Noella Richardson
SACO - Noella Richardson, 64, of Hall Avenue, died Monday at the home of her daughter, Donna, after a battle with lung cancer.
She was born and raised in Pawtucket, R. I., the daughter of Alcide and Rose Bernier Bedard, and graduated from Our Lady of Fatima Hospital School of Nursing in 1959.
Mrs. Richardson worked at the Miriam Hospital in Pawtucket as an LPN for many years. She retired in October 2000 after working 20 years in the care of the mentally and physically disabled at the Joseph H. Ladd School in Exeter, R. I.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan (Mrs. John) Cunniff of Lafayette, La. and Donna (Mrs. Dale) Wermenchuk of Saco; a son, David of Greenville, R. I.; her mother of East Greenwich, R. I.; and three grandchildren.
Daniel Kochis
SACO - Former resident Daniel Kochis, 71, of Honor, Mich., died Sunday at Munson Medical Center in Michigan.
He was born in Lynn, Mass., the son of Vangel and Alexandra Kochis, attended Saco schools and graduated from Thornton Academy in 1948.
He joined the United States Air Force in 1951, retiring in 1970.
On May 18, 1956, he married
Mary E. King in Highland, N.J.
He was the mayor of Honor from 1983 to 1985.
He was a devoted "Jeopardy" fan who knew the answers to most of the questions and never missed a show, family members say. He was an avid reader and loved spending time with his family.
A son, Peter, died previously.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Daniel M. of Beulah, Mich., and Paul and Russell, both of Honor; two daughters, Deborah Ryan of Honor and Catharine Hansford of Haslett, Mich.; a brother, George of Saco; a sister, Ruth Lunetta of Old Orchard Beach; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Margaret McIntosh
CORNISH - Margaret E. McIntosh, 76, of Spur Road, died Saturday at Goodall Hospital in Sanford.
She was born in Old Town on April 25, 1925, a daughter of Francis and Emma Cyr.
Her husband, James B. McIntosh, died in 1995 and a daughter, Gaile, died in 1980.
Surviving are nine sons, Kenneth and Steven, both of Sanford, Francis of San Diego, Calif., Robert of Cornish, Harold of Beach Island, S.C., Alex of Peabody, Mass., James of Salem, Mass., Michael of Syracuse, N.Y., and Kevin of Worcester, Mass.; four brothers, Edgar Cyr of Portsmouth, N.H., Albert Cyr of Rumford and Raymond and William Cyr, both of Georgetown, Mass.; two sisters, Molina Gallant of Beverly, Mass. and Priscilla Martin of Danvers, Mass.; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Walter Shepard
WELLS - Walter O. Shepard, 82, of North Berwick Road, died Monday at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
He was born April 9, 1918 in Lynn, Mass., a son of James and Alberta Munn Shepard.
Mr. Shepard was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II.
He worked as a stockman at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard before retiring, then worked part-time as a police officer in Wells.
He had been the director of Civil Defense in Wells and was active in scouting in the community. He was a member of Ocean Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 142, Priscilla Chapter O.E.S. of Wells and the Eagles.
His first wife, Laura Craythorn Shepard, died in 1959 and his second wife, Irene Bennett Shepard, died in 1993. A stepson, Donald Letendre, also died previously.
Surviving are a son, Martin of Wells; two brothers, Elmer of Wells and Warren of Waterloo, N.Y.; a sister, Elizabeth Horack of Caballo, N.M.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Charles Turgeon
BIDDEFORD - Charles R. Turgeon, 91, of South Street, died Sunday at Southern Maine Medical Center.
He was born in Biddeford on Nov. 5, 1909, a son of Pierre and Mary Martin Turgeon, and attended schools there.
Mr. Turgeon worked at the Sanford Airport and Bruce Shoe and retired after 35 years as a self-employed building contractor. He also served in the National Guard.
His wife, Leda Beaulieu Turgeon, died previously.
Survivors include a daughter, Rachel Dube of Biddeford; two sons, Raymond of Biddeford and Norman of Saco; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Gracia Watson
SACO - Gracia M. Watson, 82, of Water Street, died Monday at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.
She was born in Biddeford on Nov. 14, 1918, a daughter of Wilfrid and Emelda Houle Poisson, and was educated in Biddeford schools.
On May 30, 1940 she married
Laurel R. Watson in St. Andre's Church. He died June 8, 1989.
Mrs. Watson worked for six years with York Mills and 23 years with the Saco-Lowell Shops and Edward's Plant in Saco, retiring in 1977. She owned and operated the Colony Motel in Scarborough for six years.
She enjoyed playing cards and doing puzzles and was a member of the Saco Senior Citizens Club. She and her husband wintered in Bonita Springs, Fla. for many years.
Surviving are two sons, Richard A. and Robert R., both of Biddeford; a brother, Roger Poisson of Old Orchard Beach; two sisters, Theresa Stensel of Florida and Lucille Jariz of Biddeford; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Emily Libby
NEWFIELD - Emily Carolyn Libby, 85, died Wednesday at Southridge Living Center in Biddeford.
She was born Oct. 22, 1916 in Portland, the daughter of Edward and Maude Hawkes.
For many years, Mrs. Libby worked on the family farm raising chickens and selling eggs. Family members say her life was dedicated to providing a good home and family life for her husband and children. She was a hard worker, and at one point operated Carolyn's Variety Store and Restaurant.
Surviving are her husband, Gordon Libby; a daughter, Joyce (Mrs. Don) Frechette of North Berwick; two sons, Rodney of Texas and Russell of Newfield; a brother, Melvin Hawkes; a sister, Olive Hall; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Avis Jeffery
SACO - Former resident Avis H. Jeffery, 89, died Thursday in Vacaville, California.
She was born in East Livermore and educated there.
She was employed by Bates Manufacturing, York division for many years. She was also a waitress for several years.
Relatives say she was a good and loving mother, always cooking for the neighborhood children. She lived most of her life in Saco, formerly on Flag Pond Road, and moved to California in 1989.
She was a member of the North Saco Congregational Church and the North Saco Grange.
Her husband, Frederick Jeffery, died previously.
Survivors include a daughter, Della Knezienski of Vacaville; a granddaughter, Jennifer Windham of Vacaville, and a grandson, Staff Sargent Christopher Knezienski, United States Air Force, of Fairfield, Calif.
Edith Pierce
SANFORD - Edith M. Pierce, 93, died Wednesday at the Sanford Health Care Facility.
She was born May 9, 1908 in Portland, the daughter of Millard J. and May B. Bryer Lord, and attended schools in Saugus, Mass.
For many years, she worked at Insulfab Plastics and the Lynn Item as a switchboard operator. She also spent time working at the South Portland Naval Shipyard and Checker Cab.
She was a member of the North Waterboro Fire Dept. Auxiliary, the North Waterboro Community Baptist Church and the North Waterboro Historical Society. She enjoyed doing craftwork, sewing, knitting and tending to her garden.
Her first husband, Stanley J. Konczal Sr.; her son, Stanley J. Jr.; her second husband, Starret Pierce; and two brothers, Millard and Robert Lord, all died previously.
Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth Buchanan of North Waterboro; a brother, Willis Lord of North Waterboro; two sisters, Marion Neilson of Georgetown, Mass. and Marjorie Blair of New Hampshire; a granddaughter and two grandsons.
Katherine Parella
OGUNQUIT - Katherine C. Parella, 95, of Ontio Way, died Monday at the Varney Crossing Nursing Home in North Berwick.
She was born Nov. 24, 1905 in Trenton, N. J., a daughter of Vincent and Elisa Carmignani Venanzi.
She worked for many years in sales in Trenton and at her son John's restaurant, The Whistling Oyster.
A resident of Ogunquit since 1966, Mrs. Parella was a member of the Women's Club of Ogunquit for 20 years, a 20-year volunteer at York Hospital and a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Wells.
Her husband, John Parella, died in 1942, a son, John, died in 1992 anda daughter, Anna May Morrow, died in 1985. A brother, Anthony Venanzi, and sisters Theresa, Christina, Mary, Lucy and Edith also died previously.
Survivors include a brother, Nicholas Venanzi of Florida; a granddaughter, Robin Ramos of Agoura, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
Langdon Gillman
SACO - Langdon I. Gillman, 90, of Pine Haven Street, died Sunday at Southridge Living Center in Biddeford.
He was born Dec. 15, 1910 in Brunswick, a son of Edgar W. and Victoria Evelyn Stackhouse Gillman, and graduated from Brunswick High School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran who served as a parts automotive clerk. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbon.
Mr. Gillman worked in the greeting card industry in San Diego, Calif. and Worcester, Mass. for many years. He also was employed by Forest City Chevrolet in Portland in the parts department, retiring in 1975.
Mr. Gillman was described by his neighbors as a private person who enjoyed life.
Surviving is his close friend and neighbor, LeeAnne Pooler of Saco.
Viola Perham
ARUNDEL - Viola D. Perham, 83, formerly of Old Limerick Road, died Sunday at Pine Point Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Scarborough.
She was born in Eliot on Nov. 6, 1918, a daughter of Charles D. and Georgia Tobey Tetherly, attended Eliot and Kittery schools and graduated from Traip Academy in Kittery.
Mrs. Perham worked in the dietician department at Portsmouth Hospital before her marriage in 1956. She was mostly a homemaker and mother and did extensive volunteer work in both Saco and Arundel.
She was an Avon lady in the Arundel area and had been a resident of Arundel for more than 30 years, coming from Saco.
She attended the First Parish United Church of Christ in Saco and was a member of the Mother's Club, a Denmother and a charter member of the Volunteer Auxiliary Women's Fire Department of Arundel and the PTA.
Her brother, Herbert Tetherly, died previously.
Surviving are her husband, Alexander Perham of Arundel; one son, Jeffrey of Arundel; two daughters, Zoe Ann Garrett of Arundel and Deborah Jo Lizotte of Biddeford; two sisters, Alice Mayhew of Eliot and Rosalin Davis of Kittery; and four grandchildren.
