William Crowley

OLD ORCHARD BEACH -- William H. Crowley, Jr., 54, of Westland Avenue, died Thursday (listed Saturday, February 26, 2000) at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

He was born in Lynn, Mass., March 7, 1945, son of William H. and Edith L. (Kemp) Crowley. He was educated in Old Orchard Beach schools and graduated from Old Orchard Beach High School in 1964.

While still in high school, Mr. Crowley started lobstering during the summer months in Harpswell while living with his family. Following graduation, he served with the U.S. Navy.

After his discharge from the Navy, he was self-employed as a commercial lobsterman for many years until ill health forced his retirement in 1988. During the 1970's, he served as a York County deputy sheriff.

He was a member of St. Margaret's Parish.

Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Rita M. (Nadeau) Crowley of Old Orchard Beach; a son, Carlton W. of New York state; a daughter, Edith L. of Gorham; a sister, Sharon A. Lambert of Biddeford; nieces, nephews and several cousins.

Mary Doliber

SPRINGVALE -- Mary (Boggis) Doliber of Marblehead, Mass., formerly of Springvale, died Friday (listed Saturday, February 26, 2000) at her home. She was the wife of the late Earl L. Doliber Jr., with whom she had shared 46 years of marriage.

Born and raised in Marblehead, she was the daughter of the late Clifford and Bertha (Fader) Boggis. She graduated Marblehead High School in 1942. In addition to being a homemaker, Mrs. Doliber had been a bank teller, medical admittance clerk and telephone operator.

She accompanied her husband during his military career to Japan, Italy, Germany, and several duty stations in the United States.

She was a member of the Officers' Wives Club, U.S. Army; and Grey Lady and Red Cross Volunteer.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Porter D. Boggis and Clifford G. Boggis.

She is survived by two sons, Dana of Sanford and Mark of Rochester, N.H.; three daughters, Sandra E. Campbell of Salem, Mass., Julie E. Ingram of Newport, N.C., and Shelley A. Moon of Webster, Texas; twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

George Lariviere

SACO -- George A. Lariviere, 90, of Raymond and formerly of Saco, died Friday (listed Saturday, February 26, 2000) at Ledgewood Manor in Windham.

He was born in Biddeford Aug. 26, 1909, a son of Edward and Mary Gendron Lariviere and attended Biddeford High School.

Mr. Lariviere was a carpenter most of his working life and worked for Henry Picard Construction and for Pepperell Mfg. He was an accomplished violinist, having studied music for seven years. He played both symphonic music and jazz, performing with Painchaud's Band of Biddeford, and the South Portland Shipyard Band, among others. He also performed concert music for the Works Progress Administration.

He also made violins.

He was a communicant of Lady Perpetual Church of North Windham.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Yvonne (Breton) Lariviere of Raymond; a sister, Doris Aube of Florida; several nieces and nephews.

Victor Sampson

LYMAN -- Victor H. Sampson, 75, a resident of Beech Street and formerly of Kennebunk, died Thursday (listed Saturday, February 26, 2000) at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford after a brief illness.

Mr. Sampson was born in Springfield, Mass., on April 25, 1924, a son of Walter H. and Ruby Pearl Wakefield Sampson.

He attended Kennebunk High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific on amphibious landing craft as a gunner's mate.

Mr. Sampson was employed by the Quality Press and the Kennebunk Star for over 48 years in the printing business and loved his work.

He had been a member of the Kennebunk Fire Department serving as a driver for many years, retiring several years ago.

As an avid outdoorsman Mr. Sampson enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping. He also loved spending time with his family.

He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years Bernice M. Sampson who died on Feb. 11, and by a daughter, Nancy J. Sampson, who died in 1967.

He is survived by two sons Dennis 'Smokey' Sampson of Lyman and Wayne R. Sampson of Kennebunk; two sisters, Arlene Young of Kennebunk and Barbara Edgerly of Vero Beach, Fla.; one brother, Albert Bouvier Jr. of Victorville, Calif.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

LARIVIERE

GEORGE A., of Raymond, formerly of Saco, died Feb. 25, 2000 in Windham. Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Cote Funeral Home, Beach and James streets, Saco. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Monday at Notre Dame de Lourdes Church, Saco. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Biddeford.

DOLIBER

MARY, formerly of Springvale, died Feb. 25, 2000 in Marblehead, Mass. Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Waterside Cemetery in Marblehead, with the Rev. Kevin Bean of St. Andrews Episcopal Church officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend. If inclement weather, services will be held in the cemetery chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA, 01923.

SAMPSON

VICTOR H., of Lyman died Feb. 24, 2000 in Biddeford. Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Bibber Memorial Chapel 67 Summer St., Kennebunk, where a funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Joseph Ford officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Kennebunk. Should friends desire, donations in Mr. Sampson's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, Maine Division Inc., 52 Federal St., Brunswick, Me., 04011, or to the Kennebunk Fire Department, 1 Summer St., Kennebunk, Me., 04043. Arrangements by the Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk.

CROWLEY

WILLIAM H., JR., of Old Orchard Beach died Feb. 24, 2000 in Biddeford. There will be no visiting hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., in St. Margaret's Church, the Rev. Normand E. Carpentier, celebrant. Interment will be in the spring in the family lot, Riverside Cemetery, Lewiston. Arrangements are by the Old Orchard Beach Funeral Home, 36 Portland Ave., Old Orchard Beach.

BRANDT,

OTTO C., of Waterboro died Feb. 25, 2000 in Biddeford. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 61 Main St. Springvale, where a funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m., the Rev. Chandler Holmes officiating.

CHABOT

MADELEINE D., 54, of New Dam Road, Sanford, died Feb. 23, 2000 at her home after a brief illness. Visiting hours will be 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford. A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Malcolm Ave. in Sanford on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. Burial will be in the spring. Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford.

Raymond Dumont
EAST WATERBORO — Raymond Dumont, 58, of Old Alfred Road, died Wednesday (listed Friday, April 4, 2003) at Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Biddeford Jan. 4, 1945, the son of Romeo and Pauline Gallagher Dumont, and graduated from Thornton Academy in 1963.

In July of 1967 he married Linda Hubert.

Mr. Dumont worked for S.D. Warren for over 15 years, retiring in 1996 due to ill health.

Ray was a member of Jaycees, the Rochambeau Club, a charter member of the Waterboro Eagles and was a 22-year member of the United States Reserves. He was also an altar server for Most Holy Trinity, a communicant of St. Matthew’s Church in Limerick, where he served as a Sunday usher, and a member of the St. Matthew’s Knights of Columbus. He also volunteered as a mentor at Sweetser Children Services in Saco.

Mr. Dumont loved spending time with his sons at Bruins games, traveling, playing cards with friends and being surrounded by is family. He always had a smile on his face and will be remembered for his generosity and outstanding and outgoing personality.

Ray is predeceased by a son, Jamie, his father, and a brother, William.

Surviving are his wife of over 35 years; two sons, Randy S. of Buxton and Scott A. of Sanford; his mother of Saco; two sisters, Jacqueline D. Foley and Margaret Callahan, both of Saco; and five grandchildren, Tiffany, Alexandria, Courtney, Kira, and Caitlin.

Robert Cormier
SACO — Former resident Robert J. Cormier of East Hartford, Conn. died unexpectedly Monday (listed Friday, August 8, 2003).

Born in Saco in 1933, he lived most of his life in Connecticut, visiting his beloved Maine frequently. He was a member of Thornton Academy’s Class of 1953.

Mr. Cormier was a four-year Air Force veteran.

Retired from Pratt and Whitney Aircraft since 1995, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, woodworking and following the University of Connecticut Huskies. Family members said he will be greatly missed by his constant companion and Rocky, truly a man’s best friend.

His sister, Florence Grace, died previously.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Marilyn; a daughter, Deborah (Mrs. Skip) Willson; two sons, Daniel and Scott; and a brother, Raymond of California.

Clifford Allen
ALFRED — Long time resident Clifford “Kippy” Harvey Allen, 82, died Wednesday (listed Friday, October 3, 2003) at his home.

He was born in Alfred March 20, 1921, the son of Ernest and Agnes (Whitehouse) Allen, and graduated from the former Alfred High School.

Mr. Allen served during World War II as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force as a gunner. He received the Purple Heart and the Air Medal with two clusters as a result of service in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater.

He was employed for the U.S. Postal Service in the Alfred Post Office for 38 years.

He was an avid gardener and enjoyed taking care of his large lawn. He was devoted to his family, and enjoyed playing chess with friends and in tournaments. Over the years, he enjoyed the Rangeley area when his children were young. He also enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, Oklahoma and Texas, and for many years he kept a summer home on Swan Pond in Lyman, where he liked to fish. He was a 50-year member of Brown-Emmons American Legion Post #134, Alfred.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Jessie (Bickford) Allen; a son, Stephen of Limington; two daughters, Joan (Mrs. Gerry) Rand of Alfred and Sharon (Mrs. Kendall) Dowe of Oklahoma; a brother, Ralph of Alfred; a sister, Margaret Johnson of Portland; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Raymond Faucher
BIDDEFORD — Raymond E. Faucher, D.M.D., 77, died at his home Wednesday (listed Friday, November 29, 2002) after a short illness.

He was born Dec. 22, 1924 in Biddeford, a son of Eddy and Jeanne Pelletier Faucher. He graduated from St. Louis High School in Biddeford, St. Michael’s College in Winooski, Vt. and Tufts University Dental School in Boston, Mass.

Dr. Faucher served in the Dental Corps during WWII; he also served a two and a half year dental externship in oral surgery and prosthetics at Chelsea Veterans Hospital.

After the war, he was a catcher on the local semi-professional St. Andre’s Apostles baseball team, where he had played against the future president, George H. W. Bush, of the Kennebunkport Collegians.

On April 24, 1952, he married Theresa Provencher at St. Joseph’s Church in Biddeford.

A member of St. Joseph’s Church, Dr. Faucher had served St. Michael’s College for nine years as an associate trustee. Practicing dentistry in Biddeford for 40 years, he was a member of the York County, Greater Portland, Maine and New England dental associations, and was also a life member of the American Dental Association.

Dr. Faucher and his wife traveled extensively throughout Europe, Central and South America, Mexico, Canada and the United States. His hobby was the study of foreign languages, and he could speak five languages. After retiring from dentistry in 1990, he took up oil painting in order to keep his fingers nimble.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years; three sons, Robert R. of Biddeford, Roger H. of Chatham, Mass. and Paul R. of Steuben; a daughter, Lucille Faucher–Kuhlman of Skowhegan; a brother, Norman R. of Biddeford; a sister, Rita Faucher Huot of Biddeford; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Jerry Simpson
BIDDEFORD — Jerry Charles Simpson, 50, of Hercules, Calif., died Sunday (listed Friday, February 14, 2003).

Born in Biddeford on Oct. 6, 1952, he had been a resident of Hercules for a year, having moved from the East Coast.

He was very proud of his military service, retiring after serving 20 years in the U.S. Army.

Jerry worked the last seven years for the Veterans’ Administration, six of which he spent in Washington, D.C. and the last year in Oakland, Calif.

He was a family man, spending free time with his children, collecting Hot Wheels, coins and stamps.

Surviving are his wife of 13 years, Debra Ann Risper-Simpson; four children, Cornell Risper III, Ashley, Chelsea and Nathaniel; his mother, Patricia, and stepfather Paul 'Toot' Langlais; father and stepmother, Raymond 'Shrimp' and Carleen; five siblings, Deborah (Mrs. Rodney) Laurendeau, Diana (Mrs. Paul) Legere, Kelly (Mrs. David) Ste. Marie, and Scott, all of Maine, and Pamela (Mrs. Steve) Weinert of New York; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins.
