Gaston Rochefort
July 12-13, 2003
BIDDEFORD - Gaston G. Gus Rochefort, 93, of Graham Street, died Friday at Kennebunk Nursing Center.

He was born in Biddeford on Aug. 26, 1909, the son of Exerode and Eva Fournier Rochefort, and was educated in Biddeford schools.

On June 20, 1932, he married Laurette Garon at St. Josephs Church in Biddeford.

Mr. Rochefort worked for Ames Butter Store on Main Street Biddeford for a few years and then worked 38 years for the Saco Lowell Shops and Maremont Corp., retiring in 1974.

He was predeceased by his wife on Oct. 29, 1992, and by a son, Donald P., on May 29, 1994.

He was a member of St. Josephs Church and enjoyed bowling, golfing and wintering in Florida.

Surviving are one son, Norman G. of Biddeford; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews

Herman Richardson
April 5 - 6, 2003
BIDDEFORD - Herman Butch Richardson, 78, of West St., died Friday at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough.

He was born on October 4, 1924, in Wilton, a son of Herman A. and Marion R. Brown Richardson. He attended Thornton Academy in Saco.

Mr. Richardson was a U. S. Navy veteran who served during World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He retired from the Navy after 30 years of service.

He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed football and racing, family members said.

He was predeceased by one brother, Stanley Richardson.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Priscilla Vir Richardson of Biddeford; five sons, Bruce of Gallop, N. M., William Hopkins of Old Orchard Beach, Robert Adams of Rhode Island, Peter Hopkins of Biddeford, and Ricky Hopkins of Florida; five daughters, Kathy Downing of Trenton, N.H., Tiger Brizendine of Biddeford, Norma Reed of Saco, Priscilla Stewart of Pa., Judy Dube of Saco; one sister, Phylis R. Lake of Wilton; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Alfred Proulx Sr.
Weekend, December 7, 2002
BIDDEFORD Alfred L. Proulx Sr., 72, of Wentworth Street, died Thursday at Southern Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Westbrook on Aug. 19, 1930, a son of Rosario and Parmelia Richards Proulx and was educated in Westbrook schools.

He married Paulette Sampson on May 31, 1952.

As a young man he was a merchant mariner. He worked in the auto body field, also at Main Rubber, West Point Pepperell, and most recently at Biddeford Textile, retiring in 1990.

He enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, and also attending auto races. He was predeceased by his wife Paulette Proulx in 1986 and a son, Paul Proulx in 1998.

Surviving are three sons Alfred Jr.; Rosario and Patrick, all of Biddeford; two brothers, Maxmillian, of Okeechobee, Fla., and Thomas, of Westbrook; two sisters, Florence Lauzier, of Bokeelia, Fla. and Bernadette Sparks of Westbrook; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild.

Evelyn Grace
December 6 - 7, 2003
SACO - Evelyn Grace, 56, of Cumberland Avenue, died Friday afternoon at Southern Maine Medical Center.

She was born February 1, 1947 in Wells, a daughter of Frank and Shirley Harriman Town and was educated in Wells schools.

On July 1, 1972, she married Robert Grace in Biddeford.

Mrs. Grace had been employed at Sebago Moc. Co. in Westbrook for 26 years. She was a member of the Maine Country Music Association and enjoyed dogs, reading, doing puzzles and taking bus trips.

Surviving are her husband of 31 years, Robert Grace of Saco; four sisters, Rita Beyea of Wells, Beverly Gagne of Sanford, Roberta Gagnon of Saco, Joyce Beaupre of Old Orchard Beach; several nieces and nephews

Kenneth Jacobson
October 11 - 12, 2003
WELLS - Kenneth L. Jacobson, 81, of Oak Bluff Road, formerly of Post Road, died Wednesday at York Hospital.

He was born Jan. 4, 1922 in Voorheesville, N.Y., a son of Wesley A. and Ina May Hart Jacobson, attended schools there and graduated from Bethlehem High School.

Mr. Jacobson was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and received five battle stars and a Bronze Star.

Following the war, he worked for Shell Oil Company as a truck driver. He was a longtime member of the Voorheesville Fire Department and served as chief for several years.

In 2001, he served as Grand Marshal for the 100th Anniversary Parade for the Voorheesville Fire Department. He retired in 1982 and moved to Wells, where he and his wife owned and operated the New Harbor View Motel.

His wife, Lottie M. (Cole) Jacobson, died in 1998.

Mr. Jacobson is survived by in-laws.

Armand Neault
April 5 - 6, 2003
BIDDEFORD - Armand A. Neault Jr., 88, formerly of Cutts Street, died Wednesday at Southridge Living Center in Biddeford following a long illness.

He was born in Chesham, Province of Quebec, Canada, on Dec. 2, 1914, the son of Armand A. and Aldea Dutremble Neault Sr. and was educated in local schools.

Mr. Neault served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was awarded the Purple Heart.

On April 29, 1939, he married Lucille Binette at Holy Family Church in Sanford.

He worked for over 30 years in local shoe shops.

Mr. Neault was a member of St. Josephs Church, Eagles #804, and a life member of the Biddeford Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed owning and training show ponies.

He was predeceased by his wife, Lucille B. Neault in 1993; two sisters, Blanche Poisson in 1999, and Florida Provost in 2002; and one brother, Leo Paul in 1968.

Survivors include one son, Roger of Palm Coast, Fla.; two brothers, Raoul and Lionel both of Bridgewater, Mass.; one sister, Theresa Huestis of Biddeford; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Augustin Ouellette
February 1, 2003
BIDDEFORD - Augustin J. Ouellette, 82, of Raymond Street, died Thursday at Southridge Living Center.

He was born in St. Agathe on Aug. 27, 1920, a son of Steven and Mathee Gagnon Ouellette, and was educated in Sinclair schools.

On May 21, 1941, he married Marie Ange Guerette in St. Eutrope Church in Guerette.

Mr. Ouellette moved to the Biddeford area in 1941. He owned and operated Ouellettes Paving Co. for 30 years and worked 18 years for Honeycomb Systems in Biddeford.

He was a member of St. Andres Church, and enjoyed walking and the company of his family.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years; four sons, Roger of Virginia Beach, Va., Nelson and Gary, both of Biddeford and Kenneth of Goshen, N. Y.; three daughters, Rachel (Mrs. Richard) Delk of Jacksonville, Fla., Nancy (Mrs. Gerald) Lehouillier of Searsport, and Susan of Biddeford; 17 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

John Havu
Monday, December 1, 2003
BUXTON - John E. Havu, 76, of Mary Jane Road, died Sunday at Mercy Hospital in Portland.

He was born in Portland on Dec. 26, 1926, the son of John and Gertrude (Reed) Havu.

As a teenager he was an auto mechanic. Then he served in the Merchant Marines and Air Force during World War II. After the military he worked in the woods and at Yerxas, repairing small engines, then became a self-employed auto mechanic.

He attended West Buxton Freewill Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the Gideons and a devoted Christian.

He enjoyed deep-sea fishing, hunting and the woods. He kept a garden each year and cherished his time outdoors. and his family.

He cut firewood each fall to warm his home for the winter and made it his job to tie up all loose ends around the homestead.

A son, John III, died previously.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Doris (Townsend) Havu; three sons, Douglas, Bill and Dan of Buxton; two daughters, Beverly Gammon and Patty Bethel of Buxton; three brothers, Donald and Alfred of Dayton and Robert of Lebanon; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Ethel Tripp

OLD ORCHARD BEACH - Ethel M. Tripp, 93, of Ocean Avenue, died Friday at the Pine Point Health Care facility in Scarborough.

She was born Oct. 6, 1910 in Slippery Rock, Pa., the daughter of George and Olive OConnor Lindsey.

In 1927 she attended the Salvation Army Training College, where she meet her future husband, J. Bramwell Tripp. They were married in 1929 and raised four children. Both served as Salvation Army officers before retiring to Old Orchard Beach in 1977. During their retirement, they continued as faithful members of the Old Orchard Beach Corps.

Her husband died in 2000 and a daughter, Nancy, died in 1987.

She is survived by two sons, James and his wife Pam of Columbus, Ind. and Ed and his wife Karen of Cincinnati, Ohio; one daughter, Kathy and her husband Jim Jordan of Chicago; nine grandchildren, Louisa, Jim, Clark, Philip, Alex, Pam, Bram, Elizabeth and Andrew; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis (Henry) Berkhoudt and Ruth (Arthur) Anderson of Old Orchard Beach; and one brother-in-law, Jack Tripp of San Diego, Calif.

Simone Morin
Monday, August 11, 2003
SACO - Simone L. Morin, 93, of Main Street, formerly of Union Street in Biddeford, died Friday at the Monarch Center.

She was born Nov. 16, 1909 in St. Maurice, Quebec, Canada, a daughter of Onesiphore (Frank) and Marie Doucette Longval. She came to the United States in 1924 and was adopted by an uncle, Frank Morin and his wife, Clara Longval. Miss Morin was educated in Biddeford schools and graduated from St. Josephs High School. Later in life, she attended Laval University in Quebec, graduating June 13, 1937.

Miss Morin worked as a seamstress all her life. She was also employed by Betty Siminsky Ladies Apparel and by Polakewich Ladies Apparel in Biddeford.

She taught piano at her home for many years, enjoyed walking, and did so up until her 90th year.

Miss Morin was a member of St. Josephs Church and was a member of the choir for many years.

Surviving are one brother, Dominique Longval of Levi, Quebec; three sisters, Orise Longval and Gisele Longval, both of St. Louis of France, Canada, and Gabrielle Paquette of Ville St. Laurent, Quebec; her longtime caregiver, Paulette Beaudoin; and several nieces and nephews.
