Jason Cole

WELLS "" Jason Cole, 78, of Royal Heights and Delray Beach, Fla., died peacefully in his home on Jan. 22, 2007, just two days after the passing of his wife Annette.

Jason was born Sept. 10, 1928 in Boston, Mass., a son of Alfred and Goldie Cohen. He graduated from the University of Maine at Orono. Jason was a sales engineer in the construction industry. On April 14, 1951 Jason married Annette Rackmill. They celebrated over 55 wonderful years together until her death just two days prior.

Jason was active with the Shrine in Boston. He was also a member of the Dorchester Yacht Club.

He enjoyed boating and fishing. He loved his family.

Jason is survived by his son; David Cole of Chicago, Ill.; Daughters Rhonda Cole and Karen Ginchereau; brother Merrill Cohen; sister Phyllis Cohen; and his grandson Ray.

A funeral service was held on Jan. 26, at Bibber Memorial Chapel, Wells, with Rabbi Ellen Farber.

A private Interment will follow in Ocean View cemetery in Wells.

Olga Brearey

WELLS -- Olga Brearey, 87, of Wells and Castro Valley, Calif., passed away peacefully and in her sleep at her home in Wells on the evening of Jan. 15, 2007, surrounded by her loved ones and caregiver.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, Jack Brearey, an Oakland fireman of 35 years.

She is survived by her brother David Dobrich, of Dublin; daughter Carol (Brearey) Kratke; sons Douglas, of Laramie, Mont., and David, of Wells; granddaughter Michelle of Bozeman, Mont., grandson Michael, of Bozeman, Mont.; and twin grandsons Jacob Mullin-Bernstein and Zachary Mullin-Bernstein of North Reading, Mass.

A service was held at Chapel in the Valley, in Castro Valley, Calif., on Jan. 23, followed by Interment at Memorial Gardens in Concord, Calif.

The family requests that a donation in lieu of flowers in Olga's name be made to the non-profit organization, York Hospital Home Care Program, 15 Hospital Drive, York, ME 03909, who provided Olga wonderful in-home care for 5 1/2 years.

David Boston

LEBANON -- David H. Boston, 66, died Jan. 24, 2007, at Frisbee Memorial Hospital. David was a hard-working, humble man and a true friend to many. He would especially want to be remembered as a proud father of his four children and loving grandfather to his grandsons.

He was born in South Berwick, to Harland and Pearl (Thompson) Boston and attended Berwick Academy. A truck driver for many years, he worked for P.R. Boston, Adams, Auclair, and City Concrete trucking companies. Most recently, he retired from Seacoast Redi-Mix.

He had served as firefighter and fire chief of the William Hill Fire Department in North Berwick, and has passed on his love of fire engines to his grandsons and young friends. He coached little league, was Past Master of the Yorkshire Lodge in North Berwick, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and member of the York County Shrine Club. Also a member of the Kora Shrine Temple, he could be seen driving his customized, mini, tractor-trailer truck in formation with the log rollers at statewide parades.

David loved to cook for his family, friends, and community event crowds. He is most famous for his smoked shoulder, fluffy whipped potatoes, and coleslaw dinners and was happiest when surrounded by family and friends at his lake side, "golden pond" home.

He will be sadly missed by his long-time companion, Elizabeth Irving, and her family, of East Lebanon.

He is survived by his four children; their mother, Jean (Guptill) Boston; and two grandsons.

His son Brian Boston, and family, Carol Merrill and Jacob; three daughters; Brenda Boston of North Berwick, Beth) Boston Smith and her husband, Peter of Old Orchard Beach; Belinda (Boston) Chase and her husband Rick Chase, Jr. of Wells; and grandsons; Peter Smith II and Zachary Mason Smith of Old Orchard Beach.

He was predeceased by his brothers; Howard, Carleton, Oliver, Walter, Gene and sister, Maxine Caron.

A funeral service was held at the Johnson Funeral Home, North Berwick, on Jan. 27, with a firemen salute and Masonic Service.

Friends who wish may contribute to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104-2396.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Johnson Funeral Home, North Berwick.

Ruth McGinley

EAST BARRE, Vt. -- Ruth Seavey McGinley, 90, died at the Woodridge Nursing Home, Berlin, Vt., Jan. 25, 2007. Ruth was born March 26, 1916, in Cape Porpoise, the eldest child of George and Edna (Benson) Seavey. She graduated from Kennebunkport High School in 1934 and from the University of Maine in 1938. On Jan. 28, 1939, she married Raymond McGinley.

Ruth was a devoted wife and mother, and also cared for her husband's parents, who lived with the family for about twenty years. She was noted for her oatmeal bread, chocolate desserts, special birthday cakes, and the fine arts of sewing and knitting. She especially looked forward to family reunions and the family newsletter.

In her teen years, she was pianist for the evening services at the Cape Porpoise Methodist Church. She was a lifetime member of OES #190 Arundel Chapter.

Survivors include six children and families: Paul and Nancy McGinley, East Barre, Vt.; Helen and John Ballard, Cabot, Vt.; Rosemary and David Adams, Overland Park, Kan.; Kevin McGinley and Pamela Brady, of Moretown, Vt.; Kathleen and Daniel Schaap, Hermon; Richard McGinley and Anne Dinse, Granby, Conn.; nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Pauline Staples, Kennebunk, and Janet Seavey, Barre, Vt.; and a brother, Harrison Seavey, Kennebunk.

She was predeceased by infant twin daughters and two brothers, Fred and John Seavey.

Her husband, Raymond McGinley, passed away on Jan. 18, 2007.

In accordance with Ruth's wishes, her body was donated to the University of Vermont Medical School for research purposes.

Service notice -- A service of remembrance for both Ruth and Raymond will take place at 12 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 39 Washington Street, Barre, Vt. Later Interment will be made in the Arundel Cemetery, Kennebunkport.

Friends of Raymond and Ruth may call at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre, Vt., on Friday, Feb. 2, from 7-9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Patient Activity Fund, Woodridge Nursing Home, PO Box 550, Barre, VT, 05641, or the Vermont Food Bank, PO Box 254, South Barre, VT, 05670.

Faith McLarnon (Eddy)

WELLS, Maine -- Faith McLarnon (Eddy), 86, of Wells, Maine, and formerly of Weymouth and Quincy Massachusetts, died January 26 at Harbor Home in York Maine. She was the beloved wife of the late Douglas McLarnon for 56 years.

Born in Somerville, Mass., Faith was the oldest of four, and at an early age she showed an interest in teaching children and the performing arts. She worked as a camp councilor, played the piano at Kreesgies and loved to dance. In 1953 she opened the Faith McLarnon School of Dance in Quincy, which she would run for 29 years while also choreographing musicals at Fontbonne Academy in Milton. Her students loved her and as the years passed they would bring their own children to her to experience the love of dance. All of her four children at one time or another danced.

Besides being a superb teacher she was a very talented seamstress, making all the clothes for her four children, costumes for her students and was commissioned by the Boston Ballet to make the costumes for their performance of the Nutcracker.

Among her many accomplishments was a scholarship to the Museum of Fine Arts. She played the piano, loved cooking, knitting, photography, golf and was very proud to be the leader of a Camp Fire Girls group. Her late husband was involved in and supported her efforts.

In her retirement she traveled with her husband to many exciting places, including Thailand, China, and Australia. During their travels she would collect dolls, clocks, and antiques to add to her unique collection. She loved family gatherings and there were many at the summerhouse on Bauneg Beg Lake in North Berwick.

Faith had a fascination with people and found it very easy to strike up a conversation anywhere, at any time, and for any reason. Her contagious laugh and dynamic personality will be missed and remembered by all who knew her.

She is survived by her children, Fern Gladstone of Waltham, Mass., Nanci Palmer of Weymouth, Mass., Brian McLarnon of Charles Town, West Virginia, and Beth McLarnon of Waterville, Maine. She is also survived by her youngest sister Patricia Gesler of Wilmington, Delaware, and her brother Melvin Eddy and his wife Loraine of Palm Beach, Florida, as well as seven grandchildren; Tracey Palmer of Norwell, Mass., Keith Palmer of Plymouth, Mass., Devin Gladstone of Portsmouth, Daryn Gladstone of Dover, Heather Dickinson of Front Royal, Virginia, Matthew McLarnon of Portland, Maine, and Marc McLarnon of Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Washington. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren.

Visitation is at 11 a.m., with a memorial service at 12 p.m., at the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market Street in North Berwick on Feb. 2.

Memorial donations may be made to Another Chance Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 552, North Berwick, ME, 03906.

Angus Dow

KENNEPBUNKPORT -- Angus E. Dow, 60, passed away Jan. 21, 2007 at South Ridge Health Care facility following a long illness.

Angus was born Oct. 4, 1946 in Saco, the son of Justin Leavitt Dow and Sarah (Abby) Leach. He was a graduate of Kennebunk High School and also attended SMVTI. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners. Angus was a self employed electrician and plumber for many years.

He is survived by his wife Patricia of 40 years; two sons Kim and Carl Dow, both of Kennebunkport.

He leaves two grandchildren Savanna and Dakota Dow, also of Kennebunkport; two brothers; five sisters; many nieces; nephews; and friends.

He was predeceased by one brother.

There will be no services.

He donated his remains to the University of New England for research.

Leonard Goldman

BEVERLY, Mass. -- Leonard (Lenny) Goldman, formerly of Kennebunport, passed away on Jan. 2, 2007 in Beverly, Mass. He was born in East Boston, Mass., the son of Anna and Morris Goldman. Lenny moved to Kennebunk in his early teens. He enjoyed cooking, playing tennis and listening to opera music.

He leaves two sons, Sheldon and David; a daughter, Toby; grandchildren; and a brother Arnold.

Jacqueline Desmond

TEWKSBURY, Mass. -- Jacqueline J. (Martin) Desmond, 71, a resident of Tewksbury, Mass. for 44 years, died Feb. 6, 2007, at the Wilmington Health Care Center.

Jacqueline was the wife of James E. Desmond, with whom she would have celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary on April 30.

Born in Wakefield, Mass. on July 17, 1935, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Margaret F. (Campbell) Martin.

Mrs. Desmond was raised in Wakefield, attended Wakefield schools and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1953.

Prior to her retirement in 2004, Jacqueline was employed as a demonstrator by BJ's in Medford, Mass., where she worked for over 10 years.

Mrs. Desmond enjoyed vacationing in Maine, visiting the beach at Plum Island and spending time with her family and co-workers.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters; Kathleen Desmond Parsons and her husband John of Dracut, Mass., and Deborah Desmond Meserve and her husband Robert of Kennebunk; two grandchildren; John Ryan Parsons and Spencer James Parsons both of Dracut, Mass.; also many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Desmond was the sister of the late Constance O'Connor of Peabody, Mass.

Contributions in her memory to the American Lung Assoc., 5 Mountain Road, Burlington, MA 01803 are requested.

Richard Paddock

KENNEBUNKPORT--Richard Lee Paddock, formerly of Kennebunkport, died at his home in Ajijic, Mexico on Feb. 8, 2007, after a struggle with sarcoma cancer.

Born in Plainsfield, N.J., on Sept. 7, 1940, Dick grew up in Newton, Mass., and summered on Squam Lake, N.H. He moved to Kennebunkport in 1972 and had several businesses, including K'Port Applicators, a successful painting company.

For many years, Dick was a proud member of the Kennebunkport volunteer fire department and also served as an ambulance driver for the Kennebunkport Emergency Medical Services.

Dick was also the Santa for the Kennebunkport Christmas Prelude for many years and he so enjoyed seeing the smiles of delight on children's faces. This was surely the job he was most proud of.

While enjoying a cold beer at Alisson's Restaurant, Dick met Cathy Roberts and in 1987 they married. Dick enjoyed restoring classic wooden boats and loved their home in Kennebunkport where he oversaw the development of an extensive landscaping and pond project, which was highlighted in the 2005 Garden Tour.

In 2006, Dick and Cathy moved to Ajijic, Mexico to fulfill his dream of opening a Bed & Breakfast. After 5 months of renovations, Dick was able to see his dream come true as Casa del Sol Bed & Breakfast Inn opened its doors in January, 2007.

Dick is survived by his wife of 20 years, Catherine J. Roberts, now of Ajijic, Mexico; his beloved dogs and cats, Casey, Maya, Lily, Ruby and Vinny; as well as an extended family of nephews and nieces who live throughout New England and upstate New York.

Dick's warm generous spirit and larger-than-life personality will be missed by all who knew him.

Friends gathered at Casa del Sol for a memorial service to celebrate Dick's life on Feb. 11, and there will be a memorial service in Kennebunkport at the South Congregational Church on Friday at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sarcoma Foundation of America.
