Stacy Billings

NORTH BERWICK - Stacy B. Billings, 72, formerly of Elm Street, passed away Nov. 6, 2004 at the Sanford Health Care Facility after a long illness.

He was born Jan. 18, 1932 in Eugene, Ore., a son of Stacy and Mae (Kennedy) Billings. He was a 1950 graduate of North Berwick High School and continued his education at the University of Maine.

He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He then worked as an engineer for Northrup Aviation as well as the Space Station in California.

He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Taurie Billings in 1968.

Surviving are one son, Bradburn Billings, one daughter, Laurie Billings, one grandson, Shane Billings, and one brother, Richard Bradburn, all of North Berwick; and many nieces and nephews.

At his request, there will be no service. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, North Berwick.

Friends who wish may contribute to the Alzheimer's Association, 163 Lancaster St., Suite 160B, Portland, ME 04101-2406.

Arrangements are in the care of the Johnson Funeral Home, North Berwick.

Muriel Dickson

WELLS - Muriel A. Dickson, 62, of Wire Road, died at her residence on Nov. 7, 2004.

She was born in Wells on July 18, 1942, the daughter of Alice M. Sayward and Homer Goodrich and was educated in Wells schools.

On June 12, 1982, she married Robert G. Dickson in Kennebunk.

She worked a few years with the Five-and-Dime store in Kennebunk, 10 years with Components in Biddeford and Kennebunk and for 20 years with Cyro Industries in Sanford.

She enjoyed knitting, vacationing in Canada and spending time with her family and friends.

She was predeceased by a daughter Lisa Hutchins on April 27, 2003.

Surviving are her husband of 22 years, Robert G. Dickson of Wells; one son, Craig S. Hutchins and his wife Roxanne, of Wells; one daughter, Tina Cole and her husband Robert, of Wells; one stepson, Gerald Dickson of Scarborough; one stepdaughter, Sandra Bjorkman of Salem, Ore.; two sisters, Janice Albison of Wells and Lois Woodman of Berwick; one aunt, Josephine Matthews of Gorham; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visiting hours. A memorial funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Wells Congregational Church in Wells. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Kennebunk.

Memorial donations may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, Inc., One Main Street, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086-1240.

Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005.

Margaret Good

ARUNDEL - Margaret A. Good, 86, a resident of Arundel, Maine, formerly of Arlington, Mass., died Nov. 3, 2004 in Biddeford, widow of Michael F. Good.

She was born in Boston, Mass. on Jan. 26, 1918, the daughter of Thomas and Mary E. (Gill) Enwright and attended Arlington schools.

She was employed by the Harvard Press of Boston for more than 30 years.

She moved to Maine in 1986 to be near her daughter. She was a member of 50 Plus Club and the Senior Citizen Center, all of Kennebunk.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by one son, Thomas Good of Medford, Mass. and Nancy Danylik whom she lived with of Arundel; two brothers, Thomas Enwright of Arlington, Mass. and Charles Enwright of West Dennis, Mass.; one sister, Granfield of Arlington, Mass.; and beloved grandmother of four grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was held Saturday at St Agnes Church in Arlington. Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.

Should friends desire memorial donation may be made to the Arundel Fire and Rescue, 468 Limerick Rd., Arundel, ME 04046 in her memory.

Robert Grogan

SOMERSWORTH, N.H. - Robert Allen Grogan, 83, of 20 Colonial Village, Somersworth, N.H., died on Nov. 4, 2004 at his home.

He was born in Kittery on Oct. 7, 1921, a son of Walter and Grace (Hutchins) Grogan of Traip Avenue in Kittery. He attended local schools including R.W Traip Academy. He was a foreman of the Supply Department at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in January 1982 after 36 years of employment. He served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II in the 43rd Bombardment Squadron for four years, discharged in 1946.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports and politics, reading three newspapers each day; he had many opinions of local and national news items. He coached the American Legion Little League team in Kittery for many years. In recent years he enjoyed doing geneology research.

He was predeceased by his wife Pauline (Watson) Grogan, and a brother William E. Grogan.

Survivors include his loving family who will miss him dearly; two sons, Thomas A. and his wife Janice Grogan, of Eliot, and Robert W. and his wife Michelle Grogan of Milford, N.H.; five grandchildren, Kendra Grogan and her husband Ethan Jule, of South Berwick, Cory Grogan of York, Adam Walter Grogan of Whitefish, Mont., Matthew Grogan of New York City, and Justin R. Grogan of Rye, N.H.; three great-grandchildren, Amelia Jule, Noah Jule and Jocelyn Grogan.

A graveside service was celebrated on Monday in Orchard Grove cemetery in Kittery.

In lieu of flowers, his family suggests donations be made in his memory to the Kittery Little League, C/O Jeff Edwards, 9 Payne Rd., Kittery Pt, ME 03904.

Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.

Inez Hutchins

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. - Inez (Cole) Hutchins, 93, originally of Eliot, died on Nov. 2, 2004 at Portsmouth Hospital.

She was the youngest of four children of Edwin and Villa Cole of Eliot.

She is pre-deceased by Elva Donnell, Franklin Cole, Hilda Moore, and Clarice Colson. She was married in 1939 to Raymond J. Hutchins also of Kittery. They lived briefly in New Castle before making their home at 11 Philbrook Rd., Kittery for 14 years.

She was the mother of four children, Carldon Hutchins of Rindge, N.H., Nathalie Bailey of South Orange, N.J., Warren Hutchins of Laconia, N.H. and Keith Hutchins of West Townsend, Mass.

Among her valued associations were the Rebekah Lodge, of which she was a past Grand Noble, the Mother's Club of Kittery, and Hancock Congregational Church in Lexington, Mass.

She especially loved to teach young children. She was sad if she didn't start school each September. She began her teaching career in a one-room school house in Freedom, N.H., after graduating from Portsmouth Normal School. She also taught in Madison, N.H. and Lexington, Mass.

When he transferred with NEGEA from Portsmouth, N.H. to Cambridge, Mass., he and his family moved to 2 Weston St., Lexington, Mass. where she lived for 16 years. She returned to live on Old Post Road, Kittery after Raymond died. Most recently she lived at Sunbridge of Portsmouth.

She in survived by her four children; eight grandchildren; and two great-grand-children. She was also blessed with many friends.

A service will be held on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Rd., Kittery. Interment will follow the service.

The family asks, in lieu of flowers, for donations be made in his name to a favorite charity.

Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.

Agnes Joyce

NORTH BERWICK - Agnes O. Joyce, 93, formerly of Lebanon Road, died peacefully on Nov. 4, 2004.

Born Feb. 26, 1911 in Worcester, Mass., she married Elmer L. Joyce in 1934. They moved from Pepperell, Mass., in 1959 to Dover, N.H. and remained there until 1992. After the death of her husband, she moved in with her daughter, Carolyn, in North Berwick and lived there until she needed the care of Varney Crossing Nursing Home in 2003.

As a teenager, she learned the piano and had the opportunity to perform over the radio. She enjoyed telling the story of how she met her husband, Elmer. They were at a social gathering and while sitting on a porch swing, he removed her shoe and wouldn't return it to her. They ended up missing the bus and had to walk several miles home together. Soon thereafter, they married and in the following years raised four children.

She was a member of Bethel Christian Church in North Berwick, where she was active for many years as pianist and missionary secretary / treasurer.

She was always known to have a sweet spirit. She enjoyed music and poetry and loved to sing silly songs with her grandchildren, for they were her blessings. She was famous for her Swedish meatballs and blueberry waffles. Crocheting afghans for her family was one of her joys. She was always busy helping her family, especially in the kitchen and laundry room.

Surviving are three sons, Donald and wife Charlene Joyce, of Richmond, Va., William and wife Judy Joyce, of Rome, N.Y., and Rev. Russell and wife Joanne Joyce, of New Milford, Conn.; one daughter, Carolyn and her husband Daniel Hashem, of North Berwick; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one brother, Walter Steelman of Holden, Mass.

She was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Elmer, of 57 years, and two brothers, William and Stanley Steelman of Worcester, Mass.

A funeral service was held Monday at the Bethel Christian Church, North Berwick, with Rev. Robert G. Cole Sr., officiating. Interment followed at the New Town cemetery in Rolinsford, N.H.

Arrangements are under the care of Johnson Funeral Home, North Berwick.

Friends who wish may contribute to the Varney Crossing Activities Fund.

Toniann LaFleur

NORTH BERWICK - Toniann LaFleur, 42, of Wells Street, passed away Nov. 5, 2004 at her residence.

She was born in Lawrence, Mass., Jan. 21, 1962, a daughter of Anthony and Beatrice ( Rumore) Finochiaro. She graduated from Sanford High School. For the past two years, she had worked as a financial assistant at Wentworth-Douglas Hospital in Dover, N.H.

She will be remembered as a happy person who loved life. She especially loved the relationship she shared with her son, Aaron.

She is survived by her husband of 10 years, James LaFleur and one son, Aaron Nadeau, both of North Berwick; two daughters, Tracy Borrelli of Somersworth, N.H. and Danielle Johnson of Exeter, N.H.; three brothers, Joseph Finochiaro of Florida, Perry Finochiaro of North Carolina and Mark Finochiaro of New Hampshire; two sisters, Kristi Turcotte of North Berwick and Marisa Powell of Florida; her mother, Beatrice Finochiaro and her long-time companion, George Lawlor of Florida.

An hour of visitation will be held today at 1 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market St., North Berwick, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery, North Berwick.

Christine Raines, MD

KENNEBUNKPORT - Christine (Waterhouse) Raines, 87, a resident of Goose Rocks Beach, Kennebunkport died Nov. 6, 2004 at the Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford after a brief illness.

She was born in Kennebunk on Dec. 19, 1916 to Homer Tarbox and Bessie (Harmon) Waterhouse.

She graduated from Mount Holyoke College and Columbia University School of Medicine. Upon graduation from medical school, she did her postgraduate training in internal medicine in Rochester, N.Y. and remained in practice at Strong Memorial Hospital where she directed the clinical research center. She was a professor of medicine at the University of Rochester where she served as a mentor and role for many young physicians. Upon retiring from the university in 1979 and she returned to Maine and established a medical practice in Biddeford where she was a member of the medical staff at Southern Maine Medical Center. She retired from the active practice of medicine in 1992 but continued her interest in medicine as a retired member of the medical staff. In 1992 she was awarded laureate status by the Maine State Chapter of the American College of Physicians.

She was an avid golfer and member of the Webhannet Golf Club of Kennebunk Beach.

She was predeceased by her husband John Raines III who died in 1992.

She is survived by her two daughters, Kristen Raines of Alexandria, Va. and Marilee Raines of Cape Elizabeth; one sister, Lois Kinney of Kennebunk; and two nieces, Carolyn Sherman of Bolboa Island, Calif. and Deborah Kinney of Goose Rocks Beach.

A funeral service was held Wednesday at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk.

Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Southern Maine Medical Center, 1 Medical Dr., Biddeford, ME 04005 in her memory.

Virginia Starnes

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. - Virginia Starnes, 71, of 245 Middle St. in Portsmouth, died on Nov. 2, 2004 at her home following a long illness.

She was born in Portsmouth on Oct. 14, 1933, the daughter of the late James and Priscilla (Faulkner) MacKenzie and attended local schools.

A lifelong resident of Portsmouth, she enjoyed her home and her work at the Starlite Club in Portsmouth until her retirement. There was a strong feeling of mutual enjoyment between her and the many customers she served over the years.

She was an avid reader and most recently enjoyed spending time on her computer, conversing with close friends and family.

Her survivors include two daughters, Gina and her husband Mark Phillips, of South Berwick, and Laura and her husband Daniel Glidden, of Las Vegas, Nev.; one son, Lawrence Massaro of Stratham, N.H.; two grandchildren, Tara Burgess and Corey Emery, and three great-grandchildren, Shane, Jenna and Kaitlin. She is also survived by her dear friends Bill Morton and Marilyn Brody.

A funeral was celebrated on Friday at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, Kittery. Burial took place next to her parents at Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Eliot.

Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.

Blanche Keller

KENNEBUNK - Blanche (Kirk) Keller, a resident of Wood Pond Lane, Kennebunk, died Oct. 30, 2004 in her home.

She was born in Bethlehem, Pa., a daughter of William and Blanche (Laughlin) Kirk. She graduated from Bethlehem Catholic High School.

She worked for many years and retired from the Office Design and Construction Department of Bethlehem Steel Corporation.

She spent many happy times in the Pocono Mountains with her husband of more than 40 years, Kenneth P. Keller. She also enjoyed reading and gardening. She was very fond of her two cats, Rusty and Tilley.

She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth, in 1985.

She is survived by one daughter, Karen Keller Kesling of Kennebunk; one granddaughter, Kristin Kesling of Kennebunk and Wheaton College in Norton, Mass.; and her extended family in Bethlehem, Pa.

Memorial donations may be made to: Kennebunk Free Library, 112 Main St., Kennebunk, ME 04043.
