SPRINGVALE - Apphia M. Ricker, 83, died Saturday at the Newton Center in Sanford.

She was born Sept. 8, 1918 in Springvale, the daughter of Lester and Bertha Sterling Bradford, and graduated from Sanford High School.

She worked at the Goodall Textile Mill in Sanford, then spent 32 years at Ballenger Auto of Sanford as a bookkeeper, retiring in 1981.

Mrs. Ricker was a member of the Pleasant Street Free Baptist Church of Springvale, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, Pythian Sisters and Emblem Club. She was an avid stamp collector, and often set up a booth at the Newington Flea Market to display her extensive stamp collection.

Surviving are her husband, Howard of Springvale; two sons, Frank of Springvale and William Johnson of Sanford; a stepdaughter, Arlene Stackpole of Sanford; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Timothy Perreault

BIDDEFORD - Timothy Perreault Biewald, 30, of St. Marys Street, died Saturday at Southern Maine Medical Center.

He was born June 18, 1973 in Portland, a son of Horst Biewald and Rita C. Perreault, and was educated at Biddeford High School.

Mr. Perreault was employed by Kentucky Fried Chicken in Saco for several years and also worked for Alternative Taxi and Twin City Taxi for many years. Later, he was employed by Lyn-Flex in Saco.

His hobbies included aircrafts, chess, playing cards and video games.

Surviving are his wife, Marie LaPointe Perreault of Biddeford; one son, Timothy Mattheau of Biddeford; his father of Hamden, Conn.; his mother of Biddeford; a brother, Michael Biewald of Biddeford; a half-brother and half-sister, Paul Biewald and Christina Biewald, both of East Haven, Conn.; his maternal grandmother, Bertha Dubois of Biddeford; his paternal grandparents, Hannelore and Heinz Biewald of Naugatuck, Conn.; and one niece.

Phyllis Roberts

WELLS - Phyllis I. Roberts, 57, of Meetinghouse Road, died Sunday at home after a long battle with cancer.

She graduated from Kennebunk High School in 1965 and the Victor Contemeter School for word processing.

She worked for Corning Components/AVX for 27 years in the computer room and shipping.

Her hobbies included camping, campfires, Disney World, pier fries, eating out, roller skating and driving in her convertible. Family members say she loved laughing.

Her mother, Lillian Thyng, and a sister, Joan Carol Matthews, died previously.

She is survived by her husband, Barry Roberts of Wells; her father, Carroll Matthews; two sons, Christopher and his wife Jill of Kennebunk and Brian and his wife April of Sanford; two sisters, Patricia Grass of Kennebunk and Sally Love of Wells; and four grandsons.

Roland Inniss

SANFORD - Roland K. Inniss, 52, of Gregory Drive, died Saturday at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

He was born Oct. 6, 1951 in Biddeford, the son of Orton and Ruth Dyer Inniss, was educated in Arundel and Kennebunk schools and attended Kennebunk High School.

On March 15, 1980, he married Betty Lavallee in Biddeford.

Mr. Inniss was employed at Sprague Electric in Sanford for 14 years.

He was an avid Elvis Presley fan and enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, Heidi.

Dying previously were his mother in 1989; his father in 1994; three brothers, George Wormwood in 1980, Clarence Wormwood in 1986 and David in 1995; and two sisters, Fannie Bedard in 1964 and Helen Bush in 1987.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Holly (Mrs. Jared) Weeks of Sanford; two sisters, Esther (Mrs. Joseph) Bush of Arundel and Jeannette (Mrs. Stanley) DeWitt of Naugatuck, Conn.; one brother, Ruben of Arundel; one granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

Ralph Douglass

PORTER - Ralph Irving Douglass Sr., 74, of Spectacle Pond Road, died at his home Sunday.

He was born June 25, 1928 in Eaton, N.H., a son of Irving and Clara Blake Douglass, and attended Porter schools.

He was a woodsman for most of his life and worked for various logging companies in the Porter area. He also worked for Kezar Falls Woolen Mill, Limerick Shoe Factory and Sebago Shoe Company in Fryeburg and also in Bridgton, where he lived for some time. After his retirement, he worked as a home health aide in the area.

He loved hunting, fishing, gardening and, above all, his family.

His stepdaughter, Tracy McInnis, died previously.

Surviving are his wife, Linda McInnis; one son, Ralph Jr. of St. George, Utah; three daughters, Ruth Paratore and Beverly Hodgdon, both of Sanford, and Sharon Tillson of Limerick; four stepsons, Russell McInnis of Westbrook, Martin McInnis of Cornish, Anthony McInnis of Saco and Bradley McInnis of Porter; three stepdaughters, Julie Phillips of Limington, Irma Card of Hampden and Teresa McInnis of Denmark; two sisters, Phyllis Roberts and Mildred, both of Brownfield; seven grandchildren, 14 stepgrandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Walter Perry

ALFRED - Walter L. Perry Jr., 69, died Sunday at Goodall Hospital in Sanford.

He was born in Moscow on March 8, 1934, a son of Walter L. and Annabelle (Bishop) Perry Sr., attended Millinocket schools and was a 1951 graduate of Stearns High School and a 1961 graduate of the University of Maine at Orono.

He served with the U.S. Army and Reserves for more than 20 years.

Mr. Perry was a schoolteacher at several schools around Maine. He was employed for 25 years with the former Sprague Electric in Sanford, retiring in 2000.

He served with Literacy Volunteers in the English as a Second Language program in Sanford. He was a master gardener through the York County Extension, a 35-year member of the Elks Lodge, where he enjoyed playing pool, and a life member of the VFW.

His twin brother, William, died in 1936.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Beverly A. (Thorne) Perry; three sons, Michael T. and Daniel E., both of Alfred, and Walter L. Jr. of Portland; a brother, Byron J. of Veazie; two sisters, Alice Ellsworth of Wiscasset and Marie Woodcock of Veazie; and several nieces and nephews.

Allen Pargellis

KENNEBUNKPORT - Allen McCroy Pargellis, 79, of Pier Road in Cape Porpoise, died Monday at Riverridge Health Care in Kennebunk.

He was born in Pasadena, Calif., the son of Stanley and Elizabeth Scribner Allen Pargellis, attended Milton Academy in Milton, Mass. and graduated from Yale University in 1947.

He did graduate work at the Institute of Advanced International Studies in Geneva, Switzerland, and the John Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Washington D.C.

He served in the Pacific Theater with the Marine Corps during World War II and was recalled to active duty during the Korean Conflict. He attained the rank of captain.

Mr. Pargellis began his career as a foreign service officer with the Department of State. He worked in the European Recovery Program in Paris, France, and on the East-West Contracts Staff of the Department in Washington, where he promoted cultural and educational exchanges between the Untied States and the Soviet Union.

He worked for the Central Intelligence Agency in Vietnam, where he helped create the strategic hamlet program. Returning to Washington, he served as deputy chief of the Vietnam Affairs Branch, then was assigned to Laos, where he assisted the resistance of mountain guerrilla forces against the Communist insurgence. He closed his CIA career as Chief of the Japan Branch.

After retiring from Government service in 1971, Mr. Pargellis joined the management consultant firm of Data Solutions Corp. in McLean, Va. He became director of the firms largest operating division, directing contracts with the Navy Department, Department of Labor and Postal Services, among others.

Mr. Pargellis moved permanently to Cape Porpoise in 1979. During the 1980s, he was general manager of Telstar, Inc., a small electronics firm in Kennebunk.

Mr. Pargellis served as president of the Kennebunk Public Health Association and as a member of several committees for the town of Kennebunkport. He was an American Legion member and undertook responsibility for many years for placing the flags on veterans graves in local cemeteries. He was also a member of the Kennebunkport cemetery Committee.

His wife, Camille V. Pargellis, died in May 1995 and a daughter, Pamela A., died in 1996.

He is survived by four sons, Andrew N. of Hoboken, N.J., Christopher A. of Redding, Conn., Gordon F. of Austin, Minn. and Gregory S. of Kennebunk; two sisters, Margaret Silberling of Huntington, N.Y. and Katherine Bowe of Boston; and five granddaughters.

David Carrington

LYMAN - David Francis Carrington, 64, formerly of Waterbury, Conn., died Wednesday.

He was a professor, teacher and coach for 35 years.

His sister, Elizabeth Betty Ann Carroll and a brother, William, died previously.

Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Sue Speeie Carrington of Lyman; two daughters, Elizabeth of San Francisco, Calif. and Catherine of Philadelphia, Pa.; a son, Jeff of Orange, Conn.; and two brothers, Paul of Waterbury and Lewis of Orleans, Mass.

Gerard Bald

BIDDEFORD - Former resident Gerard R. Bald, 76, of Andover, Mass., died Tuesday at Lawrence (Mass.) General Hospital.

He was born in Biddeford, a son of Alfred and Lena (Caron) Bald, and educated there.

He moved to the greater Lawrence area in 1958.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy on the USS Floyd B. Parks with a rank of Seaman, First Class.

He worked for Textron Defense Systems as a class A machinist for more than 30 years, until his retirement.

He enjoyed yard sales, flea markets and antiques. He loved his family and enjoyed traveling to Maine to visit his brothers and sisters.

He was a member of St. Patricks Parish in Lawrence.

His wife of 35 years, Jacqueline (Roy) Bald; a brother, Andrew; and two sisters, Irene Fornier and Juliette Beaudoin, died previously.

Survivors include a son, Brian G. of Andover; three daughters, Carol Ann Manning of Berwick, Sandra Grenier of Methuen, Mass. and Cynthia of Burlington, Mass.; two brothers, Armand of Somersworth, N.H. and Philip of Biddeford; four sisters, Pauline Marcotte and Lorraine Ryan, both of Biddeford, Laurette Dumas of Kennebunk and Annette DesRoberts of Alfred; seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
