Everett Howard

WEST KENNEBUNK – Everett Thomas Howard, 80, of West Kennebunk, died May 18, 2005, following a long illness.

He was born on July 25, 1924 in Hillsboro, N.H., the youngest child of Everett and Josephine (Vohnoutka) Howard. He attended schools in Hillsboro.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a truck driver for 40 years, working for Sterling 1946-53, Altas 1953-1973 and Roadway from 1973-86, when he retired.

He enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid hunter and fisherman, which he spent many hours with his son and grandsons. He was inducted into the “Big Buck’s of Maine” in 1953, when he shot a buck that was more than 200 pounds. He also enjoyed camping, which he and his family started doing in 1965, and continued doing until 1999. He was also a life-time member of the Fish and Game Club, Kennebunk, and a member of the Moose Lodge of Hillsboro, N.H.

He was a family man, devoted to his wife and children. He will be sadly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Velma; his three children and their spouses, Cheryl and Mark Laprel of Arundel, Lesley and Raymond Brown of West Kennebunk, and Ricky and Melissa Howard of Gilmanton Iron Works, N.H.; nine grandchildren, Timothy, Matthew and Lesley Searles, Holly, Heidi and Benjamin Brown, and Ricky, Brendan and Jacob Howard; and four great-grandchildren, Matthew Hanson, Darren Goodwin, Timothy and Kendrick Holbrook; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk on Saturday. Interment was in the Howard cemetery in West Kennebunk.

Donations, in his memory, can be made to the American Lung Association of Maine, 122 State St., Augusta, ME 04330.

Leo Driscoll Jr.

KENNEBUNKPORT – Leo I. Driscoll Jr., 87, a resident of Mills Road, Cape Porpoise, died May 19, 2005 as a result of an automobile accident in North Berwick.

He was born in Kennebunkport on Jan. 13, 1918, a son of Leo I. and Euleta Mae (Allen) Driscoll Sr. He graduated from Kennebunkport High School and graduated from Becker College, Worcester, Mass.

He was employed by the American Steel and Wire Company of Worcester, Mass. for several years then he served in World War II in Navy and Army.

After the war, he worked for the Diamond Match Company for several years before he became an office manager for King-Gagne Corp. of Natick, Mass. before retiring in 1978. He was a 60-year member of the DAV of Natick, Mass. and member of the Church on the Cape, Cape Porpoise.

After his retirement, he opened his own frame shop, the Cape Frame Shop in Cape Porpoise during the summer season. He enjoyed many hobbies.

He was predeceased by his wife Emily Driscoll, two brothers John and Irvan Driscoll, and a sister Mary Pease.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Diane Lee) Blank of Baltimore, Md.; one sister, Nancy Seymour of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Lisa Simms, Rebecca Blank and David Blank; and one grandson-in-law, Greg Simms and granddaughter-in-law, Kyleen Blank; and two great-grandchildren Maya Louise Blank and Layla Emily Blank.

A memorial service was held Tuesday at the Church on the Cape, Langsford Road, Cape Porpoise, with the Rev. Ruth Merriman officiating. Burial was held at the Arundel Cemetery, Kennebunkport.

Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association of Maine, 122 State St., Augusta, Me 04330, or to the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust, PO Box 7028, Cape Porpoise, ME 04014 or to the charity of one’s choice in his memory.

David Rolfe

TOGUS – David H. Rolfe, 68, formerly of Cape Porpoise, passed away at the Togus VA Medical Center after a long illness.

He was born Jan. 27, 1937 in Melrose, Mass., a son of Harold and Marie (Port) Rolfe. He graduated from Dover High School in Dover, N.H. in 1956. He then spent the next three years jumping with the 82nd Airborn in the U. S. Army. After his stint in the service he received his degrees from Bentley College in 1961 for accounting and finance and the School of Consumer Banking, University of Virginia in 1969.

He built his career in banking first with First National Bank of Portsmouth and then on to Ocean National, York County Savings / Coastal Savings, and finally, Key Bank. He was also the consumer credit examiner with the state of Maine Bureau of Consumer Credit Protection in Gardiner.

He was best known for the community service that he gave to the towns that he knew and loved. He was one of the founders of KEMS (Kennebunkport Emergency Medical Services). He received an award from the governor for his service to the EMS. In addition to his work establishing the ambulance service for Kennebunkport, he also was the Portsmouth Little League Coach, the Kennebunkport Little League Coach, on the board of directors for the Animal Welfare Society, the Recreation Commission, the Kennebunk MSAD71 School Board, involved with Kennebunkport Fire Department, Bibber Ambulance, KEMS Ambulance Service, a CPR Instructor, board of directors of Southern Maine EMS, York County Chief Association, bail commissioner, instructor at the American Institute of Banking, Rotary, Kennebunk Fire Society, and involved with the Antique Fire Association in Kennebunk.

One organiz ation that he particularly enjoyed and of which he was proud to be a card-carrying member, was the Kennebunkport Dump Association to which he was one of the vice presidents. He also enjoyed golfing with his friends.

Predeceasing him are his brother George Rolfe and his sister Mary Rizzo.

Surviving him are his wife, Barbara Snyder Rolfe of Litchfield; two sons, Chris Rolfe of Falmouth, and William Rolfe of Ayer, Mass.; one daughter, Elizabeth Joyal of Barnesveld, N.Y.; one sister, Ursula Moulton of York; seven grandchildren; and many nieces nephews and cousins.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday at St. Martha Church in Kennebunk. A private family burial followed the service in Arundel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to KEMS, PO Box 460 B, Kennebunkport, ME 04046 or to the Kennebunk Rotary Club, PO Box 888, Kennebunk, ME 04043.

George Spinney

KITTERY – George A. Spinney, 86, of Gerrish Island Lane in Kittery Point, died on May 18, 2005 at York Hospital, following a period of failing health.

A true Maine native, he was a lifelong Kittery Point resident, born on June 10, 1918, attended local schools, graduating from R.W. Traip Academy.

Following graduation, he served his country as a member of the United States Coast Guard.

He met and in July of 1943, married his loving wife Claire (Frederick) Spinney. Together they raised their family and made their home in Kittery Point.

He enjoyed his time spent lobster fishing on his boat ClarieM, of which he had three, the last a pleasure boat for he and his wife to enjoy after many years of working on the water.

His love of fishing carried through his professional life when in 1947 he founded and operated Chauncey Creek Lobster Pier, a local family-owned business in Kittery Point, currently owned and operated by his son.

He enjoyed outdoor activity, from his love of fishing, to time spent with friends and his son hunting in Wellington and Bridgeton, and snowmobiling throughout Maine. Just this last year he took part with his family in the annual Maine moose hunt.

He will be missed by those who knew and loved him including his loving wife of more than 60 years, Claire; one daughter, Sandy and her husband Ken Philbrick of Portsmouth, N.H.; one son, Ronald and his wife Jean Philbrick of Kittery Point; five grandchildren, Lynne Goodwin, Steve Spinney, Laurie Gaudreau, Cynthia Spinney-Perelli and Zachary Spinney; and his 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his cocker spaniel dog Brandy (muffin) who he enjoyed spoiling.

A funeral was celebrated at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, Kittery, on Monday with the Rev. Graham Alvord officiating.

Family flowers only; donations may be made in his memory to a charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.

Olivette Levesque

ELIOT – Olivette Eva Levesque, 84, of Libby Lane in Eliot, died on May 17, 2005 at Dover Rehabilitation and Living Center in Dover, following a period of failing health.

Born in Nashua, N.H. on July 26, 1920, she was a daughter of Ernest and Delia (Levesque) Delude. She attended local schools.

She met and in 1941, married her loving husband of many years, Robert P. Levesque Sr. Together they lived and raised their family in Hudson, N,H. until 1973 when they moved to the Kittery, Eliot area where they remained until their retirement in the late 1980s. Following retirement they moved to North Palm Beach, Fla., returning to summer in Kittery.

Her first love was undoubtedly her family, she enjoyed time spent with her children as they grew up and cherished the time spent with her grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters, Joan and her husband Richard Hawley, and Madeleine Levesque; one son, Robert Levesque Jr.; five grandchildren, Lisa Cole, Mychael Cole, Robert Levesque III, James Levesque, and Lynn Hawley; one sister, Mona Caron; and one brother, Paul Delude.

She was predeceased by her husband Robert P. Levesque Sr., sisters Lorraine Cadorette and Mary Jane Labonville and brothers Norman Delude and Ralph Delude.

Funeral services will be private at her family’s request.

Donations may be made in her memory to a charity of one’s choice.

John Searles

WELLS – John P. Searles, 80, of Branch Road, died May 18, 2005 at Southern Maine Medical Center following a brief illness.

He was born in Caribou on Dec. 12, 1924, a son of Jack E. and Ellen N. (Smith) Searles.

On Feb. 3, 1945, he married Isabelle Carson.

He worked for a time as a welder, but the majority of his career was spent as a long-haul trucker. He was a self-employed owner-operator for almost 30 years.

He proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps, followed by hitches in the Air Force, and the Navy.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Although he worked as a trucker, it was also his hobby and passion.

He was pre-deceased by two sisters, Margaret Holmes and Anna Searles and one brother, George Searles.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years of Wells; five sons, John Searles of Shelton, Conn., George Searles of Dallas, Texas, Thomas Searles of Waterboro, Al Searles of West Kennebunk and Gary Searles of Wells; four daughters, Janet Pernek of Monroe, Conn., Susan Wyllie of Milford, Conn., Linda Searles of Hollis, and Lois Searles of Wells; five brothers, Claude and Ronald Searles of Wells, Phillip Searles of East Rochester, N.H., Lloyd Searles of Sanbornville, N.H., and Donald Searles of Chelsea, Maine; four sisters, Ruth Fleming of Kennebunk, Grace Hilton of Wells, Vivian Parker of Farmington, N.H., and Lois Martin of El Paso, Texas; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk, Saturday with Pastor Peter W. Leon officiating. Burial with military honors followed in Pine Hill Cemetery, Wells.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to: Beacon Hospice, 42 Brickyard Court, York, ME 03909.

KENNEBUNK – Carlita M. Smith, 68, a resident of Haley’s Woods, Kennebunk, died Jan. 24, 2005 at the Kennebunk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kennebunk.

A graveside service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterboro.

Marian Whelton

A memorial service will be held in honor of Marian Lee Whelton on Saturday June 4 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Chapel, Kennebunk Beach.

Sally Goodwin

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. - Sally Ann Goodwin, 65, of Somersworth, N.H., died on April 16, 2005 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

She was born on Oct. 13, 1937 in Attleboro, Mass., daughter of John E. and Mary (Martin) Gaffney. She was a graduate of Attleboro High School.

She volunteered for the American Red Cross and was an active Air Force family volunteer at a number of bases where her husband and their family were stationed. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi and a member of the Somersworth Historical District Commission for nearly 16 years, and the Works Athletic Club. She worked for a time as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone.

She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her, including her loving husband, George C. Goodwin; one daughter, Theresa LaMarca and her husband Michael of Kittery; two sons, Michael A. Goodwin of Dover, N.H., and Steven Goodwin and his wife Carol Ann of Florida; four sisters, Fran Mancini of East Greenwich, R.I., Lois Sabia of Clearwater, Fla., Louise Arone of Harwich, Mass., and Meg (Marilyn) Needham of Duxbury, Mass.; eight grandchildren, Mark, Paul, Nicole, and Stevie Goodwin, Francesca Guerrero, and Sarah, Jim, and John Lamarca; her long-time friend Barbara Graham; and her sister-in-law Marion, who was responsible for bringing her and George together and her husband William Goodwin.

A funeral will be held today at 10 a.m. at St. Raphael’s Catholic Parish on Whipple Road in Kittery.

Family flowers only. Donations may be made in her memory to a charity of one’s choice.

WELLS - Joseph V. Detullio, 87, a longtime resident of Wells, died March 4, 2005 at Sentry Hill in York. A graveside service will be held at Ocean View Cemetery, Wells on Monday at 10 a.m.

James O’Brien

KITTERY - James Edward O’Brien, 70, of Fernald Road in Kittery, died on April, 12, 2005 at his home surrounded by those he loved.

He was born on Sept 18, 1934 in Northampton, Mass., a son of James and Hazel (Pierce) O’Brien; he attended local schools graduating from Smith Vocational School in Northampton.

He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952 and served in Korea during the hostilities as an air policeman. During his 24-year Air Force career he also served tours in California, Florida, Alaska, New York, Iran, and New Hampshire before retiring as a senior master sergeant at Pease Air Force Base, N.H. in 1978. His military awards and decorations include, among others, two Meritorious Service Medals and three Air Force Commendation Medals in recognition of his dedicated service to his country.

Following his Air Force career, he was employed by the United States Postal Service as a mail handler at Portsmouth, N.H. and as a window and distribution clerk at the Kittery office. After 17 years with the postal service he retired in 1996.

He was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Kittery and was active on various committees since becoming a member in 1973. He also was a member of the Seacoast Retired Military Bowling League, the Retired Enlisted Association and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He was an avid fisherman, both fresh and salt water, and a day of fishing with him could always be guaranteed to be an adventure, especially to those who were fortunate to spend time with him enjoying a day on the water.

His first love was that of his entire family, particularly his five grandchildren. He also enjoyed bowling and time spent working on projects around the house, watching the Patriots on television; this past year brought him great joy seeing his Boston Red Sox win the World Series, seeing the rings presented and the banner raised.

He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him, including his loving wife Ruth (White) O’Brien, with whom he would have celebrated 50 years of marriage in July. He is also survived by two sons and their wives, Michael and Vicki O’Brien of South Berwick, and David and Deborah O’Brien of Kittery; five grandchildren, Lindsay, Brady, Sierra, Kyle and Dayna; one sister, Patricia Faszcza of Leesburg, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral was held on Saturday at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, Kittery.

Family flowers only; his family suggests donations may be made in his memory to his church, St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 60 Government St., Kittery, ME 03904.

Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.
