Ilean Rose (Dukett) Dziob

DETROIT - Ilean (Dukett) Dziob, 74, of Detroit, formerly of Bristol, CT died peacefully on October 21, 2001. She was the wife of the late Edward A. Dziob. She was born in Dickson Center, NY on April 19, 1927, daughter of the late Inez Udora (Bray) and Eber Washburn Dukett and grew up in Plainville, CT. She attended Plainville High School. From 1951, when she moved to Bristol, CT and with her husband established the Forestville Auto Body, until their retirement in 1979, she worked tirelessly by his side not only as a bookkeeper for various aspects of the business, but as best friend and confidante. In addition to raising seven children, she was a 4-H volunteer and assisted the neighborhood girls in their sewing projects. Her natural talent for sewing was evident in the gowns and dresses she fashioned for her daughters and a few close friends. In addition to her husband, he is survived by six daughters and sons-in-law, Laurie and Fernand Kirouac, Cynthia and Bradley Cline, and Beverly and Ronald Herr of Detroit; Rita and Paul Bayer of Bristol, CT; Susan and Rick Ouellette of Port Richie, FL; Karen and Kevin Kaminski and one son and daughter-in-law Michael and Suzanne Dziob of New Hartford, CT; nineteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She leaves her brother and sisters and their husbands, Rita and Garland Helming to Grand Island, FL; Eleanor and Everett Hill of Berlin, CT; and Vemon Dukett of Waterbury, CT as well as many godchildren, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by an infant daughter, Regina, infant grandson, Cody, brothers, Howard, Donald, and Francis Dukett. Family and friends visited on October 24 from 1:00 p.m. at the Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield, where a funeral service were held at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. C. James Martel Officiating. Burial followed at the Village cemetery, Peltoma Ave., Pittsfield.

Brenda A. Dunton

ST. ALBANS - Brenda Arlene (Baker) Dunton, 57, of St. Albans, died October 11, 2001, at the Sebasticook Valley Hospital after a long battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Brenda was born in Hartland, August 19, 1944, the daughter of Joseph A. and Arlene (Hollister) Spencer. She attended Hartland Academy and worked for Dexter Shoe Co. On August 4, 1961, Brenda married Kenneth Dunton and recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Brenda loved sewing, knitting, playing cards, dancing, working in her flower garden, and most of all her family and friends. Brenda is survived by her husband of 40 years, Kenneth Dunton of St. Albans; one son, Robert Dunton and his wife, Beth of Vero Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Cathy Bemis and her husband, Bryan of St. Albans, Holly Roderick and her husband, Mike of Corinna; one sister, Marion Pingree and her husband, Jesse of Ripley; one sister-in-law, Wyonna Rusgaitis and her husband, Fritz of Nevada; five grandchildren, Danielle, Bryanna, Bret, Justin, Jaret, and several nephews.

Auril E. Tasker, Sr.

STETSON - Auril E. Tasker, Sr., 61, died unexpectedly October 8, 2001 at his Route 222 residence. He was born January 23, 1940 at Dexter the son of Luther and Marjorie (Stevens) Tasker. He was self employed as a carpenter all of his life and had also worked at Eastland Woolen Mill in Corinna until it closed. He especially enjoyed restoring classic cars with his sons and grandsons. He is survived by his mother, Marjorie Judkins of Bangor; his companion of 27 years, Hazel Williams of Stetson; 5 sons, Auril, Jr. of Bradford, Mark and Morris, both of Dexter, John of Stetson, and Charles of Newport; 4 daughters, Melanie Bragg, Brandy Barnett and Michelle Simonds, all of Dexter, and Robin Williams of Hudson; 2 brothers, Douglas and Larry ; 5 sisters, Charlene, Amy, Judy, Marjorie and Jane; 23 grandchildren. Friends called 6-8 P.M. Friday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, Exeter Road, Corinna, where funeral services were held 1 P.M. Saturday with the Rev. David Ray officiating. Burial will be in the family lot, North Newport cemetery.

Kenneth E. Niles

PALMYRA - Kenneth E. Niles, 81, of Palmyra, died Wednesday, September 19, 2001, at Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield. He was born April 30, 1920, in Presque Isle, son of Sylvester and Pearl (Crorey) Niles. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II. He married Launa Bell, April 19, 1947, in Presque Isle. He was the owner/operator of Ken's Garage for over 40 years. He was a member of the Meridian Splendor Lodge, AF&AM, of Pittsfield. Survivors include his wife of Palmyra; three daughters, Nancy and her husband, Camille Derosier, of Palmyra, Connie Munster of Newport, and Debbie Niles of Detroit; four grandchildren, Brett and Brant Munster of Newport, Justin and Sarah Derosier of Palmyra; sister-in-law, Mattie Niles of Presque Isle; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Jacquie Sawtelle of Corinna and Ralph Morton of Pittsfield. Friends call Friday at D.H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 22, at the D.H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, Hartland Avenue, Pittsfield. Burial was held at 10 a.m. Monday, September 24, at the Mount Vernon Road, Maine Veterans Memorial cemetery, Augusta.

Kenneth O. Stafford

RIPLEY - Kenneth O. Stafford, 94, died September 24, 2001 at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital following a brief illness. He was born May 24, 1907 in Hartland the son of Alvah and Lucelia (Osborne) Stafford. Ken worked in the woods for many years. He also owned and operated K.O.'s Tydal Gas Station in Ripley for 15 years and worked at Fay-Scott Machine Shop in Dexter for 20 years, retiring in 1971. Ken enjoyed baseball games, coin collecting and trout fishing. He was a member of the Ripley United Methodist Church and the Penobscot Lodge # 39 AF & AM. Ken was predeceased by a son Cecil in 1943, his wife Mary, who died in 1988, 2 brothers, Cecil and Merton, and a sister Annie. He is survived by a son Kenneth M. Stafford and his wife Judith of Dexter; a grandson, Ken of Hudson; 3 grand-daughters, Beth Myric of Standish, Patricia Laferrier of Portland and Amy Stafford of Seattle, Washington; 4 great grandchildren; as well as a dear friend Marguerite Sherburne of Dexter. Friends called at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main Street, Dexter from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. Wednesday where a Masonic service was held at 7:30 P.M. Funeral services were held at 11 A.M. Thursday, September 27th, at the Ripley United Methodist Church with Pastor Lois Merrifield officiating. Burial will be in Ferndale cemetery, Ripley. Donations may be made in his memory to the Ripley United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Dorothy Hutchins, 258 Lane Road, Ripley 04930.

Mark S. Brooks

CORINNA - Mark S. Brooks, 88, died September 20, 2001 at his residence. He was born July 27, 1913 at the family farm in North Newport, the son of Henry and Hellena (Downes) Brooks. He attended school in Newport, Detroit, and Holbrook, Mass. He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps, local mills, and retired from the Maine Department of Transportation after 21 years. He was married to Ruth Adams Brasier in 1935, and Frances White Brooks in 1948. He was predeceased by his wives, a daughter, Loretta Brooks Taylor, and a brother, Martin Brooks. Mark served in the Army National Guard. He was a member of the Morses Corner Baptist Church in Corinna, the Charleston Pentecostal Church, and the Newport Full Gospel Church. He was a lifetime member and past master of Eastville Grange #426 of East Newport, a past deputy of the Maine State Grange, and was nine times master of the Pomona and member of the National Grange. Mark was a 32 Degree Mason and member of the Meridian Splendor Masonic Lodge in Newport for 50 years, and a member of the Odd Fellows for 51 years. He also belonged to the Cleora Rebekah Lodge of Corinna. He is survived by a daughter, Eleanor Henderson of Corinna; and two foster daughters, Ruby Mooers of Broad Brook, CT, and Elsie Seavey of Newport; one sister, Evelyn Brooks Rowe Baldwin of Gray; a step-sister, Dorothy Nickerson of Newport; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends, including a special friend, Grace Braley Lander of Newport, and a special nephew Martin Brooks, Jr. of Indiana. Funeral services were held 2 PM Monday at Newport Full Gospel Church, where friends called from noon until the time of services. Burial will be in North Newport cemetery. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, Corinna.

James M. Roux

PORTLAND - James M. Roux, 42, of Portland, Maine died Tuesday, September 11, 2001. He was a passenger on the hijacked United Airlines Flight 175 that crashed in New York City. Jim was the son of the late Donald A. Roux of Cumberland Foreside. He was a 1977 graduate of Lewiston High School, a 1981 graduate of Bowdoin College and a 1984 graduate of University of Maine Law School. Roux served three years in the United States Army as a captain in the JAG Corp for the 82nd Airborne Division and was a decorated paratrooper. He also served in the Army National Reserves. Jim practiced law in Hartford, Connecticut and Portland, Maine. He was a litigator who recently helped with large settlements for several families affected by asbestos exposure and lead poisoning. A devoted father to his two sons, Jim was an avid fly fisherman, mountain climber and outdoorsman. On his numerous trips to Nepal, he hiked the Himalayas, ascended to the base camp of Mt. Everest, and climbed Island Peak. He loved to hike and rock climb in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Jim was also an accomplished guitarist with a passion for music. Mr. Roux is survived by two sons, James Michael Roux, Jr. and Patrick Kelly Roux. Also surviving is his mother, Constance Roux Scalera and stepfather Frank J. Scalera, Jr. of Cumberland Foreside, Maine, a brother, David Roux of Woodside, California and four sisters, Donna Hart of Brisbane, California, Catherine Moin of Washington, D.C., Sally Tarte of Kennebunk, Maine, and Mary Train of Portland, Maine. He leaves behind a stepbrother William Scalera and two stepsisters, Deborah Martin and Barbara Pepper, all three from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was the nephew of the late Gov. James B. Longley. A private memorial service is planned at Bowdoin College Chapel at 10 a.m. Saturday, September15. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to Educate the Children, Inc., a nonprofit group that provides funds for educating the children of Nepal. Geneva Batchelder

GARLAND - Geneva Batchelder, 73, the wife of David N. Batchelder, died September 11, 2001 at a Bangor Hospital after a short illness. She was born August 12, 1928 in Eagle Lake, the daughter of Arthur and Elise (Dumond) Voisine. Surviving in addition to her husband of Garland are two brothers, Lawrence Voisine of Florida and Herman Voisine of E. Hartford, Conn; a sister, Nina Parent of Florida; two brothers in law, Keith Batchelder and his wife, Arlene and Edmund Daigle; two sisters in law, Thurlyn Leavitt and her husband, Earl and Dorothy Turner and her husband, Hubert; three brothers in law, Gary Batchelder, Maurice Batchelder and his wife, Peggy and Tommy Batchelder and his wife, Joyce; many nieces, nephews and friends. Geneva was predeceased by a brother, Maxime (Tom) Voisine and five sisters, Valeda Saucier, Freda Daigle, Exilia Chasse, Emelda Yeager and Voila Gilbert. A graveside memorial service was held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Evergreen cemetery in Garland with Rev. Fr. Raymond Morency officiating. Arrangements are by Thompson Funeral Home, 30 St. Albans Road, Corinna.

Heidi R. Nelson

CORINNA - Heidi Renee Nelson, 26, died September 11, 2001 as the result of an automobile accident on I-95. She was born December 29, 1974 at Bangor the daughter of Dennis D. and Julie E. (Stevens) Nelson. She graduated from Nokomis Regional High, Class of 1993, where she actively participated in the various bands, basketball, softball and the Key Club. She attended the University of Maine at Farmington and, later, Eastern Maine Technical College. She was employed as a wholesaler at the Goodwrench Pro Shop in Bangor. Surviving, in addition to her parents, and her dog Abby, are a maternal grandmother, Zelma Stevens of Monson; paternal grandfather, Spurgeon Nelson of Dexter; aunts and uncles, Charles and Gail Stevens of Newport, Robert and Susan Stevens of Pittstown, NJ, Kent Stevens of Monson, Rodney and Roberta Scott of Garland, Rebecca Pitcher of Corinna; many cousins and special girl friends; great aunts and uncles; and a special friend, Jeff Norris and his son Ian of Stetson. Friends called from 7- 9 P.M. Thursday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport. Funeral services were held 2 P.M. Friday, September 14th at the Corinna United Methodist Church with the Rev. Terrence McKinley officiating. Burial will be in Morses Corner cemetery, Corinna. Geneva Batchelder

GARLAND - Geneva Batchelder, 73, the wife of David N. Batchelder, died September 11, 2001 at a Bangor Hospital after a short illness. Newton C. Hathorn

DEXTER & SANGERVILLE - Newton Clarence Hathorn, 90, died September 1, 2001 at a Dover-Foxcroft hospital. He was born February 22, 1911 at Dover the son of Edgar and Hattie (Fogg) Hathorn. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was employed for 21 years at Fayscott in Dexter, retiring in 1973.
He is survived by a son George Stephen Hathorn of Bucksport; 2 daughters, Joyce Ellis and husband Alan of Sangerville, and Faye Clements of Dexter; his only grandson, Stephen John Hathorn; 5 stepchildren, Robert and wife Charlotte Bingham of Winterport, Milton and wife Dolores Bingham of Dexter, and Edward Bingham of Burnham, Eva Ruth LeDuc of Bangor, Goldie Panzini and friend Dale Perigo of Parkman; 39 grandchildren; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Myrtle (Hill) Hathorn, brothers, John, Linwood, and Malcolm, and a sister Rowena. Graveside committal services were held 1 P.M. Saturday, September 8th, at West Garland cemetery with the Rev. David Kelly officiating. In lieu of flowers, Donations may be made to the Dexter Health Care Patient Activity Fund, 64 Park Street, Dexter, ME 04930.

Philip K. Salaoutis

BURNHAM - Philip K Salaoutis, 60, of Burnham died Saturday, September 1 at the home of a close friend on Vinalhaven. Philip was born June 1, 1941 on the Greek Island of Karia. He moved to New York with his immediate family shortly after finishing high school. There he met and married Rosemarie Ethel Toth of Ft. Lee, New Jersey. The couple settled in Burnham in 1969 where Philip and Rosemarie farmed and raised their family. Philip is survived by his three sons, Gregory, Andrew and Kevin of Burnham. As well as his mother Sophia Salaouts and three siblings, Aristoteles, Smarro and Connie Canellos all of New York. He is predeceased by his father Konstantinus of New York and his wife Rosemarie of Burnham. A pot luck memorial will be held on Saturday, September 15th at 2 p.m. at the Burnham Town Hall.

Harold H. Jones

CORINNA - Harold H. Jones, 89, the busband of Doris (Muce) Jones, died August 31, 2001 at a Dexter Nursing Home after a short illness. He was born July 3, 1912 in Trescott, the son of George and Sarah (Brewster) Jones. He attended Corinna schools and was a member of the Corinna Christian Church, serving as a Deacon for 26 years. Harold worked as a lifelong dairy farmer. Surviving in addition to his wife of Corinna are two daughters, Arva Archer and her husband, Waldo of Eddington and Mary Louise (Sue) Michaud of St. Albans; two step daughters. Gloria Moody and her husband Orrison of Corinna and Joan Lance of Wells Point, Texas; a sister, Merriam Page of Portland; 13 grandchildren; 22 grandchildren. Harold was predecease by his first wife, Erma Jones in 1985. Graveside funeral services were held 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Clarks Hill cemetery, Stetson with Rev. Edward Jaworski officiating. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to the Pleasant St. Christian Church, 29 St. Albans Rd., Corinna, ME 04928. Arrangements are by the Thompson Funeral home, 30 St. Albans Rd., Corinna.

Cora (Darling) Pelkey

OLD TOWN & VEAZIE - Cora (Darling) Pelkey, 89, died December 14, 2001 at a Bangor Hospital. She was born May 23, 1912 in Patten, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Beatrice (Sibley) Darling. She moved to Old Town in 1923 and graduated from Old Town High School, Class of 1930. She was employed for many years by Penobscot Shoe and Old Town Shoe shops. In 1956, she was employed by the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad in Bangor, retiring in 1984. She was a member of the Order of The Eastern Star. She was predeceased by her only daughter, Patricia (Pelkey) Eaton, in 1998. She is survived by her son-in-law, Kenneth C. Eaton of Corinna and Florida; 2 grandchildren, DeAnna Eaton of Dexter, and Susan Eaton of San Diego, CA; along with 3 special nieces who made her life easier, and many other nieces and nephews. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 18th, at Morses Corner cemetery, Corinna, with Pastor Stan Griffin of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Exeter, officiating. Following the service, a gathering and time of refreshments will be held at Carl and Loraine Palmer's residence, 1116 Stetson Road, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cora's memory to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, 68 Exeter Road, Corinna, Telephone 278-2262.

Helen J. Byron

Houlton - Helen Byron, 77, died November 21, 2001 at a Waterville hospital surrounded by her family. She was born April 19, 1924 in Jacksontown, N.B. Canada the daughter of Emma J. (Gartley) and Guy M. Long. Helen and her family moved to Houlton in 1929. She graduated from Houlton High School in 1942. She married Ora Byron in 1945 and they resided in Linneus until 1963 and moved to Palmyra. She worked side by side with her husband raising a beautiful herd of Jerseys. After retiring they moved to Troy and made their home there raising strawberries, a truck garden and making maple syrup. Helen was predeceased by her husband, of 55 years, Ora Byron, in 2000; also a sister Meda Friers, and brothers Malcolm Long, Charles Long, Harold Long, Berry Long, and Harvey Long. She is survived by three children, Jean Johnson and son-in-law Clifford of Troy, Kenneth Byron of St. Albans, and Thomas Byron and daughter-in-law Dawn of Troy; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren and a very special niece Glenn (Friers) Wallace and her busband Mac of St. John, N.B. Canada; two sisters Elva Scott of Houlton, Elizabeth Howard of Hawaii and a brother Eugene Long of California; also three sisters-in-law, Edith Long of Houlton, Thelma Long of Southington, Connecticut, and Irene Long of Bangor. Also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Rogers cemetery in Troy with Pastor Ronnie Libby officiating. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Byron, Kenneth Bryon, Jr., Darrell Long, Weldon Long, Clifford Johnson, and Billy Gray with honorary pallbearer Mac Wallace. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be sent of the Helen Byron Scholarship Fund P.O. Box 670, Unity, ME 04988 to be used for a future nursing student. Arrangements under the direction of The Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main Street, Fairfield.

Robert D. Bridge

PARKMAN - Robert D. Bridge, 76, died November 22, 2001 at a Bangor Hospital after a very short illness. He was born October 16, 1925 in Parkman, the son of Stanley A. and Faye (Perkins) Bridge. Educated in Parkman schools, he graduated from Guilford High School with the class of 1948 after serving in World War II. Mr. Bridge had been a farmer all his life in Parkman.
He was a member of the Guilford Center Baptist Church. He was also a member of Parkman Grange #305, Valley Grange #144, Piscataquis Pomona Grange and Maine State Grange. Bob was a long time member of the Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District, serving as a director for many years. He was a former member of the S.A.D. #4 School Board, a member of the Parkman Planning Board, a member of the Maine Farm Bureau and other agricultural groups. He is survived by his wife of six years, Joyce (McAlister Miller) Bridge, one daughter and her husband, Brenda and Steve Hartford all of Parkman; two brothers, Galen Bridge of Tucson, Arizona and Nelson Bridge of Abbot; two grandchildren, Jason Robert Hartford of Parkman and Kylee Anne Hartford of Parsonsfield; two aunts, several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife of 45 years, Amber (Curtis) Bridge; his sisters, Audrey Gourley and Mary Cross also a brother Herbert Bridge. Friends called 6-9 p.m. Sunday, November 25th at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak St., Guilford. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 26th at the funeral home with Pastor David Lassell officiating. Burial will be in the Pingree Center cemetery in Parkman. Lawrence A. Palmer

DIXMONT & DEDHAM, MASS. - Lawrence Allen Palmer, 63, died unexpectedly November 16, 2001 while on a hunting trip at the family hunting camp in Plymouth. He was born October 19, 1938 at Plymouth the son of George and Sybelle (Patten) Palmer. At the time of his death he owned and operated the Moss Hill Mobil Service Station in Roslindale, Mass. He is survived by his wife, Gail (Urie) Palmer, and his mother, Sybelle E. Palmer, both of Dedham, Mass.; his children, Jason Palmer of Dedham, Mass., Kimberly Palmer and Ingrid Williams, both of Norton, Mass.; 3 grandchildren, Chandra Palmer, Colby Williams, and Tyler Williams; as well as an aunt, Olive Palmer of Newport. Friends called from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Sunday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport, where funeral services were held 1 P.M. Monday, November 19th, with the Rev. Michael Stephenson officiating. Burial will be in the family lot, Simpson Corner cemetery, Dixmont.
