Albert Curry

SACO - Albert Curry Jr., 77, of Rosewood Drive, died Tuesday at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

He was born Aug. 6, 1923 in Portadown, Northern Ireland, a son of Albert Sr. and Minnie McBroom Curry, and attended South Portland High School.

Mr. Curry was a U.S. Marine veteran in the 1st Division, serving in the South Pacific for four years. After his time in the service, he received his pilot's license and instructor's rating. He was captain in Civil Air Patrol for Search and Rescue, a division in the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Curry worked as an erector for Saco Lowell Shops in South America and Canada for eight years, and was an electrician for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1981. He also served as a part-time deputy sheriff in York County for ten years.

He enjoyed cribbage, was a member of the National Rifle Association, Arion 162 Masonic Lodge, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, and a life member of the Buxton/Hollis Rod and Gun Club.

His son, James, died previously.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Margaret Ricker Curry; a daughter, Kathleen Murphy of Missouri; a stepdaughter, Janice Bayley of Scarborough; a brother, Captain Thomas E. Curry of South Portland; three grandchildren, one step-granddaughter, and three nieces.

Louise Shriner

KENNEBUNK - Louise G. Shriner, 77, of Larboard Lane, died Tuesday at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

She was born in Brookline, Mass. on March 5, 1924, a daughter of Joseph and Ida Johnson Grant, graduated from the Choate School in Brookline in 1941 and attended Wheelock College in Norton, Mass.

She and her husband moved to Kennebunk in 1977 after living in Newton, Mass. for 25 years.

Family members say she was a devoted mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Shriner was an avid golfer and a member of the Braeburn Country Club in Newton and the Webhannet Country Club in Kennebunk. She was also a member of the Kennebunk Beach Improvement Association and the Senior Center at Lower Village in Kennebunk. In her younger years, she enjoyed competing with her husband in curling competitions.

Her husband, Charles M. Shriner, died in 1981.

Surviving are three sons, William G. of Portland, Charles M. Jr. of Arundel and David B. of Alpharetta, Ga.; one daughter, Leslie (Mrs. Douglas) Lamont of Kennebunk; one sister, Joan Monahon of Kennebunk; and seven grandchildren.

Randy Parenteau

BIDDEFORD - Randy C. Parenteau, 20, of Pine Street, died Saturday at his home.

He was born Oct. 2, 1980 in Portland, the beloved son of Dawn Broy and Kevin W. Parenteau.

Surviving are his mother of Saco; his father and stepmother, Theresa, of Dayton; a sister, Ashley Broy of Saco; two brothers, Hunter and Forest, both of Dayton; his paternal grandmother, Alice Parenteau O'Leary of Old Orchard Beach; and his maternal grandmother, Ruth E. Culloton of Saco.

Gerard Fortier

OLD ORCHARD BEACH - Former resident Gerard J. Fortier, 62, of Melrose, Mass., died Tuesday at his home of pancreatic cancer.

He was born in Lewiston, the son of Joseph and Laura Fortier, was educated in Lewiston schools and graduated from South Broward High School in Hollywood, Fla.

He served in the Armed Forces and later managed the former Gables Inn Hotel in Old Orchard Beach. For many years he worked for the U.S. Internal Revenue Service in Andover, Mass.

Surviving are his wife, Janet A. Scott; a daughter, Lisa Kahle of Milford, Conn.; a stepdaughter, Sue Ann C. (Mrs. Ken) Johnson of Litchfield, N.H.; a stepson, Randy M. Craw of Bloomington, Ind.; two brothers, Paul of South Portland and Roger of Bethesda, Md.; a sister, Mona (Mrs. Philip E.) Tibbetts of Saco; and several nieces and nephews.

Roland LaVallee

NORTH BERWICK - Former Sanford resident Roland J. LaVallee, 69, of West 4th St., died Tuesday at his home.

He was born in Sanford on Feb. 16, 1931, a son of Wilfred and Adrienne Pelletier LaVallee, and was educated in Sanford schools.

From 1946 to 1973 Mr. LaVallee was in the wholesale and retail food business. In 1973 he started a career in real estate, operating the Drown Agency with multiple offices in York County. In 1999 he sold his interest in the company to the Masiello Group.

Mr. LaVallee previously lived in Falmouth and Wells. He moved to North Berwick in 1998 and had wintered in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. for the past 15 years.

He was a member of the Association of Realtors.

A daughter, Kathleen, died in 1979.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Vivian I. Thibaudeau LaVallee of North Berwick; two sons, Michael of Tulsa, Okla. and the Rev. Thomas of Lakeland, Fla.; and three daughters, Susan Greaton of Saco, Diane Malm of Dayton and Lisa Dias of Kingston, N.H.

Melvin Tenney

SANFORD - Melvin Leland Tenney Jr., 47, died Tuesday.

He was born in Rumford on July 12, 1954, the son of Melvin Sr. and Lois Vandandecovan Tenney.

He was a United States Army veteran and served in Korea.

He was a self-employed building contractor for many years and helped rebuild the VFW kitchen and upstairs hall.

Mr. Tenney was a lifetime member of VFW 9935 of Sanford. He served as commander for three consecutive terms and had been voted commander again this spring. He was All-State Commander from 1997 to 1998, canteen manager of the post and served as Quartermaster for two years.

He loved his Harley and had rebuilt several. He loved animals and nature, especially his two cats, Pywacket and Sage. Family members say he was a mountain of a man and will be truly missed by those who loved him.

Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Karen Kimball Tenney; a son, Melvin (Lee) III of Nevada; a daughter, Chrystal of New York; a stepdaughter, Laurie Smith of Sanford; his mother, Lois Gahm of Bremen; his father and his stepmother, Jeanne, of Naples; a brother, Mark of Gorham; two sisters, Teresa of Standish and Elizabeth of Montana; two grandsons a niece and two nephews.

Wesley Richardson

SANFORD - Former resident Wesley M. Richardson Jr., 71, of Merritt Island, Fla., died Monday at Vencor Hospital in Green Cove Springs, Fla.

He was born May 9, 1929 in Sanford.

After serving 28 years in the Air Force, he retired as a lieutenant colonel and moved to Merritt Island.

Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Janice; a son, Dean of Cape Canaveral, Fla.; a daughter, Kelly Davidson of Long Beach, Calif.; a brother, Charles of Portland, Ore.; a sister, Constance of Sanford; and four grandchildren.

James Kelleher

ARUNDEL - James T. Kelleher, 82, of Arundel Road, died Tuesday at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

Mr. Kelleher was born Jan. 7, 1918 in New York, N.Y., a son of Dr. James P. and Annabelle Lyons Kelleher, graduated from Poughkeepsie High School and Blair Academy in New Jersey and attended St. Michael's College in Vermont.

A U.S. Army veteran, during World War II he participated in the Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland campaigns and received a Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster.

Mr. Kelleher was employed by the State of New York, Department of Mental Hygiene, as a business administrator in several hospitals throughout the state.

In his retirement, Mr. Kelleher was an avid golfer and member of the Cape Arundel Golf Club in Kennebunkport and Briarwood Golf Course in Shalotte, N.C. He was also a member of the Kennebunk Fire Society and a lifetime member of the Poughkeepsie Elks Club.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Marie Krizek Kelleher; a son, James of Buffalo, N.Y.; a daughter, Beth Feeney of Marcellus, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Judith Lewis of Edmond, Okla.; a sister, Edythe Antwerp of New Bern, N.C.; seven grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Theresa Melanson

BIDDEFORD - Former resident Theresa Gloria LaBrecque Melanson, 75, of Middletown, R.I., died Tuesday at her home.

She was born in Biddeford on Dec. 27, 1924, the daughter of Rosario and Marie Roussel LaBrecque.

Her husband, Andre Marcel Melanson, and a sister, Rita LaBrecque, died previously.

Surviving are two sons, Richard B. of Pampa, Texas and David P. of Biddeford; three daughters, Gloria Davis of Middletown, Dianne of Kauai, Hawaii and Susan A. Bradley of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

James Jackson

BIDDEFORD - James A. Jackson, 36, of Miller Avenue, died Wednesday at Southern Maine Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 17, 1965 in Stafford Springs, Conn., a son of Thomas and Evelyn Smith Arrowsmith, and attended Biddeford High School.

Mr. Jackson was employed by Andre Charron in Biddeford for several years.

He enjoyed fishing and weekends.

Surviving are a son, Brandan of Old Orchard Beach; a daughter, Ashley Dumont of California; his parents of Biddeford; two brothers, Leroy of Biddeford and Howard of Windham, Conn.; three sisters, Connie of Windham, Conn., and Kim Prue and Lynn Theobald, both of Biddeford, and several nieces and nephews.

Andre Blais

SACO &emdash; Andre J. Blais, 48, of Bayview Road, died Wednesday at his home.

He was born in Biddeford April 14, 1953, a son of Josephat A. and Rita Cote Blais, and graduated from Thornton Academy in 1973.

Mr. Blais was a Marine Corps veteran who worked in the base motor pool.

He was employed by Shape Inc. of Kennebunk for several years, and also drove taxis locally.

Survivors include his mother, with whom he resided; four sisters, Denise Foster of Arundel, Marie Rose Thivierge and Bernadette Spulick, both of Saco, and Jean of Biddeford; three brothers, Gerard of Hollis, Edward of Saco and Francois of Biddeford; and several nieces and nephews.

Aubrey Giddens

HOLLIS - Aubrey G. Giddens, 81, of Plains Road, died Thursday at Pine Point Nursing Home.

He was born in Bass River, Nova Scotia July 10, 1920, the son of Thomas G. and Adelle M. Corbett Giddens. He attended schools in Charlestown and Malden, Mass., and studied auto mechanics at Franklin Union Trade School in Boston, Mass.

He served in the 86th Blackhawk Division in World War II in the European and Pacific theaters, and was 1st Battalion motor mechanic of the 341 infantry regiment.

During his retirement years in Rowley, Mass. he delivered Meals on Wheels and was a volunteer driver for Senior Transportation, aiding elderly people with transportation to doctor's appointments and shopping trips. He also served on the town finance committee.

He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Rowley from 1950-1994. He served as Bible School teacher, superintendent of Bible School, deacon, and member of the Executive and Finance Committee.

Aubrey enjoyed woodworking and making small crafts and pieces of furniture. Although confined to a wheel chair since 1994, he continued to make items for craft fairs, friends and family. He moved to Hollis in 1994 and was attending the Hollis Center Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie, who he married in January 1942; two daughters, Priscilla Hodgkins of Norwich, Conn. and Beverly of Hollis; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Kathryn Ellis

KENNEBUNK - Kathryn VanDyke Richardson Ellis, 86, died Tuesday at Kennebunk Nursing Home after an extended illness.

She was born in Camden, N.J., and graduated from Camden High School and the Episcopal Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia, Pa.

Mrs. Ellis was given numerous awards for outstanding civic and community service in Merchantville, Pennsauken and Cape May, N.J., where she lived with her husband and children. Among the many organizations which benefited from her efforts were the American Red Cross, where she was recognized with the Clara Barton Award for 50 years of volunteer service, the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America. She served as president of elementary and junior high school parent-teacher associations, Cape May Women's Club and the Merchantville Federated Women's Club. Her lifelong passion was the Visiting Nurses Association, which she served for 50 years in both Merchantville and Cape May as an active board member.

She was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church in Merchantville, serving as president of the Women's Club, and was the first woman to be elected to serve on their vestry. She served on the Evergreens Episcopal Retirement Home board of trustees in Morristown, N.J. for 15 years, receiving a special proclamation in 1980. She led the Altar Guild and numerous activities at the Episcopal Church of the Advent in Cape May for many years. She and her husband were active members of the Cape May Corinthian Yacht Club, where she served as membership chairman.

Surviving are her husband of 68 years, Melville Joseph Ellis; a daughter, Marjorie Jane Downes of Kennebunk; a son, Melville James of Newport Beach, Calif.; a sister, Rachel Richardson Kane of Ponte Vedra, Fla.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
