George Jandro

PITTSFIELD, Mass. —George Robert Jandro, 76, of Pittsfield, Mass., died April 6, 2006.

Born June 23, 1929, he was a graduate of St. Michael’s College and served in the Army during the Korean War.

He was employed as director of quality control for Pfizer corporation for 28 years.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Pittsfield, and a member of the Dalton (Mass.) American Legion and the Wahconah Country Club (Dalton). He was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He leaves his wife, the former Blanche Shultz, whom he married Oct. 22, 1955. He is also survived by two sons, Edward J. Jandro of Pittsfield, Mass., and Mark G. Jandro of Kennebunk; two daughters, Maryanne Keegan and Christine Russell, both of Pittsfield; one sister, Rosemary Conant of Pittsfield, Mass.; two sons-in-law, Christopher Keegan and Albert Russell; two daughters-in-law, Beverly (Mrs. Edward) and Nancy (Mrs. Mark); nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a sister, Joan Boutin.

Funeral services were held Monday at St. Joseph Church, Pittsfield, with entombment following in St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum at St. Joseph’s cemetery in Pittsfield.

Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to the Pittsfield (Mass.) Boys and Girls Club in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, Mass. 01201.

Beverly Kirn

KENNEBUNK — Beverly Anne Kirn, 63, of Greenwich Way, Kennebunk, and Bonita Springs, Fla., died the morning of April 6, 2006, at Southern Maine Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family after a battle with lung cancer.

She was born in Worcester, Mass., on Jan. 11, 1943, the daughter of Michael Thomas and Josephine Anne (Days) DiTerlizzi.

She graduated from Shrewsbury High School in 1960, attended Worcester Junior College and graduated from Carnegie Institute of Medical Technology.

She worked as an administrative assistant at Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Boston from 1961 to 1966.

She married E. Bruce Kirn, O.D., on Aug. 7, 1965. They moved to Rumford, Maine in 1966, where she helped him open his optometric practice. Besides being a homemaker, she was owner of the Rumford Drive-In Theater from 1968 to 1984. She worked tirelessly in many Rumford civic and charitable organizations. Most notably, she was a member of the Rumford Hospital Auxiliary for 17 years, where she served as its president and chairman of the Rumford Hospital Fair. She was recognized in 1996 for serving as founding trustee of Rumford Community Home, and as a community director on the hospital’s parent corporation, Rumford Consolidated Healthservices, Corporation.

She was a member of the Rumford Book Club, the Searchlight Club, and was a proud founding member of the Rumford “Blabbies Bridge Club.”

In 1997, she and her husband moved to Bonita Springs, Fla. She was a member of the Bonita Bay Golf Club. She worked as a sales associate at the Mole Hole in Naples, Fla., retiring in May of 2005.

She and her husband celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this August.

She will be remembered for her warmth, compassion, and witty sense of humor. Her interests were varied from reading, gardening, decorating, cooking and entertaining to beach-combing, but most memorable will be her love and devotion to her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of Kennebunk and Bonita Springs, Fla.; one son, Dr. W. Todd Kirn and his wife Jennifer of Kennebunk; one daughter, Heidi Kirn McMahon and her husband Neil of Teaneck, N.J.; her mother of Shrewsbury, Mass; four grandchildren, Lily Kirn McMahon, Charles Kirn McMahon, Virginia Reese Kirn, and Gavin William Kirn; one sister-in-law, Katharine Kirn Russell; one brother-in-law, Paul Russell of Wellesley, Mass.; and one niece, Lindsay Russell Moseley and her husband James of Arlington, Mass.

A funeral service was held Monday at Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk. Private burial was at Mountain View cemetery in Claremont, N.H.

Memorial donations may be made in her name to Hospice of Southern Maine, 901 Washington Ave., Suite 104, Portland, ME 04103; or Rumford Community Hospital, 420 Franklin St., Rumford, ME 04276. Arrrangements by Bibber Memorial Chapel.

Harold Bridges

WELLS — Harold B. Bridges, 85, of Stephen Eaton Road, passed away April 10, 2006, in York Hospital.

He was born in Wells on June 6, 1920. He would always say he was “14 of 21.”

He was a truck driver for Tilcon, Maine Paving Company for many years. He had also driven school buses for Robert K. Brown and various construction jobs.

He was the volunteer fire chief in Wells for 11 years. He lead his men through the fire of 1947. He was an avid outdoors man who loved doing yard work back when he was able. In later years he enjoyed puzzles and spending time with family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

His wife, Frances (Wilson) Bridges, passed away in 1990, and a grandson, Jody Lee Hartley, passed away in 2003. He was also predeceased by all of his siblings but one, Casper Bridges of Wells.

Surviving are two sons, Burleigh Bridges and Norman Bridges, one daughter, Kay Webb, all of Wells; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held today at 10 a.m., at the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market St., North Berwick. Interment following in Ocean View cemetery in Wells.

Donald Moore

WELLS — Donald E. Moore, 77, a resident of Flintlock Village, Wells, formerly of Ogunquit, died April 4, 2006, in York Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born in York, on Aug. 9, 1928, a son of Leon H. and Ida Mae (Bourne) Moore and attended the Ogunquit Village School for eight years as did his mother before him. He graduated from Wells High School in 1947, and enjoyed seeing his former classmates at all the reunions over the years.

He served in the United States Navy in the submarine service in the North Atlantic from 1947 through 1957.

He was employed as a seasonal postal clerk at the Ogunquit post office. He also worked for Adams TV in the late 1950s and 1960s, and installed many antennas and TVs.

In 1969, he went to work for Central Maine Power Company in the York office. He retired in 1990. During his retirement, he operated Moore’s Appliance Repair for many years.

He was a lifetime member of the Ogunquit Fire Department and life member of the York County Firefighter Association and served as trustee for many years.

He served on the board of overseers in Ogunquit in the late ‘50s and for more than 30 years as a trustee of the Ogunquit Sewer District. He was an active member of the Ogunquit Baptist Church.

He was a member of the Ocean Lodge 142 of Wells, Portland Valley Scottish Rite, member and Past President of the Scottish Rite Pioneer Club of Sanford, Kora Shriners AAONMS of Lewiston and served as potentate’s aide under late past potentate, Jack Lustig, Kora Renegades Unit, member and past president of the York County Shrine Club, also member York County Shrine Club Blue Lodge Degree Team, Put Stevens Royal Court of Jesters, Portsmouth Shrine Club and the Western Mountain Shrine Club of Rangeley.

He enjoyed the Shrine activities, traveling and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara A. (Petelle) Moore of Wells; two sons, David J. and his wife Jennifer of Wells, and Eric D. and his wife Cindy of Portland; three daughters, Donna and her husband Larry Smith of Gonic, N.H., Phyllis L. Moore of Portland and Nancy A. and her husband Jay Moore of Wells; one brother, Richard J. Moore of Westbrook; one brother-in-law, David and his wife Carol Petelle of Moody; eight grandchildren, Jayson and Shawn Haskell, Emily, Madison, Zachary and Jordan Moore, David and Jessica James; and several nieces and nephews.

A Masonic service was held April 6 at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, Wells. A funeral was held Friday at the Ogunquit Baptist Church, Shore Road, Ogunquit, with the Rev. David Clark officiating. Private Interment was in Ocean View Cemetery, Wells.

Barbara Wilson

NORTH BERWICK —April 6, 2006, Barbara (Neal) Wilson passed away at the Varney Crossing Nursing Care Center in North Berwick.

She was born Aug. 15, 1917, in North Berwick, the daughter of John Wesley Neal and Eva (Colby) Neal. She graduated from North Berwick schools and in 1936, married the late Clifford H. Wilson Jr. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2001, just two days before his death.

She is survived by three children, Silvia Wilson of Seoul, South Korea, C. John Wilson of St. Albans, Maine, and James Wilson of Portsmouth, N.H.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was an avid reader, talented painter and a constant encouragement to her children and grandchildren. Music and writing were two of the most joyful parts of her life. She maintained a prolific personal correspondence with her family and her letters are prized jewels of her observations of nature, life in North Berwick, and extended genealogical records.

She was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church in North Berwick and was a member of the Quint-Cheney Post, American Legion Auxiliary for more than 50 years.

She lived the final four years of her life at the Varney Crossing Nursing Center where she charmed those about her there as much as she had her family and friends. Many years previously she had worked there and this helped her feel more comfortable and well cared for.

A funeral ceremony for Barbara Wilson will be held at the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market St., North Berwick, at 2 p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers,, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Geneva Hobbs Memorial Organ Fund at the First Congregational Church, 15 High St., North Berwick. Arrangements are entrusted to the Johnson Funeral Home, North Berwick.

John Marshall

KENNEBUNKPORT — John Edward Marshall, 45, also known as Johnny Southern, of Kennebunkport, died Feb. 27, 2006, at the Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Crisfield, Md., Dec. 23, 1960, the son of George and Bulah (Traider) Marshall. He worked for Cape Porpoise Lobster and then as a sternman aboard the Ann Marie, the 32 below and the 32 below II.

He enjoyed helping other lobstermen when needed on their boats. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Arundel Eagles 4030. He will be sadly missed.

Survivors include his companion of seven years, Bonney Smith, of Kennebunkport; one son, John Marshall Smith of Durham, N.C.; two sisters, Marsha Strauss of Pocomoke City, Md., and Florence Ann of Princeann, Md.; one brother, Randy Marshall of Crisfield, Md.; two nephews, Justin and Malcom; five nieces, Angel, Noralee, Tiffie, Raeven and Keziah; and one great-nephew, Aidan Michel.

He was predeceased by one brother, George Washington Marshall in 1995.

In lieu of flowers, any donations can be made to Cape Porpoise Lobster Company.

Ethel Dunn

KENNEBUNK — Ethel (Hutton) Dunn, 89, of Kennebunk, died, March 3, 2006, at her residence. She was born Aug. 5, 1916, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of William H. and Greta Birkel Hutton. She was a graduate of Long Island University, earning her bachelor’s degree. She came to this area in 1973.

In 1940, she married John Walter Dunn in New York City.

She had been employed as a chemist at Sandoz Inc., for 31 years, retiring in 1973.

She belonged to the Maine Women in the Arts Association and as a hobby, enjoyed oil painting.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Walter Dunn, Sept. 1, 1974.

Surviving are two nephews, Patrick W. Grace of York Harbor, and Barry Hutton of New Jersey; one niece, Loreen Leonardi of Florida; one grandnephew, Patrick A. Grace Jr. of York Harbor; one grandniece, Miranda R. Grace of Somerville, Mass.

Carolyn Hearn

NORTH BERWICK —Carolyn Hearn, 90, died Feb.. 24, 2006, at her home in North Berwick following a long period of declining health.

She was born in Pulaski, N.Y., the daughter of D.D. and May Robinson. She was a graduate of Bellevue High School in Syracuse, N.Y. She had been a longtime resident of Denver, Colo., where she was employed by the Arthur Young accounting firm as an executive secretary. After retiring to Sierra Vista, Ariz., she moved to Maine in 1992.

She was an astrologer, an avid student of religion and spiritual science, a music lover, and a benefactor of environmental causes and animal rights. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Hearn, who died in 1958.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Medora and Martin Van Denburgh, also of North Berwick; and one niece, Anne Croasdale, of Hilltown, Pa.

A memorial service for Carolyn Hearn will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 26, at North Parish Congregational Church in Sanford, with the Rev. Aidan Westwell Evershed officiating. Her ashes will be interred at New Haven cemetery in New Haven, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to In Defense of Animals, 131 Camino Alto, Mill Valley, CA 94941.

Marie Finn

KENNEBUNK — Marie H. Finn, 73, a resident of Cheshire Meadows, formerly of Kennebunkport, died March 7, 2006, at the Atria Health Care in Kennebunk, after a brief illness.

She was born in Cambridge, Mass., on July 11, 1932, a daughter of Thomas J. and Bertha (Lynch) Leonard. She graduated from St. Rose High School in Chelsea, Mass., and she also graduated from Chelsea Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.

She was employed by the Chelsea Memorial Hospital as nurse for several years before moving to Goose Rock Beach of Kennebunkport, where she worked with her daughter’s real estate business for more than 20 years. She was a member of Kennebunkport Public Health and St. Martha Church of Kennebunk.

She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph V. Finn Jr. and a daughter Janice (Finn) Kennedy.

She is survived by one son, Joseph V. “Skip” Finn III of Kennebunk; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Kathy) Anuszewski of Kennebunkport; one brother, Dr. Thomas G. Leonard of Grafton, Mass.; and four grandchildren, Christine and Susan Anuszewski, Courtney Kennedy and Ryan Finn.

Funeral Mass was held Saturday at St. Martha Church, Kennebunk. Interment will be in Hope cemetery in the spring.

Jean Silvius

WELLS — Jean E. Sanford, 83, of Wells, died the morning of March 12, 2006, at her daughter’s home in Wells after a period of declining health.

She was born on Oct. 7, 1922, in Auburn, the daughter of August and Irene (Brougham) Marstaller. She lived in Reading, Mass., from 1927 to 1945, Dublin, N.H., for more than 17 years and in Wells for more than 39 years. She had been employed by Sprague Electric in Sanford, in quality assurance for more than 10 years and later became a full-time Christian worker.

She is survived by two sons, Calvin Sandford of Brookline, N.H., Frank Sandford of Sands Springs, Okla.; four daughters, Rowena Sandford of Wells, Brenda Brown of Nashua, N.H., Sandra Demme of Drumore, Pa., and Corono Sandford of Kittery; two sisters, Marguerite Plummer of Concord, N.C. and Pauline Plummer of Dublin, N.H.; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Chestnut Hill Chapel, New Boston, N.H. Burial will take place in the spring in the family lot in the Dublin Village Cemetery, Dublin, N.H.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in her memory to American Bible Society, 1865 Broadway, New York, NY 10023.

Rochelle Simpson

OGUNQUIT — Rochelle Simpson, 58, of Young’s Crossing, formerly of Worcester, Mass., died the morning of March 12, 2006, after a long and courageous battle with cancer in her home, lovingly surrounded by her family.

She was born in Worcester, Mass., on April 8, 1947, a daughter of Abraham and Sylvia (Lowe) Rutman. She attended local schools and graduated from Classical High School in Worcester. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree at American International College in Springfield, Mass.

She most recently was a claim representative with Leland Insurance Agency in Northboro, Mass. Previously she was employed at Hanover Insurance in Worcester in the same capacity.

She enjoyed skiing and traveling. She loved her family and was a very devoted grandmother.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 36 years, Don Simpson; two daughters, Lori Choquette and Sherri Taylor; parents Abraham and Sylvia Rutman; one brother, Alan Rutman; one sister, Pamela Breitman; and four grandchildren, Jacob and Emma Taylor and Hailey and Carly Choquette.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, at Bibber Memorial Chapel, Wells. A committal followed at Ocean View Cemetery, Wells, with Rabbi Burkowitz.
