John B. Gogan
UNITY — John Bertram Gogan, 64, of Reynolds Road, Unity, died unexpectedly at his home Friday, Aug. 11, 2000.
He had been a textile worker at several mills including the Ski-Land Woolen Mill, in Clinton, and Cascade Woolen Mill, in Oakland. He recently had been employed at the Roseland diner in Augusta.
Survivors include five daughters, Rebecca Grandmaison, of Texas, Lisa Mae Gogan, of Connecticut, Rhonda M. Shaw, of Fairfield, Tina Horton, of Thorndike and Rachel Gogan, of Portland; four sons, Bertram E., of Louisiana, William A., of Unity, Raymond H., of Norridgewock and Jesse, of South China; 21 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; four sisters and three brothers.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at the Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield. Cremation will take place at the Gracelawn Memorial Park in Auburn. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at the Ames Cemetery, River Road, Benton.
Alberta D. Keene
WINTHROP — Alberta D. Keene, 68, a resident of Main Street in North Monmouth, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at Nicholson's Nursing Home in Winthrop following a brief illness.
She was born in North Monmouth, Oct. 23, 1931, the daughter of Albert and Mamie (Dudley) Dunn.
A graduate of Monmouth Academy, she married Donald M. Keene in 1950. He died in 1982.
Alberta was an executive secretary in the administration office of Tex-Tech of North Monmouth where she was employed for 44 years, retiring in 1994.
She was a longtime member of the North Monmouth Community Church and was very active with the alumni of Monmouth Academy.
She is survived by a daughter, Debra Crawford, of Tucson, Ariz., and a son, James Keene, of San Diego, Calif.; one aunt, Jamsie Couture, of Winthrop.
Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Bragdon-Finley Funeral Home, 707 Main St., Monmouth, where a funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 17. Interment will be held at the Glenside Cemetery
in Winthrop.
Diane M. Rodrigue
PORTLAND — Diane M. Rodrigue, 43, of 28 Georgia St., died Sunday, Aug.13, 2000, at her home after a long illness.
She was born in Augusta, May 8, 1957, the daughter of Lionel D. Rodrigue and Constance (Dostie) Rodrigue.
Diane had been employed as a waitress at Jonathan's Restaurant in Augusta as well as Mike's Restaurant in Augusta. She previously was employed by Denny's Restaurant in Orlando, Fla., for a time.
Diane enjoyed hooking rugs, cross stitching and other crafts. She especially loved to spend time with her friends.
Diane was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church of Augusta.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Constance Rodrigue, in 1960.
Survivors include her father, Lionel "Nellie" Rodrigue, of Augusta; her stepmother, Mildred (Rodrigue) Rodrigue, of Augusta; two daughters, Jill and Meagan Rodrigue, both of Augusta; one brother, Richard Rodrigue, of Rockport; two sisters, Jeanne Smith, of Mount Vernon, and Patricia Cunningham, of Chelsea; one grandson, Preston Rodrigue, of Augusta; paternal grandmother, Laurette Rodrigue, of Augusta; maternal step-grandmother, Anna Labbe, of Avon, Mass.; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no public visiting hours.
A memorial Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Augusta. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery
in Augusta.
Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Maine Chapter, 163 Lancaster St., Suite 160 B, Portland ME 04101-2406. Arrangements are under the care of Plummer Funeral Home of Augusta.
Hazel P. Stilkey
BRUNSWICK — Hazel P. "Alice" Stilkey, 72, of Stone Street, in Brunswick, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at the Freeport Nursing Home.
She was born in Freeport, daughter of Louis Seth and Lelia May (Martin) Bailey.
Mrs. Stilkey was employed by Eastland Shoe, Freeport Shoe and Taylor Shoe.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 83 in Freeport, the Freeport Fireman's Auxiliary and was its first president when the auxiliary was formed.
She enjoyed camping, Tammy Wynette, music, dancing and singing to her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Charles Stilkey; five daughters, Ann Arbour and husband, Raymond, of Augusta, Marcia Shipley and husband, Robert, of Solsberry, Ind., Jamie Shenk and husband, William, of Durham, Charlene Morrison and husband, Clyde, of Bloomington, Ind., Stacy Fallon and husband, Charles, of Sabattus; two brothers, Martin Bailey, of Freeport, and Norman Bailey, of Farmingdale; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, at the Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at the First Parish Church Congregational United Church of Christ, 40 Main St., Freeport. Burial will follow at the Grove Cemetery
in Freeport.
Russell H. Caswell
FARMINGDALE — Russell Harris Caswell, 58, of Northern Avenue, Farmingdale, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at his home following a courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Caswell was born in Gardiner, June 25, 1942, the son of Charles B. and Evelyn M. Douglass Caswell.
"Russ" had been employed by Gregg Distributors and Harriman & Black, and was a self-employed carpenter.
He was a very active member of American Legion Post 4 in Gardiner, serving in many offices including past commander, sergeant at arms, bingo chairman and color guard.
Russ was an Air Force veteran.
His brother, Harold Caswell, and sister, Mildred Nichols, predeceased him.
He is survived by his daughter, Diane Lynn Wilette, and her husband, Don, of Woolwich; his son, Donald P. Caswell, and his wife, Sonja, of Chelsea; his former wife and close friend, Jane Caswell, of Gardiner; his three brothers, Ellis Markham, of Monmouth, Robert Caswell, of West Gardiner, and Dana Caswell, of Norridgewock; his sister, Beulah Grazioso, of Gardiner; two grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service with military honors by American Legion Post 4, Gardiner, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at the family lot in Ripps Cemetery, West Gardiner.
Contributions in his memory, may be made to American Legion Post 4, Color Guard, Griffin Street, Gardiner.
Arrangements are under the care of Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner.
Clyde F. Morton
GREENVILLE — Clyde F. Morton, 86, of High Street, Greenville, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Charles Dean Memorial Hospital, Greenville, after a long illness.
He was born in Bath, Aug. 28, 1914, the son of Charles F. Morton and Blanche Octavia (Erskine) Morton.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Morton had been employed by Bath Iron Works as a crane operator for 20 years.
He was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons.
His wife, Lavonia Estelle (McCabe) Morton, died Jan. 5, 2000.
Surviving are a son, Charles Morton, of Farmingdale; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
At his request, there will be no public visiting hours.
A private burial service will be conducted at a later date.
Donations in Mr. Morton's memory, may be made to the charity of your choice.
Arrangements are under the care of Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta.
Shirley C. Kilton
OCEAN PARK — Shirley C. Kilton, 81, of Manor Street, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at a Portland hospital.
She was born in Lowell, Mass., a daughter of Luther and Corinne Deroucher Hall, and attended schools there and in Portland.
Mrs. Kilton enjoyed going for car rides, being with her family, and was extremely proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She enjoyed attending the Bible study class at Pine Wood Manor, where she lived.
Mrs. Kilton is survived by her husband of 67 years, Francis D. Kilton, of Ocean Park; four sons, Robert D., of Kankakee, Ill., Richard G., of Kennebunk, and Donald F., and David B., both of Portland; one daughter, Helen F. Hunter, of Old Orchard Beach; 36 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10,. at Brooklawn Memorial Park, 2002 Congress St., Portland.
Arrangements are by Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland.
Dorothy S. Cooke
BELGRADE — Dorothy Stuart Cooke, 83, a resident of Dorchester, Mass., for more than 40 years, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at her home.
She was born Feb. 16, 1917, in Belgrade, a daughter of Charles B. Stuart and Mina Yeaton Stuart.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Cooke; a daughter, Anne Tillson; and a sister, Joan Andrews.
Survivors include her brother, Arnold Stuart, of Belgrade; her son, John Stuart, of Belgrade; five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren; and nephews, Stuart W. Gerald, and Jason Gerald. She leaves behind a very special neighbor and friend, Louise Russ, who cared for her the past few years.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at Pine Grove Cemetery, Belgrade.
