Harold Blackington Jr.
BIDDEFORD - Harold L. Blackington Jr., 70, of West St. died Friday August 9, 2002 at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.
He was born on December 9, 1931, in Biddeford, a son of Harold L. Sr. and Laurette Blanchette Blackington. He attended Lawrence High School in Lawrence, Mass. and graduated from St. Louis High School in Biddeford.
Mr. Blackington was a U.S. Navy veteran. After leaving the service he lived in New York City, and was employed by Chase Manhattan Bank, New York City Post Office and by Helena Rubenstein. He moved from New York to Saco in 1960. He was employed by Maremont Corporation in Saco, retiring in 1990.
He enjoyed classical music.
He is survived by a sister, Elaine McCallum of Saco; a niece and a nephew.
Marie Dowd
BIDDEFORD - Marie A. Dowd, 58, of Wentworth Street, died Wednesday at her residence.
She was born in Randolph, Mass., on March 11, 1944, a daughter of Leo and Ethel Gibbons Doyle, and was educated in Randolph schools.
Ms. Dowd enjoyed flower gardening and home crafts.
She is survived by two sons, Kirk of Connecticut and James of California; one daughter, Dawn Dowd of Biddeford; four brothers, William Doyle of Waterboro, Leo Doyle of Port Charlotte, Fla., John Doering of Brockton, Mass., and Robert Doering of Bridgewater, Mass., and a sister, Joan Tiffany of Vermont.
Donald Lemieux
SANFORD - Donald R. Lemieux, 70, formerly of Main Street, died early Friday morning at the Newton Center following a long illness.
He was born in Biddeford on May 24, 1931, a son of Louis and Lydia (Lantagne) Lemieux.
Mr. Lemieux was a lifelong resident of Sanford and was educated here. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He later was employed as a custodian form the former American Cyanamid Co., now CYRO Industries, and at Sprague Electric Co.
He enjoyed the ocean and working and puttering outdoors.
He is survived by a son, Richard of Plaistow, N.H.; two daughters, Kathleen Taylor of Sanford and Marilyn Landry of Lewiston; two sisters, Ida Dumont and Helen Legere, both of Sanford; and seven grandchildren.
Susan F. Pollock
SANFORD - Susan F. Pollock, 90, of Sanford died Thursday at The Greenwood Center.
She was born in Alfred on Sept. 22, 1910, the daughter of John and Susan Roberts Pollock and attended schools in Alfred.
Ms. Pollock worked for the former Goodall-Sanford Mills until 1952. She then worked for The Goodall Hospital from 1952-1975.
She was a member of The North Parish Congregational Church in Sanford.
She is survived a sister, Margaret Jordan of Sanford; a brother, Albert Pollock of Canada; nieces Myra Wellington of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Frances Gilpatrick, Susie Jordan and Shirley Jordan, all of Sanford; a nephew, John Jordan of Sanford; two great-nephews and a great-niece.
Robert J. Kent
WATERBORO - Robert J. Kent, 63, of Long Causeway Road, died at his home on Wednesday.
He was born in Auburn on April 30, 1937, the son of Abbott and Olga Booker Kent and was educated in Auburn and Scarborough schools, graduating from Scarborough High School with the class of 1956.
Mr. Kent was employed as a truck driver with a food manufacturing company.
Surviving are two sons, James Kent of Parkley, Va. and Thomas Kent of Biddeford; a daughter, Lori Gagne of Waterboro; his mother, Olga Dayton of Old Orchard Beach; a sister, Marilyn Miller of Old Orchard Beach; 10 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
William Pittinger
KENNEBUNKPORT - William E. Pittenger, 83, of Norfolk, Va., a former Kennebunkport resident, died Wednesday in Virginia.
He was born in Columbus, Ind., and served in the Navy during World War II. He was a retired metal smith.
He was a former member of Norfolk Moose Lodge #39 and the Legion of the Moose.
He was predeceased by his twin sister, Mary Alice Randall, and his sisters Lillian Henthorn, Leona Caplinger and Marie King.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta Persing Pittenger of Norfolk; four daughters, Gwendolyn Mann of Gainesville, Fla., Sheryl Courson of Boulder, Colo., Bonita Golay of Virginia Beach, Va., and Columbine Anderson of Riner, Va.; three sons, William Earl Jr. of Portsmouth, Va., Marcus Seavey of Portsmouth, Va., and Albert A. Seavey of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Claudia McCabe of Indianapolis, Ind.; a brother, the Rev. Claude Pittenger of Yukon, Okla.; 12 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Eugene Martineau
SPRINGVALE - Eugene J. Martineau, 79, died Wednesday at his residence.
He was born in Sanford on Oct. 26, 1922, the son of Samuel and Mary Lavalee Martineau, and attended schools there.
He was a World War II Army veteran, serving overseas for 25 months in Alaska, the Aleutians and the Caribbean.
Mr. Martineau retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in 1984.
Two sons, Eugene Wallace and William Brian, and a great-grandson, Corey Ryann Lizotte, all died previously.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Arline Nichols Martineau; a son, Eugene A. of Rochester, N.H.; a daughter, A. Linda (Mrs. Alfred) Lizotte of Sanford and Milton, N.H.; three sisters, Anita Taylor of Norwich, Conn., Elsie Lavoie of South Carolina and Delia of Sanford; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Paul Nicholson
SACO - Paul Stuart Nicholson, 86, of Main Street, died Thursday at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
He was born July 31, 1915 in Revere, Mass., a son of Norman Grant and Martha Swift Nicholson, and graduated from Revere High School. He attended Bowdoin College in Brunswick and Vesper George School of Art in Boston, Mass.
Mr. Nicholson was a singer at various nightclubs in the Boston area during the 1940s. He moved to the Saco area in 1972, and was a custodian at Thornton Academy for nine years, retiring in 1981.
He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, where he entertained the troops.
He was an artist and painter. His hobbies included art, music, and making puzzles.
Mr. Nicholson was a communicant of Most Holy Trinity Church.
He was predeceased by his wife, Norma McInnis Nicholson, in 1981, by a brother, Norman J. in 1964 and a sister, Frances Chiarini, in 1993.
Survivors include two sons, Paul Stewart Jr. of Occidental, Calif. and Gregory Scott of Albion, Calif.; a daughter, Cynthia Nicholson Canning of Reston, Va.; and seven grandchildren.
Joseph Henry
SANFORD - Joseph H. Henry, 82, of Bauneg Beg Hill Road, North Berwick, and a former longtime resident of Sanford, died Thursday morning at Maine Medical Center in Portland following a long illness.
He was born in Ste. Suzanne de Stanhope, Quebec, Canada, on Feb. 28, 1919, a son of John and Sylvina Farnoureux Henry. He moved to Island Pond, Vt., at a young age and was educated there.
While living in Island Pond he worked as a farmer in the summer and as a lumberjack and with the railroad when not farming.
During World War II he served in the Army and Navy.
Mr. Henry was employed at Wasco Products for 40 years, retiring in the early 1980s.
He enjoyed woodworking, archery, hunting and taking long walks.
His wife, Leonida Richard Henry, died in 1978.
Surviving are his son, Thomas J. Henry of Springvale; two sisters, Edna Boucher of Rochester, N.H., and Irene Miller of New Jersey, and two brothers, Floyd of North Berwick and Robert of Sanford.
Muriel Perreault
BIDDEFORD - Muriel Perreault, 68, of West Street, died unexpectedly Thursday at her residence.
She was born in Biddeford on March 26, 1933, the daughter of William C. and Irene Berthiaume Vir, and was educated in Biddeford schools.
On Nov. 10, 1947, she married
Marcel Perreault at St. Joseph's Church in Biddeford.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, the American Legion, Rochambeau Snowshoe Club and the A.A.R.P. She enjoyed crocheting, and talking on the phone with family and friends.
Her son, Marcel, died in 1948.
Surviving are her husband of 53 years; three daughters, Joanne (Mrs. Royce) Stevens and Gail (Mrs. James) Soule-Maheu, both of Biddeford, and Deborah (Mrs. Mark L.) St. Pierre of Sacramento, Calif.; four sisters, Priscilla (Mrs. Herman) Richardson and Claire (Mrs. William) Howard, both of Saco, Yvonne (Mrs. Wilfred) St. Pierre of Old Orchard Beach, and Irene (Mrs. Hilbert) Mosley of Kissimmee, Fla.; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Jesse Pierce
SANFORD - Jesse E. Pierce, 69, died Thursday at The Newton Center in Sanford.
He was born May 4, 1931 in West Newfield, the son of Chester L. and Effie M. Hill Pierce.
Mr. Pierce worked most of his life as a woodsman. He also worked 15 years for Genest Concrete of Sanford.
He was a very funny man who would always say what he wanted, family members say.
Fond of reading and country western music, Mr. Pierce enjoyed the outdoors and watching westerns on television.
Survivors include two sons, Edward of Waterboro and Stanley of Florida; three daughters, Pam of West Newfield, Susan Jeannette of Sanford, and Yvette (Mrs. William) Duhamel; five brothers, Roland of Waterboro, Ray and Roy, both of Kennebunk, Charles of Shapleigh, and Richard of North Berwick; nine sisters, Rita Daney of Alfred, Janet Morin and Ruby Young, both of Sanford, Marion Gregoire of Waterboro, Arvena Fogg of Auburn, Margaret Gilliam of Portland, Audrey Guillmet of California, Leona of Arizona and Janice Smith of North Carolina; 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Carl Nadeau
ALFRED - Carl R. Nadeau, 53, of Gebung Woods Road, died Tuesday at Goodall Hospital in Sanford.
He was born in Sanford on Oct. 25, 1947, a son of Edmund and Adrienne Charette Nadeau, and attended Alfred and Sanford schools.
Mr. Nadeau worked at the former Sutton Mills in Sanford for several years, and later for Fiesta Shows for over 20 years, retiring from there due to ill health.
Family members say that he enjoyed his farm animals.
A son, Shannon Britch, died in 1983.
He is survived by two daughters, Sabrina and Sherry Britch, both of Sanford; a brother, Lee, of Alfred; two half-brothers, Michael Hussey of Alfred and Steven Hussey of Springvale; a half-sister, Claire Hussey of Alfred; and a great- granddaughter, Meridith Brown of Sanford.
