Shirley Clemetson
Thursday, July 10, 2003
SANFORD - Shirley E. Clemetson, 77, formerly of Rochester, N.H., died Tuesday at Goodall Hospital.

She was born June 21, 1926 in Cambridge, Mass., the daughter of Samuel and Gertrude Griffith Hilton, and attended schools there.

Mrs. Clemetson and her husband Vernon moved to California and started a family. They later return to the East Coast and, after several moves, settled in Rochester, then Sanford.

Family members say she was a social butterfly with a tremendous sense of humor. She loved to travel, crochet, tend to her garden and be with her grandchildren.

Her husband, a grandson, Brandon Bojo Oakley, and a sister, Ruth Cummings, died previously.

Surviving are two daughters, Sandra Bartolome of Sanford and Donna Oakley of Springvale; a son, Ronald of Ventura, Fla.; a sister, Hazel Stringer of Texas; four grandchildren, one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.

Betty Austin

BIDDEFORD - Betty Austin, 55, of May Street, died Tuesday at Mercy Hospital in Portland.

She was born in Hartsville, S.C. on Sept. 30, 1947, the daughter of Mr. Austin and Maye Willis Austin.

At an early age, Betty moved from Hartsville to New Haven, Conn.

Mrs. Austin, who took her maiden name again after divorcing, was employed as a nurse in area nursing homes throughout New Haven. In 1999, she moved to Maine with her son.

She enjoyed gospel music and watching movies, and she was an avid knitter.

Survivors include one son, Christopher of Saco; many brothers and sisters in South Carolina, Florida, Connecticut, New Jersey and New York; one granddaughter, Lalna; several nieces and nephews; and her former husband, Teddy Daye.

Stephen Bahre

LYMAN - Stephen Bahre, 58, formerly of Amesbury, Mass., died Sunday at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

He was born in Indianapolis, Ind. on Sept. 10, 1945, the son of George G. and Rosemary (Johantgef) Bahre, and graduated from the University of Arizona with a bachelors degree in geography and a Masters degree in library science.

From October 2000 until recently, he had been the director of Wells Public Library. He also had served as the library director of Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass., for approximately 20 years. He had also been a reference librarian at Amesbury Public Library and Derry (N.H.) Public Library and a map librarian and librarian in the Instructional Media Collection (IMC) College of Education in the University of Arizona Library System for many years.

A cartographer and geographer, he published original maps, taught cartography and scientific illustration at the University of Arizona and served on several committees at the University of Arizona including the Library Staff Association and the Promotion and Tenure Committee.

His projects at Wells Public Library included celebrations of the arts, such as poetry readings, book discussions and art displays, and designing new indoor and outdoor spaces for library patrons. For several years, he served on the local cable commission and met with colleagues in Amesbury.

He was interested in technology acces and acting and worked with the On-Stagers at Merrimack College and the Amesbury Playhouse. He also participated in numerous activities associated with sports networks in both radio and television coverage.

His parents died previously.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannette Bahre; three children, Kimberly, Christian and Rachael, formerly of Amesbury; and a brother, Conrad of California.

John Tremblay

BIDDEFORD - John L. Tremblay, 82, of Plymouth Drive, died Wednesday at Southern Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Biddeford on March 18, 1920, a son of Adelard and Mabel Payheur Tremblay, was educated in schools there and graduated from the former St. Louis High School in 1939.

On June 28, 1941, he married Claire T. LeBlond in St. Andres Church.

Mr. Tremblay served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He worked 13 years at the Saco-Lowell Shops and Edwards Plant in Biddeford and Saco. He then worked at Raytheon Corp. in Andover, Mass. for two years, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and Precision Screw for 20 years, retiring in 1985.

Mr. Tremblay was a member of the St. Louis Alumni Association, Fremont Club and St. Josephs Church, where he sang in the choir for more than 30 years. He was involved for many years with Boy Scout Troop 309 and was active with the Boosters of the former St. Louis High School and Biddeford Athletic Association, East Biddeford Little League and the St. Louis and Westbrook skating rinks concessions. He loved reading, fishing and hunting.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years; one son, Ronald J. of Saco; three daughters, Anne C. (Mrs. Paul) Cote and Denise (Mrs. Vincent) Neault, both of Biddeford, and Jackie (Mrs. Richard) Pinette of Old Orchard Beach; two brothers, Raymond of Biddeford and Richard of West Palm Beach, Fla.; one sister, Theresa Padhaisky of Cape Coral, Fla.; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Gilberte Neault

BIDDEFORD - Former resident Gilberte Neault Roy Neault, 70, of Fort Myers, Fla., died Friday after a battle with cancer.

She was born in Biddeford on May 26, 1932, the daughter of Edouard and Simonne Thibault Neault, graduated from St. Andres High School, took real estate courses at the University of Maine and achieved her GRI at the Great Real Estate Institute.

Her first husband, Donald J. Roy, died previously. She married Dr. Roger J. M. Neault on Oct. 6, 2001 at St. Josephs Church.

She founded the Gilberte Real Estate Agency in 1969 and operated the agency with her first husband until a merger with ERA Agency One in 1997. She continued to be associated with Agency One until 1998, when she moved to Florida.

She was involved in many organizations. She volunteered at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers and had been a member of the Southern Maine Medical Center Auxiliary. She was past president of Notre Dame de Lourdes, St. Andres Home, Notre Dame Hospital and the Daughters of Isabella, a charter member of the Altrusa Club and Past Regent of the Daughters of Isabella. She was a member of several choirs, including St. Andres, Notre Dame de Lourdes, St. Josephs and Tri-Community.

She was a parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Parish in Ft. Myers and served as Eucharistic Minister at Notre Dame de Lourdes and St. Josephs Church.

Her grandson, Matthew Cook, died previously.

Survivors include her husband; five daughters, Judith (Mrs. Fred) Fox, Margo Shannon and Anne (Mrs. Brian) Gionest, all of Biddeford, Gisele (Mrs. Andrew) Gentile of Cape Coral, Fla. and Charlotte (Mrs. Albert) Cook of Whitehouse Station, N.J.; three stepsons, Richard of South Portland, Gerard of Augusta and Daniel of Berwick; one stepdaughter, Therese of Bonita Springs, Fla.; three sisters, Priscilla Vereneau of Laurel, Md., Constance (Mrs. Roland) Dubois of Virginia Beach, Va. and Lucette (Mrs. Philip) Pellerin of Saco; an aunt, Gertrude Beaulieu of Saco; 11 grandchildren, nine stepgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Eddie Roux

SANFORD - Eddie Roux, 74, died Monday at home.

He was born in Sanford on June 21, 1928, a son of Conrad and Emelia (Provencher) Roux.

Mr. Roux was retired from the Baker Company in Sanford after many years of employment.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Lafayette Social Club and enjoyed horseshoes, snowmobiling, camping and country and western music.

Four brothers, Willie, Aime, Raymond and Conrad, died previously.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Jeanne (Roy) Roux; two daughters, Dolores (Mrs. Joseph) Glassey of New York and Beatrice (Mrs. Maurice) Bacon of Sanford; two brothers, Hector and Albert, both of Sanford; two sisters, Ida (Mrs. Paul) Guillemette and Simone Thibeault, both of Sanford; one granddaughter, Krystal (Mrs. Curtis) Louder of Sanford; and one great-grandson.

William Miles

WELLS - William Ward Miles, 79, of Horace Mills Road, died Sunday at his home.

He was born April 28, 1924 in Boston, a son of Arthur R. and Gertrude (Strong) Miles, graduated from Medford High School and attended Dartmouth College.

He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from Simplex Wire and Cable Company, where he worked as a supervisor. He lived in Dover, N.H. prior to moving to Wells.

Mr. Miles enjoyed golf and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marguerite (Schnare) Miles of Wells; one daughter, Sandra and her husband Gerald; one brother, Arthur; and two grandchildren, Tory and Holly.

BIDDEFORD - Former Highland Avenue resident Gertrude Janson Sayer, 92, died Sunday at Pine Point Nursing Center in Scarborough. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford.

Irene Brown
Weekend, February 15, 2003
WELLS - Irene L. Brown, 79, a resident of Wells Highlands, died Thursday at her home. She would have celebrated her 61st wedding anniversary on Feb. 15, 2003.

Mrs. Brown was born in Wells Beach on October 7, 1923 a daughter of William Pete and Rose Estelle (Schuren) Sevigney. She attended Wells, Kittery and Portsmouth, N.H. schools.

Mrs. Brown was a member of the First Congregational Church of Wells, the VFW Post of Wells and she also worked for years with the FISH program. She was a member of the Wells- Ogunquit Historical Society, and worked there for five years. She also was a Girl Scout leader for many years.

Irene spent many years as a homemaker for her family. She loved to prepare for a holiday or a birthday with her wonderful homemade meals and always made them special for her family. She loved to dance square-dancing, line-dancing and clogging, and was a member of the Jo Bridges line-dancing group. She will always be fondly remembered by her family.

She was predeceased by her brothers William H. and Gordon K. Sevigney.

She is survived by her husband Carl E. Brown Sr. of Wells; a son Carl E. Brown Jr.; one granddaughter Debra Brown; and one great-grandson, Jeffery.

Joseph Fluet
April 5 - 6, 2003
SANFORD - Joseph Odias Babe Fluet, 85, of Sanford, died April 4 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

He was born in Winslow, Province of Quebec, Canada on April 24, 1917, the son of Edward and Armoza (Breton) Fluet, attended schools in Canada, and came to this area in 1931.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was employed mostly as an auto mechanic, first for Calaxte Nadeau, then for Romeo Mutty at his garage formerly located on Nason Street.

He also worked in construction for Stewart and Williams out of Augusta, at the Maine Medical Center site, and the sewage treatment plant site in Portland.

He also worked for Gendron Lumber.

He was a communicant of St. Ignatius Church.

He was a member of the American Legion, and the VFW, both in Sanford.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, family members said.

Survivors include his wife, Estelle (Thereault) Fluet of Sanford; a daughter, Claire Mangar of Rochester, N.H.; a son, Ronald of Sanford; two sisters, Alexandrine Raymond and Margaret Morin, both living in Canada; three grandchildren, and a great granddaughter.
