Natalie Harton, 58

SANFORD / WELLS - Natalie A. Harton, 58, died at her daughter's home in Sanford, April 17, 2004 following a brief illness.

She was born July 23, 1945 in Bangor, a daughter of Reginald H. and Gladys M. (Grover) Williams and graduated from Bangor High School. She came from Bangor to the Wells / Sanford area in 1979. She was employed as a retail clerk with the Ames Department Store in Sanford until its closing in 2002.

She enjoyed reading, quilting, needlepoint and various other crafts such as knitting and crocheting. She loved walking on Wells Beach and was an avid gardener. Her heart belonged to her children and grandchildren. She was very fond of her dog, Buddy and her cat, Mineau.

She was a member of the Quazy Quilters in Wells and the Evergreen Quilters. She was a former member of the Elks 2738 Ladies Auxiliary and received the Ladies Elks of the Year Award.

She enjoyed her Tuesday night ceramic classes at Gabe's Ceramics in Sanford.

Survivors include Her husband, Lucien Harton, Jr. of Wells; three sons, Gregory and Danny Hutchinson of Sanford, and Lucien Harton III of Wells; two daughters, Tracy Poisson and Cathy Wilmot of Sanford; one brother, Reginald Williams of Bangor; and 14 grandchildren.

Her sister, Marjorie Waldron, predeceased her.

A Memorial Service will be held later in May. There will be no calling hours.

Deborah Phillips, 37

ELIOT - Deborah Jean Phillips, 37, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Eliot, died suddenly on April 6, 2004 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

She was born on Jan. 7, 1967 to Roger E. and Betty (Miller) Phillips. She attended school and was raised in Eliot.

She was a caretaker of all animals large and small, and enjoyed spending time with her friends. She has resided in Iowa for the last 14 years.

She will be missed by those who knew and loved her including her family; her mother Betty Fitzsimmons of Eliot; one daughter, Sherri Wirth; one son, Codi Phillips; grandmother, Lillian Miller; one sister, Laurie Phillips; one brother, Hank and his wife Stephanie Fitzsimmons; one aunt, Judy Beth; one niece, Dana Phillips; one nephew, Aries Fitzsimmons; two cousins, Adam and David Beth; her friends Frances Corbett, Jean and Kenny Murray, Jim Murray, Dave Dempsey and James Thomas, all of Iowa.

A memorial service was held Tuesday at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Margaret Rogers, 88

KITTERY - Margaret M. Rogers, 88, of Wyman Avenue in Kittery, died on April 13, 2004 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital following a period of failing health.

Born in Bar Mills on Oct. 30, 1915, she was the daughter of Daniel and Hannah (Reagan) Hickey. She graduated from Thornton Academy in Saco.

Following graduation she moved to Portsmouth, N.H. to work at the Portsmouth Naval shipyard as a clerk. She was employed at the shipyard for more than 40 years retiring in the early 1980s.

In 1952 she met and married her loving husband of more than 30 years, Wesley Rogers. Together they made their home on Wyman Avenue.

She was an active member of her church, St. Raphael Catholic Parish in Kittery. Her church family was a very important part of her life. She was a member of the Catholic Women's Club, a Eucharistic minister, served on the Parish Council, and Social Justice and Peace Committee, as well as many other parish activities. She will be fondly remembered for among many things, her active part in the Christmas open house at the rectory in years past and her roll serving tea and welcoming guests.

She was an active volunteer with a strong commitment to her community, spending many hours at Portsmouth Regional Hospital as a volunteer and at the Kittery Historical and Naval Museum. She was a member of the Portsmouth Hospital Guild and the Portsmouth Women's City Club. She was a supporter of many local and national charities, helping a variety of people.

She is survived by one nephew, David Hickey and his wife Eileen of Lawrenceville, Ga.; one niece, Maureen Macaleer of Pittsburgh, Pa.; seven great-nephews and nieces Daniel, Timothy, Erin and Meghan Hickey and Sarah, Stuart and Marjorie Ann Macaleer; and one great-great-niece, Caitlyn Kearney.

She was predeceased by her brother John E. Hickey.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday at her church, St. Raphael Parish Church on Whipple Road in Kittery.

Barbara Sheldon, 86

WELLS - Barbara P. Sheldon, 86, of Island Beach Road, died April 19, 2004 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

She was born in Watertown, Mass., a daughter of Lester G. and Doris (Donaghy) Phelps.

She graduated from Watertown High School and Simmonds College in Boston.

She worked as a dietician at New England Memorial Hospital in Stoneham, Mass.

She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed quilting. She was also a member of the Kennebunk Senior Center.

Her husband, Kenneth Sheldon died in 1969.

She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey of Tyngsboro, Mass. and Brian of San Jose, Calif.; two daughters, Nancy Miller of Port Charlotte, Fla. and Susan Gross of Kennebunk; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be private. If desired, donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation of Maine, 630 Congress St., Portland, ME 04101.

Leslie Howlett, 94

MEDFIELD, Mass. - Leslie J. Howlett, 94, of Medfield, where he was been a resident since 1922, died after a very brief illness at the Riverbend Convalescent Home in South Natick.

Born Jan. 14, 1910 in Somerville, Mass., he was the son of the late Harry and Emilie (Aldous) Howlett. Moving to Medfield in 1922, he was educated in the Medfield public schools, graduating with the class of 1928.

He retired in 1972 from the National Shawmut Bank in Boston where he had been employed for more than 50 years in the Payroll / Personnel Department. He was also the Medfield Town Accountant from 1943 to 1975.

He was a member of the National Guard during World War II. A devoted grandfather and great-grandfather, he summered for more than 50 years in Ogunquit and one of his hobbies included boat building, where he built many skiffs. His favorite sport was baseball with the Red Sox being his favorite team.

Husband for more than 54 years to the late Edith C. Mcintyre, he leaves one daughter, Charlotte H. Reinemann and her husband Richard of Medfield, Mass.; one daughter-in-law, Beverly Howlett of Farmington, Conn.; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by two sons, Robert A. Howlett and Leslie J. Howlett Jr., and a daughter-in-law Margaret Howlett.

A funeral was held Tuesday at the Church of the Advent, Medfield, Mass., and burial followed at Vine Lake Cemetery, Medfield.

Eulah Pease, 94

KENNEBUNK - Eulah (Noble) Pease, 94, of Penny Lane, died April 17, 2004 at Southern Maine Medical Center.

She was born in Clarinda, Iowa on Feb. 3, 1910, a daughter of Jack F. and Anna E. (Choat) Noble. She attended schools in Clarinda and Fayetteville, Ark. as well as the University of Arkansas. While in school in Clarinda, she played piano and sang in her church choir and on the radio at a local radio station.

She was a member of the U.S. Navy (WAVES) during World War II, worked at the Naval Ordinance Laboratories in Silver Spring, Md., where she met her husband who was also stationed there. She married Robert W. Pease on Sept. 29, 1945 and lived in Haddonfield, N.J. and Morris Plains, N.J. She worked in the sales department at Warner Lambert Pharmaceuticals in Morris Plains for 10 years, and the Morris County Board of Voter Registration for 15 years and was involved in the creation of the Friday Evening Club in Morris County, whose purpose was to bring arts, music, and entertainment to county residents.

The Peases summered in Ocean Park and moved from Morris Plains to Saco in 1996, and then to the Atria assisted living facility in Kennebunk in 2003.

She enjoyed hiking, camping, and travel; reading; botany, ornithology, and natural sciences; history, politics, and current events; music; family history; and had a wide range of intellectual interests.

She is survived by her husband, Robert, of Kennebunk; one son, Robert W. Pease Jr. and his wife, Lynne of Chelmsford, Mass.; two grandchildren, Emily and Gregory Pease, both of Chelmsford; and several nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk.

KENNEBUNK - Irene A. Mathieu, widow of Alfred, died Feb. 19, 2004. Graveside committal will be held at Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk Saturday at 1 p.m.

Osvaldo Coolidge, 77

OGUNQUIT - Ogunquit's well-known restaurateur and chef, Osvaldo "Ozzie" Coolidge died unexpectedly April 22, 2004 in Genoa, Italy. From the early '30s, his adoptive-father, Richard Coolidge, owned The Dan Sing Fan, a teahouse restaurant atop Perkins Cove, historically recognized for its Chinese pagoda-style architecture. In the mid 60's Ozzie renamed it the Cove Garden and ran it as fine Italian restaurant (except for a few seasons when it was the Fan Club) until he retired in 1995. He was born in Genoa, where as a young man wrestled for Italy in the 1948 Olympics in London. A local hero, he served in the Italian Resistance and was the model for a giant statue of a fisherman that still stands overlooking the harbor in Genoa. Later, adopted by Mr. Coolidge, he became an American citizen and always considered America his spiritual home É he truly loved this country. For many years, he would leave Genoa every spring and return to the Cove Garden, where he was passionate about sharing his Northern Italian cuisine with many enthusiastic followers. His warm, outgoing personality as host and chef made diners feel part of a large Italian family and he attracted an international clientele. His two daughters, Brenda of Genoa, Consuelo of Hamburg, Germany and a grandchild, survive him.

Margaret English, 85

WELLS - Margaret (Johnson Egerton) English was known to most as Peg. She died April 14, 2004 following a brief stay at the Greenwood Center in Sanford. She was born in Alexandria Bay, N.Y. on March 8, 1919, the eldest daughter of Hjalmar and Anna Johnson who were immigrants from Sweden. As a young girl her father, a stone mason, moved his family to Chelmsford, Mass. to be close to Fletcher's quarry. There she attended Chelmsford schools and in 1937 married Charles (Chuck) Egerton who predeceases her. She loved to tell funny stories of her work in Lowell, Mass. during World War II where she made bullets and parachutes. She was very active in the community and worked on many committees with her husband during his terms as Chelmsford Town Selectman before they moved to their cottage on Northwood Lake, N.H. In 1972, she married Philip English who also predeceases her. In 1987 she retired as office manager of Harding Metals in Northwood and moved with Mr. English to Barefoot Bay, Fla. In 2001, she moved to Wells to be close to her daughter and lived at the Stephen Eaton Apartments. She had a marvelous sense of humor. She was usually the last to catch the punch line of a joke but the first to fill a room with her infectious laugh. She enjoyed entertaining her family and friends with smorgasbords on Christmas Eve and outdoor meals at the lake. Her interests included travel, quilting, and gathering photographs for her many albums. She was a member of the York Ogunquit United Methodist Church in York. She is also predeceased by her son Charles (Chucky) Egerton who died in 2002 in Omaha, Neb. Surviving family members are one daughter and son-in-law, Betty Egerton Wilder and Cal Wilder of Wells; one stepson, Philip English of Nottingham, N.H.; one daughter-in-law Jackie Egerton of Omaha, Neb.; five grandchildren, Rob Wilder of Sanford, Scott Wilder of Maui, Hawaii, Cheryl Wilder Krass of Exton, Pa., Charles Toby Egerton of Omaha, Neb., and Philip J English of Nottingham, N.H.; three great-grandchildren; and several nephews. Graveside services will be private at the Fairview cemetery in North Chelmsford, Mass. Those who wish may make a memorial donation to their favorite charity in her name.

Marlene Zurlo, 65

BEAR, Del. - Marlene H. Zurlo, 65, of Bear, Del., formerly of Cape Neddick, went to be with the Lord on April 22, 2004 with her loving family at her side. She was a dedicated homemaker whose greatest joy was being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed nature's beauty and the coming of springtime. She also enjoyed painting, crafts, cooking and reading. She was a member of St. Margaret of Scotland R.C. Church. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, James A. Zurlo; one son, Michael A. Zurlo and his wife Janice, one daughter, Cynthia Z. Cox and her husband Jack all of Wells; her mother, Louisa Bartlett of Presque Isle; two brothers, Daniel Bartlett of Prescott, Ariz. and Gregory Bartlett of Soldotna, Ark.; three sisters, Jessie Reisfeld of Port St. Lucy, Fla., Sharon Chasse of Portage Lake, Maine, and Lois Jimmo of Wallingford, Conn.; four grandchildren, Michelo, Murphy, Sophia and Gabriella. She was the daughter of the late Ralph Bartlett. A the Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday in St. Margaret of Scotland R.C. Church, Newark, Del. Burial was in Ocean View Cemetery, Wells. Mary Gallucci, 66

KENNEBUNK - Mary Josephine Gallucci, 66, a resident of Gendron Lane, died April 20, 2004 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland. She was born in Lowell, Mass. on Feb. 15, 1938, a daughter of John and Agnes (Hogan) Quinn. After graduating from high school, she went on to earn her B. S. in education from the University of Lowell. She then went on to earn her master's degree from Boston University. She taught school in Wilmington, Mass. for 10 years, Peterborough, N.H. for two, and Lebanon, Maine SAD 60 for 10 years. She also volunteered her time at Creative Work Systems teaching disadvantaged adults to read. In 1999 she received the Volunteer of the Year Award for her service. She loved her family. She especially enjoyed the times spent with her grandson Bryan. She enjoyed helping people. She was always sending cards to people for all occasions just to let them know that others were thinking of them. She brought a lot of joy to those that knew her. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Vincent Gallucci; two daughters, Laura and Paula Gallucci; three brothers, William, John and James Quinn; one grandson, Bryan; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday at St. Martha Church in Kennebunk with Father Laurent Laplante presiding. Interment followed in Hope Cemetery. Raymond Seiford, 76

KENNEBUNK - Raymond E. Seiford, 76, of Cheshire Meadows, died April 23, 2004 at York Hospital. He was born on Aug. 26, 1927 in Akron, Ohio, a son of George and Myrtle (Church) Seiford. On July 24, 1958 he married Mary Frances Babb, with whom he shared 40 years of marriage until her death in 1998. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He worked on the Apollo Space Program as a draftsman for the Boeing Corporation. He was also a survey crew chief for the Florida Department of Transportation. He was member of the Kissimmee Elks Lodge. Survivors include one daughter, Tracy Weber and her husband, Frank of York; two brothers, George Seiford of Lafayette, La. and Edward Seiford of Placentia, Calif.; two grandchildren, Emily Weber and Daniel Weber, both of York. A funeral service will be held today at the Osceola Memory Gardens, 1717 Old Boggy Creek Rd., Kissimmee, Fla. A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Osceola Memory Gardens Funeral Home. Mary Watson, 84

CONCORD, N.H. - Mary H. Watson, of 10 Curtis Ave., died April 25, 2004 at the Elizabeth Seton Residence in Wellesley, Mass., surrounded by her family. She was born in Concord, N.H., on Oct. 14, 1919, the daughter of James J. and Margaret (Dawson) Hannigan and was a lifelong resident of the Fostervile neighborhood in Concord's North End. She was a summer resident of York Beach since 1960, where she enjoyed family gatherings at their seaside cottage. She was salutatorian of the class of 1936 at St. John High School in Concord and then graduated from the Concord College of Business in 1937. She worked for the state of New Hampshire for 58 years, 1937 to 1995, as an administrative assistant. She began her career with the New Hampshire Publicity Bureau and finished with the Department of Resources and Economic Development. Along with her husband, Roger, she also operated Watson's Antiques for many years. Serving on the board of directors for the New Hampshire Federal Credit Union for more than 50 years, she took tremendous pride in the operation of that organization. She also was an active member of the New Hampshire State Employee's Union since its inception. Keenly interested in New Hampshire politics and history, she thoroughly read three newspapers every day. She was an ardent fan of both the Boston Celtics and the Boston Red Sox. For all of her activities and interests, it was the depth of Mary's faith in God and her unwavering devotion to the Catholic Church that most clearly defined her. She was a communicant of St. Peter's Church and lived each day in complete accord with her religious convictions and faith. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Roger E. Watson in 2002. She is survived by her five children, Joyce M. Watson of Dover, N.H., Thomas R. Watson of Portsmouth, N.H., Nancy J. Watson and her husband, Martin Rosen of South Natick, Mass., Robert J. Watson and his wife, Claudia of Rochester, N.H. and James K. Watson and his fiancŽe, Kim Craig of Wellesley, Mass.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and her loving brother, Monsignor Thomas J. Hannigan, pastor of St. Catherine's Church in Manchester, N.H. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at today at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Church, 135 N. State St., Concord. Burial will follow in Blossom Hill Cemetery, Concord, N.H. Memorial donations may be made to the Carmelite Monastery, 275 Pleasant St., Concord, NH 03301.

Harold White, 86

KENNEBUNK - Harold E. White, 86, a resident of Sunset Terrace, Kennebunk, Maine, formerly of Naples, Fla. and Worcester, Mass., died April 26, 2004 in Kennebunk. He was born in Worcester, Mass., the son of Elizabeth (Mars) White and Bertram White. He attended Classical High School and was graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and also from its School of Industrial Management. He was a Fifty Year Associate of WPI and a member of the President's Council. He was a Registered Professional Engineer of the State of Massachusetts. He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He was commissioned at Yale University and studied radar at Harvard University and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Assigned to the China Burma Theatre, he reported to a base in Central India where the B-29 bombers were first stationed. Subsequently, he was transferred to the First Troop Carrier Squadron in Assam, India in support of Merrill's Marauders and later the Mars Task Force in the reopening of the Burma Road. He was Group Communications and Radar officer in the Tenth Air Force at the end of the war and was transferred to China to assist in the relocation of Chaing Kai-Shek's troops to strategic locations in China during the Civil War. Upon his return to the United States, he began his civilian career with the Norton Company in Worcester, Mass. as a factory engineer and rose in the engineering staff organizations to research director. He later transferred to the operating side of the business and relocated to Niagara Falls, Ontario as director of Furnace Plant Operations in North America. After a short relocation back to Worcester, he was appointed manager director of the Norton Company operations in the United Kingdom. During his seven years in Europe, his assignments expanded and he became vice president and general manager of Northern Europe and was appointed a corporate officer of the company. Relocation back to the United States included assignments as general manager of the Organic Division, general manager of Norton Company of Canada and general manager of the Coated Abrasive Division, with headquarters in Watervliet, N.Y. Following retirement he continued employment as a management consultant and also served with the International Executive Service Corps in South America. During his years living in Worcester County, he was a member of the Holden District Hospital Board of Trustees and a member of the Holden Congregational Church. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Patricia (Wallace) White of Kennebunk; two daughters, Patricia A. White of Cambridge, Mass., and Catherine E. (White) Gallagher of Surprise, Ariz.; one son, David S. White of Kennebunk; two granddaughters, Cynthia P. (White) Brown of Scarborough, and Anne Maka Dakin of New York City; two grandsons, Petty Officer Andrew D. White of the U.S. Coast Guard and Michael C. Maka of Nashua, N.H.; one great-granddaughter, Lucia Joy Dakin of New York City; and two great-grandsons, Samuel L. and Ryan A. Brown, both of Scarborough. Burial services will be private. Lynn Wiley, 35

KENNEBUNKPORT - Lynn M. Wiley, 35, of Kennebunkport, died April 18, 2004 at Kennebunk Beach as a result of a surfing accident. She was born in Oak Park, Ill. on July 27, 1968, a daughter of Bruce E. and Carolyn B. (Dunham) Wiley. She graduated from Vestal High School in Vestal, N.Y. in 1986 and had most recently attended the University of Southern Maine in Portland. She loved animals, was an avid surfer and enjoyed music, travel and studying language. She is survived by her parents of Kennebunkport; three sisters, Laurel Wiley of Los Angeles, Calif., Susan Wiley of Portland, and Kristina Estelle of Philadelphia, Pa. A memorial service was held on April 22 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk with Rev. Carol Strecker officiating. Ethel Young, 84

OGUNQUIT - Ethel M. Young, 84, a resident of Seaview Avenue, died April 25, 2004 at the York Hospital in York. She was born in Kittery on Nov. 26, 1919, a daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Dixon) Lovely. She is survived by her husband Meredith; one son, Robert Young of Moody; nine brothers and sister, Lovona Gomes of Vancouver, Wash., Barbara Martel of Sanford, Joseph Lovely Jr. of Northwood, N.H., Edward Lovely of Lebanon, Mary Hathaway of Hooksett, N.H., Elizabeth Smith of Nottingham, N.H., Ellen BeLand of Manchester, N.H., Frank Lovely of Ausable Forks, N.Y., and Dorothy Smith of Nottingham, N.H.; four grandchildren, Eric Young of Kennebunk, Stephen Young of Wells, Lisa Brosnan of Moody, and Susan Larrabee of Scarborough; and seven great-grandchildren.
