Robert Boyd, 66

KENNEBUNKPORT - Robert C. Boyd, 66, died March 26, 2004 in Kennebunkport. He was the husband of Carol (Hatch) Boyd.

He was born in Portland, Jan. 9, 1938, a son of John S. and Dorothy (Young) Boyd. He graduated from Deering High School class of 1956, attended the University of Maine and in 1961 he received his associate degree in electronics technology from Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute. He served in the U.S. Navy.

He was employed with Honeywell Information Systems in the late 1960s and '70s, he then became employed with Honeywell Bull Corporation in their International Support Division. In the late 1970s he was employed with Hussey Manufacturing Company later returning to Honeywell as software support retiring in 1992. He then formed his own Independent Software Company with accounts in Florida, Arizona and Maine.

He was a member of the South Congregational Church of Kennebunkport, a former member of the Wildwood Fire Department and served as secretary-treasurer, served as a member of the Kennebunkport Budget Board and a volunteer at the Graves Memorial Library. He was an active HAM Radio operator receiving his Novice license in 1952 in many areas with the call letters W1VXY He also had the Call letters NT1V in 2001 as an Amateur Extra. He was a life member of the American Relay League. He was a former member of the Arundel Yacht Club. He enjoyed planning trips and had just returned from a six-week freighter cruise from New York City through the Panama Canal to Conception, Chile and back.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carol H. Boyd; one son, Jay C, Boyd and his wife Jennifer of Kennebunk; one daughter, Lori Cynthia Boyd Duffy of Mill Valley, Calif.; two brothers, Richard D. Boyd and his wife Jeanne of Rariton, Ill. and David S. Boyd and his wife Linda of Northport, Fla.; two grandchildren, Mitchell Boyd and Emily Boyd of Kennebunk; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held Wednesday at the South Congregational Church, Kennebunkport. Interment was in Arundel Cemetery.

Marion Nelson, 93

OLD ORCHARD BEACH - Marion E. Nelson, 93, of Massachusetts Avenue, Ocean Park, died on March 24, 2004 at Southern Maine Medical Center.

She was born in Rochester N.H. on Feb. 10, 1911, a daughter of Albert and Gertrude (Godfrey) Nelson.

She attended Rochester schools and after graduating from high school, she extended her education at Boston University and Keene Teacher's College.

During most of her life, she worked as a schoolteacher in the Rochester, N.H. area.

In 1933, she purchased her home in Ocean Park.

She enjoyed dogs, especially cocker spaniels and Boston terriers.

She was very active in the United Baptist Church in Saco.

She was known by all as an independent, honest, caring, friendly and positive-minded woman.

She is survived by her three sisters, Marjorie Nelson of Storrs, Conn., Ethel Nelson of Storrs, Conn., and Alberta Roberts of Whitinsville, Mass.; and one nephew, Richard Roberts.

A funeral service was held Friday at the United Baptist Church, Saco. Burial will be at a later time in Rochester, N.H.

Donations can be made to the United Baptist Church, 318 Main St. Saco Maine 04072.

Ann Hall, 86

FORT BELVOIR, Va.- Ann (Eldredge) Hall, 86, of Fort Belvoir and a long-time summer resident of 7 King La., Kennebunk Beach, died at home early on the morning of March 16, 2004.

She and her sister Jean were born in Cape May, N.J. Feb. 21, 1918, twin daughters of Samuel Foster and Jessie Laurie Eldredge. She grew up in Cape May and graduated from Cape May Grammar School in 1935. She attended New Jersey College for Women (now Douglass College) in New Brunswick, N.J.

In October, 1937, she married Linscott Aldin Hall of St. Louis, Mo., a recent West Point graduate. Four days later, they sailed for Ft. Kamehameha, Hawaii. Her children were born at successive postings-on Gt. Diamond Island, Maine, St. Louis, Mo., and West Point, N.Y.

From 1950 to 1991, they lived in Bethesda and Chevy Chase, Md., with two-year stations in Tokyo and Paris. She and her husband began summering at their home in Kennebunk Beach in 1974. Her husband rose to the rank of Brigadier General. As his wife, she frequently entertained military and foreign diplomatic guests in their home, In 1991, they moved to a U.S. Army retirement community near Fort Belvoir.

She was an avid and talented watercolorist of coastal seascapes. She studied under renowned Maine watercolorists Edgar Whitney and Carl Schmalz and had work shown widely in Maine and the Mid-Atlantic states, including at the annual River Club Show in Kennebunk. She was a founding member of Potomac Valley Watercolorists, and a member of Washington Watercolor Association.

Her husband of 62 years died in 1999.

She is survived by her three children and their spouses: two daughters Robin Orm Hansen of West Bath and K. Laurie Terry of Keedysville, Md.; and one son, Linscott E. Hall of New Market, Md.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Monday at the Old Chapel, Ft. Myers, Va. Interment followed at Arlington Cemetery.

Elizabeth Norman

WELLS - Elizabeth E. Norman, 93, resident of Wells, died Jan. 9, 2004 at her home.

She was born on May 18, 1910, the daughter of George William Wakefield III and Myra Elizabeth (Hatch) Wakefield.

She owned and operated Granny's Umbrella, a catering service known for its baked goods and wedding cakes, for more than 20 years.

She enjoyed baking, knitting, flower gardening, and yard sales. She was also a member of the Wells Branch Community Hall, and the Wells High School Alumni, class of 1927.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Madelyn (Norman) Libby and a granddaughter, Ramona Arline Libby.

She is survived by one grandson Richard Libby of Wells; one granddaughter Rebecca (Libby) Gregoire of Wells; and five great-grandchildren, Angela (Libby) Webb of Sanford, Peter Gregoire Jr. of Wells, Joseph Freeman of Wells, Marci Libby of Wells, and Shauna Libby of Springhill, Fla.

A memorial service was held Tuesday at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, Wells. Her grandson, Richard Libby officiated.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Animal Welfare Society Inc., PO Box 43, West Kennebunk, ME 04094-0043.

Mildred Shaw

NORTH BERWICK - Mildred Shaw, known to her friends as "Millie," died suddenly the evening of Jan. 5, 2004 at Varney Crossing Nursing Home in North Berwick.

She was born the daughter of Daniel T. and Eleanor (Turner) Jones, both deceased, in Petersburg, Va., on Oct. 31, 1933. She is one of six children. Brothers: George A. Jones, deceased, of Hopewell, Va., Daniel T. Jones Jr. of Selma, Va. and Gordon L. Jones of San Jose, Calif. Sisters: Shirley Taylor of Hopewell, Va. and Lois S. Walker of Somerset, Ky.

She is survived and will be missed by her family, extended family and many dear friends. She met and married her first husband, Floyd Gray of Wells while he was at Ft. Mead, Va. They moved back to Wells. She had several jobs in her life most being in the restaurant business. She worked for several years with Esther Griffith at her diner and then at the Old Corner Restaurant. She remarks that whenever she was shorthanded she'd call and Millie would always be there for her. She also worked for a few years on the cleaning crew at Hussey Manufacturing. She married her second husband, Phillip Shaw in 1990 and they were divorced a couple years later.

She collected bears. When she made the transition from her own apartment to the room at the nursing home nearly her entire collection of more than 300 stuffed bears, was donated to the Ronald McDonald House. She always had a smile and a positive outlook on life. She loved animals and children; she would often babysit if someone were in a pinch for a sitter. She loved to travel and often spoke of making a second visit to Germany. She enjoyed going for rides and eating out in different restaurants in the area. She was a sweetheart, she loved people and would make friends easily.

There will be no services per her request. She will be buried in the Ocean View cemetery in Wells in the Gray family lot.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to North Berwick Rescue Squad, PO Box 324, North Berwick, ME 03906. Arrangements are by the Johnson Funeral Home, North Berwick.

Margaret Waisnor

WELLS - Margaret Waisnor, 80, of Drakes Island, died Jan. 11, 2004 at her residence.

She was born May 30, 1923, the daughter of William Spencer and Margaret Elizabeth (Hill) Hale in Wilmington, Mass.

From February 1978 through 1991, she was a library aide at Wells High School who was commonly known as "Mrs. W."

Her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandkids. They were very special and to her, "perfect."

She loved her job and the kids. She was proud of the year that the kids dedicated the yearbook in her honor.

She also enjoyed her volunteer work at the Food Pantry, her swimming classes, and playing Mahjong at the Senior Center in Lower Village, Kennebunk.

Her favorite pastime was her weekly card game with her friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edmond Martin Waisnor in February of 1977.

She is survived by one son and his wife, Martin and Susan Waisnor of Amityville, N.Y.; one daughter and her husband, Elizabeth and Richard Scott of Sanford,; three grandsons, Bryan Waisnor of New Jersey, Brett Waisnor of Arizona, and Owen Trude of Maryland; and one granddaughter Megan Scott of Sanford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Food Pantry at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, 236 Eldridge Rd., Wells, ME 04090.

The funeral service will be held today at 11 a.m. at St. Martha on Portland Road in Kennebunk.

Paul Weber

OGUNQUIT - Attorney Paul A. Weber of Lynn, Mass. and Ogunquit, died at home Jan. 11, 2004 of kidney cancer at the age of 58.

He was the son of the late Attorney William F. Weber, former Lynn City Solicitor, and Aileen (O'Hare) Weber.

He was born and raised in Lynn and graduated from Sacred Heart School, St. John's Preparatory School in Danvers and UMass, Amherst, class of 1968. A graduate of Suffolk University Law School, he was a member of both the Massachusetts and Maine Bars. His legal career spanned over 30 years during which he managed both a Maine and Massachusetts law practice. In his early years as an attorney, he served as an Essex County defender and later as police prosecutor for the town of Saugus.

More recently, inspired by changes in his own life, he obtained a master's degree in social work from Salem State College with a concentration in substance abuse. He was deeply involved with LCL, Lawyers Concerned with Lawyers, a Massachusetts agency dedicated to assisting lawyers with stress and substance abuse problems and had served on the board of directors.

During the last 13 years he fulfilled his lifelong dream of living on the coast of Maine where he enjoyed the many outdoor activities that he had shared with his children in their early years. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his three daughters, Gretchen Weber of Cambridge, Mass., Meghan Weber of Swampscott, Mass. and Amanda Weber of Salem, Mass. He is also survived by two sisters, Aileen Corbett of Lynn, Mass. and Catherine Bartok of Kennebunk. He was the brother of the late William F. Weber of North Reading, Mass. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visiting hours were held Wednesday at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Rd., Wells.

Viewing will be held today at Soliminis Landergan and Richardson Funeral Home, Lynn, Mass. A funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, in Lynn, Mass. at 10 a.m. Friday with burial services following at St. Joseph's Cemetery, also in Lynn. Nancy Young

KITTERY - Nancy A. Young, 69, of Mill Pond Road in Kittery, died on Jan. 7, 2004 at York Hospital following a long illness.

Born in Portsmouth, N.H. on Sept. 13, 1934, she was a daughter of Theodore and Helen F. (Hay) Scott and attended local schools, graduating from Portsmouth High School with the class of 1952.

She furthered her education at New England Baptist Nursing School in Boston in 1955, becoming an R.N. She worked in industrial nursing throughout New England for many years, including time spent at Booth Fisheries, and Simplex.

Active in her community she was a member of the Portsmouth Garden Club, a member and trustee of the Kittery Historical and Naval Museum, activities director of the New England Prime Time Club for a number of years and an enthusiastic Daughter of the American Revolution, serving as Regent of the Ranger Chapter from 1995 to 1998 at which time she served as New Hampshire State Organizing Secretary from 1998 to 2001. She will be surely missed by fellow daughters.

She is survived by her loving family, her husband Robert Young of Kittery; one brother Richard and his wife Johnnie Mae Scott of Thomasville, Ga.; one step-son Michael C. Young and his wife Linda of York; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her mother Helen F. (Hay) Scott, her son Thomas Huchenson, brother Thomas Scott and step-daughter Valarie Doyle.

A funeral was held on Monday at her church, the Second Christian Church on Government Street in Kittery.

Family flowers only. Donations may be made in her memory to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd St., Suite 1100, New York, NY 10016. Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.

Ann Slattery

WELLS - Ann S. Slattery, 70, a resident of Post Road, Wells, formerly of Bellows Falls, Vt., died Jan. 5, 2004 at the York Hospital, York, after a long illness.

She was born in Ludlow, Vt. on July 18, 1933, a daughter of Harold E. and Mary J. (Dean) Stoddard. She graduated from Black River Academy of Ludlow, Vt. and also graduated from Castleton State College, Castleton, Vt.

She was an elementary school teacher in Bellows Falls, Vt. for more than 30 years. She was a former member of the St. Charles Church of Bellows Falls, Mass.

She and her late husband spent the summers here in Wells since 1983 and moved here permanently in 1991 and she was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church of Wells where she served as the organist for several years.

She and her late husband Danny both enjoyed having their many friends and relatives visit them at their home in Maine.

She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years Daniel S. Slattery who died in 2000 and her sister Dorothy Nichols.

She is survived by her two sons, Paul S. Slattery of New York City and David S. Slattery of Wells; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home, 55 Westminster St., Bellows Falls, Vt.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Charles Church, Bellows Falls, Vt. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery, Westminster, VT.
