Jeanne Kimball

YORK — Jeanne (Roberts) Kimball “Robbie,” 84, passed away on Feb. 15, 2006.

Born in 1921, she attended New York schools, graduated from Stamford High School in Stamford, Conn. and later graduated from the Yale School of Nursing, The Greenwich Hospital School of Nursing, and the Newtown Psychiatric Institute in Newtown, Conn. Her nursing specialty was psychiatric nursing.

Married to the late Edwin Kimball in 1943, they would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary later this year.

She leaves one son, Lee Kimball of South Portland; one daughter, Lynn Kimball Gruber of Upton, Mass.; and three grandchildren, Max, Mitch and Jeff Gruber.

She was a member of the First Parish Congregational Church in York where she taught Sunday school and worked on the annual church fair for several years. She was a member of the York Garden Club; Olde York Historical Society; York Golf and Tennis Club and a passionate member of the Ten No Trump Duplicate Bridge Club. During her children’s school years, she was active in school events such as class mother, music boosters and numerous other school activities. Later in life, she and Edwin spent many winters in Portugal, Florida and Tucson.

She was an avid swimmer, golfer, and bridge player. She enjoyed reading, and quilting, will be remembered for her typical Yankee dry sense of humor, love and concern for nature and the environment, her contributions to the community and to her family. As she often noted, she was the only member of the Kimball family to record a hole-in-one.

A memorial service was held Saturday at First Parish Congregational Church, York.

Tessie Milton

WELLS — Tessie E. Milton, 86, of Post Road, Wells, died Feb. 17, 2006, at the Greenwood Center in Sanford.

She was born in the Bronx, N.Y., on Sept. 8, 1919, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Ladopolous) Economos. She attended and graduated from New York schools and had lived in Massachusetts before moving to Wells in 1970.

She was active in the Order of the Eastern Star and Republican Town Committee in Massachusetts. She was also a member of St. David’s Church in Kennebunk where she served on its Altar Guild, and was an active worker on various charities. She also volunteered at the Wells Public Library when it opened.

Her husband of 56 years, Peter S. Milton, died in 1996. She is also predeceased by her brother, William Economos.

Surviving are two daughters, Anne Milton of Springvale, and Helen Smith of Bridgton; three grandchildren, Reid Irwin of Standish, Elizabeth Irwin of Bridgton, and Tristan Smith and his wife Nicole of Sebago; and a great-grandson, Ian Smith of Sebago.

A funeral service was held at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, Wells, on Monday with Rev. Dan Riggall officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Ocean View cemetery in Wells.

If desired, donations can be made in her memory to St. David’s Church, 138 York St., Kennebunk, ME 04043 or to the Another Chance Animal Rescue, PO Box 552, North Berwick, ME 03906.

Rhonda Stillings

NORTH BERWICK —Rhonda A. Stillings, 54 , of Lebanon Road, passed away peacefully Feb. 17, 2006, at her niece and nephew’s residence in Wells, after a courageous battle against cancer.

She was born Oct. 15, 1951, in Rochester, N.H., the daughter of Forrest and June (Prescott) Stillings. She was a 1969 graduate of Noble High School in Berwick, then graduated Andover College in Dover, N.H. in 1971, with an associate’s degree in business. She had worked for the Hannaford Supermarkets for over 25 years.

She was a generous benefactor for the North Berwick Christmas Project, which assists local families in times of need. She also enjoyed attending the theater, traveling, the beach and shopping. She especially enjoyed the time she shared with her great-nieces and nephews.

She is survived by a special nephew, Joel Littlefield, his wife, Katy and their four children, Derek, Connor, Mikaela and Kira, of Wells; her special friends, Deborah Pentilla of Center Barnstead, N.H., Danielle Stenson of Dover, N.H., and Helen Marlowe of Hudson, Fla.; two half-sisters, Noelle Littlefield and Jewel Moore, both of North Berwick; and one half-brother, Wilfred Vachon of Sanford; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A funeral was held on Wednesday, at Bethel Christian Church, North Berwick,.

Friends who wish may contribute to the North Berwick Christmas Project, P.O. Box 312, North Berwick, ME.

Spring Interment will be in the Stillings Private cemetery in North Berwick.

Louis Ulm III

YORK — Louis P. Ulm III, 59, of 48 Birch Hill Road died Feb. 19, 2006, at home following a long illness. He leaves his wife, Michal (Winton) Ulm; two sons, Christopher R. Ulm of Salt Lake City, Utah and Joshua S. Ulm and his wife Kristina Griffith of San Rafael, Calif.; one brother, David W. Ulm of Natick, Mass.; one sister, Ann Marie Jaggi of Grass Valley, Calif.; and nieces and nephews.

He was born in Newton, Mass., son of Louis P. and Antoinette A. (Centrone) Ulm Jr. He graduated from Weston High School, class of 1963, and Ricker College in Houlton, Maine. He served in the Air Force during Vietnam. He was the former owner and operator of the Yankee Stripper in Wells. He was an Eagle Scout, a member of the Kappa Beta Fraternity and Who’s Who in America in 1969-1970. He was also a member of COMSCC and the SAAC.

A funeral service for him will be held in the spring. Memorial calling hours will be held today from 5-8 p.m. in the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York.

Percy Poirier

NORTH BERWICK — It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that his family announces the passing of Percy Linwood Poirier, 87, the eldest and remaining son of the late Joseph Edward Poirier and Amy (Glover) Poirier, born July 8, 1918, in Ipswich, Mass.

He was predeceased by seven brothers and two sisters. He enjoyed music and art. He played the xylophone and vibraphone in a band that performed in nightclubs in the 1930s. He was known for his excellent sense of humor and was a gifted story teller drawing on his world travels and colorful adventures. Even in his prolonged illness he had a twinkle in his eyes and a smile on his face.

A five-star battle veteran of World War II with the United States Navy, he also had traveled the world with the British Merchant Marines. He drove tractor / trailers for more than 35 years well into his 70s. His greatest joy was traveling the open roads around the country. He made his last cross-country trip from Arizona to Maine in his van at the age of 85.

He resided with his eldest son, Dennis Poirier and his girlfriend Helen Marris, at their home and gallery in North Berwick, for 10 months before his health declined.

He is survived by his four sons, Dennis, Paul of Littleton, Colo., Dana and Michael both of Gloucester, Mass.; three sisters, Ruth Dyresen of Fla., Lila Cooper and Betty Saulnier of Calif.; and four grandchildren, Devyn, Nicole, Costanza, and Aidan.

Special thanks to the staff of Dover Rehab and the Kennebunk Nursing Home for their care and compassion our father received in his final days.

Richard Sullivan

LYMAN — Richard P. Sullivan, Esquire, passed away at his home on Dec. 22, 2005, surrounded by his loving family. His death came after a year-long battle with cancer.

He came into the world Nov. 5, 1942, in Skowhegan, the fifth of nine children born to Dr. George E. and Ellen (Constantine) Sullivan.

He was a 1960 graduate of Lawrence High School, graduated from Farmington State Teacher’s College (U Maine Farmington), taught at the Frisbee Memorial School in Kittery and subsequently enlisted in the United States Army.

He is survived by Pamela, his soul mate and wife of 39 years; his son Matthew, daughter-in-law Cyndi, and grandson Finnegan of Los Angeles, Calif.; daughter Lauren and son-in-law Adam of Portland; sister Elizabeth Elholm and husband John of E. Madison; brother William Sullivan and wife Margaret of Grantham, N.H.; brother Lawrence Sullivan and wife Jeanne of Boothbay; brother George Sullivan and wife Claudia of Yarmouth; sister Ann Fernald and husband Richard of Farmington; sister Barbara Sullivan of South Solon, Maine; sister Jane Gorra and husband David of Manlius, N.Y.; brother Mark Sullivan of Austin, Texas; brother-in-law Peter Strauss and wife Sara of Wayne, N.J.; 24 nieces and nephews; and a loving community of dear, dear friends who have provided so much love and support to the Sullivan family.

A celebration of his life was held Wednesday at the Atlantic Hall, Cape Porpoise.

Antigone Ganellas

OGUNQUIT —Antigone J. “Tiggie” Ganellas, 89, of Ogunquit, died Dec. 26, 2005, peacefully at Pine Point Nursing in Scarborough.

She was born Sept. 29, 1916, in Lowell, Mass., a daughter of Jerasimos and Thomai (Demetrakoulakou) Mekelatos. She graduated from the Lowell High School where she was the captain of the ROTC program. She also attended Greek school, where she spoke fluent Greek.

She was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Portsmouth, N.H. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star for many years. She enjoyed music and played the organ and piano. She loved her family and enjoyed traveling with her husband in the off-season.

She was probably best known for her restaurant in Ogunquit, Valerie’s. She and her husband Constantine (The Captain) opened Valerie’s Restaurant in 1947. She loved running the business and always looked forward to re-opening in the spring when the first of “My People” would start to arrive. Mrs. G., as her staff affectionately called her, touched many of her employees’ lives. Her restaurant antics will remain forever as Ogunquit folklore. Her former clientele will always remember her greeting them at the door with a “Hello Doll.” To her, her restaurant was her living room, and every night she welcomed her customers into her home.

She was predeceased by her husband, Constantine, in 1986; brothers Aristedis (Ted) and Constantine (Charlie); and sisters Sphigenia (Virginia), Andronike (Niki), and Anastasia (Sula).

She is survived by one daughter, Valerie and her husband, Ray Saulnier; one sister, Evelmine (Evelyn) Scozzafava; two grandchildren, John A. Saulnier and Marc R. Saulnier; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Christian; and many nieces and nephews.

GANELLAS — A memorial service for Antigone Ganellas will be held today at 2 p.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells.

Karl Goodwin

WEST KENNEBUNK —Karl Elwin Goodwin, 79, of Alfred Road, West Kennebunk, died Dec. 26, 2005, at the Kennebunk Nursing Home.

He was born July 15, 1926, in Alfred, a son of Benjamin and Mollie (Burleigh) Goodwin. He attended local schools. He worked at the Seabrook Nuclear Plant, Saco Tannery, and Kesslen Shoes for many years. He also developed his own trash run and his truck was a familiar sight around Kennebunk. He also delivered the Journal Tribune for many years in the Kennebunk area.

He belonged to the Arion Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Goodwins Mills. He was also a member of the Saco Grange.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening.

He was pre-deceased by his wife, Laurette, in 2003; a son, Lee David Goodwin in 1979; two brothers, Rev. Harley Goodwin, and Benjamin Goodwin Jr.; 1 sister, Lucille Royal Goodwin.

Survivors include two sons, Dale Nathan Goodwin of West Kennebunk and Mark Wayne Goodwin of Boise, Idaho; two daughters, Robin Milliard of West Kennebunk and Donnamarie Stackpole of Kennebunk; four brothers, Linwood and Leo Goodwin, both of Dayton, Clinton Goodwin of Arundel, and Glen Goodwin of Chatham, N.Y.; and one sister, Ruth Flwelling of Aroostook County.

GOODWIN — Visiting hours for Karl Elwin Goodwin are today from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk, during which a Masonic service will be conducted at 7 p.m. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk.

Marie Higgins

KENNEBUNK — Marie F. Higgins, 77, of High Street, died Dec. 22, 2005, at her residence.

She was born in Cambridge, Mass. on Aug. 26, 1928, a daughter of Robert E. and Mary B. (Clancy) Murphy.

She attended St. Mary’s and Sacred Heart schools in Cambridge.

She worked at Corning Morningstar in Kennebunk for several years, and was a communicant of St. Martha Church where she also served as Eucharistic minister for many years.

She was a past member of the American Legion Post 159 Auxiliary, and a past member of the Lower Village Mothers Club. Her family was her life and she also enjoyed watching the Red Sox.

She was predeceased by her husband, Clifford J. Higgins who died in 1995. She is also predeceased by a daughter, Ann-Marie Higgins, who died in 1951 and a twin sister, MaryLou Fowler.

Surviving are two sons, James C. of Kennebunk and John J. and his wife Leif Ann of Oxford; two daughters, Elizabeth A. Suzor and husband Richard of Kennebunk and Linda Mattuchio and husband Richard of Kennebunkport; one brother, Joseph Murphy of Winchester, Mass.; one sister, Ann Wentworth of Bridgewater, Mass.; and 10 grandchildren, Todd and Ryan Mattuchio, Neil and Eric Higgins, Jamie and Cara Suzor, Curtis, David and John Higgins Jr. and Derek Searles; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass was celebrated Tuesday at St. Martha Church, Kennebunk.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Beacon Hospice, 42 Brickyard Ct., York, ME 03909.

Arrangements are by Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk.

Robert James

WESTBROOK — Robert Wellington James, 87, died peacefully Dec. 15, 2005, at home.

He was born in Boston, Mass., son of Frederick Bangs and Lucile (True) James. He graduated from Lexington High School and attended Northeastern University. He served on a fleet oiler in the Pacific for more than five years and took part in nine campaigns.

For 30 years he traveled the East coast as a coated-fabric technical salesman. He was involved in early developments in the fabrication of inflatable life vests, rafts, and escape slides for airplanes, and the material for the Telstar Radome installed at Andover, Maine.

Predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Helen MacConney James; one son, Robert W. Jr.; one daughter, Joanne W. James.

Surviving are three sons, Ronald F. of Durham, N.H., William P. of Fremont, N.H., Jonathan M. of Berwick; four daughters, Lucile Bonet of Vernon, Conn., Linda O’Connor of Windham, Christine James of Boston, Mass. and Jennifer Grant of Westbrook; two brothers, Frederick and Henry; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers donations in his name to the American Cancer Society, One Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.

Malcolm Morgrage Jr.

WELLS — Malcolm E. Morgrage Jr., 62, of Meetinghouse Road, died Dec. 23, 2005, at York Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Quincy, Mass. on July 13, 1943, a son of Malcolm E. and Alberta J. (McKeon) Morgrage Sr.

He graduated from York High School in the class of 1961, and also graduated from New Hampshire Technical Institute.

He married Emma Hutchins in 1973. Together, they have owned and operated the Wells Sunoco Station for 34 years.

First and foremost, he enjoyed his friends and family, and also enjoyed fishing, race cars, boating, and camping.

Surviving are his wife of Wells; one son, James Malcolm Morgrage of Boston, Mass.; two daughters, Joanne Morgrage of Pembrook, N.H. and Melinda Morgrage of Wells; one brother, David of North Fort Myers, Fla.; one sister, Marjorie Page of Wells; four nieces and one nephew.

A memorial service was held Wednesday at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the York Hospital, 15 Hospital Dr., York, ME 03909.
