Marie Normand
Friday, April 4, 2003
KENNEBUNK - Marie J. Normand, 90, formerly of Sanford and Kennebunk, died Thursday at the Washington House in Alexandria, Va. after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Normand was born in St. Rose du Digelis, Quebec, Canada on March 20, 1913, a daughter of Francis Xavier and Pauline Lavoie Michaud. She attended schools in Quebec and came to the United States as a young girl.

She and her husband, Louis L. Normand, lived in Sanford prior to moving to the Kennebunks. He died in 1987.

Mrs. Normand was employed for several years with the former Kesslen Shoe Company and in later years with Morning Star Corporation, both in Kennebunk.

She was a communicant of St. Marthas in Kennebunk, and moved to Alexandria several years ago to be near her family.

A sister, Rose Potvin, died previously.

Survivors include two sons, Louis L. Jr. of Florham Park, N.J. and Paul E. of Alexandria; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Bella Deschenes

BIDDEFORD - Bella Vir Deschenes, 84, of Emery Street, formerly of Hartford, Conn., died Wednesday at St. Andres Health Care Facility.

She was born on Oct. 31, 1918 in Biddeford, a daughter of George and Marie Fortier Vir, and was educated at St. Andres School.

Mrs. Deschenes was employed by Pepperell Manufacturing in Biddeford, and also worked at York Mills in Saco. Later, she was employed by Pratt and Whitney in Hartford for four years.

She was a communicant of St. Andres Church.

Her husband of 43 years, Paul Deschenes, died Nov. 26, 1988.

Survivors include one son, Donald Pinard of Biddeford; one daughter, Paulette (Mrs. James) Mangino of Woodridge, Ill.; one sister, Noella McMuellen of Sunrise, Fla.; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Raymond Dumont

WATERBORO - Raymond Dumont, 58, of Old Alfred Road, died Wednesday. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Dennett-Craig & Pate Funeral Home, Buxton.

Gerard Desilets

NORTH BERWICK - Gerard Jerry Desilets, 82, of Portland Street, South Berwick, died Wednesday at Varney Crossing Nursing Home.

He was born in St. Helene, Canada on Oct. 14, 1920, a son of Freddy and Aurore Lavigne Desilets.

He joined the Army in 1942 and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

He owned and operated Jerrys Superette in South Berwick for many years and Guays HideAway Take-out at Mousam Lake.

His brother, Paul, and three sisters, Georgette, Estelle and Cecile, died previously.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa Terri Roux Desilets; a son, Gerry of South Berwick; a daughter, Rachel of Plainfield, Vt.; a brother, George of Rochester, N.H.; two sisters, Isabelle Plante of Kennebunk and Theresa Matthews of Florida; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Annette Breton

KENNEBUNK - Annette Breton, 82, of Ross Corner Woods, formerly of Biddeford, died Wednesday at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

She was born in Rollinsford, N.H. on March 15, 1921, the daughter of Charles J. and Leonie Soucy Cloutier, and was educated at St. Charles School in Dover, N.H.

On Nov. 14, 1942, she married Joseph Harvey Breton at St. Michaels Church in South Berwick. He died March 9, 1998.

Mrs. Breton worked for several years at Bruce Shoe in Biddeford. With her husband, she also owned and managed rental property in Biddeford.

She was a member of St. Josephs Church and enjoyed dining out, spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and at her camp at Sebago Lake.

Two brothers died previously: Camille Cloutier on April 30, 1949 and Raymond Cloutier on Jan. 15, 2002.

Survivors include one son, Renald of Wells; two granddaughters, Lisa Clyatt of Needham, Mass. and Cheryl Flowers of Miami, Fla.; and two great-grandsons.

Linden Rand

LEBANON - Linden E. Bud Rand, 67, died Wednesday at Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass.

He was born in Farmington on Oct. 10, 1935, a son of Earl and Phyllis (Clapp) Rand, attended schools in Harrison and Bridgton and was a graduate of Bridgton Academy.

He was an Army veteran, serving just after the Korean Conflict.

A former North Berwick resident, he lived in Lebanon for more than 20 years. He worked for the Rowell and Watson Oil Co. of Dover, N.H. as a mechanic, retiring in 1998.

He had an affinity for engines and an interest in antique internal combustion engines. He was a member of the New Hampshire Power of the Past Collectors and the Maine Antique Power Association. He had many antique engines at home. His favorite, called Big Bertha, had been featured in the 4th of July parade in Sanford for many years. He was a member of the AMVETS post in Sanford and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Katheryn P. (Tripp) Rand; four sons, Scott of North Berwick, Craig of Richfield Park, N.J., Todd of Abbot and Mark of Acton; a daughter, Debra LHeureux of Sanford; a brother, Marshall of Harrison; a sister, Viola Hazelton of Florida; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

India Tavares

SANFORD - India Marie McMahon Tavares, 27, of Charles Street, died unexpectedly Tuesday.

She was born June 27, 1975 in Meriden, Conn., a daughter of Dennis R. and Gloria (Currier) McMahon. She graduated from Noble High School in 1993, then furthered her education at McIntosh College in Dover, N.H.

India was a friendly and outgoing girl. She loved the ocean and fishing with her father and brothers, and she adored her three children.

Survivors include three sons, Joseph K. and Whitney K., both of Sanford and McCary McCatty of North Berwick; her parents of North Berwick; two brothers, Dennis R. Jr. McMahon and Whitney P. McMahon, both of North Berwick; great-grandmother, Opal Chambers of North Berwick, maternal grandmother, Jeanette OClair of Sanford and paternal grandmother, Carolyn McMahon of Wallingford, Conn.

Warren Ham

SHAPLEIGH - Warren Lewis Ham, 76, died unexpectedly Tuesday at Goodall Hospital in Sanford.

He was born Nov. 4, 1926 in Nashua, N.H., the son of Edward E. and Alice M. (DeWare) Ham, and was a graduate of Pepperell (Mass.) High School.

Warren served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the occupation troops in Germany.

He married Ruth Straitiff in 1950, and was employed as a clerical worker for the Veterans Administration in Washington, D.C. He also worked in logistics and supply for the National Security Agency in Ft. Meade, Md. from 1953 to 1966. He lived in Alexandria, Va. from 1950 to 1958 and in Glen Burnie, Md. from 1958 until moving to Shapleigh in 1973. Since relocating here, Warren worked in several jobs including Standard Electric in Portland, and the former Aerofab and Computervision plants in Sanford.

As a homebody, he enjoyed his farm and garden, tended his geese and chickens and cut firewood for his home. He was a grandfather and father to many in Shapleigh.

Mr. Ham was a member of Shapleigh First Baptist Church.

His son, Edward, died in 1980.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years; a son, Kevin S. of Limerick; three daughters, Jean A. Lynch of Glen Burnie, Karen L. of South Portland, and Patricia A. Mayo of Kennebunk; a brother, Everett C. of Sykesville, Md.; a grandson, Ryan Mayo; three nieces and two nephews.

Alice Whicher

NORTH BERWICK - Alice R. Whicher, 95, of Portland Street, died Sunday at Varney Crossing Nursing Center.

She was born Jan. 15, 1908 in North Berwick, a daughter of Lincoln and Mary (Moran) Abbott, and graduated from North Berwick High School and McIntosh Business College in Dover, N.H.

She had been employed in the Naval Department in Washington, D.C., the former air base in Sanford and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery.

Mrs. Whicher was a member of Christian Science Church in Kennebunk and at one time served as Second Reader. She was also a member of the Quint-Cheney Post American Legion.

Her husband, Lindsey Whicher, died in 1964. A brother, W. Burton Abbott, also died previously.

Patricia Traverso
November 1 - 2, 2003
SANFORD - Patricia (Patti) Jean Traverso, 33, of Country Club Road and formerly of Kennebunk, died Wednesday at the Maine Medical Center in Portland after a brief illness.

She was born in Lawrence, Mass., a daughter of Anthony P. and Mary Louise Traverso Jr.. She attended Methuen schools and after moving to Maine, graduated from Kennebunk High School Class of 1988. She graduated from Andover College in Portland.

She was employed by Seacoast Newspapers as an account executive in the New Hampshire and southern Maine area.

She is survived by two sons, Kaleb and Jaryd Traverso-Penn of Sanford; her longtime companion, Marlon Penn of Sanford; her parents of Kennebunk; and three sisters, Susan M. Traverso of Arizona, Paula B. Kennedy of Sanford and Donna L. Roy of Kennebunk.
