

He was a Baptist and a member of the D.A.V.

Survivors include his wife Gertrude of Sanford, Fla. his mother of Lincoln; three sons, Wayne of Monroe, Mich., Bruce and Terry, both of Sanford, Me. and a stepson, Walter Dubois of Bunkerhill, W. Va.; four daughters, Carol Racklift of Springvale, Nancy Boren of Debary, Fla., Patricia Larose of N. Berwick and Karen Devore of Sanford; four stepdaughters, Patricia, Dubois of Ossipee, N.H., Debra Weldon of Shapleigh, Teresa Valencia of Orlando, Fla., and Carollee Paster of Sanford; two brothers Calvin of Lincoln and MiKe Whelpley of Titusville, Fla; a sister Sandra Raymond of Medway; and 17 grandchildren.

Donald LaPointe

KENNEBUNK -- Donald E. LaPointe Sr, 81, of Haley's Woods Lane, died Monday (listed Wednesday, March 1, 2000) at Kennebunk Nursing & Rehabilitation after a long illness.

Mr. LaPointe was born July 15, 1918 in Haverhill, Mass., the son of George and Albertine (Dionne) LaPointe, and attended Haverhill schools.

He was a WW II Veteran, serving in the US Army.

Mr. LaPointe was employed for 15 years with Microfab in Amesbury, Mass., making printed circuit boards. He retired in 1976.

He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and making things with his hands. After his retirement, Mr. LaPointe and his wife enjoyed visiting flea markets and also selling items at flea markets.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Phylis Chase LaPointe of Kennebunk; two sons, Donald E. Jr. of Kennebunk and David of Las Vegas, Nev., a daughter, Michele Kirby, of Portland; two sisters, Alice Key of Wells and Irene Borden of Kennebunk; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Helen Levine

BIDDEFORD -- Helen N. Levine, 93, formerly of York Manor in Biddeford, died Thursday (listed Wednesday, March 1, 2000) at her home in Westbrook. She was born in Bangor on Jan. 26, 1907, a daughter of Myer J. and Lena Fannie Berezkis Levine and was educated in Bangor, Boston, and Auburn schools.

Miss Levine was employed in the Portland area for several years and last worked for the Salvation Army in Portland, retiring in 1969 at the age of 62.

In retirement, she stayed home to care for her mother.

Miss Levine enjoyed sewing and caring for children.

She is survived by a brother, George Levine of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

Alton Myers

WATERBORO -- Alton W. Myers, 67, and a former Waterboro business operator died Feb. 26, 2000 at a Bridgton healthcare facility.

He was born May 24 in Portland a son of William H. and Barbara Cutler Myers and was educated in Portland.

He received a Golden Gloves Boxing Championship award in 1949.

He was an Army veteran, involved with the Mountain Climbing Division, stationed in Austria in the early 1950s.

He had worked for many years for Dixie Hendrix Monument Co. in Auburn. Active in the construction industry, he operated North Star-Polaris, Inc., in Waterboro until his retirement in 1994.

Playing guitar since age 10, he played in several local bands and entertained with Ken MacKenzie, Dick Curless, Don Reno and Bill Ankatell. Fond of bluegrass music, he often opened his home to participants of bluegrass events.

He collected rare instruments, and antique records and contributed to the Dixie flyer and National Mountain Railroader publication in Knoxville, Tenn. He enjoyed gourmet cooking, World War II history, and was an amateur sound engineer.

Survivors include his wife, Daveen of Waterford; sons Kevin of Waterford, Joseph Brown of Norway; four daughters, Shana of Waterford, Mary Elsea, Pam Wilson, both of Toledo, Ohio, Rebecca Marston of Andover; five brothers, Edmond of Mass., Gerry of Riverside, Calif., William of Scarborough, Donald of Cumberland, Benjamin of Lyman; four grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was a member of N.A.V.R.E. and the Family Railroad Organization.

Muriel Phillips

OLD ORCHARD BEACH -- Muriel L. Phillips, 66, of Cascade Road, died Saturday (listed Wednesday, March 1, 2000) at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

She was born in Waltham, Massachusetts, Feb. 28, 1933, a daughter of Howard and Geraldine Comeau Melanson. She attended South Portland schools, graduating from South Portland High School in 1951.

She worked for First National Stores for six years, for a daycare, and then for 10 years as a bookkeeper at His and Her Hair Salon. She was co-owner of Maine Mineral in Old Orchard Beach.

Her hobbies included making jewelry from gems she found and collecting owls. She was an excellent seamstress.

She belonged to the Society of Southern Maine Craftsman, the Maine Mineralogical and Geological Society and the Maine Country Music Association.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Yvette Denise Phillips, 1953.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Robert H. Phillips of Old Orchard Beach; two sons, Bobby Jr. of Biddeford and Raymond of South Portland; one daughter, Yvonne Phillips Shaw of Ocean Park; one brother, Wilfred Melanson of California; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Lorraine Richer

SANFORD -- Lorraine C. Richer, 72, of Pearl St., died Monday evening (listed Wednesday, March 1, 2000) at her home following a long illness.

She was born in Amesbury, Mass., Aug. 24, 1927, a daughter of Russell R. and Katherine Allen Greene, moved to Saco as a child and was educated in Saco schools, graduating from Thorton Academy in 1946.

A homemaker, Mrs. Richer had worked at the former Eastern plastics Co.

Family members say she was a sociable person who enjoyed meeting and befriending people. They also say she would never forget a name when introduced. She enjoyed dining out, watching the birds, and especially loved to be with her grandson, daughters, and family.

After marrying Eugene L. Richer in 1950, she moved from Saco to Sanford.

She was a communicant of St. Ignatius church, and a member of "TOPS" (a weight loss program.)

She was pre-deceased by her husband in 1991 and brothers, Carlton Greene in 1991 and Robert Greene in 1987.

Surviving are two daughters, Gloria Richer of Springvale and Mrs. Michael (Ruth) Hickson of Kennebunk; one brother, James Greene of Sarasota, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Fernald (Dorothy) LaBelle of Wildwood, Fla. and Elinor Greene of Brownfield; a longtime companion Joan Hanscon and a grandson, Samuel Hickson of Kennebunk.

Alice Simoneau

BIDDEFORD -- Alice E. Simoneau, 80, of Chadwick Place, died Monday (listed Wednesday, March 1, 2000) at Southern Maine Medical Center after a brief illness.

She was born in Biddeford on June 7, 1919, a daughter of Luc and Marie Lebel Lizotte and was educated in Biddeford schools.

Mrs. Simoneau was employed over 15 years with the Bates Mfg. Co.

On September 29, 1945, she married Edgar J. Simoneau at St. Andre's Church in Biddeford.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, the Daughters of Isabella and the Jolly Club.

Mrs. Simoneau enjoyed playing cards, doing puzzles, cooking and crocheting.

She was predeceased by her husband on May 12, 1996; two sisters, Yvonne Cabana and Germaine DeSilva; and two brothers, Leo Paul Lizotte and Joseph Lizotte.

Surviving are one son, Leo E. of Biddeford; one daughter, Helen (Mrs. Ronald) Fecteau of Biddeford; one sister, Lucienne Mondor of Saco; a grandson, Scott Simoneau of Biddeford; and several nieces and nephews.
