Ernest Morris Sr.

KENNEBUNK – Ernest E. Morris Sr. of Cat Mousam Road, Kennebunk, passed away March 24, 2004 in Kennebunk after a brief illness.

He was born in Fall River, Mass. in 1913, the son of Maude Alice Burrows and J.W. Stanley Morris.

He graduated from B.M.C. Durfee High School and the University of Southern Massachusetts where he was a member of the Phi Si Fraternity.

He was a 75-year member of the First Baptist Church of Fall River.

His career was spent in the textile industry. He was a member and president of the New England Textile Club of Boston, Mass. He was also a member of the Fall River Rotary Club and the Pepperell Foremans Club and a former member of the Westport Harbor Country Club and Elephant Rock Beach Club of Westport Harbor, Mass.

He moved his family to Kennebunk in 1956 and grew to love the state of Maine, retiring in 1978 and devoted his time to his beloved grandchildren. He spent many hours with his family at Kennebunk Beach and enjoying his favorite hobby of oil painting.

He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Aurelia and a son, Robert.

He leaves one daughter, Barbara J. Townsend and her husband Neil Sr.; one son, Ernest F. Morris Jr. and his wife Linda; four grandchildren, Kelly Townsend Howe and her husband Chris, Neil B. Townsend Jr. and his wife Lisa, Matthew E. Morris and his fiancée Alice Crocker and Jaime M. Morris; eight great-grandchildren, Shawn, Morgan, Thomas, Joseph, Hannah, Ryan, Silas and Paul; two sisters, Gertrude Cooper of Fall River, Mass., and Frances Gardella of Swansea, Mass.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Seth Norwood, 62

CAPE NEDDICK – Seth H. Norwood, 62, of 1521 Route 1, formerly of Portland, died unexpectedly April 3, 2004 at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston.

He was born in Augusta, the son of Washington J. and Jennie (Stevens) Norwood. He was raised on Peaks Island and was a graduate of Portland High School. He served in the U.S Army from 1964 to 1966.

He had worked in the production department at Nissan Bakery in Portland for many years, retiring in 1998. He also was a carpenter in the greater Portland area and had worked as a carpenter and driver at the Portland Diocese office. After retiring, he worked at the Country View Motel in Cape Neddick since 1998.

He enjoyed snowmobiling, especially in the Monson, Maine and Quebec areas where he would go with friends every year. He also enjoyed building and woodworking.

He was predeceased by nine siblings, Gerald, Douglas, Forest, James Jr., Washington and Thelma Norwood, Nida Nazworth, Virginia Kennedy and Ivy Woodbury.

Survivors include his companion of 11 years, Margaret “Peg” Bowden of Cape Neddick; one son, Michael Tuttle; one grandson, Anthony Tuttle of Hobe Sound, Fla.; two sisters, Waneta Morrill of Portland and Jane Keller of So. Portland.

Interment services will be held at 1 p.m. today in the chapel at the New Maine Veterans Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, NE Division, 1 Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.

Helen Daignault, 83

KENNEBUNKPORT – Helen C. Daignault, 83, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2004 at the Maine Medical Center, Portland, Maine. She lived most of her adult life at 140 Seventh St., Turners Falls, Mass. In September 2003, she moved to Kennebunkport and was a resident of 9 Wildes District Rd.

She was born in Sandwich, Mass. on Sept. 24, 1920, the daughter of Ignatius and Celestine (Zallenski) Berzinski. She graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield, Mass. in 1938.

She married Arthur M. Daignault Sr. on Nov. 20, 1941 in St. Michael’s Cathedral, Springfield, Mass. They were married for 54 years before he passed in January 1996.

She was a communicant of St. Anne’s Church.

She was devoted to her family and received great joy from being the center of their lives. She dedicated her life to bringing joy to those who came to know her. She retired from the Erving Paper Mill where she was a napkin sorter.

She is survived by one son, Arthur M. Daignault Jr. and his wife Patricia of Beverly, Mass.; two daughters, Marguerite M. Kelter and her husband William of Westfield, Mass. and Lois D. Audley and her husband Christopher of Kennebunkport, with whom she made her home; five grandchildren, Paul A. Kelter and his wife Angela of Los Alomos, New Mexico, William A. Kelter Jr. of Taunton, Mass., Susan M. Powers and her husband Shawn of Westfield, Mass., Jennifer L. Bass and her husband David of Castle Rock, Colo. and Michelle E. Daignault of Beverly, Mass.; two great-grandchildren, Kaylee M. and Cameron M. Powers of Westfield, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday April 13 at McCarthy Funeral Home, Turners Falls, Mass. from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Mass of the Resurrection will follow at St. Anne’s Church at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at St. Anne’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Anne’s Church, 90 Seventh St., Turners Falls, MA 01376 or to Franklin County Home Care Corporation Meals on Wheels Program, 330 Montague City Rd., Turners Falls, MA 01376.

James Eaton III, 77

KENNEBUNKPORT – James H. Eaton III, 77, formerly of Andover, Mass. and Kennebunkport, Maine, died of cancer at his home in Yarmouth, Maine on April 4, 2004.

Born in 1926 in Winchester, Mass., he was educated in Andover and graduated from Governor Dummer Academy. He served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. After his discharge from the Navy he attended Norwich University and received his undergraduate degree from Boston University. He received his law degree from Portia Law School (now New England School of Law).

He was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1957. He practiced law with Eaton & Chandler, the firm founded by his grandfather in 1898, until his retirement in 2003. While with the firm Eaton & Chandler (now Oakley, O’Sullivan & Eaton, P.C.). He was a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Lawrence Bar Association, the Essex County Bar Association and the Real Estate Bar Association of Massachusetts. He also was a member and past president of the Merrimack Valley Conveyancer’s Association. For many years he was general counsel and clerk of the First Essex Savings Bank.

He was an avid sailor, fisherman and skier. His love of sailing and fishing grew from his many summers at his family’s summer home in Kennebunkport. He sailed the Caribbean and the South Pacific as first mate aboard the 96-foot Brigantine Yankee in 1953-54. He enjoyed skiing with his family and was a coach of the Andover Buddy Werner League.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy (Nelb); four children, James H. IV of Yarmouth, Gregory N. of Hampstead, N.H., Pamela J. of Andover, Mass., Gilman F. of Bridgewater, N.J.; and seven grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lawrence General Hospital, Lawrence, Mass. or a charity of one’s choice.

Edward Prentice, 82

KENNEBUNK – Edward Garvin Prentice, 82, a resident of Rollins Lane, Kennebunk, died suddenly March 30, 2004 at the Maine Medical Center Portland,

He was born in East Orange, N.J. on April 25, 1921, a son of John and Lois (Garvin) Prentice. He graduated from Belmont High School in Belmont, Mass. where he met his wife Priscilla. He went on to earn his degree from Bentley College.

He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

He was a computer consultant for utility companies for many years.

He was devoted to his wife Priscilla and his family.

He was an avid tennis player and enjoyed woodworking.

He is survived by his wife Priscilla (Clark) Prentice; one son, Steven and his wife Joan; one daughter, Laini Shillito, all of Kennebunk; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral was held Friday at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk with the Rev. Stephen Hastings officiating. Interment will be in Raymond Hill cemetery in Raymond, Maine in the spring.

Should friends desire, donations may made to the American Diabetes Association, 163 Lancaster St., Suite 98R, Portland, ME 04101 in Mr. Prentice’s memory.

Robert Stinson

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Robert William (Bob) Stinson’s long, courageous fight with multiple sclerosis came to an end on Feb. 16, 2004 in Wuesthoff Medical Center, Melbourne, Fla. A memorial service was held at the First Baptist Church of Melbourne on Feb. 20. Inurnment will be later at Orphans Cemetery, in Eastman, Ga.

He was the son of the late Arnold and late Kathleen Stinson of Cape Porpoise. His only brother, Arnold Willis Stinson, preceded him in death in 1950.

He was very active in sports during his high school years here. He signed with the St. Louis Cardinals after graduating. He married Dorothy Bohannon in 1950 in Eastman, Ga. After serving in the Marines, he joined Stuckey’s Pecan Shoppes Inc., where he serviced in many positions over the years, including owner and manager of several shoppes. MS necessitated an early retirement to Melbourne, Fla., in 1987 to be near several of his children. There he enjoyed his family, his friends, his birds, and the outdoors to the very end.

He was loved and will be sadly missed by his wife of 54 years; his children, Kathleen (Mark) Wenzel, Indianapolis, Ind., Kim (Barry) Rubel, Satellite Beach, Fla., Kevin Stinson, Provincetown, Mass., Kerry Stinson, Melbourne, Fla., and Katie (Simon) Raiford, Chattanooga, Tenn. and daughter-in-law Janine Stinson, Eastlake, Mich.

Kenneth Arnold Stinson, his eldest son, died of cancer in 2003.

“Grandy” will also be missed by Luke Stinson, Bri and Kyle Rubel, Sarah and Meghan Wenzel, Jamie Stinson, and Julian and Sam Raiford.

Grace Ward, 83

KENNEBUNKPORT – Grace E. Ward, 83, a lifelong resident of Kennebunkport, passed away peacefully at her home on April 5, 2004.

She was predeceased by her husband, Leroy C. Ward in 1975.

She is survived by one son, Duane E. Ward of Cape Porpoise; one daughter, Derinda W. Cluff of Wells; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Burial will be private.

Richard Denault, 68

WELLS - Richard A. "Dick" Denault, 68, passed away unexpectedly on May 5, 2004.

He was born on Sept. 21, 1935 in Dover, N.H., the son of the late Leo A and Irene (Mailloux) Denault.

He graduated from Dover (N.H.) High School in the class of 1953.

He served in the United States Air Force for 20 years, retiring in 1975. He then went on to obtain a degree at Morris Business College in business management. He spent many years in retail, including 14 years at Reny's and was currently employed at Hannaford in Wells.

In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, playing cards, traveling and especially walking on the beach. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to everyone he met, and once you met him, you would not forget him. He was a generous, caring man who loved his children and grandchildren.

His love of sports included being a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Yankees.

Surviving are his wife of 43 years Loretta D. Denault of Wells; his four children, Lisa D. Denault of Portsmouth, N.H., Michael R. Denault of Sarasota, Fla., Julie E. Bossinger of Lake Worth, Fla., and Eric T. Denault and his wife, Birdie of Thomaston, Maine; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

A funeral was held Sunday at Bibber Memorial Chapel, Wells, with Rev. Joseph Ford officiating. Interment with full military honors was held on Monday at the Maine Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 343 Gorham Rd., South Portland, ME 04106.

Ronald Aromando, 68

WELLS - Ronald A. Aromando, 68, of 97 Blanchard St., died on April 25, 2004, at home with his family.

He was born in Worcester, Mass. on Oct. 28, 1935, son of Joseph P. and Eva Aromando. He graduated from North High School, and also from Worcester State College, where he earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in education. He taught in the Worcester public school system for 41 years until his retirement in June 2000.

He loved his time in Maine, and moved his year-round residence to Wells upon retirement. His hobbies included surfcasting and bird watching. He enjoyed traveling, and recently took a trip to Italy with his wife, Ellen. He especially cherished his time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild.

He is sadly missed by his wife, Ellen; four children, John, Ronald Jr., Brian, and Mary-Isabel; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth, Erin, Esther, Edith, Anna Kate, Marcus, Andrew, Daisy, and Mallory; one great-grandson Cameron; one brother Joseph; and one sister Marie.

Miriam Bond

KENNEBUNK - Miriam (Andersen) Bond of Biddeford, passed away May 6, 2004 at Kennebunk Nursing Center.

She was the beloved wife of Robert Wedger Bond with whom she shared 59 years of marriage.

She is survived by two devoted children; Bruce Bond of Rochester, N.H., and Nancy Doyle and her husband Richard of Brookline, Mass.; three loving grandchildren, Justin and Sarah Bond and Darren Doyle; one sister, Audrey Reigel of North Carolina; one brother, James Andersen Jr. of Delaware; and 11 cherished nieces and nephews.

She was born in Wood-Ridge, N.J. and resided for many years in Darien, Conn. before moving to Biddeford in 1986. She was active in many area organizations including the Seacoast Garden Club.

A memorial service was held Monday at The Church on the Cape, Kennebunkport.

Donations in her memory may be made to Southern Maine Medical Center (SMMC), Attn: Development Office, PO Box 626, Biddeford, ME 04005.

Robert Clukey, 51

KENNEBUNK - Robert F. Clukey, 51, of Kennebunk, died suddenly at his home on May 9, 2004.

He was born in Waterville, April 23 1953 to Maurice and the late Faith (Skillin) Clukey and graduated from Dexter High School.

He continued his education at the University of Maine in Orono with a BS in education and received his MBA from the University of Southern Maine. He has worked for

the last 27 years in the field of education: 10 years as a teacher, one year as a distinguished educator for the State Department of Education, and 16 years as a school administrator, most recently the past eight years as principal of Carl J. Lamb School in Sanford.

He will be remembered as a man who took great joy in working with children, both his own and those entrusted to him.

He was an avid sports fan and he especially enjoyed his sojourns to South Bend, Ind. to experience the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He had a true love of learning and was never seen without a book, an article, or a study nearby.

His greatest joy in life was his family. His enormous love and pride for his three daughters, Amelia, Julia, and Olivia, was evident from the moment you met him. He was supportive, and rarely missed an opportunity to watch them participate in their many sporting endeavors. He also deeply loved his stepchildren, Michael, Cristina, Kathy, and Robbie, and his four grandsons. He is and forever will be missed by his loving wife, Kathryn.

Survivors also include his father, Maurice Clukey and Marilyn Bolduc of Dexter; his aunt, Esther Breard of Oakland, his aunt and uncle, Marice and Bob Hartley of New York, as well as his aunt and uncle, Iris and Albert Beaupre of Fla.; Richard and Janet Bowden, his parents-in-law of Wells, their children; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at Curtis Lake Christian Church on Westview Drive in Sanford at 4 p.m. today

with the Rev. Knight presiding, with burial to follow at Hope cemetery in Kennebunk.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Robert F. Clukey Memorial Fund established to benefit his children at Kennebunk Savings Bank, 104 Main St., PO Box 28, Kennebunk, ME 04043.
