Vernon A. Linscott

KENNEBUNK - Vernon A. Linscott, 57 years old, of Kennebunk was surrounded by family and friends as he died peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 12, 2004.

He was born in Farmington, ME, a son of Arthur Vernon Linscott and Charlotte Robbins Linscott. He was raised however by his foster parents, Rose and Jesse Wessel, of Blue Hill, ME; where he attended schools, including George Stevens Academy.

For several years Vernon worked for Gallo Construction of Sanford, Chris Cote & Assoc., of York, and Kinneyâs RV in Arundel. In addition he was self-employed with his wife who owns and operates ãKing Paul and Queen Thelmaä French Fries at Maineâs agricultural fairs.

Surviving is his wife of 22 years Pamela Webber of Kennebunk, a son, Arthur and daughter Denise, both of Bucksport, ME and three grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother Arthur of Wakefield, MA, and several other siblings.

Vernon was a model train hobbyist, and a founding member of the York County Model Railroad Club. He also enjoyed radio controlled trucks and cars. Vernon had an extraordinary love for animals, and leaves his poodle Buffy, and his cat Tolerance at home.

In order that many of Vernonâs family and friends from the Maine Fair Circuit can join in celebrating his life, a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2004, at 6:00 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale, ME.

Bruce A. Neal

PORTLAND - Bruce A. Neal, died Thursday, Sept. 9th at Maine Medical Center surrounded by his family. Bruce was born on June 25, 1945 in Haverhill, MA. He was raised in York Beach, ME and attended York schools. He served High School country in the U.S. Army Paratroopers from 1962 until 1965. He had been employed at CE Avery, York Hospital and the York School Department. He has been a member of the American Legion. Bruce enjoyed fishing, camping and the outdoors. He was also an independent contract painter.

He was predeceased by his father Norman Neal and his brother Dwight E. Neal in 2001. He is survived by his daughter Heather Szumita and husband John of Biddeford, his mother Sylvia Hathorne of York Beach, a brother Stuart W. Neal and wife Judy of Kittery, a sister Patricia A. Horning and husband James of Kittery, a sister in law Lucille Neal of Englewood, FL, a granddaughter Danielle Szumita of Biddeford and a close friend and companion, Susan Neal of Wells. Bruce also leaves several aunts, uncles, nieces and many cousins.

In lieu of flowers to help incurred expenses, donations may be made to the Bruce A. Neal Trust Fund at the York County Federal Credit Union, 1 York Street, York, ME 03909 or the American Red Cross.

A Memorial Service for family and friends will be held at the Union Congregational Church on Church Street in York Beach on Tuesday, September 21st at 11:00.

Theresa B. Werner

BIDDEFORD - Theresa B. Werner, 95, formerly of Stephen Eaton Apts., Wells, died Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at The Renaissance in Biddeford.

She was born November 21, 1908 in Boston, MA. daughter of Peter and Mary E. (Curtin) Bovoy.

Mrs. Werner worked for twenty-eight years as the chief telegraph operator for the John Hancock Insurance Company in Boston. She was the chief switchboard operator for thirteen years for the Morse Shoe Company in Canton, MA, retiring in 1974.

She is survived by a son, John Bovoy of Sanford and grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, Sept. 16 at 10:00 a.m. in Ocean View Cemetery, Wells. There are no visiting hours. Arrangements are by the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, York.

Elizabeth Hanson

OGUNQUIT - Elizabeth "Betty" (Rowe) Hanson, 87, of 22 Stearns Rd., Ogunquit, widow of Col. Arthur F. Hanson, U.S. Army, died Sept. 13, 2004 at York Hospital.

She was born on May 13, 1917 in Portland, the daughter of William J. and Pearl L. (Lang) Rowe and was a graduate of Portland High School. She was a 1939 graduate of the University of New Hampshire, receiving a bachelor of science degree and served her physical therapist internship at Walter Reed Army Hospital.

She was a privately contracted physical therapist for the U.S. Army during the 1940s. She later moved to the seacoast area and was a private duty physical therapist during the 1950s.

She had traveled and lived in many areas during her husband's military service and post-service career. She had lived in Puerto Rico, Panama, Concord and Plymouth, N.H. and most recently wintered in Long Boat Key, Fla.

She was an avid golfer and past president of the Cape Neddick Country Club Women's League and a member of the Ogunquit Women's Club. She enjoyed skiing, tennis and playing bridge. She was an active volunteer for many organizations including the UNH Alumni Association, American Cancer Society, Red Cross and for various activities at Plymouth State College. She was a chapel member of the Long Boat Island Chapel and a volunteer at the Lord's Warehouse in Long Boat Key, Fla.

She was predeceased by her husband, Col. Arthur F. Hanson, U.S. Army, who died in 1988.

Survivors include two daughters, Tina I. Virgin and her husband, Karl of Ogunquit and Kimberly H. Robinson and her husband, Bradford of York; two sisters, Nancy LaFond and her husband, Les of Ogunquit and Sally McQuade of Drakes Island; four grandchildren, Timothy Virgin, Amy Golden, Lindsay and Tanner Robinson; several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life was held Friday in the First Parish Congregational Church of York.

Earnest Southard

KENNEBUNK - Earnest George Southard, 81, died Sept. 20, 2004 at the Kennebunk Nursing Center in Kennebunk, after a brief illness.

Born in Chelsea to the late Charles H. and Mary (Pattee) Southard, he lived in Lynn for 11 years, Saugus for 47 years, and retired to Keywood Manor, Alfred, 17 years ago.

He graduated from Saugus High School in 1941. He served in both the Navy and the Army in World War II. He worked at Donovan's Florist in Saugus, and as a machinist at both the Navy Yard in Boston and at B Machine in Lynn. He retired in 1983 with 30 years of service as the General Manager of Triangle Tool and Die in Lynn, Mass.

He enjoyed woodworking, golf, and bowling.

He leaves his beloved wife of 60 years, Geraldine (Akeley) Southard; three children, Judith (Southard) and her husband Arthur Oestrich of Haverhill, Mass., E. George Southard Jr. of Hampton, N.H., Phyllis (Southard) and her husband Michael Linane of Saugus, Mass.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth (Southard) Witten, and one sister-in-law, Marjorie Southard, both of Saugus, Mass.; four cousins; and 10 nieces and nephews.

There will be a private memorial gathering at Keywood Manor Community Center in Alfred at a later date.

Beverly Webster

KITTERY - Beverly J. "Cookie" Webster, 62, of 96 Wilson Rd., died peacefully at her home surrounded by the love and comfort of her family on Sept. 18, 2004.

A lifelong resident of Kittery, she was born on Jan. 2, 1942 at her family's homestead on Wilson Road in Kittery, the daughter of the late William and Evelyn (Junkins) Pierce.

She grew up and raised her own family only a few short yards from the house where she was born and raised herself. She graduated from R.W. Traip Academy class of 1960.

During high school she met her beloved husband Richard L. Webster, whom she married in March 1962. Together they built their home and raised

two beautiful daughters together in Kittery, spending 42 wonderful years sharing life. She was a wonderful wife, mother, homemaker, grandmother, aunt and friend to many. She worked for many years at Eberle's Stationery in Portsmouth before it closed.

An avid gardener, she spent many hours in her flower and vegetable gardens and loved to do arts and crafts. She loved to play bingo at United Bingo in Portsmouth as well as at Dover Bingo. She enjoyed

spending time with family and was well known as the family reunion and party planner for the annual family Christmas party each year, a tradition she wishes to be carried on. Her favorite things were simple yet very important, such as walks on the beach, coffee walks around Portsmouth, and picnic lunches on Four Tree Island with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Richard; two daughters, Candace J. Gadapee and her partner Arthur C. Graves, of Eliot, and Bonnie L.

Webster of Kittery; one granddaughter, Cara M. Gadapee and her partner Katie Mack of Dover, N.H.; and one grandson, Sean J. Gadapee of Eliot.

She is also survived by four much-loved sisters and their husbands, Brenda E. Lawrence and her husband Walter of Kittery, Marilyn Collins and her husband of Berwick, Donna Johnson and her husband Robert of York, and Carolyn Leavitt of Kittery. She also leaves many close neices and nephews whom she cherished,

including Nancy Muchemore and family of Limerick, Bradley Beckert and wife, Georgie and family of Palatka, Fla., Gary Beckert and family of No. Carolina, Randy Beckert and wife Cheryl of Eliot, Angela Lawrence and partner Leigh Peake of South Berwick, Debbra Bohne and family of Portsmouth, N.H., Paul Lawrence of Kittery Point, Patricia Amergian and her partner Greg Hofsess and family of South Berwick, Steven Lawrence and wife Kimberly and family of Berwick, James Collins and wife Wendy and family of Kittery, Wendy Elagouhary and husband Mohamed and family of South Berwick, Julie Davis and husband Jay and family of South Berwick, Kelli Vetter and husband Keith of Berwick, Robert Pierce and wife Denise and family of Portsmouth, N.H.; Alan Pierce and wife Lisa and family of Kittery, Michael Johnson and wife Krista and family of York, Tammy Legassey and husband David and family of

Pensacola, Fla., and Danny Leavitt of Kittery. And always waiting for her at the door will be her beloved dogs, Mookie and Clyde and her cat, Bingo.

She was predeceased by her parents, William and Evelyn Pierce as well as her older sister, Evelyn Beckert and her younger brother Robert Pierce.

A funeral will be held at her church, St. Marks United Methodist Church on Government Street in Kittery today at 11 a.m.

Will Hills

KITTERY - Will Hills, 60 of Kittery Point, Maine and Brookline, Mass., passed away on Sept. 19, 2004. born in Florence, S.C. he was raised in New York City. A graduate of Bronx Science, Boston University and Harvard Business School, he was an officer in the United States Navy, serving three tours in Vietnam. In 1972, he founded Limitless Design, where he designed and built custom furniture, for the residential, commercial and liturgical markets. He also served as a member of the Massachusetts Cultural Council, Society of the Arts and Crafts, Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center, The Academy of the Pacific Rim and various other organizations. He taught woodworking at the Cambridge Center for Adult Education for more than 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Beth Segers; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Maddox of New York City; two brothers-in-law, Carl Segers and Joseph Segers; four adoring nieces and nephews, Natalie, Anne Marie, Charlie and Katharine; and many friends and associates.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be co-celebrated by Fr. John Ullrich and Fr. Real Nadeau on Friday at 11 a.m. at his church St. Raphael Parish Church on 6 Whipple Rd. in Kittery. Friends may visit with his family this evening from 7-9 p.m. and on Friday morning from 9-10:15 at the J.S Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Rd., Kittery, ME 03904.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to the Cambridge Adult Education Center, Brattle Street, Cambridge, MA.

Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.

Robrt Pease

KENNEBUNK - Robert W. Pease, 85, of Penny Lane, died Sept. 17, 2004 at Southern Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Newark, N.J. on July 6, 1919, the son of Henry F. and Marion (Voter) Pease.

He attended Newark schools and graduated from Columbia High School. He then attended and graduated from Worcester Polytechnical Institute where he received a bachelor's degree in chemistry. He also graduated from the University of New Hampshire where he earned his master's degree in teaching.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II in laboratory research while stationed in Silver Springs, Md. There, he met his wife, Eulah Noble who was also serving in the U.S. Navy. They married on Sept. 29, 1945.

Eulah died on April 17, 2004.

Following the war, he lived in Haddonfield, N.J., and worked in laboratory research at Hollingshead Chemical Company in Camden, N.J. The Pease family then moved to Morris Plains, N.J. in 1955 where he worked at the Shell Chemical Company in Elizabeth, N.J.

Beginning in 1960, he changed careers and taught high school chemistry and physics at the Morristown School in Morristown, N.J. and later at Parsippany High School in Parsippany, N.J. He was a dedicated teacher, committed to instilling a solid foundation of mathematics and science in his students.

After his retirement in the 1980s, he enjoyed maintaining rental cottages in Ocean Park, and enjoyed reading, historic research, furniture restoration, genealogy, and time spent with his friends and family and, in particular, his grandchildren.

The Peases summered in Ocean Park and moved from Morris Plains, N.J. to Saco in 1996, and then to the Atria assisted living facility in Kennebunk in 2003.

He is predeceased by two brothers, Harry and John; and a sister, Emily Morrill.

He is survived by one son, Robert W. Pease Jr. and his wife, Lynne of Chelmsford, Mass.; two grandchildren, Emily and Gregory Pease, both of Chelmsford; three nephews and two nieces, and their children and grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Wednesday at Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Southern Maine Medical Center, One Medical Center Dr., Biddeford, ME 04005.

Philip Tilton

WEST KENNEBUNK - Philip H. Tilton, 62, of Cole Road, died Sept. 18, 2004 at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

He was born Oct. 14, 1941 in Norwood, Mass., a son of Henry J. and Mae (Paulsen) Tilton.

He graduated from Story High School (Manchester-By-The-Sea, Mass.) with the class of 1959, and from Tufts University in 1963 and served in the U.S. Coast Guard for three years and was honorably discharged in 1966 as a Lt. Junior Grade.

He established P.H. Tilton Builders Inc. and served southern Maine in residential construction for 30 years.

He married Dawne Hayman on Nov. 3, 1978, and celebrated 25 years of marriage in 2003. He was a loving man, and dedicated to his family. He loved sailing, boats, woodworking, helping out his friends and family, and his faithful canine companion, Mitzi.

He is predeceased by his mother, Mae Tilton.

He is survived by his wife of West Kennebunk; his father of Kennebunk; three sons, Shaw Tilton of Lyman, Nathaniel of Reading, Mass., and Aaron Upton of Arundel; one daughter, Bethany of North Riverside of North Riverside, Ill.; three grandsons, Ryan and Nathan Upton of Arundel and Andrew Philip of North Riverside, Ill.; and his brother, Peter Tilton of Freeport.

Visiting hours will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at St. David's Episcopal Church, Route 1 in Kennebunk.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations in his name to one of the following charities, or to one of your choosing: National MS Society, Training and Resource Center, 700 Broadway, Suite 810, Denver, CO 80203-3442; Alzheimer's Association, 225 N.
