Eugene Dupuis
BIDDEFORD - Eugene W. Dupuis, 80, of Ray Street died Friday morning at Southern Maine Medical Center after a long illness.
He was born in Biddeford on March 27, 1921, a son of Noe and Marie Lizotte Dupuis and was educated in Biddeford schools.
On June 15, 1946, he married
Rachel Boucher at St. Joseph's Church in Biddeford.
Mr. Dupuis was employed with the Pepperell Mfg. Co. for over 25 years, retiring in 1970.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Mr. Dupuis was predeceased by his wife, Rachel Dupuis on July 3, 1965, a son, Richard Dupuis in 1951 and by several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a daughter, Constance Pritchard of Biddeford; a brother, Paul Dupuis of Cape Cod, Mass. and a granddaughter, Letitia Pritchard of Biddeford.
Annette Courtois
BIDDEFORD - Annette Marguerite Courtois, 61, died Thursday in Bangor after battling complications from diabetes.
She was born on May 7, 1939 in Biddeford, daughter of Jean-Leo and Simone (Boucher) Deschambault, and was a graduate of St. Joseph's High School in 1958.
She met her husband Harry at the Puritan in Biddeford and they were married
on July 4, 1962, at St. Joseph's Church.
Her family moved to Lincoln in 1974, and then to Millinocket in 1976.
While primarily working as a devoted mother for her three children, she also became active in other children's lives, serving as a children's librarian in Millinocket, as well as being supportive of youth football and baseball organizations.
She also served as a notary public and ballot clerk, was active as a Scout den mother, and was a delegate to the Maine State Democratic convention on several occasions.
A woman of strong spiritual belief, she was very active in all of the local parishes where she lived, including the Augusta area where she and Harry moved in 1990.
She enjoyed collecting frog figurines, stained glass and Lennox birds.
She kept the family and friends well informed of her families lives through prolific letter writing and her annual Christmas news letter.
She loved to decorate for the winter holidays, and her family often kidded her how decorations were up well before Thanksgiving and sometimes didn't come down until the middle of January.
Her Christmas tree featured unique handmade ornaments, given to her from both friends and family, and those she gathered from traveling, which she also enjoyed.
Her family also looked forward to her meat tourtieres every holiday season.
Family members how she enjoyed summer walks on the beach at Bay View, camping, and eating lobster on the Bar Harbor coast. She also enjoyed watching the birds in her backyard, and her other hobbies included learning abut her families' genealogy and histories.
Family members said she especially mentioned that she loved all of her family very much and that she will always be with them.
Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Harry; three sons, Timothy, Bryan and Cory; a brother, Donald Deschambault of Webster, N.Y.; a sister, Diane Trudeau of San Diego, Calif.; her mother, Simone, also of Webster, N.Y.
Ida Bartusiewicz
BIDDEFORD - Ida H. Bartusiewicz, 85, of Rockwood Drive, died Thursday evening at Southern Maine Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born April 13, 1915 in New Britain, Conn., a daughter of Anthony and Hedwiga Janowski Yakas and was educated in New Britain schools.
On June 24, 1944, she married
Joseph J. Bartusiewicz in Mobile, Ala. He died February 1997.
Mrs. Bartusiewicz moved to Biddeford in May, and lived with her sister-in-law, Beverly Beliveau.
She enjoyed painting and embroidering.
She is survived by two brothers, Anthony Hicks of New Britain and Dr. Robert Hicks of Bristol, Conn.; three nieces and five nephews.
Peggy Spencer
SACO - Peggy Spencer, 78, of Jenkins Road, died Tuesday at The Renaissance in Biddeford.
She was born Oct. 30, 1923 in Fall River, Mass., the daughter of John and Mary Fisher Stanley, and attended schools there.
Mrs. Spencer was employed for five years at Allied Shoe and another five years at Nike Shoe, retiring in 1983.
She loved to spend time with her family and enjoyed her cat and crocheting.
Mrs. Spencer was a member of Nazarene Church.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, William E. Spencer; a daughter, Mary Lou of Saco; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Ralph Goodwin
SANFORD - Ralph D. Goodwin, 87, died Tuesday at Goodall Hospital.
He was born in Shapleigh on Sept. 22, 1914, the son of Ralph E. and Ethel M Bacon Goodwin, attended Shapleigh High School (which is now Town Hall) and finished his education at Sanford High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Goodwin worked nine years at the former Goodall/Sanford Textile Mills and nine years as a machinist at the Portsmouth Navel Shipyard. He was also a letter carrier in Sanford for 21 years, retiring in 1980.
Mr. Goodwin was a former scout master and active committee man, with continuous service since 1943 with troop No. 317, which has been sponsored by the First Baptist Church in Sanford for 87 years. He was the recipient of the Good Shepard Scouting Award and the Silver Beaver Award, the highest council award. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America Council, at the district level, and in 1988 was Assistant District Commissioner.
Mr. Goodwin was a 50 plus-year member, past master and treasurer of the Lebanon Grange. He was a member of the York Pamona, state and national Grange and the Sanford Order of Elks, where he was honored for his contribution to Sanford youth. He was a member and past president of the Sanford branch of the National Association of Letter Carriers.
He was a member, deacon and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church of Sanford and a member and vice president (1958) of the York County Baptist Laymen.
His wife, Mildred D. Goodwin, died in 1988. Two daughters, Norma Shirley and Mary Louise, also died previously.
He is survived by his sister, Marion L. of Asbury Park, N.J.
Albert Lambert
BIDDEFORD - Former mayor Albert C. Lambert, 89, of South Street, died Monday.
He was born in Biddeford on June 4, 1911, the son of Calixte and Clara Lemire Lambert, and was educated in local schools.
On Oct. 15, 1934 he married
Cecile Bellefeuille at St. Joseph's Church.
He worked most of his life in the auto parts business. He owned and operated A.C. Lambert Auto Parts and Lambert's Music Store from the early '40s to 1963. Later he worked at Peter Fuller Cadillac in Boston until 1976, when he retired.
Mr. Lambert was a lifelong Democrat, active in local and county politics. He served on the Biddeford School Board in 1955. He ran for mayor several times, defeated Mayor "Papa" Lauzier in 1955 and was re-elected in 1957. He was proud of the fact that with his administration came the modernization of the Biddeford schools and Public Works Department, family members say.
Mr. Lambert was interested in Biddeford history. He was a charter member of the Biddeford and Saco Lions Club and a member of the Toastmasters, the Biddeford and Saco Elks Lodge and L'Union St. Jean Baptiste.
His three sisters, Sr. Marie Marguerite DeParay P.M., Yvonne Gaudette and Lucienne Twomey, died previously.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years; three daughters, Carmen Staples and Francoise Roy, both of Biddeford, and Dianne Eppinger of Danbury, Conn.; two sons, Richard of Trumbull, Conn. and Guy of Londonderry, N.H.; two sisters, Pauline Martin of Saco and Theresa Rossignol of Biddeford; 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Beau Cote
SHAPLEIGH - Beau G. Cote, 22, of Ross Corner Road, died Monday.
He was born Aug. 28, 1979 in Portland, and graduated from Massabesic High School in 1998.
Family members say he was a fun-loving man who enjoyed life and his family and was a kind and generous while still being young at heart. He loved fishing, riding his ATV - often taking time to bring younger family members and friends on a ride with him - family get-togethers and watching Patriots football.
Surviving are his wife, Kimberly M. Havey Cote, and their unborn child; his parents, Scott and Karen Cudworth of Shapleigh, Mr. & Mrs. Gerard Bourassa of Sanford and Mr. And Mrs. Richard Cote of Old Orchard Beach; a sister, Rikki (Mrs. Stephen) Foglio; three brothers, Mathew and Dennis and Briar Cudworth, all of Shapleigh; a grandfather, John C. Cudworth of Shapleigh; one nephew and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Henrietta Carroll
KENNEBUNK - Henrietta M. Carroll, 86, of Huntington Common and Biddeford Pool, died Tuesday at Huntington Common.
She was born in Milford, Mass. on Nov. 28, 1915, the daughter of Robert S. and Henrietta Swift Curley, and was educated in Lowell, Mass. schools, graduating from Lowell High School and then Radcliffe College in 1936.
She came to Biddeford with her family in 1932. On Sept. 10, 1938, she married
Harold D. Carroll at St. Mary's Church in Biddeford.
Mrs. Carroll was the owner and operator of the Paquin & Carroll Insurance Agency in Biddeford. After the death of her husband in 1981, she served as president of the Saco River Telegraph & Telephone Company, which was managed by her son Robert.
Mrs. Carroll was a member of St. Mary's Church, served on the board of McArthur Library and was also a member of the Notre Dame Hospital Auxiliary. She was active in the American Association of University Women, a trustee of St. Francis College and the University of New England and w a member of the finance committee for the Cathoolic Diocese of Portland.
A daughter, Henrietta N., died in 1999. A sister, Roberta Curley Sautter, also died previously.
Surviving are a daughter, Charlotte (Mrs. Pierre) Vial of Evian Las Bains, France; three sons, Robert C. of Bar Mills, Harold J. of Boston and Gregory C. of Blue Hill; and eight grandchildren.
Lillian McConkey
ALFRED - Lillian Sue Goldberg McConkey, 89, died Sunday at the Merriman House in North Conway, N.H.
She was born Oct. 30, 1911 in Littleton, N.H., was a graduate of Kennett High School in Conway and attended nursing school in Boston.
She moved to Alfred shortly after marrying Thomas Wright McConkey.
For several years she worked with students at the former Nasson College in Springvale and was awarded an honorary Doctorate by the college. She was inducted into the Deborah Morton Society, a prestigious society on the Westbrook College campus of the University of New England, which recognizes the contributions of Maine women.
A member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Mrs. McConkey had a strong interest in genealogy. She was an accomplished writer and the author of two books of poetry. Her volumes of poetry are part of the Maine Women Writers Collection at the Westbrook College campus.
Dorothy Hutchins
KENNEBUNK - Dorothy J. Hutchins, 88, of Western Avenue, died Monday at the Kennebunk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Kennebunk on June 20, 1912, a daughter of Lester and Viola Avery Jackson, and attended Kennebunk schools.
She was married
to Harry S. Hutchins, lived in Burlington, Mass. until her husband's death in 1973, then moved back to Kennebunk.
Mrs. Hutchins was a homemaker most of her life.
She was a member of the Eastern Star in Massachusetts and Maine. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
Besides her husband, three brothers, Harley, Gordon and Kenneth Jackson, died previously.
She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Baum of Kennebunk, and several nieces and nephews.
