Carl P. Foster

LEBANON, N.H. — Carl P. Foster, 79, of Lebanon, died Friday evening, Jan. 26, 2001, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.

He was born July 24, 1921, in Augusta, Maine, son of he late Winfield and Louise (Hisler) Foster, and grew up in Coopers Mills, was a graduate of Coburn Classical Institute in Waterville, Maine, and later of Gates Business School in Augusta. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, retiring at the rank of Major.

He married Harriet Jean Reid in 1947; she died in 1970.

He married Margaret "Peggy" Ryan, Sept. 26, 1973.

He served as Administrator of Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta, before serving as administrator at Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, N.H. He retired from that position in 1975. He served two terms in the New Hampshire House of Representatives and on the Lebanon City Council. He was a past member of the Lebanon Rotary Club, a lifetime member of the Bay View Lodge No. 196, A.F.&A.M. of Boothbay, Maine, and a member of Bektash Temple Shriners of Concord, N.H. He raised Cockatiel birds and gave them away as pets. He also enjoyed gardening, the Boston Red Sox, doing crossword puzzles, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Peggy Foster, of Lebanon; three sons, Gregory Foster, of Lebanon, Steven Foster, of West Lebanon, John Foster, of Searsmont, Maine; four stepchildren, Yvonne Martin, of Lebanon, Marjorie Godfrey, of Lebanon, Burton "Nip" Hadlock, of Sunol, Calif., Pippa Crudele, of Uxbridge, Mass.; sister, Carolyn F. Manwell, of Winthrop, Maine; 20 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

A brother, Winfield Foster Jr., predeceased him.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, at the Ricker Funeral Home, 56 School St., Lebanon.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, at the First Baptist Church in Lebanon with the Rev. Dale Edwards officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, School Street, Lebanon NH 03766; or Shriners Hospital, 516 Carew St., Springfield MA 01104.

Richard S. Heald Sr.

HALLOWELL — Richard S. "Dick" Heald Sr., 61, of Hallowell, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at his home in Hallowell after a long brave struggle with cancer.

He was born May 22, 1939, in Hallowell, son of C. Warren and Sadie M. (Cole) Heald, and graduated from Hallowell High School in 1959. After six years of service in the U.S. Coast Guard, he held several jobs including employment at Bath Iron Works as a welder and a career of more than 28 years as an Outside Plant Technician for the New England Telephone Co. His last few years with NET were as a Special Service Technician; he retired in May of 1997.

Dick was a longtime member of the Cox Memorial United Methodist Church where he served on various committees and as a conference delegate. He also belonged to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, American Legion, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and served as a staff member and bus driver for The Sharpies Cossack Drill Team.

Dick was unselfishly generous with his time in assisting friends, family, and even perfect strangers with the many skillful talents he had acquired, always doing so with cheerful good humor.

Richard very much enjoyed hosting family get-togethers with his wife, traveling, and his far-ranging mind was always interested in the study of history, mechanics and science.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 36 years, Virginia Raye "Ginny" Heald, in 1999, and his sister, Peggy Lampher, in 1977.

Survivors include his mother-in-law, Hester Ellis, of Hallowell; his sister, Marilyn Lagasse, of Winslow; two brothers, David, of Fairfield, and Glen, of Farmingdale; three children, Richard and his wife, Tammy, of Augusta, Grace and her husband, Peter Lemar, of South China, and Darren and his wife, Carolyn "Callie," of Hallowell; four granddaughters, Adrien and Alicia, of China, and Alexis and Annika, of Hallowell; many nephews, nieces and cousins. He also leaves behind many friends whose lives he deeply touched.

Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 68 Second St., Hallowell.

A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the Cox Memorial UMC, Middle and Central streets, Hallowell; a fellowship will follow and those who desire may bring food.

In lieu of flowers, those who desire may make donations to the C. Warren Heald Music Scholarship Fund, c/o David Heald, 521 Middle Road, Fairfield ME 04937.

Edwin P.J. Zografos

READFIELD — Edwin Peter James Zografos, 58, of Huntoon Lane, died unexpectedly Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, in Spartanburg, S.C.

He was born in Portland, son of James G. and Ella (Farley) Zografos, where he attended local schools and graduated from Portland High School. He served stateside in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He was a former member of the Cape Elizabeth Fire Department, master electrician and operated an appliance repair company as a younger man. He also enjoyed woodworking.

He was the building maintenance supervisor for the Maine Turnpike Authority, retiring in 1999 after 25 years.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy (Poulin) Zografos, of Readfield; daughters, Mrs. Eric M. (Ann) Zografos Russ, of Cherry Hill, N.J.; son, David M. Zografos and his wife, Monica G., of Portland; two sisters, Llewella Barnes and Marietta Jaques, both of Westbrook; brother, George J. Zografos, of Westbrook; two stepdaughters, Mrs. John (Melissa) Dicranian, of Moore, S.C., and Katherine Cushing, of Readfield; stepson, Larry Cushing and his wife, Corinna, of Windham; five grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at the Conroy-Tully South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the First Congregational Church UCC, 301 Cottage Road, South Portland. Burial will follow at the Forest City Cemetery in South Portland.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maine Cancer Research and Education Foundation, PO Box 553, Portland ME 04112.

Euclide J. Poulin

AUGUSTA — Euclide J. "Butch" Poulin, 76, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta.

He was born in Augusta, July 10, 1924, the son of Leonce and Marie (Mercier) Poulin.

Mr. Poulin was a combat veteran of World War II, attaining the rank of technical sergeant 5. After the war, Butch worked at the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Togus for 30 years.

He had been married to June (McMahon) Poulin for 53 years.

He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.

To have known Butch Poulin was like knowing a saint. He was giving, loving, caring, warm and always putting others first. We have all been truly blessed to have had him in our lives. Thank you, Lord!

Euclide was predeceased by a son, David Poulin, of Arizona, and a daughter, Denise Spinney, of Farmington; two brothers, Raphael Poulin, of Augusta, and Emilio Poulin, of Connecticut; a sister, Cecile Pushard, of Chelsea; and an infant sister, Beatrice Poulin, of Augusta.

He is survived by his wife, June Poulin, of Augusta; a son, Dana Poulin, and his wife, Jacqueline, of South Carolina; a daughter, Danielle Choate, and her husband, Dale, of Farmingdale; a brother, Rev. Lucien Poulin, of Augusta; three sisters, Lucienne Treland, of Augusta, Annette Malone, of Augusta, and Therese Morin, of Winthrop; eight grandchildren, James Poulin, and his wife, Angela, of Palermo, Josette True, and her husband, Deon, of Augusta, Joshua Poulin, of Augusta, Christine, Melissa and Hannah Choate, of Farmingdale, and Crystal and Gordon Spinney, of Farmington; four great-grandchildren, Jessie and Aaron Poulin, of Palermo, and Katelyn and Kurstyn True, of Augusta; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may visit 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Western Avenue, Augusta. Burial will follow at noon, in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Old Belgrade Road, Augusta.

Josephine L. Morin

TOPSHAM — Josephine Louise Morin, 85, of River Road, died Monday, April 9, 2001, at her home.

She was born in Haverhill, Mass., April 8, 1916, the daughter of Herbert and Elizabeth Knowlton Douglas.

As a young girl, her family moved to Brunswick, where she attended school and graduated from Brunswick High School in 1934.

In 1934, she married John L. Davis Sr. He died in 1962. In 1968, she married Michael Morin. He died in 1993.

Mrs. Morin was a homemaker and for 15 years worked as a waitress in several Brunswick area establishments.

She enjoyed yard sales and her cat, "Scamp." Mrs. Morin was a member of the former Regional Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and had volunteered at the hospital's Second Hand Rose shop for several years. She was a member of the 1934 Class Reunion Group.

Surviving are three sons, John Davis Jr., and his wife, Jean, of Topsham, Lloyd Davis, and his wife, Nancy, of North Yarmouth, and Richard Davis, and his wife, Lavinia, of Cumming, Ga.; a daughter, Diane Cramer, and her husband, Mike, of Bowdoin; two stepsons, Richard Morin, and his wife, Glenna, of Bowdoinham, and William Morin, and his wife, Pauline, of Topsham; and a stepdaughter, Anne Ackley, and her husband, Robert, of Topsham.

She also is survived by nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.

Visiting hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at Stetson's Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 12, with Rev. Ronald McLaughlin officiating. Interment will be later in the spring, in Varney Cemetery, Brunswick.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 122 State St., Augusta 04330.

Leroy W. Prior

MONMOUTH — Leroy W. Prior, 72, of Monmouth, died Sunday evening, April 8, 2001, at his residence.

He was born July 27, 1928, the son of Leroy and Freda (Louise) Harris Prior.

He was educated in Stanford, Conn., schools. His family moved to the Monmouth area in the late 1940s.

Mr. Prior worked for several years at the local Woolworth Estate, where he cared for the horses. He was employed by DeCoster Egg Farms and later by Acton Food Services.

An avid outdoorsman, Leroy enjoyed hunting and mountain climbing. He cared for the birds around his home, which was evident by the numerous feeders he tended. His pride and joy was his car, which provided his freedom to visit his friends at the Lunch Pad, in Livermore Falls, where he enjoyed his home-cooked meals and frequently brought flowers for the workers. After his meal, he would wash his own dishes and continue until he also had washed all the other patrons' dishes.

Mr. Prior will be missed by special friends who cared for him locally, Janet Pastore, Linda Jewell, Millie Parkins, and Robert and Hilda Hahn and their family.

He was predeceased by a brother, Richard E. Prior, in 1993.

He is survived by his cousins, Nancy Prior, of Oxford, Conn., Philip Prior Jr., of Norwalk, Conn., Robert Prior, of Orange, Conn., Sylvia Brookover, of Reston, Va., and Patrick Morelli Jr., of Norwalk.

A graveside funeral service will be held later in the spring, in Monmouth Ridge Cemetery, Monmouth.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bragdon-Finley Funeral Home, 707 Main St., Monmouth.

Richard Laurence "Sach" Wing

LITCHFIELD — Richard Laurence "Sach" Wing, 50, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Mid Coast Hospital, Brunswick, following a courageous battle with cancer. Family and friends surrounded him in his last hours.

He was born in Lewiston, Jan. 8, 1951, the son of Robert S. and Alice (Ricker) Wing.

Mr. Wing enjoyed rock hunting, antiquing and fishing, but we will remember him for his laughter, sense of humor and the kindness he had for others. He will be sadly missed by his family and the endless number of friends who gave him love and support throughout his illness. Sach will always be in our hearts.

He was predeceased by his father, Robert.

He is survived by his son, Gabriel Sach, and his partner, Beth Pelletier, of Litchfield; his daughter, Carissa Marie, and her husband, Troy Dubois, of Litchfield; mother, Alice R., of Monmouth; two sisters, Martha McAllister and Sharon Bryant, of Winthrop; three brothers, Paul S., of Litchfield, and Gregory R. and Kevin B., of Monmouth; and former wife and best friend, Susan Albert Hilchey, and her daughter, Mariah, of Lisbon.

At his request, there will be no visiting hours or funeral. A private remembrance gathering for the family to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made for cancer research.
