She was born Nov. 24, 1910 in Lewiston, the first child of Florence (Dingley) Lord and Hartley Little Lord. She was educated in Kennebunk schools before being graduated in 1931 from Wellesley College, Summa cum Laude. She spent the year 1926 in Paris at a finishing school because she was too young to enter college. She later got her master's degree in business administration from Cornell University. Classically educated, she was fluent in French, Italian and German. She was also a Latin scholar. She was the great-niece of former Gov. Dingley of Maine. Her father was the grandson of Hartley Lord (1825-1912) who built the Lord Mansion on Summer Street. The Lord family also built several other prominent Summer Street houses. Lord's Point at Kennebunk Beach is named after her great-grandfather who developed the area.

She first worked for International House in New York City and later Chicago where, at first, she had difficulty being understood because of her Maine accent. She later was director of admissions at Russell Sage Junior College in New York State and thereafter at Bradford Junior College in Massachusetts. Until her retirement in 1975, she was chief medical librarian at Webber Hospital, Biddeford now Southern Maine Medical Center. More recently, she and the late Betty Joyce were responsible for replanting trees on the Main Street in downtown Kennebunk. She enjoyed life-long popularity, always a very gracious, courageous lady and had friends from all walks of life. Despite her many advantages, she treated everybody alike. She sold her family home on Summer Street in 1981 but returned many times over the years and celebrated her 90th birthday there. Her gracious ways, sense of humor and love of friends and family endeared her to all. She memorized and recited many humorous poems and limericks ("Albert and the Lion"), loved flowers and gardens and was an authority on Lord family genealogy and the history of Kennebunk.

She was an active member of the First Parish Unitarian Church in Kennebunk, a member of the Brick Store Museum and served as trustee for several years and was a member of the Kennebunk Fire Society.

James Masucci

YORK - "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."

James Edwin Masucci of Houston, Texas and York Harbor, Maine came to his journey's end on July 26, 2003 after a most courageous and lengthy battle with both Myelodysplasia and later, Leukemia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Catherine (Hayes) Masucci.

He is survived by his loving family: his wife of 43 years Diane; one son Hayes Weber Masucci, daughter-in-law Samantha Whelan Masucci, and mother-in-law Sophie V. Weber, all of Houston; one sister Kathleen Masucci of Northport, Long Island; two brothers, Lawrence Masucci of Glen Cove, N.Y. and Anthony of Santa Clarita, Calif.

Born on Aug. 28, 1932, he was raised in Northport, Long Island, N.Y. He studied communications at New York University and later at the Television Workshop of New York. Following college, he served as a Screaming Eagle of the 101st Airborne Division. Then in 1956, at WTEN-TV in Albany, N.Y., he became one of the original employees of Hudson Valley Broadcasting, the corporation which later became Capital Cities/ABC. His warm, out-going style, his sense of humor and his creative bent formed the cornerstone for his life-long television career. In 1971, with a track record of remarkable production and direction accomplishment, he was transferred to Houston, Texas as the Operations Manager of KTRK-TV, Channel 13. The station prospered in all ways and was soon hailed as one of the finest in the country. In 1983, he was named a corporate vice president and then in 1990, assumed the station's presidency.

His contributions served KTRK-TV and the Houston community. He developed and for years guided the daily "Good Morning Houston" program, one of the country's most viewed local television programs and a vehicle that showcased the diverse facets of day-to-day living in Houston. He was a board member of the Houston Symphony and a supporter of the arts. He was a board member of the Urban League and encouraged a host of inner-city projects. He was instrumental in the success of the Houston Jefferson Awards, a program that applauded the contributions of ordinary generous Houstonians. He served on the board and helped to create the highly acclaimed Houston Crimestoppers. He produced the first Lombardi Awards program, was recognized for his leadership in the Texas Sesquicentennial Celebration, the 1988 Challenger Center Gala, the 1990 Night of a Thousand Lights: a Houston Crackdown Celebration, and the frequently copied on-air annual Share Your Christmas food drives.

He retired in 1996; a tribute to his career was delivered in the House of Representatives by the Honorable Jack Fields and recorded in the Congressional Record of July 16, 1996. He was soon enjoying long lunches with good friends, discussing the state of affairs of the world, and pursuing his golf game at BraeBurn Country Club, with the best buddies on any links - anywhere. Even in retirement, however, he developed a consultancy, Jem Media, Inc., and served on the board of Landry's Restaurants, Inc.

Having been raised in the beautiful harbor side town of Northport, New York, he developed a true love for the ocean at an early age and during his lifetime never was far from a coastline, especially the wonderful Northern Atlantic coast of Maine. After work was put away, he settled in the lovely town of York Harbor, for part of the year where he could sit on his porch and see both the harbor and the ocean, which he considered a most treasured gift. He also built exquisite models of old time sailing ships.

Throughout his life, he was loved and admired by all with whom he interacted. He will be sorely missed, but each of us is better for having known him.
