Robert Bollman, 75

YORK - Robert Burton Bollman, 75, of Cape Neddick, husband of Lorraine (Hall) Bollman died Oct. 1, 2003 at York Hospital, York.

He was born on July 16, 1928 in Gary, Ind., the son of Curtis B. and Madge (Whitney) Bollman. He was raised in Wisconsin and attended Milwaukee schools. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison in 1952. He received his master's degree from Marquette University in 1954. He also attended Yale University for two additional semesters and served in the Wisconsin National Guard.

He began his career in the newspaper business in 1954. He started as a reporter at the Republican American in Waterbury, Conn. He soon became editor of the school page and a Sunday feature writer. He also worked as the Cheshire correspondent and worked on the copy desk before working in Albany, N.Y. at the Knickerbocker News. He began work as copy desk chief of the Danbury News Times in Danbury, Conn. in 1969, retiring in 1990 to Cape Neddick.

Throughout his life he was a train enthusiast. He enjoyed reading railroad history, particularly the Mid-Western rails.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Richard Bollman and a sister, Mary McPherson.

A devoted husband and loving father, he is survived by his wife, Lorraine (Hall) Bollman and four children; one son Robert, Jr. and his wife Janice of Berwick; three daughters, Heidi Mary Bollman of Brattleboro, Vt., Susan Lipton and her husband James of York and Carol Chlosta of Cape Neddick; four grandchildren, Rachel, Gregory and Benjamin Lipton of York and Grace Chlosta of Cape Neddick. There is also an expectant grandson, Wesley of Berwick.

A private family memorial service will be held at a future date.

Ann Doyle, 68

KENNEBUNKPORT - Ann M. (Cantfill) Doyle, 68, of Quincy, Mass. and Kennebunkport, Maine died Oct. 3, 2003 at home after a brief illness.

She was born in Quincy, Mass., educated in Quincy schools, St. John's Grammar School, St. Gregory's High School in Dorchester, Mass. for one year and was a graduate of Quincy High School, class of 1952. She was also a graduate of Bridgewater College, class of 1956.

She has lived in Quincy all her life in the same home and was a lifelong summer resident of Kennebunkport.

She was an elementary school teacher. She had taught in Plymouth and Braintree school systems for several years and has been retired many years.

She enjoyed the arts and was a member of the Museum of Fine Arts and the Bridgewater College Alumni Association. She also enjoyed traveling, gardening and baking.

She was the wife of 41 years to Gregory W. Doyle;

mother of Gregory W. Doyle Jr. of Haverhall, Jame M. Doyle of Watertown and Ann Marie Doyle of Quincy. Also survived by three grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. John the Baptist Church Tuesday. Interment was in St. Patrick's cemetery in Rockland.

Timothy Waser, 38

WELLS - Timothy Dale Waser, 38, a resident of Minuteman Drive, Wells died Oct. 3, 2003 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland after a brief illness.

He was born on Sept. 16, 1965, the son of Dale (Bonnie) and Paul Waser. He was raised in Saugerties, N.Y. and joined the Coast Guard in 1984. He served in Point Judith, R.I.; Cordova, Ala.; Montauk, N.Y.; New Haven, Conn.; and the USCG Reliance in New Castle, N.H. He was a Chief Petty Officer and, since 1998, he was assigned to the USCG Group Portland, Maine, where he was Operations Center Supervisor.

He is survived by his beloved wife Lori (nee Lightcap); mother Dale (Bonnie) Waser; father Paul Waser; grandfather Dale Morgan; brother Craig; three sisters Melissa Woodcock, Kerrie Frederick, and Jeannie Schults; and seven nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday at St. David's Church on Route 1 in Kennebunk with Chaplain Steve Bartell presiding. Interment followed in Ocean View cemetery in Wells.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to: Portland Chief Petty Officers Association, 259 High St., South Portland, ME 04106.

Henry Joyce, 83

ELIOT - Henry A. Joyce, 83, of State Road in Eliot died on Oct. 1, 2003 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital following a period of failing health.

Born in Cape Porpoise, he was a son of Joseph J. and Evangeline M. (Landry) Joyce, and attended local schools.

He served his country as member of the United States Navy for more than 20 years. His distinguished military career began in 1941 when he enlisted, went through the US Naval Submarine School in New London, Conn. and was assigned to the USS Galaxy one of many ships he would serve on during his career. He served for a time on the USS Sea Lion when she took part in a rescue operation off the coast of Hong Kong, where many allied troops were plucked from the water after being taken aboard ships as Japanese prisoners.

Chief Joyce also served aboard the USS Conger, USS Orion, USS Tigrone and he served on the USS Thresher from the time it was commissioned until just shortly before she went down. The Sunday before the Thresher went down he had taken his 10-year-old son on a tour of the ship. He considered the men aboard the Thresher part of his family. Many of them gathered regularly at the Joyce home to work on his racecar or help build a barn for their horses.

After the USS Thresher, he served on the USS Jack. He retired in 1965, becoming the chief nuclear test engineer on the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, for several years until his retirement again in the early 1970s.

He enjoyed his time spent on the water as a lobster fisherman, on his boat the Maria J., both commercially for a time and as a family business. He enjoyed building stock cars and racing them at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway for many years. He also enjoyed building and flying model airplanes and buying and fixing up boats.

He met and in 1961 married his loving wife of more than 40 years Marie (Afthim) Joyce. They made their home for many years in York, and for more than 14 years in Kittery, on the Piscataqua River, where he could keep his boats and lobster fish. They relocated to Eliot several years ago where they have made their home since.

He dearly loved his children, their happiness meant the world to him.

He is survived by his loving wife Maria and his children; two daughters Dr. Alexandra Craig M.D., of Kansas City, Mo., and Marnie and her husband Dirk Ruemenapp of Kittery, Maine and Manchester, N.H.; one son Henry A. Joyce Jr. and his wife Sandy of Ohio; two sisters Phyllis Hanes of Boston, Mass. and Eleanor Dunton of Georgetown, Mass.; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Rd. in Kittery. Friends may visit with Mr. Joyces' family from 12-1 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Please omit flowers.

Donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of York Hospital Drive York, ME 03909.

Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.

Virginia Prince, 84

YORK - Virginia A. Prince died on Oct. 2, 2003 at Sentry Hill in York Harbor where she was a resident for the past two years.

She was born on Jan. 30, 1919 in Hartford, Conn., the daughter to Joseph and Anna (Kowlausky) Ambrose. She graduated from Hartford Public High School in 1937 and from the Holyoke (Mass.) School of Nursing as an R.N. in 1940.

She married Charles E. Prince Jr. of Kittery on May 10, 1942 and was married for 56 years. Her husband passed away in 1998.

She and her family lived in Kittery for 25 years and in the 1960s moved to a new residence on Nubble Point in York Beach. It was here that she and her family owned and operated the Cabana Colony rental cottages and motel. The business was in operation from 1951-1994 when she and her husband sold the business and moved to Eldredge Road in York Harbor.

She enjoyed music and church activities. It was in this setting that her love and warmth for God and church community shown forth. She was a soloist at churches in Rye, Portsmouth, Eliot, Kittery and York for many years. She was the adult and children choir director at St. Mark's Methodist Church in Kittery during the 1950s and early '60s. She was a past member of the Portsmouth Community Chorus and was the lead soloist for several years in events such as Handel's "Messiah." For the last 35 years of her life she was a member of the York Beach Congregational Church and a member of the choir. During her lifetime she had the distinction of singing a solo on Christmas Eve for 50 consecutive years from 1947-1997.

She was active as a R.N. at different hospitals in the local area. In the '70s and '80s she worked in the emergency room of the York Hospital. For several years she participated as an EMT and member of the York Volunteer Ambulance Service. After retiring from active nursing service, she continued at the York Hospital giving hundreds of hours of volunteer service. She was a past board member of the York Senior Center and served as recording secretary. She was a past member of the Sohier Park Committee.

She enjoyed the hobbies of painting, crafts, and travel. She had a remarkable artistic flare for producing oil paintings, designing crafts, and artwork for church and volunteer efforts. She loved traveling. She had fun times with friends on local bus trips. With her family, she traveled throughout much of the United States. She loved to explore new places and experience new cultures. Included were trips to Hawaii, Alaska, the U.K., Northern Africa, much of Europe, and China. One of her highlights was walking on the Great Wall of China.

She particularly loved and enjoyed her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her son Charles and his wife Chhom and daughter Jhen-da of Berwick; her son Thomas of York and his four daughters, Jaime and husband Nate of Framingham, Mass., Jennifer Ryan and daughter Dana of Stoneham, Mass., Abigail of So. Berwick, and Tessa of York.

She was predeceased by daughter Linda and granddaughter Ashley in 1994 and daughter Cheryl in 1996. Both daughters were adopted at an early age from Korea. Cheryl left a son David Perry of Greenland, N.H.; Linda left two daughters, Angela and Justine Willey of York.

She exemplified the true meaning of love. Her spirit will be everlasting in those whom she touched.

Memorial services will be held Nov. 8, 2003 at 1 p.m. in the Union Congregational Church, Church St. York Beach. There are no visiting hours.

Lyndon Warren, 90

KENNEBUNK - Lyndon S. Warren, 90, a life long resident of Kennebunk died July 24, 2003 at the Kennebunk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness.

Mr. Warren was born in Kennebunk, April 10, 1913 a son of John Frank and Edith Knight Warren. He attended Kennebunk Schools and graduated from Kennebunk High School and attended Portland University in Portland, Me.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1935 at Portland, Me. and reenlisted at Fort Williams in Portland 1938. During World War 11 he served 10 months in Europe. He was awarded the EAME Theater Ribbon with 2 battle stars. The German Occupation Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, American Defense Ribbon and Victory Ribbon. During his service time from 1935 through April of 1946. He also served and played bass & snare drums in three U.S. Army Bands. Following the War he became employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and retired after twenty- five years of service. Mr. Warren also was employed at the E.R. Warren Company in Kennebunk. He was an active member of the Wells Branch Baptist Church in Wells Branch.

He leaves several close friends and his Church family.

Funeral service was Tuesday at the Wells Branch Baptist Church on Rt. 9A in Wells Branch. Interment was in the Warren family lot in Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk.

Should friends desire memorials may be made to the Wells Branch Baptist Church, Wells, Maine 04090 in Mr. Warren's memory.

Frances Ehrig

Frances Belle Ehrig, formerly of Ogunquit, died Jan. 12 in Dover, N.H. Services will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Sunday July 27, at 4 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to St. Peter's Episcopal Church.

Marguerite Fletcher

PORTLAND - Marguerite Fletcher of Westwell died July 2, 2003 after a short illness.

Born July 12, 1920 at Felling in Durham, England she moved at age 10 to Montreal, Canada. There she attended Westmount High School and McGill University, graduating as a lab technician. Her interest in medicine was life long and she worked in many hospitals and doctor's offices, including St. Joseph's Hospital in Stamford, Conn., and Baylor University Hospital in Dallas, Texas.

In the early 1960s, she left Montreal and lived in various places in the United States, including California, Dallas, Texas, Washington, D.C., Westport and Stamford, Conn. She traveled many summers with her family to Kennebunk Beach in southern Maine and spent her last years living in Portland to be close to her family.

She loved theater, films, the Portland Symphony Orchestra, her family, friends and all social engagements! Travel was one of her favorite activities, especially to France and to her much-loved home city of Montreal. Her laughter, her stories, her love of life and adventure leave many happy memories, though she is sorely missed by friends and family alike.

She is survived by her daughter, Ronette Stoddard and son-in-law Dan Stoddard; sister Betty Jansens of California; and grandchildren, Mareike Every, Morgan Chisholm, and Robin Stoddard.

The memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday Aug. 7 at St. Luke's Cathedral in Portland. The Rev. Dan Riggall will be officiating. A reception follows.

Norma Gerry, 77

KITTERY - Norma S. (Estes) Gerry, 77, of Martin Road in Kittery, died July 24, 2003 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Gerry was born in Kittery Point, Maine on April 5, 1926, a daughter of Samuel C. and Alice M. (Langille) Estes. She attended local schools graduating from R.W. Traip Academy with the class of 1943. She met and in 1944 married her husband of fifty -nine years Philip A Gerry.

They continued to make Kittery their home, raising a family and playing an active roll in a number of community organizations including the Rebecca's, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Drum and Bugle Corps. She truly enjoyed music. Her family will fondly remember her playing the guitar, singing, and especially her yodelling. She enjoyed life to the fullest including her winters spent in Florida with her husband and family. She continued to be active metal detecting, and crafting.

Mrs. Gerry spent her career in Banking, working at the Maine National Bank in Kittery and on the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

She enjoyed membership in her church, St. Marks United Methodist Church in Kittery. She, with her family truly believed that "The ones you love never really leave you, the become your guardian Angles watching over you forever."

Mrs. Gerry is survived by her loving family, her husband Philip Alan Gerry of Kittery, a daughter Sandra E. Cutting of Shapleigh, Maine, a son Lester G. Gerry of Florida, five cherished grandchildren Cynthia Chick of Eliot, Brian Cutting of Florida, Tammy Wright of Maine, Michael Gerry and Raymond Gerry of Florida, eight great grandchildren and a great granddaughter she looked forward to enjoying, due to her parents in August. She is also survived by, her brothers and their families, Frank Estes of Kittery Point, and Lawrence Estes of Kittery. Mrs.Gerry was predeceased by, her sister Phyllis Ladrie and her beloved grandson Steven Lee Cutting.

Funeral Services will be private at the family's request. Please omit flower donations. Odette Young Hunter, 85

KENNEBUNK - Odette Young Hunter, 85 of Farragut Way, died July 16, 2003 at the Kennebunk Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Hunter was born in Biddeford, Maine, a daughter of Laurence and Alma Young. After graduating High School, she spent 2 years at Traphagen College in New York studying art. She used her education to design and sew her own clothing. She was well known locally as a fashion critic.

In addition to sewing, Mrs. Hunter was active in several clubs and historical societies. She was a member of the New Comers Club and enjoyed putting functions together. She was also a member of the Arundel Yacht Club and a volunteer at the Brick Store Museum. She enjoyed a good bridge game.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Payson L. Hunter of Kennebunk, a son George L. Hunter of Kennebunk, a son Payson Y. Hunter of Halifax, Nova Scotia, a daughter Pamela L. Emery of Centerville, Mass., a brother Laurence Stanley Young of Sparks, Nevada, and four grandchildren.

Visiting hours were held Monday, July 21, 2003. Memorial services were held Tuesday July 22, 2003 with the Reverend Carolyn Lambert presiding. Interment was immediately afterwards in Riverside cemetery in Springvale. Arrangements by Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk.

Karen Joyce Lord, 53

WELLS - Karen J. Lord, 53, a resident of Post Road Wells, died July 16, 2003 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine after a brief illness.

Miss Lord was born in South Kingstown, R. I. A daughter of Everett and Patricia E. Austin Lord. She graduated from North Kingstown High School in 1968. She resided in Middletown R.I. prior to moving to Maine in the late 1980's. She attended Andover College in Portland, Maine. She was employed in the office at York Commons in York for several years.

She was predeceased by her mother Patricia E. Schofield in 2001.

She is survived by her father Everett and his wife Eleanor Lord of Ocala Florida. One sister Laurie S. Lord and her husband Joseph Mitchell of Kennebunkport, Me. One niece, Sarah Dore-Fairfield and her husband Brian Fairfield of Kennebunk, one nephew Joshua Dore of Kennebunkport, and One Great niece Parker Rose Fairfield of Kennebunk. Several Aunts Uncles and Cousins also survive. She also leaves behind her two adorable cats Alice and Andy who gave her much comfort.

Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. August 2 in Arundel Cemetery, North St. Kennebunkport with the Rev. Carolyn Lambert officiating. Interment will be in the Columbarium at the Cemetery.

Should friends desire memorials may be made to the Animal Welfare Society P.O. Box 43, West Kennebunk, Maine 04043 in Karen's memory.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Bibber Memorial Chapel Kennebunk.
