Shirley Hill

WELLS - Shirley J. Hill, 76, of Branch Road, died May 8, 2003 in Southern Maine Medical Center.

She was born in Morrill, Maine on April 18, 1926, a daughter of Willmon and Mary (Lannigan) Fleming.

She enjoyed reading and music; playing the guitar and singing in earlier years. She especially loved being "Gram" to all of her grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, William Donald Hill in 1976 and a grandson, Michael Hill in 1987.

Surviving are two sons, Donald Hill Jr. of Limerick and Buster Hill of Wells; two daughters, Linda Hilton and Nancy Hussey, both of Wells; two sisters, Viola Curry of Presque Isle and Mary Page of Bangor; six grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Johnson Funeral Home, North Berwick. Interment followed in Ocean View Cemetery, Wells.

Helena Jones

KENNEBUNK - Helena E. (Pillsbury) Jones, 84, passed away on May 11, 2003 at Kennebunk Nursing Center.

A former resident of Portland, Maine, she was born in Benton Station, Maine on July 20, 1918, a daughter of Ralph and Mildred (Brown) Pillsbury. She graduated from Lawrence High School in Fairfield, Maine and attended Colby College and graduated from Thomas College.

She and her husband Lynwood lived in Portland for more than 30 years where they raised their sons and spent their later years in Kennebunkport, Wells, and Ft. Myers, Fla. She was a very devoted and active member of the Stroudwater Baptist Church and later the Kennebunkport Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her sister, Ruth Brown and brothers, Parker, Wallace, and Lawrence Pillsbury.

She is survived by two sons, Winfield S. Jones of Boston and Bruce R. Jones and his wife Joan of Minneapolis, Minn.; two granddaughters, Wendy Wostrel and Julie Rowland; two great-grandsons, Tyler Allen Rowland and Andrew Bruce Rowland; one brother, Ralph B. Pillsbury of Benton; and many nieces and nephews.

Her smile and unconditional love will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

A service will be held today at noon at the Hay and Peabody Funeral Home, 749 Congress St., Portland. Burial will follow in Brooklawn Memorial Park, Congress Street, Portland.

Jennifer Luneau

LYMAN - Jennifer M. Luneau, 27, of Lyman died the morning of May 5, 2003.

She was born in Biddeford on Feb. 6, 1976. She was the daughter of the late Robert Allaine and Ann (Luneau) Perkins. She attended local schools, and worked at Rogers as a cook.

She loved the outdoors, especially trips to the White Mountains. She enjoyed the company of her friends, and often played pool, cribbage or darts. She was a kind-hearted woman that would do anything for others. She will be greatly missed by her family, and many friends.

Surviving is her mother, Ann Perkins, and one sister April Perkins, both of Kennebunk. Also surviving are her grandparents, Robert Luneau, Marge Grover and a special friend, Mike Daigle.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday at Holy Family R.C. Church in Sanford.

Candice McGill

WELLS - On May 8, 2003, Candice Dale (Penney) McGill passed away peacefully, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She died at her parents' home in Moody with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Malden, Mass., on Jan. 10, 1948 and formerly lived in Malden, and Leominster, Mass., before settling in Springvale, Maine.

A former dental assistant for the city of Everett, Mass., she was employed as an administrative professional for the Wells / Moody Chamber of Commerce. Since she spent every summer since her birth in the area, she was a valuable asset to the chamber.

In addition to her parents, William C. and Evelyn Penney of Moody, she leaves her son, Scott S. Iritano and his wife Carole of Wells; one grandson, Ryan Iritano; one brother, William C. Penney Jr. and his wife Debra of North Reading, Mass.; three nephews, Matthew, Gregory and Geoffrey Penney; and many close relatives and friends.

At her request, there will be no service; however, donations in her memory may be made to: Visiting Nurse Service, 15 Industrial Park Rd., Saco, ME 04072-1851. (284-4566).

Richard Monahan

ALFRED - Richard E. Monahan, 77, a resident of Hazel Dell Apartments, Alfred formerly of Kennebunk, died May 8, 2003 at the Maine Medical Center, Portland after a brief illness.

He was born in Sanford on July 1, 1925, a son of Thomas and Carrie (Hanson) Monahan.

He attended Sanford schools and was a World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Navy.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish, enjoyed his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends; he also loved to spend time beside Shaker Pond with extended family and friends; he also enjoyed breakfast every morning at the Alfred Country Store.

He was predeceased by his wife Mildred C. (Hartley) Monahan, who died in 1996.

He is survived by his four daughters Mrs. Jeffery C. (Catherine) Charles of Strong of Maine, Mrs. Ronald J. (Barbara) Berard of Alfred, Mrs. Steven (Christine) Welch of Arundel and Mrs. Kerry (Ellen) Curtis of Wells; nine grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

A funeral was held Monday at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk, with the Rev. Herbert Henry officiating. Private Interment was in Oakdale Cemetery, Sanford.

Robert Ward

WELLS - Robert Royden Ward, 85, of Moody died May 6, 2003.

He was born and raised in Kennebunk, graduated from Hebron Academy and Springfield College. He obtained a master's degree from Springfield College and a Certificate of Advance Study from New York University. He was a former head football coach at Kennebunk High, where he coached an undefeated football team. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II and retired from a life dedicated to education where he served as teacher, coach, principal, and superintendent of schools in Maine and New York.

His long career in education spanned 35 years taking him to Martha's Vineyard, Mass., Kennebunk, Maine, North Adams, Mass., Wantagh, N.Y., West Morris, N.J., Commack, N.Y., Granville, N.Y., and Turner, Maine.

He entered administration in West Morris, N.J. and continued in Commack, N.Y. After two years there he became the chief administrator in Granville, N.Y. where he worked for 10 years. Then he returned to Maine and finished his career as the Superintendent of Schools for School Administrative District 52, which includes Greene, Leeds and Turner.

He and his wife retired to Wells where he lived for 23 years and served on the budget committee and school board.

At the time of his death, he was serving as Trustee Emeritus of Springfield College. He was a dedicated alumnus of Springfield College and was awarded the highest award given to an alumnus, the Edward Norris Tarbell Medallion for Notable Service to Springfield College in 1991.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara of Moody; two sons, Bruce Ward of Gorham, and John Ward of Silver Spring, Md.; two daughters, Kathleen Ward Yde of Chuluota, Fla. and Patricia Ward Costello of Upton, Mass.; one brother, James L. Ward of Kennebunk; and five grandchildren.

A funeral was held Friday at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk, with the Rev. Stephen Hastings officiating. Private Interment was in Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk.

Mae Flaherty, 101

KENNEBUNK - Mae Dunn Flaherty died April 22, 2003 at the age of 101. She had been a resident of Bradford on the Common in Kennebunk for the past three years.

She was born Jan. 6, 1902 in Stamford, Conn., the daughter of the late Catherine (Kane) Dunn and James F. Dunn of Stamford. She was the widow of John F. Flaherty who died in 1975. She was the oldest of seven children which all pre-deceased her.

She was a graduate of Stamford High School. She attended the Traphagen School of Design in New York City and later was employed by Conde Nast Designing Covers for Vogue Patterns. She also led one of the first teams of Volunteers at St. Joseph's Hospital in Stamford, Conn.

She is survived by her daughter, Sheila F. Comerford of Kennebunkport; three grandchildren, Charles J. Comerford, Amy L. Conly and Elizabeth C. Worcester; two great-grandchildren, Emily Gregg Worcester and Anna Dunn Worcester; and several nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate her life was held Saturday at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk with the Rev. Laurent LaPlante officiating the service. Interment will be May 8 at 1 p.m. in St. John's Cemetery, Darien, Conn.

Should friends desire memorials may be made to the Spaulding Youth Center, PO Box 189, Tilton, N.H. 03276 or to the River Tree Arts, 35 Western Ave., Kennebunk, ME 04043 in Mrs. Flaherty's memory.

Charlotte Haas, 93

WELLS - A memorial service was held for Charlotte W. Francis Haas, 93, who passed away Jan. 12, 2003 in Southern Maine Medical Center, on Sunday at the Wells Congregational Church. Interment followed in the Ocean View Cemetery, Wells.

Friends who wish may contribute to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled and Burned Children, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114.

Ruth Johnson, 85

WELLS - Ruth Irene (Bennett) Johnson, 85, a resident of Bourne Avenue, Wells, formerly of Hubbardton, Vt. and Worcester, Mass. died April 27, 2003 after a brief illness.

She was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., March 25, 1918, a daughter of Alfred and Agnes Mary (Hill) Young. She attended schools in Vermont. She was employed with the Norton Company in Worcester, Mass. for more than 37 years. She then returned to Hubbardton, Vt. where she was a member of the Adoniram Chapter 22, Order of the Eastern Star. She also owned and operated the Woolens 1806 Sheep Farm in Hubbardton, Vt., prior to moving to Wells in 2001.

She enjoyed knitting and was an accomplished artist painting on tin and canvas.

She was pre-deceased by her parents and her adoptive parents, George S. and Ethel M. Bennett of Manchester, Vt. and one sister, Mina Young-Didbalis in 1986.

Surviving are three nieces Mary Arduca of Brandon, Vt., Joan Didzbalis of Worcester, Mass. and Jane Didzbalis of Moody; one great-nephew, Joseph Arduca; and two great-great nieces.

Private memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Mrs. Johnson's memory to the Seacoast Hospice, 1039 Islington St., Portsmouth, NH 03801, or the Animal Welfare Society Inc., PO Box 43, West Kennebunk, ME 04094.

Thelma Lewis, 80

ROCHESTER, N.H. - Thelma G. Lewis, 80, of Eagle Drive, formerly of South Berwick, died April 24, 2003 at the Frisbee Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Rollinsford, N.H., July 3, 1922, the daughter of Everett F. and Edna M. (Blaisdell) Tozier. She was the widow of Matthew J. Lewis who died in 1955.

She was a lady who lived a Christian life by volunteering her time and love, especially in her "cookie ministry" providing baked goods, and soups to shut-ins.

A graduate of Dover High School, class of 1940, she attended the Domestic School of Science in Boston, majoring in dietary science.

She had worked in Pearl Harbor during World War II, as a motor vehicle operator.

Members of the family include her two sons, Matthew J. "Skip" Lewis Jr. of North Berwick and Keith Lewis of Kennebunkport; one daughter, Brenda Lewis of Rochester, N.H.; two siblings, Burton C. Tozier of Rollinsford.

James

Moulison Sr., 85

KENNEBUNK - James D. Moulison, 85, formerly of Salem, Mass., a resident of Huntington Common Drive, Kennebunk, died April 24, 2003 at the Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Vina Pauline (Deschene) Moulison.

He was born in Salem, Mass. June 27, 1917, a son of Enos Charles and Mary Edna (Faulkner) Moulison. He attended Salem and Lynn, Mass. public schools and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Lynn. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II as an Electricians Mate Second Class and served on the USS Bibb.

He was employed at the General Electric Company in Lynn, Mass. Following the war and in 1950 he formed the James D. Moulison Company Inc. Electrical Construction until his retirement in 1982. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Wenham Golf Club, the Salem Country Club and the Pinehurst North Carolina Country Club. He was a life member of the K of C and the Kiwanis Club of Salem, Mass., Del Ray Beach, Fla. and Southern Pines Club in N.C.

A brother, Richard C. Moulison and a sister Anna Moulison, predeceased him.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Vina Pauline Moulison; two sons, Kenneth G. Moulison of Wells, and James D. Moulison Jr. of Peabody, Mass.; two daughters, Elaine Greenhalge of Powell, Ohio and Ann Elwell of Essex, Mass.; one brother, Robert Moulison of Peabody, Mass.; one sister, Elaine Newhall of Peabody, Mass.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at St. Martha Church, Portland Road, Kennebunk, with the Rev. Fr. Laurent Laplante. Interment was in St. Mary's cemetery Salem, Mass.

Adalie Munroe, 89

WELLS - Adalie Munroe, 89, resident of Wells, formerly of Rumford and Portland, died Feb. 11, 2003. She was the widow of Edwin Halacy and George Munroe.

She is survived by her children, Joyce Balzano and husband Guido of Hingham, Mass., Dorothy Chamberlain and husband Armand of Westbrook, Clifton Halacy and wife Marjory of Scarborough, and Sally Gilpatric and husband William of Kennebunk; she had three grandchildren, Shane Halacy of Portland, Susan Gilpatric of Falmouth and Jason Gilpatric of Kennebunk.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday May 10 at the Wells Congregational Church, Post Road, Wells, with the Rev. Herbert Henry officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Senior Center at Lower Village, 175 Port Rd., Kennebunk, Maine 04043 or to the Wells Congregational Church, Route 1 North, Wells, Maine 04090, in Mrs. Munroe's memory.
